Had to start a new thread, as our old one got too big to post anymore.
yay figgy - your scan sounds great! A wee boy - now you only have to think about boy names. Woohoo.

Just read back over the thread since I was away. My friend got me a Sophie la giraffe - all the French babies have them apparently :) They are brilliant for teething as far as I can tell.

I am getting a big box of clothes, breast pump, bottles etc. from a friend but need to go and pick it up at some stage. Otherwise I have got other free said as I have said before but have bought exactly nothing. Oh no, I bought a tiny sleepy suit when I found out I was pregnant to give my husband to tell him but otherwise nothing except for the Mumsnet Babies Guide which was good but kind of freaked me out as I don't know what I am doing. AT ALL! AGH!

I think this thread is slowed down because the other one is so popular i do post there too but always come back to this one too.

Was at home at the weekend went shopping with my mum on sunday came home with about £100 of clothes decided to mainly buy 0-3 size as i dont think i will have a small baby and newborn stuff seems small next is up to 8lbs!! The cot bed UnderDrawer is now full of body suits, sleep suits, outfits and i mean FULL no more space for anything so on a self imposed clothes ban. Have the loveliest Bear suit, duffle coat and flat cap from next!! I think she has bought out all the baby boys clothes in matalan, next and asda.

I got my fisher price play gym off ebay the other day picked it up on way home from work got it for £25 instead of £58 which was happy with. Also seen a swing 5 mins from work for £10 its not the one i wanted but totally refuse to pay the sort of money some of these things retail at.

OiMissus · 06/09/2011 17:39

Just checking in - as I hadn't seen this thread! - I'll have to keep with y'all here too. :)

mopsytop · 06/09/2011 17:40

I post on both too, even though I set up this thread! Have a sore throat today which has been getting worse ... hope it goes away. I would love a day where I feel fab! Hasn't happened since I got pregnant really. Will be worth it in the end of course, but it's a slog isn't it? Jealous of the glowing, loving-their-pregnancy, never-felt-better types!

notlettingthefearshow · 06/09/2011 17:48

I'm due on Xmas Day!

Started feeling movements about 2 weeks ago when I was 22 weeks. Before then I felt nothing though. Now I feel baby moving regularly. I love it! Definitely my favourite thing too.

figgygal · 06/09/2011 18:34

I broke my maternity work trousers today tugged them down a little too vigorously and the button securing the elastic straps on the waste went flying didn't realise until too late so have lost the button and my trousers now hanging off me must rake the drawers for a spare button then get the mother in law to sew it on for me Grin.

NorthernChinchilla · 06/09/2011 21:33

Hey Carly, I'm in North Kent- Medway, so near you too AWCH, small world! I feel the same about the silly names too...

Glad the conference went well mopsy and you did the right thing in skiving off to have a look round- I nicked out of the last one I went to to go round the 'Staffordshire Hoard' exhibition, geeky but I loved it. Sorry you're feeling so grim, and I apologise for generally being a semi- 'glowing' type!

Mind you, being pregnant has been both a reminder of being a teenager (first trimester-spots, huge appetite, grumpy and napping during the day) AND an early exercise in what it's like to be 80- whinging about sciatica, early nights, having to think about where the next loo stop is! Why does no-one tell you about this?!?

On the maternity trousers side, can I really recommend River Island? They don't do maternity stuff, but there are some trousers in there in black, and purple, that are wide leg, lycra-y material, which have this big fold up bit that's totally random but covers the entire bump- and they are so comfy!! They also mean that button emergencies of the figgy type are avoided Grin

Awomancalledhorse · 06/09/2011 23:09

figgy, I've only bought a few newborn vests (from Primark) as I just KNOW if we spend any money on newborn sizes it'll be a massive 10lb baby (please God no!).
DH & I play 'find the most expensive piece of baby tat' whenever we look through a catalouge, Mothercare currently have a baby rocker (which vibrates in Eight directions) for £299. I really want to know what sort of person would buy that.

Northern, hey neighbour! I know what you mean about the feeling old, I have to plan my days out based around toilet stops & places I can have a sit down. Don't even get me started on aches & pains....and waking in the night to go toilet!
Does River Island in Bluewater have a decent maternity section? Didn't realise they did maternity wear!

Figgy, if it makes you feel any better I managed to rip one of my maternity dresses, putting it on me...it wouldn't fit over my boobs & I pulled a bit too tightly. Blush

mopsytop · 07/09/2011 08:52

Haha totally know what you mean re: toilet stops! Is such a pain! I have had to ask random cafés can I use their loo several times as been so desperate, usually the big bump is enough for them to agree :)

Awomancalledhorse · 07/09/2011 09:56

Gah! I must've grown overnight...none of my 'big' trousers will do up. Will have to buy some bigger ones this evening.

A question for everyone; Is there already anything you would do differently (if there was a next time)?
We annouced (to PIL) at 5weeks, I think next time we'll wait longer, waiting until the 'safety' of 12weeks took forever.

OiMissus · 07/09/2011 10:11

Good question, AWCH. I think I would have NOT chosen to know the sex. Whilst it's nice knowing, and being able to buy stuff, and think more about names, it's really difficult to hide the sex in conversations with work colleagues etc. And I'd like to keep that element of surprise.
I wouldn't have bought the big C shaped pillow I bought, and instead would have gone for more of an L shaped pillow. (?)
Can't think of anything else.
Oh, would have not got absolutely rat-ar$ed the week before we found out we were pregnant!

Awomancalledhorse · 07/09/2011 10:32

OiMissus, I'd started drinking again (after 2 years teetotal) the week I got pregnant (we worked it out, by dating! Not I drank because I found out I was pregnant!)...how bloody typical is that?!
Why are the C shaped pillows so bad? I'm looking at getting a V shaped one, but open to suggestions!

OiMissus · 07/09/2011 10:53

The one I have is pretty firm and full. So it's good for the bump to rest against, and great for the pelvic support, but it hurts my ear. You wake up in the middle of the night with a really sore ear! If I try and tuck the top of the C under my arm I wake up with a sore back - coz it bends your spine. Last night I had the C under my arm, but lying my body on a normal pillow - to fill in the C, so it wasn't such a bend to the spine... (So now I have two pillows under my head, the C, and another pillow! I saw the Dream-genii last week and thought "that would be perfect".
However, I think the C pillow will be good to use when breast feeding. (And there probably just isn't an easy way of sleeping - no matter what pillow!)

figgygal · 07/09/2011 12:51

Anyone else still in denial about the whole thing i am still being remiss about exercise and pelvic floor exercises, eating too much sweet stuff, not thinking about birth or anything practical although i do like buying cute clothes!!

OiMissus · 07/09/2011 13:12

Must admit to a distinct lack of pelvic floor exercising (apart from the couple of minutes we do at the aquanatal class), and eating way too much toffees.
BUT not in denial, half calm/half panicking a bit. I'm in the middle of getting organised. This last week has changed everything - because I had started to panic. Now I have ordered a pram, bought a moses basket, borrowed a crib, contacted someone for real nappy advice/recommendations (www.thenappylady.co.uk), bought a few clothes bits for the baby, ordered and received hypnobirthing DVDs and birthing ball/gymball (may help stimulate pelvic floor exercising), have been given a Johnsons hamper thing and some muslin cloths...I think that's it. My bestmate is buying a bouncer for us. :) Tonight I'm moving the bedroom around to set the crib up. Then I'll be happier. :)

mopsytop · 07/09/2011 13:38

Me too on the pelvic floors Blush I need to get my act into gear. Re: denial, it comes and goes. I get moments of sheer panic. And then it goes. Sometimes I spot my bump and get a shock as I have forgotten for a moment that there is a baby in there !!! I have so far bought nothing though. I mean, literally, nothing. So I guess that's a bit of denial. But then, being given loads of stuff so it's not so bad. I am getting a birthing ball in the post soon and a book on new babies so maybe that will be the start of a) pelvic floors and b) a reality check.

Awomancalledhorse · 07/09/2011 15:13

I've been doing pelvic floor exercises (almost) everyday! Think the thing that 'scares' me most about post-pregnancy figure is lack of bladder control, will be buying some kegel balls at some point too (would link, but the only one I've seen are on Lovehoney, which wouldn't be worksafe for all of you)!

Our car seat & buggy should be here by the end of the month, which would leave us with just the nappies (and assorted baby/bathroom bits) and a few little things to get. I made a list of what we've got the other night!

mopsytop · 07/09/2011 15:17

Can you use kegel balls when pregnant? going to start the pelvic floors every day as of NOW!

LondonGirly · 07/09/2011 19:02

Hello all,

This week have been back to school and the bump has unsuprisingly caused a bit of attention - don't think people thought about the fact it would grow quite a bit in six weeks!!

That's a shame that the baby show wasn't better, not sure that I will bother with the London one - that and I genuinely can't face travelling around on the tube and train with anything more than a handbag!

I haven't bought a pillow thing yet - are they worth getting? At the moment I am sleeping on my side with a pillow by legs/bump.

28 weeks on Friday - I can't believe we are almost at the 3rd trimester - although the constant heartburn should be enough of a reminder!

Figgy i've decided eating sweet stuff is my craving - although I know it isn't good for me!!

AWCH next time around I am going to enjoy fitting into my non maternity clothes for longer rather than thinking I needed to move into full maternity clothes so early, I really could have made use of my normal wardrobe certainly in terms of tops for longer! Whereas now, they just don't cover the bump!

figgygal · 07/09/2011 19:44

I went swimming this evening after work went home picked up swimming bag and the husband tonight I'm going to do pelvic floors until I ache oh and watch some naughtily downloaded true blood series 4.

For the first time today noticed now difficult it is to bend down and pick things up feeling properly pg can't believe still hd e 3 months to go on Friday

LondonGirly · 07/09/2011 19:58

Well done on the swimming :)

I need to go again - how nice is it to feel weightless?!

Why is it I only remember to do pelvic floors when I read about them on threads...oh well!!

NorthernChinchilla · 07/09/2011 21:18

Have only swum once but it was lovely...far better than the 'beachball stuffed down jumper' feeling most of the time. I know what you mean figgy, it's such an effort already getting to stuff on the floor, and I can't believe I've got another three months of getting even bigger!!

Have been a good girl with the pelvic floors- I've always done a 15 min workout at home each workday morning, and I've just adpated it for preggie exercises, so out go the situps and in come kegels and the arching your back thingy. Means not having to actively remember to do them!

Trying to think AWCH if there is anything I'd do differently, and can't think that there is...I feel I've been really lucky with this pregnancy, in that it happened quickly and has trundled along quite nicely...would try not to be surprised/disappointed at partner's lack of excitement to begin with?! PS- River Island don't do the maternity, the brilliant trousers are in the general section. Because of the weird top bit, which literally comes up to your boobs if you unfold it, it can't break or anything. Good luck finding it at the Bluewater shop though, it's sooo big!

Joining the general shock LondonGirly at heading into the third trimester- so weird to think that in a couple of months people will actually start having their babies! Wonder who'll be first....!

Awomancalledhorse · 07/09/2011 23:31

mopsy, my logic says if I can put a penis up there during pregnancy, kegel balls should be ok Blush but I'll double check with MW (she's going to LOVE me)!

figgy, I make old lady noises when I bend down now, DH thinks this is hilarious.

Northen, thanks for letting me know about trousers! Will have a look round on Monday, mentioned on the other thread I had to buy an emergencey size 16 top(!) in Tesco earlier today, so hoping I can find something that looks decent.

LondonGirly, you'll just have to read the thread more often, oh well! Grin

mopsytop · 08/09/2011 08:02

AWCH you made me laugh - I also make old lady noises every time I sit down. It's just always such a relief to sit down!!
