Brewing a March baby!

Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

Good news, Carlita- where did they measure to/ from? I've a feeling I may measure a bit small.

knitterati · 13/12/2011 23:27

Hmm. Interesting about how many babies grow out of their Moses basket. I didn't know they did different sizes in basket..knowing the BIL it was probably the cheapest one they could find!

Congrats on the measurement Carlita.

Kiki don't worry. I had my 25wk appt last week and was measuring small (22cm). MW said it was perfectly normal so early on (for measurements). The Dr. wasn't concerned and also said that the measurements the MW takes often have no bearing on the baby's actual size.

Wordweaver · 14/12/2011 00:35

Wow wow wow!

Just have to say - HOW amazing and weird it is to see my stomach wiggling and moving around by itself.

I've seen little pushes outwards for weeks, but tonight in the bath I swear my whole stomach just rolled like a wave!

KikiRC · 14/12/2011 10:20

Thanks for the reassurance, knitterati- I think you're right, my mum was pretty small with me, but I was 8 1/2 lbs when born. I think it depends on the MW- I know some people who have measured small keep being sent for measurement scans 'cos they're covering their backs. Just I'm seeing the MW right before Christmas, I'm trying to prepare myself for measuring small so that I don't then worry about it over the holidays. Does she measure the uterus itself, or just the general bump? My bump still changes so much in size- when I stayed with my parents on Sunday night after having been out for a big meal I was enormous & bursting out of my party frock- by the next morning I was literally half the size. It's strange- sometimes I feel (& look) heavily pregnant, other times wearing a sloppy jumper you really wouldn't notice at all...

I love the tummy rolls in the bath too, wordweaver! Amazing, isn't it? X

Wordweaver · 14/12/2011 10:55

KikiRC, when the midwife measured me the other week, she went from the top of the pubic bone to the top of the uterus, which was somewhere above my belly button. She had to feel for where it was. They give 2cm leeway as well.

KikiRC · 14/12/2011 13:12

Thanks ladies. According to my own wonky measuring it looks to be at about 23cm (I'm 25+5). So a little bit small, but hopefully within normal range.

Wordweaver · 14/12/2011 14:04

I'm sure it'll be fine, KikiRC. Sounds as if you have a petite frame. Besides remember, they are not infallible. I am pretty sure that mine put my weight down wrong at the booking-in appointment. On my notes it says 67kg, and I am less than that now!

I am a bit annoyed actually - I only just borrowed a set of scales to weigh myself on, as I really wanted to keep an eye on how much I was putting on over the course of the pregnancy. No idea how to do that now! Oh well, I'll just eat a bit more chocolate then . . .

Carlitawantsabauble · 14/12/2011 16:14

kiki 23cm would be in the normal range (2-3 cm either side) at first my midwife said "27, so 3cm over, that's fine" then I corrected her and said I'm 25 so it's only 2 cm over but she clearly wasn't bothered by 3 either. As far as I know they would only refer you for a growth scan if your measurements are off later on, she said at the stage uteri (? Grin) grow at different rates and it is still quite normal.

KikiRC · 14/12/2011 16:20

Thanks, WW & Carlita- the baby is kicking & jiving away very happily so I think it's doing OK in there! X

Carlitawantsabauble · 14/12/2011 17:10

Guess what? The guy who stole our house has pulled out and we now have complete choice between the two! Very nice position to be in to be sure we've made the right decision! Xmas Grin

KikiRC · 14/12/2011 17:56

Oh, wow Carlita- what are you going to do? Would you be able to exchange on the first one really quickly as you had it all sorted already? Exciting!

Carlitawantsabauble · 14/12/2011 18:24

I think we're going to stick with the new one, it really is a better house. Lovely to be given the choice and ensure no regrets though. We have tonight to think about it. The old one was prettier and on a prettier street, 2 streets closer to the old town. The new one has a much better garden, more storage and better proportioned rooms. We would be able to exchange very quickly on the old one but the new one is chain free too so shouldn't take long!

KikiRC · 14/12/2011 20:57

Funny how it works out with houses, isn't it? The second one sounds really nice. I'm sure you can make it just as pretty. I'm on a major DIY/ decorating splurge at the moment- I think I've started nesting! X

Carlitawantsabauble · 14/12/2011 21:18

Couldn't ever make it as pretty kiki but it's what's on the inside that counts isn't it? Xmas Grin
Nesting sounds good...can't wait!

knitterati · 15/12/2011 05:21

That's great news Carlita what a great position to be in to have the choice. It serves the vendor right for being greedy!!

word i've started seeing little kicks too! Sooooo cool! Like you say - wow!! Bump has had a very active evening too - the first time I've been aware of the party in my tummy as I've been trying to get to sleep Grin

Have been awoken by the pesky cat at 4am Angry now, me nor DH can get back to sleep AngryAngry. I'm looking forward to the hormones that help you get back to sleep after night feeds!!

Carlitawantsabauble · 15/12/2011 09:17

knitterati there are hormones for that? Wow, it's really quite amazing how it all works isn't it?
Angry at your cat! Mine does the same quite frequently but not until 7/8 am so I feel lucky in comparison. It's annoying though as she just wants us to get up, she has food down all the time so doesn't need anything, just wanders around shouting Angry
DH has seen my belly move too now, it is amazing. I think he is quite active in the night too but I am a very heavy sleeper so wouldn't normally notice, however I started getting leg pains 2 days ago, feel just like growing pains as a teen (awful) which kept waking me up all night. The pains worked there way into my dreams and I had a horrible one where someone had tricked me into going into hospital, gave me an epidural (in my ankle Grin) which made my legs go numb then all these alarms started going off and they gave me a c section, wasn't nice! Sad but when I woke up from it in the middle of the night the little man was moving like I've never felt him, I has my hand on my belly and could feel bits of him brushing past, bony bits like elbows and flatter bits like hands and feet, it was lovely Grin

KikiRC · 15/12/2011 10:57

I'm with you all re: cats in the night! I also have seagulls tap dancing on my roof. Hope it's not restless leg syndrome, Carlita- my friend had that in late pregnancy. I find I sometimes have achy legs on days when I've been sitting a lot- i.e. on the computer all day- a bit of extra walking about & hot bath seems to help.

Carlitawantsabauble · 15/12/2011 13:35

Don't think it's restless leg, it just aches. Think it's the start of cramp! Can't do walking because of the PGP but do spend at least two hours a day in the bath (helps the PGP). I think swimming is supposed to help, been twice this week but will try a third. Very irritating!
In nicer news, I'm off to the cinema this afternoon to see Hugo 3D. Hoping it'll give me a Christmassy boost, still not really feeling it!

broodylicious · 15/12/2011 21:20

Wow carlita - great news re house! So pleased for you Grin

Kiki - defo nothing to worry about re sizing. My MW said three centimetres either way is completely normal Smile

So today, I've mostly been signing up to online baby clubs! Tons of freebies to be had out there, mummies to be, would defo recommend signing up Smile

KikiRC · 15/12/2011 21:26

I've heard good things about 'Hugo'. Hope you enjoy it. I thought it was a kids film, but it's only on in the evenings here.

KikiRC · 15/12/2011 21:28

Which ones did you sign up to Broody? I think I joined Pampers (free nappies) & Boots.

Carlitawantsabauble · 16/12/2011 09:39

Hugo was great, I thought it was a kids too (I like both) but it was much more grown up apart from bit of slapstick with one character. Well worth seeing in 3D, it was done really well to help draw you in to the world of the film rather than just doing corners of things and making a few things fly at the audience like some films. Xmas Smile

Carlitawantsabauble · 16/12/2011 09:43

26 weeks today! And kiki! That sounds serious!
I am a bit annoyed, I planned on starting 2 cups a day of raspberry leaf tea at 25 weeks; bought it in the holland and Barrett sale at about 20 weeks and can't find it anywhere. Going to look again today and if I can't find it I'll have to go and buy some more. Grr...

Wordweaver · 16/12/2011 10:29

God, I can't even remember the last time I went to the cinema! Actually that's not true, but it was our little local one in a barn - the massive multiplex in Plymouth does my head in a bit these days. Must be my age. :-)

Carlita, do you mind me asking why you are starting with raspberry tea at 25 weeks? I have probably misread something somewhere, but I thought that they recommended not drinking it until about 37 weeks? Sorry if I am asking a silly question!

KikiRC · 16/12/2011 11:04

Interested in raspberry leaf tea, too- though I've also heard you shouldn't drink 'til later on. My mum drank it copiously throughout her pregnancy with my sister- went into labour which lasted less than 1 and a half hours- she absolutely shot out- was extremely stressful for mum, as dad didn't make it there 'til the very last second & the MWs weren't taking her seriously- they thought she had hours to go! So I'd check recommendations carefully...
