hi ladies fresh new thread in which hopefully we will ALL have our babies happy and healthy on the right side of our bellies by the time it comes round to a fresh new July new born thread :)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

twit neither, don't worry!

Well, it's been a busy w/e here. Bloods taken on Friday clotted so they came again yesterday. The result is that bili levels have fallen to 315 so that's great news.

Unfortunately, S seems to have colic. He won't swallow gripe water but seems ok with infacol which seems to help with his wind at least. He has it all day too.

And he and dh are in cahoots. He shouted and shouted last night and then at 9pm I buckled and he had 1oz bm combined with 3 oz formula and he was utterly content til 10pm when he went to sleep in my arms. Popped him in his basket and he slept til 1.30. So that really helped dh's argument that he needs it and my state of mind not a jot. Sad

I've never had to deal with colic so I'm at a loss.

Sympathy to all those needing it for various reasons. I'd poo all over the person who took me to a football match too Smile. Even if it was in a bar!

Want2bSupermum · 14/08/2011 23:01

button Anna wldn't take gripe water to start with so I put it in a syringe attached to her dummy. When she was sucking for dear life I would squeeze a bit in. Now if she is really screaming I use the mum ones and fill up the little plastic bit with gripe water. It is enough to take the edge off to get the rest in.

I can't remember if you said you were pumping or not. Wld it be an idea to pump and that way your DH can do a feed to give you a break and you can add gripe water directly to your milk.

DH was supposed to be going for a walk.... serves him right that she pooped all over him for lying to me.

SelinaDoula · 14/08/2011 23:22

All going well here. Finn is now 11 days, BF going well, he was 4.6% down on his birth weight on day 5, going for nother weigh in tomorrow. I havent reallyput him down at all, am co sleeping, but I need to rest, doing too much and need to rest and chill.
Hope you are all well.
S x

prolificwillybreeder · 15/08/2011 09:07

Hi all,
Colic is horrendous! DS1 had it terribly. Colief is apparently quite effective with BF babies. I bought it once and if it worked I could of gotten it on prescription. However DS1 didn't get on with it.
Dentinox drops work well as does gripe water.
Lots of baby massage and a bath at about half 5 seemed to ease things.

Things been bit stressful here, DS2 is now on lactose free milk. He is so much happier! So things are calming down a bit. Sleep training DS1 seems to be helping him. Oh and trying to get DS2 into a routine, mainly for my benefit. My brain is mush!

Still it's 9am and none of us are dressed!

Eglu · 15/08/2011 09:15

We are never dressed at 9am PWB. However we are back to school tomorrow, so will all need to be up and out for 8.30 am. Eek!

Sorry to all those that are struggling.

prolificwillybreeder · 15/08/2011 09:28

Argh 8:30! Hope it goes well Eglu :)
I imagine it will be quieter in the Eglu household tomorrow!

prolificwillybreeder · 15/08/2011 09:39

Just out of curiosity, how is everyone's LO's napping? Ds2 is terrible. I try to put him down drowsy but it doesn't seem to work :(
White noise and mummy cuddles seem to work but unfortunately this is not ideal.
Any tips anyone?

buttonmoon78 · 15/08/2011 11:00

My kari-me is the best thing (currently asleep in it now). He will sleep in his basket/carrycot but only if he's solid gone before putting him down. He loathes his car seat and will not settle if you drive anywhere or put him in the pram.

I was dressed by 10 today. An achievement I feel! Am totally unenvious of your 8.30 start!

The bottle success on Sat pm was short lived. He did settle last night but not for as long and that was after chucking up most of the bottle. Dh less impressed and vocal as most pf it was on him! Grin

RE dh, I had a real honest conversation with him yesterday. He has got a little more sensitive since. I know it won't last and I'll need to repeat it but even a few days without undermining and conflict would be great!

Who's using a dummy? I'm wondering if it would help the colic but am fearful of the effects on bf. Dh is not happy as he's got visions of him needing one at 5 or something but I told him his principles were all very well when he only has to deal with it on weekends Grin

Eglu · 15/08/2011 17:33

Prolific DD wasn't very good at napping but is getting better as she gets older. 7 weeks now and settling better in the day. I would go with what works for now and he will hopefully settle down soon. I was unused to this with DD as my DSes weren't like that all.

Button I tried a dummy but DD wouldn't take it. You can always tell your DH that you can take it away at 6 months or so when he has grown out of the colic.

prolificwillybreeder · 15/08/2011 19:58

I use a dummy with both of mine. Helpedaddively with colic especially when dunked in gripe water! DS1 only has it for night times and leaves it in cot of his own accord.

Anyone else utterly exhausted?

prolificwillybreeder · 15/08/2011 20:00

I have no idea what happened there but anyhow i found a dummy helped with colic

buttonmoon78 · 15/08/2011 20:14

I think that would discourage him even more - he wouldn't take a dummy tonight and gripe water makes him screw his face up. He's learning to like the infacol though!

Fraochsmum · 15/08/2011 20:27

Evening all! That made me laugh want2be :) DH is an avid Rangers supporter and I have warned him under pain of death to get DD's any form of football gear!
OMG DD2 rolled over this morning! I put her on her tummy without clothes (flat surface) and she wriggled round onto her back. She really loves being on her front, so I put her back and she did it again! Slightly disconcerted that I can't leave her from now on - not that I walk off for long periods you understand, but it was a nice novelty to be able to have a baby that didn't move for a while :)
We give her a dummy to settle her sometimes, mainly at night. She mostly spits it out, but does help on occasion. it is one that doesn't damage their teeth and the hv said recent evidence suggests that they can help prevent cot death. Not sure how accurate that is, but we used one for DD1 too and just stopped when she was about 7 months.
DD2 sleeps really well thankfully, I breastfeed and she generally only wakes between 3-4am for a feed and goes right back down afterwards. Though last night she fed on/off from about 8pm-1am :( I got an hour of peace but I really wondered how I could keep up! At least she didn't feed again till 6 though ;)
6 week check tomorrow so hopefully all will be well x

buttonmoon78 · 15/08/2011 20:58

Sat here with ds asleep on my L arm. His poor tummy is gurgling like bad victorian plumbing Sad

buttonmoon78 · 16/08/2011 12:57

Well - another thing to add to the mix... Went to gp today to ask about lactase deficiency. Gatecrashed a (not mine) HV clinic on the way in to ask if any of them were good at spotting tongue tie. Turns out ds may well have a posterior tongue tie as well as an enlarged upper lip frenulum.

GP said it was not big enough to be of any issue Hmm

Spoke to bf helpline just now as one of the bfc is trained to do divisions and he's booked in for Thursday afternoon Shock She said she'll do a full assessment and if it's not necessary then won't do it but said if he's got any heart shaping at all (he does) then she will almost certainly be able to help and it may well be causing most, if not all of his problems!

I'm only mildly optimistic TBH, but if it only helps with 'most' of the problems that's a damn sight more than I'm managing now!

It would so great to be able to actually 'do' something effective and then get bf properly going. That thought alone is enough to keep me going til Thursday afternoon.

Want2bSupermum · 16/08/2011 14:13

I have achieved a major victory with DH. He is now doing the full morning feed, burp, play and settle back to sleep routine! Anna had really bad wind last night. She started crying at around 3am. When I picked her up she recreated the noises of an infantry attack. For some reason I still laugh like a school girl when she farts!

button We have used dummys since the hospital. They use the flat top 'smilie' Avent ones but also recommend the mum ones for breastfeed babies. The lacation consultant told me to only use after a feed to help them settle and expel any wind stuck in them.

We have decided that Pampers isn't the best nappy for 'windypoos'. I don't have time washables. Does anyone have any recommendations or things I can try/ do different. Huggies were worse (poop blew in all directions).

Twit · 16/08/2011 14:40

Button I'm not one for hugging etc but still, have one. You really are fab, every little victory keeps us going at times doesn't it?
Want2be I think that is actually as good as it gets. ALl you can do is try other brands and make sure you've got a nappy that is big enough to cope and that you do it up tightly enough around her legs and belly. The volume of the farts is what is the most amusing thing I think, DD let one go when she was tiny in the queue at Tesco's and people were looking at me! Shock
DS1 was bought a baby version of the Celtic kit and he and DS2 keep getting bought the bigger sizes even though DS1 isn't into footie and DS2 is very determined to be an Arsenal fan Wink
Eglu where did you get your new bras from, and your washable breast pads? How did the school run go?
Fraochsmum It's funny you said about your DD rolling over, BabyTwit did that and I just thought, nah can't have been on purpose, surface wasn't quite flat etc etc.

How is everyone today? Hopefully everything is going well for you all Smile

Has any one heard from Confuddled & Fab recently? Hope all is well with them.

prolificwillybreeder · 16/08/2011 15:30

Want2b- tesco nappies in the purple packet. Really good I found.
Hope the BFC can help you and your poor LO.
Twit, Eglu, FM and anyone one else I've fogotten hope you are all well.
Its my bday at the wkend, no idea what I want or what I want to do :(
Anyone got any gift ideas? I thought sleep and wine would be good!
Seems I have birthday depression! Sorry self indulgent whinge over.

buttonmoon78 · 16/08/2011 16:59

Wahey - 5.3oz on despite everything!

Want2bSupermum · 16/08/2011 19:01

Thanks PWB - we are in the UK in September so will use those while we are visiting my Dad. He has fabric sofa's....

buttonmoon78 · 16/08/2011 19:51

want2be make sure he gets some disposable changing mats too then for the inevitable leaks!

pwb my friend turned 30 only a couple of days after her dc2 was born. She insisted it was her 31st and had a big party for her 30th the year after. Could you postpone it til Sept?

Eglu · 16/08/2011 22:17

Want2be, I've just moved DD up to size 2 nappies in an effort to keep the poop in. The size 1's still fitted, but I'm sick of bright yellow vests.

Twit this website is good for nursing bras although they didn't have my size so I got them from here. My breat pads are bamboo ones from here. They are great once they've been washed. They are very soft and not too thick so you don't see them through clothes.

The school run was great. The boys were sent to bed v. early last night so were up, dressed and fed by 7.45 am. Grin They did all that themselves. Tomorrow won't be so great as DS1 had tae kwon do tonight and didn't get to bed until 9pm.

fallingandlaughing · 16/08/2011 22:28

want2be I have the same problem with Pampers and Huggies. Naturebaby are much better as the absorbent bit is wider and the fit is more secure. They are pricey but I have decided they are worth it - ended up with poop all down my arm using up the Huggies today.

buttonmoon78 · 17/08/2011 07:12

I tried size 2 - not because of the poo, that's ok. It was the wee! But size 2 was even worse so I've gone back to size 1. But then S is still only 9lb4 so maybe that's a reason.

Twit · 17/08/2011 12:57

I moved up a size (size 3) in the green tescos, too big ok with big poo though. I have just used a £2 off voucher for huggies size 3 so will report back. AM dithering with the tescos newborn size 2 as they seem to be a bit small now, but I think I'm being a bit of a Twit as they ususally contain it (give or take a yellow vest or two). I am sort of using washables too in the day which absorb most of it and don't leak (well, no more than the disposables at least) I also like tescos wipes (the green ones) too.
The nature nappy ones (I get from Sainsburys online) were good if I remember rightly and I vaguely remember Asdas own were ok too I think.
It's weird, with DS1 huggies were the best, with DS2 pampers.
Thanks Eglu I'll have a butchers in a minute. Well done on the school run, I'm sort of looking forward to when we start back (6th Sept and counting) because I like a bit of routine and well, it's real life isn't it rather than this lolling in bed 'til 8am malarkey plus there'll be no kids around .
I think at the moment my biggest outgoing is milk chocolate oaties (Tescos own hobnobs). They have (obviously) oats in them which is good for milk.... Wink
