Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Ocarina · 29/07/2011 10:51

I'm determined to have a happier day today, hope yours turns out that way too Booty. People who don't use/misuse stats to try and make you do what they want rather than what's objectively best should be shot. Do I remember rightly that you've been monitoring your own bp? How's it doing when there aren't any white coats around?

I hope Bitey's too busy snuffling to talk to us at the mo. (I've realised that refusing to have anything as technological as a smart phone could be problematic when in hospital post-birth - how will I communicate with the rest of the world?! I may have to steal TH's, although I can't work it for the life of me)

PollyPoo · 29/07/2011 10:52

Where IS Bitey?

Wol sorry for the delay, got back from hols last night. My BP started rising with both pregnancies towards the end. Not high enough to need meds until I was in labour. My MW told me the lower figure was the more important one and it had to stay under 100 for a homebirth. Unfortunately both times it went over. Sad I think with BB when MW came, I was 2cm and my BP was something like 140/110. She said she'd give me 10 mins and then check again but it had gone up to 138/126. In the ambulance it went up to somewhere around 185/130 or 140. The weird and annoying thing was that I felt absolutely fine, I didn't have PE and BB was fine too. Despite it all though it was a great birth, very quick, exhausting but amazing too. And now that I am looking at her rolling around on the floor and trying to crawl it has all paled into insignificance. Smile So what is your BP at the mo? And have they done blood tests to rule out PE? Sending you calming vibes. And cake.

PollyPoo · 29/07/2011 10:57

Sorry you had such a crappy day yesterday.

Good luck for the scans today Mooma and Pony.

AlpinePony · 29/07/2011 11:09

Isabella Oliver rocket.

I know you want your hb owl and I really do hope it works out for you.

owlbooty · 29/07/2011 11:35

occers yes, let us hope for a better day today! I am going to go and do a bit of light gardening in a minute. Calming things are good.

IO stuff is gorgeous and usually unaffordable, why was there not a sale when I was mid-diffed, damnit! Bit late now.

I shall cross everything for lovely scans today - may there be wiggling waving baybees :)

Pollster that is v.helpful thank you - mine has gone in the direction of 110 when faced with doctors, but not actually got there, 130 or 40 would, to use a choice phrase, shit me up properly and I'd be calling an ambulance myself if I'd ever got a reading like that. It tends towards 140/80 when I do it myself. Sometimes lower. Immediately goes up to 150+/100 when anyone in a white coat goes anywhere near me, which is somewhat unfortunate.

Latest plan is to get a doula and tell the consultant that I am going to give birth in the MLU whether she likes it or not (unless of course it goes up to that sort of level in which case I shall be v.happy to go down to the delivery suite).

owlbooty · 29/07/2011 11:36

Ps. BITEY !! Hope you're okay lovely.

BrownB · 29/07/2011 11:42

God Wol - that is pretty fucking distressing. I sadly know exactly where you're coming from with the misgivings regarding the medical quacks. I have gone from wanting to be a doctor at age 17 to hating everything relating to the medical profession at age 37. Well, I'll give you that they're good in an emergency. It sounds like you have a fair idea about what is going on in your body, and I really really hope that Owlet doesn't keep you waiting for much longer.

Now what is happening with that there Biter?

Ocarina · 29/07/2011 11:54

Sounds like classic white coat syndrome Owlie. (Which gets even less surprising when such people keep threatening things you don't want or need). Will they pay any attention to your own readings or is it only theirs that count? Have they tried taking bp, leaving you a few minutes then trying again? (possibly a waste of time but it used to work every time when I had to go for pill check ups, but to be fair that was a whole lot less stressful a situation). Come on Owlchick, the sooner you decide to get a move on the less stress your Mum will have to put up with.

tis lovely to see you my dear

LadyGoneGaga · 29/07/2011 14:44

Oh Owly. It's all rubbish - have no experience with bp ishoos am afraid so can't be very helpful. But big hugs, I know its flipping frustrating having the medical profession dictating to you what you are and aren't "allowed" to do as if you are a small child.

Hope you can have a relaxing day and get your BP down.

Just taken my little piglet for her first visit to the park. Stopped for cake Grin. Feels good to eat cake again. Would like to say that bf second time round is no easier Confused. Sore nips ahoy!!!

AlpinePony · 29/07/2011 15:12

Just back from scan. One baybee. Grin 2 arms, 2 legs, neck measurement fine (although this is not official NF scan), head & abdomen closed - and another bloody wriggler. Iron/glucose good - so FU Daily Mail.

I think NICE guidelines are a massive pita and are used against people - they are hateful things bandied about by people unable to apply personalised risk assessment or common-sense. I fucking hate them. The sort of people who quote NICE guidelines are the sort of arseholes who ineffectually wring their hands about just about fucking everything.

AIBU to keep checking bitey's fb page to see if anyone has congratulated her?

Ocarina · 29/07/2011 16:11

Yay for your wriggler Alps.

I baffled my midwife and surprised the consultant by quoting NICE guidelines months ago which amused me (was to do with heart issues they were checking out and I happened to know they'd changed). I suspect that on occasion they can be v useful things to bash medics over the head with if they back up what you want rather than what they're saying. Using them as a replacement for common sense is never going to be a good idea though.

MadameBoo · 29/07/2011 17:57

I keep doing that too Alps. Come on Bites.

LadyGoneGaga · 29/07/2011 18:29

Lovely scan news, Alps. Kind of a relief that it's not MOG TWINZ!1!!1!!!1 though Grin.

MiniG about to be picked up by his Dad for a long weekend. 4 days! Seeing as he is currently a huge cause of sleep disturbance AIBU to be GrinGrinGrin?

Ocarina · 29/07/2011 18:41

You do realise that as soon as MiniG is away MicroG will decide that the middle of the night is her favourite time to be awake.....

LadyGoneGaga · 29/07/2011 20:02

Yeah probably, Occy. Was kind of getting signs like that last night. She has started feeding a lot - was every hour or two hours last night. But in the one settled patch she did have bloody MiniG came into the room demanding I get into his bed with him. Which I did Angry. Got back in bed an hour later and he did it again about 6am!

Nipples are very sore as think I was too lax about demanding a perfect latch. My fault but it is sooo different feeding a newborn compared to a 2 year old! Will see if they heal a bit over the weekend, otherwise will call in the bf counsellors.

where is Bitey? Hope she's ok and snuffling right now.

owlbooty · 29/07/2011 21:33

Whoop whoop for the excellent scan Alps Grin And you are so right about the fucking NICE guidelines. Doctors seem to not understand the fact that they are 'guidelines' and not 'laws'. And boy, do they hate having the salient bits quoted back at them.

GG No YADNBU, enjoy the luffly peace and quiet :)

MadameBoo · 29/07/2011 23:47

The lack of Bitey news is nailbiting. I am going down to Wales tomorrow for a wedding, we had discussed meeting up. Think she might be a bit busy though.

Yay for good scannage Pone.

Medee · 30/07/2011 04:31

Still no bitey news?

Good scan news, alps.

Medee · 30/07/2011 08:01

Still no bitey news?

Good scan news, alps.

AlpinePony · 30/07/2011 08:17

Morning 'trigger' finger. ;)

moo I am soooo with you on maternity. This time its io/spendy stuff all the way. No more tents making boobs and belly morphed in to one. 2 days a week at the office this can be done, 5 days in weetabix/dog hair covered pajamas is a given obviously.

C'Mon biteybach, we're waiting to meet you.

ladyg I asked mw about MOG twinz as 'all' the books say because we is ancient we're supposed to be firing off eggs left, right and centre, yet amongst my peers know of only one set of non-ivf MOGs. She said its for reeeeeealy old Besh! ;) 40 plus?

LadyGoneGaga · 30/07/2011 09:44

My friend got a set. Sadly there were probs though and they had to terminate. She was 38 and they were natural. So perhaps it is true.

BrownB · 30/07/2011 10:52

Great scan news Alps. How many weeks are you along now? I should know (11 weeks?). The IO stuff looks amazing. I may be tempted...

AlpinePony · 30/07/2011 11:22

Dated at 11 weeks, my calculations are 10 5 (for yest I mean), although I fibbed about period at booking in date because I ov early.

Io is supposed to be long, especially in trousers and jeans so although I think their marylin jeans are gorgeous, pointless for me and too lazy to get them taken up. Long dresses I can deal with. Last time I bought a knee length jersey from next, first time I washed it, barely covered my knickers. Demanded a refund stating that at my age and size a maternity mini-dress was highly inappropriate. ;)

G'WAN splurge, io will never be affordable again.

LadyGoneGaga · 30/07/2011 15:45

Looks like there may be some Bitey news on t'other place...

AlpinePony · 31/07/2011 11:32

bitey flavour news on other place. :)
