Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

lilyrose I went to pharmacist about hayfever, as we all know, there's nothing suitable whilst pregnant. But she told me there's a new nasal spray out called Prevaline, only thing without any steroids or drugs, it basically acts as a barrier to the pollen. Working so far, but tastes a bit gross, and doesn't help all the symptoms.
Maybe try that for a while, see if it helps at all?

Oh little boxes sorry you are leaving us :(

I am also struggling to sleep. I also use a pillow nest. I can't sleep on my front as I have a definate bump and it makes me feel sick. In fact the nausea is keeping me awake along with the noctural wanderings of the kids. Found ds2 downstairs on the sofa at 3am hes only just 2 :o
I have weaned ds2 now havent fed him since thursday and I think I am less tired for it although it is more exhausting dragging my sorry self out of bed to get him a drink of water!

lilyrose123 · 12/07/2011 17:15

mia mamma i got a spray its a sea salt one that does the same kinda thing, the problem is i sneeze that much that anything like a nasal spray is wasted!
last week i sneezed so much I pulled all my abdo muscles, and I can't go to zumba as its too strenuous on abdo muscles but sneezing a zillion times is ok LOL

Hello I am a first timer and very new to this. All my sympathy to those who are suffering from sickness I have two types of sickness tablets from the doc they seem to be doing the trick. Still can't eat properly though! Am due on Feb 3rd 2012! And I am 10+4 (think that's how you write 10wks and four days, apologies if not!) Not got the hang of adding smiley's yet!!

Flower82 · 12/07/2011 17:26

All the best little boxes, thinking of you Sad

Thank goodness it's not just me with the sleeping ( or lack thereof!) didn't have a problem last time but this time I'm really struggling! Is it still ok to lie on your tummy this early on? Keep wanting to and then panicking about squishing the little peanut!

littleboxes I'm so sorry for you, I wish you all the best in the future xxx

To everyone suffering from nausea and sickness I picked up a morning sickness ease stick today, its peppermint oil in a stick that you roll onto your wrist, it helps with the smells that usually set me off anyway. Its called Vital Touch Natalia, just in case it may help anyone else

herecomesthsun · 12/07/2011 17:44

Best wishes little boxes, sorry to hear your news Sad

hermionejgranger · 12/07/2011 17:50

littleboxes sorry you're leaving us :( thoughts are with you for the future x

oddeyes thinking of you too - best wishes to you and dh x

otoh - good news for bill and crazy
re: sleeping - insomnia has been the norm for about the last 5 weeks (am 8+2ish) - and although I slept better last night apparently I went for a bit of a walkabout! Muttering about floating testicles or something (Blush wtf?! - dh MUST have misheard me) and being unable to breathe. Also finding that when the sleeping is better, so's the nausea.

coffee I've had some slightly sharper pains over the last couple of days too - mostly on one side but occasionally the other. No bleeding though. Got MW 2nd half of booking appointment on Friday so will talk to her about it then.

phlossie · 12/07/2011 18:12

Sad to hear that it's definitely over, littleboxes. It's a good plan to treat yourself to something that wouldn't have been so much fun when pregnant.

And I'll be thinking of you and your DH, oddeyes - keep us posted.

Also at barf central at the moment. Managed to hold it in from Sainsbury's checkout until I got home, and then spectacularly chucked. And I threw up a cup of Roobosh tea this morning - it was still warm! So effing fed up with it. People keep getting excited for me, but I can't be excited until the sickness stops - I remember feeling like this with the other two.

As for the emotions... Can't read the paper or watch anything without crying. My DS got his first school report, and that sent me off good and proper (so proud of my clever boy). And my DD followed through ("I thought it was just a fart") in the park yesterday, which nearly made me cry for a completely different reason...

On the plus side, I'm sleeping like a baby!

Sorry to hear your sad news littleboxes, hope you have a relaxing holiday and find another bus to hop on board soon.

Glad to hear your good news bill.

I also had an unexpected scan today - appt letter came through yesterday to see consultant today. My booking appt with midwife isn't until Monday so they had to fill out all my notes. Couldn't see consultant without a scan so got sent somewhere else to wait for one. Got to see a fluttery little heartbeat Grin. Am not as far along as I thought though, only 7+2 which puts my due date back to 26th feb.

Sorry phlossie but you have just made me laugh with the tale of your dd in the park Grin.

Got to tell my boss tomorrow. A member of my team has resigned and me taking mat leave too will impact on what we do so I don't have a choice really.

Wishing you all a good nights sleep.

DonnaM82 · 12/07/2011 19:26

So sorry to hear your news littleboxes.

I spoke too soon about morning sickness - apparently doing the naughty sets it off! I've had no libido since conception (though I blamed it on taking our 3 year old nephew on his first camping trip - the most intense 72 hours of my life not helped by DH forgetting our sleeping bag and the car's suspension breaking!) and now, I'm worried that it will lead to hours of nausea, dizzyness and puking!

I've already had to stop taking the multi-vits and just use folic acid due to puking each and every multi-vit up. Banana tasted weird this morning and on my way home from the bank, I had to call DH to come and pick me up after coming over all funny. I was only a 5 min walk from home but due to the town layout, a 10 min drive. He still came for me though - bless!

It might be coincidence or just sod's law that I've complained about not having symptoms!

shipsladyg · 12/07/2011 19:35

Flower82 - I used to worry about laying on my tummy in my last pregnancy; until I went for my scan.. The way they pressed down quite hard with the sono- magic-wand-thing (or whatever the technical term is) put my mind at rest. plus I figure I've got loads of padding!!

My cats have gone all affectionate & attentive again; I must "smell" pregnant.

I can't watch Oxfam Ad's etc either. Tears everywhere.

Anyone relishing some "lasts" before the bump gets too big? Wearing nice knickers, close snuggling with DH, having the cat on my lap, being able to open/close the kitchen window without standing on a stool

DonnaM82 · 12/07/2011 19:38

shipsladyg - my cats are the same. Between those two and DH being over excited and hugging/patting my tummy every chance he gets, I never have a moment's peace!! lol

I can't open any windows in our house without a stool anyway so that's not on my list! I think for me, it will be driving - I'm so short that there isn't much room between me and the steering wheel as it is so I think I'll struggle to fit behind the wheel with a bump - and I failed my first driving test last week. Next one is in September and I don't know when it will be if I fail that one or if I'll fit!

Oh, and I remembered this time - 7+2

woowa · 12/07/2011 19:41

MW appointment was LONG! Had to give all details of previous pg and labour and how I fed DD etc. I quite enjoy answering endless questions and talking about pg so it was fun! She took about 7 viles (sp? vails? Tubes...) of blood and urine. She said i might be able to persuade consultant to let me have a low risk birth later down the line so not to give up hope of using water as main pain relief.

Biggest surprise/change from last time was that we're now advised to take vitamin D all the way through pregnancy. I always thought it was just people who cover their skin fully (Ladies who wear burkas etc) who had to take this but apparently we all should. Anyone else been told this? Got 15 day free sample of sanatogen. Ah, the freebees! The best bit about being pregnant :)

Declined Downs testing, so hopefully i'll have a scan at 12 weeks - apparently they do it a bit later if you want to blood test. Looking forward to it.

On tiredness, i keep thinking, this shows there is still a little baby there, and that helps me get through it. I'm not sure how any of you working pg people are getting through each day either, lots of sympathy from here. I think looking after a toddler is tiring, but nothing to going to work pregnant!

Off to read the bumph from MW.

9+6

shipsladyg · 12/07/2011 20:26

Woowa - we're declining the Downs testing too. It does annoy me that they automatically assume you want all the tests and also that if you receive a sad result that you'll automatically want a termination. I totally understand that this is what many people choose and I have no problem with that.

I'm so glad that there are less appointments in your second pregnancy. I hate them. Normally I'm such a science geek and love to know what's going on and why. I read far too much for my own good (I have a vast pregnancy, childbirth & parenting library) but the NHS are so pressed that I felt "processed" (stonewalled, patronised) for both my miscarriage & then being pregnant with DD, that it stressed me out totally. Sad I'd just like to wish away the next seven months.

woowa · 12/07/2011 21:09

I had forgotten there were fewer appointments. MW explained that and then wrote down a list of when the appointments would be, and there were about 8 - that didn't seem like fewer to me! As i'm high risk i'll have lots of mine in the hospital anyway, plus my kidney consultant last time wanted me to come in EVERY time i had a maternity appointment. I ended up spending a LOT of time in the hospital. Although it feels exciting from the perspective of 10 weeks, i was sick of it by the end and just wanted a normal pregnancy and an end to the constand blood tests.

I guess they assume most people will want Downs' testing because most people will nowadays. i think i'd rather not know and have to deal with any problems after birth rather than spending 7 months thinking about it. Also, I guess they can detect it in the anomaly scan at 20wks? Anyway, it's good that medicine is very advanced these days!

I've just managed to watch an hours' tv for the first time in weeks. But that has exhausted me, so off to bed now.

still 9+6...into double digits tomorrow!

Xavielli · 13/07/2011 07:41

I'm so sorry to hear that littleboxes, enjoy your holiday and good luck for next time.

Well, I managed a completely vom free birthday! Had a lovely relaxing day. Hope feeling good lasts a few more days atleast.

hermionejgranger · 13/07/2011 08:41

glad you had a good day, Xavielli [hsmile]

gonerogue · 13/07/2011 10:21

Glad you had a good day Xavielli

Sorry to hear your news littleboxes but you do sound like yoau re going to give it a good go the next time. Good luck and hope you are on another bus reallysoon

Oddeye hope all is going well with your DH.

Bill great news on the scan.

Hello to all of the other new people welcome aboard.

Sorry for the lack of other personals - I've been awol from the thread for about a week and wouldn't fit in everything.

've been back in work about two weeks and some days are fine - then some days are absolute hell It's not even sickness it's just nausea but I think that might be jsut as bad. PLus TMI I seem to have gone from one extreme to another - loose bowels to complete constipation.

Woowa when I had DD we were told to give her vitamin D drops for the first year of life - because rickets are on the rise and in Ireland and hte UK chldren don't get enough sun exposure. For the sae reason you shouldn't use factor 50 on children apparently factor 30 is good enough. My Dsis's were both shocked with me putting factor 30 on DD - until I explained and they then switched.

I wonder will I have to take Vit D - Dr didn'tmention it here but MW might when I go to the hospital.

Anyway better go I'll talk to you all later. DD not well so we are going to the doc soon.

9 + 5 here. (only 5 more weeks of feeling like rubbish if I follow the same pattern as last time)

LankyLegs · 13/07/2011 10:24

Just wanted to send condolences to littleboxes. You are sounding really positive and hope you are bearing up OK.

Happy Birthday for yesterday Xavelli so pleased you managed a vom free day!

WRT the downs testing - my 12 week scan is combined with the nuchal and tests etc but I was surprised they didn't ask as well. Lots of assumptions made. I personally would have chose to have them anyway as a natural worrier and 'need to know everything' type of person I think I would rather know if anything was wrong.

PArradog pleased you impromptu scan went well. Must be good to get some reassurance.

Hermoine I hope your pains are subsiding. I am sure its just ligament pain esp if you have no bleeding.

woowa news to me about Vit D but then I dont have my booking in appt for another week and a half. Being new to all this means I know very little anyway! I am just taking multi vits and reading 'what to expect'

Thanks to all for the tips on sickness and hayfever - I think a lunchtime trip to the chemist is called for. The sickness bands have done nothing for me and it looks like I am sat in the office with sweatbands but no one seemed to ask what they were!

I can not wait for the nausea and tiredness to stop so I can start performing a bit better in this new job of mine!

I have been reading a lot about vitamin d recently. Some are saying that bf babies need it too. anyway, I have a vitamin d and calcium supplement so might go and take one now!

CoffeeOne · 13/07/2011 11:44

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Just a quick update, had my scan this morning. All is well :) We saw a little heartbeat and I'm so happy! I'm measuring about a week behind which was expected as I have long cycles.

7+4 (I've done this week already!)

notcitrus · 13/07/2011 12:37

So much for fewer appts - I seem to have been signed up for obstetric care as well as MW appts. No idea why, as apart from SPD leading to epidural and ventouse, my pregnancy was 'as average as possible'. Will have to call them.

Trying not to worry until my scan in August, but I think it might be too late for a 12 week scan - better calculate and phone them too... The more I go on, the more I think blissful ignorance was a much better way of handling the first trimester - this is horrible! Including the decision about tests which I couldn't have last time. THink I will do them simply to be prepared if necessary, but I really want another child and I don't think I can handle another pregnancy or trying to get pregnant, so I take what I get (which we have to for the other 9999 medical conditions!)

FWIW they can't detect Downs after 13ish weeks - could only tell me I was pregnant and estimate dates at my 14.5 one, and at 23 weeks they could tell us that if our ds did have Downs, he didn't have any of the heart complications that can go with it, which was nice to know.

I have just made a banana cake.

I managed to forget to include the eggs, sugar, orange rind and butter.

There is little hope for my pregnancy brain for the remainder of this pregnancy.
