Mopsy what's the best way you've found to deal with your headache? This is the 4th day I've woken up with one :(

mopsytop · 11/06/2011 08:53

Darcies unfortunately I haven't found a best way. I cope when it's not a migraine, but it's hard. I just try to drink plenty and go slow, as rushing about makes it worse. When it's a migraine I cling to the bed thinking I am going to die and wishing I was dead until it passes. It is absolutely horrendous. Especially when you have to be sick as it makes the head even worse (I vomit when I have migraine). Going to doctor shortly to discuss, if he gives any tips will pass on. Note that I was on anti-migraine meds before I got pregnant so I am not sure anything bar going back on them will help me :( I need to discuss it with the GP as I don't want to go on anything that might harm the bean. On the other hand, not sure I can cope with the pain of migraine without proper pain relief. Paracetamol for a migraine is like putting a sticking plaster on a wound that needs stitches. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

msbuggywinkle · 11/06/2011 10:13

Darcies sleep! My headaches seem to have gone now, but I confess to child proofing the living room and sleeping when DD2 was napping. Only thing that helped for me really.

Looks like I'll be about 16 weeks by the time I have my 1st scan. The midwife I saw yesterday said that it is happening a lot to 2nd/3rd timers as they changed the system so you can't book your scan until after you have had your booking app. Not sure I can wait much longer!

xstitch · 11/06/2011 10:19

That's bad Mrsbuggy, what if you wanted the NT scan? Nothing like removing the choice. I haven't had my booking appointment yet, I'll be 15+3 when I do. I am very glad I have had my scan.

Sorry about the headaches. I have been quite lucky and going to bed for an hour after dd is at school has helped. Dd being at school and working shifts rather than 9-5 seems to have helped.

mopsytop · 11/06/2011 10:43

Just saw doctor Darcies and he said maybe I should go back on my anti-migraine but on a lower dose. It's not supposed to be bad for the baby. It would be better to take nothing obvs. I have the prescription but think I will wait 2 more weeks and see if I get another migraine. If so will go back on as can't cope with the pain. If I get 'copable with' (still v. unpleasant but don't have to be in bed) headaches might just hang on without medication.

chocolateyclur · 11/06/2011 10:51

Glad the scans have been going well ladies.

I'm due on dec 3rd and I too have been suffering enormous headaches - had a migraine on Thursday and ended up in bed for the night at 8pm.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 11/06/2011 13:17

I know I need sleep but finding it difficult, lots on my mind.

Think I will need to see the doc tho.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 11/06/2011 14:36

Loving having a fetal Doppler at home 162bpm :) so good to listen too :)

xstitch · 11/06/2011 15:42

I wish I could afford one darcies would worry I wouldn't hear anything yet especially as I have an anterior placenta. Even though I have had the scan I constantly worry that something has gone wrong. Wish I was far enough on to feel kicks.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 11/06/2011 15:46

Xstitch - got ours on eBay £35 x

xstitch · 11/06/2011 15:48

Really wow! . That leaves the anteroir placenta as the only drawback :).

thinkingpositive · 11/06/2011 15:59

Xstitch- I got my Doppler off of amazon for £12... Its a 3mhz (the same as the midwives use) its the angel sounds. Pink one. It doesn't give you the heart beat rate, but it does give you peace of mind knowing baby is well. Hint when looking for the heart beat start low by your pelvic bone.

I have just heard something on TV... Do not cross your legs while pregnant?? Is this trues?

Secondly is anyone suffering with nose bleeds? I never suffered but now while I'm pregnant, I have had 3 in 12 weeks.. They aren't bad but just enough to be annoying!!

xstitch · 11/06/2011 16:01

Well I would say it was true in the sense it is bad for you in terms of varicose veins and possibly DVT risk by decreasing blood supply. Also twists spine so bad for back ache. Can't see it being bad for baby though.

BluebellsintheSpring · 11/06/2011 18:44

Thnkingpositive - I def read that nose stuffiness and nose bleeds are more common in pregnancy. Can't remember the reason why though!

Liska · 11/06/2011 19:54

Hey all, Haven't been on since we left for Greece mid May, and am just back to sign off the thread and wish you all well.Things weren't going great for a while and I'm afraid I lost the pregnancy at 11 weeks, on Monday.

So I'm on iron tablets and bed rest for now, and renewed SWI once DH and I have licked our wounds for a while. DD is my lifesaver and keeps me smiling.

So all the very best to you all - hope your Christmas presents are healthy and happy.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 11/06/2011 22:51

Xstitch - mine is a Sonoline B 3mhz and can tell you the heart rate.

Liska - so sorry to hear of your loss.

mopsytop · 12/06/2011 09:14

Really sorry to hear that Liska. All the best for the future.

plupervert · 12/06/2011 09:50

Oh, dear, Liska. Sorry to hear that.

xstitch · 12/06/2011 14:10

So sorry liska hope you are doing ok.

xstitch · 12/06/2011 16:53

I really don't like this stage of pregnancy. No symptoms as such and too early to feel baby. I am so bad at relaxing.

msbuggywinkle · 12/06/2011 18:08

liska thinking of you.

xstitch I know what you mean, I feel altogether too normal! Felt like this with both of the DDs too, especially as I won't start to have a proper bump until I'm about 20 weeks.

Another of my friends has just found out she's pregnant, one was due last Monday but no news yet. Its great, this baby will have lots of others within 6mths of its age!

LittleMissFlustered · 12/06/2011 22:18

Wishing you and your husband well liska, take care.

Have got an appointment with the perinatal mental health team next week. I've not managed to confirm the appointment yet, but am hoping to psych myself up to use the phone in morning.

Hope everyone has had a nice (if soggy) weekend.

kri5ty · 13/06/2011 09:08

For all of you with Dopplers, do they work well? i'm 14 weeks, but when i looked in to them it said that they cant be guarenteed to work until futher on?

mopsytop · 13/06/2011 09:11

Scan today at lunchtime - nervous. And excited too.

thinkingpositive · 13/06/2011 09:57

Hi Kri5ty DH bought me my Doppler when he got jealous i got to hear our baby's heart beat at my MW appointment. He did abit of research and found the Angel Sounds fetal heart detector on Amazon for £12.
You think to yourself £12?? Would it actually work? Well, Yes!!
I love mine and use it on a regular basis as I?ve suffered a previous mmc and it gives me reassurance that everything is ok.
The only thing it doesn?t tell you is the heart beat rate... But then again you can get that at your MW appointments.

As i have said before, in early weeks of pregnancy look very close to your pubic bone. Quite low. Also i rather enjoy listening to baby moving around. You can hear swooshing noises of the arms and legs moving within the amniotic fluid.

I?m nearly 14 weeks now and i have been able to find mine since 9 weeks.

Good luck with your pregnancy!
