The "other" Ante-Natal thread has happy sticky baby dust and (()) hugs flying around. A few huns too. And mc's coming in thick and fast. Fuckityfuckfuck. It's a worrying time. Am trying to keep my anxiousness in check. (9 weeks today, 'reassurance' scan next week...)

LadyGoneGaga · 22/06/2011 11:08

Aw Brown. I didn't mean to belittle first trimester worry. As everyone knows I had brown pants for my entire first trimester having had a mc. Is just a different set of worries as Owlie says. And doesn't end when baby out either. Or ever - I think this goes with the motherhood territory. Let's face it if you didn't worry about some stuff you'd prob be a runbbish Mum

Ginfox · 22/06/2011 12:04

Blimey GG, you could be queue-jumping! At this time of day, I'd be quite happy with that, but by the time I get to bed and fidget about for 2 hrs trying to get comfy, I really want to get this baybee out asap. Asked MW if she could remove a couple of my ribs so I don't hurt so much, but she just laughed.

BrownEyedGirl definitely not more worrying, just different worrying to previous trimesters. Although first 12 weeks I wasn't so much worried as convinced it was all a big wind-up.

Rocket I'm not nearly there! I've got literally days to go yet [denial]. Friend of mine is due same day as me, and they aren't ready at all - cot arrived but not assembled, bag not packed, no birth plan etc. I like to think I'm fairly relaxed about things, but I wouldn't be able to sleep if I hadn't got a little bit ready. Mind you, this info came from her husband, so it's possible that she's organised, but hasn't let him in on the game plan.

owlbooty · 22/06/2011 12:15

Brownie let me clasp you to my increasingly alarming buzzwams

The first 12 weeks are utterly terrifying. I think I actually spent more time checking my pants in the office loos than doing any real work. Your reassurance scan will be a luffly thing and will definitely help put your mind at ease, I had my first scan at 9 weeks and could see all sorts of things on it including little fingers and toes and heart thudding away - I cried and snottered all over the doc out of sheer relief.

We are all behind you! Be strong! Here, eat this non-vom-inducing battenburg!

GG I think you are right and it is like one of those traps on Ghostbusters which starts leaking. All the trolls have escaped across the message boards. Before you know it Mr StayPuft will be destroying MN Towers. Doom! Mashmallowy doom!

I have not written my birthplan. Up to 37 weeks, my birthplan consists of "Fuck! Too early! Do whatever you need to do, medical people!"

After that point I may give it some proper attention.

rocketleaf · 22/06/2011 12:40

I have a 4 week old baybee and I dont have a cot yet! This is all because of mens inability to apply the correct terminology to things. IE we thought we were getting a cot off some friends and it turned out to be a crib. Bah Oh well dont have to worry about it for another 5 plus months and as she spends night times in our bed the moses basket isnt even getting much action :o

Thanks lady things are definitely started to even out, still sore but she is thriving so that's whats important. MUCH happier about the situation now.

LadyGoneGaga · 22/06/2011 12:51

Been to see the nurse. Have literally a whole bag of goodies and gadgets plus a shopping list of stuff to demand from my GP, including (excitingly), a sharps box. It's like being on Trainspotting. Dietician is going to call me too and have been transferred to a differnt Consultant so at my next appt there will be the Diabetes Consultant, the Obstetric consultant, the Diabetes Midwife, the diabetes nurse and my Student Midwife. Cosy, huh?! Hmm

Anyway, she scared the bejeesus out of me about "stuff that could happen" like stillbirth and shoulder dystocia and babies blood sugar dropping (so could end up in SCBU) and future risk of Diabetes for me and risk of birth defects in future pregnancies so that was nice and reassuring. After all that I tested my blood sugar and whaddaya know - it's lower than most normal peoples Hmm. But I know, I know one measurement means nothing and think the post-prandial readings are the key thing.

Anyway, the 38 week induction isn't a fait accompli but they will definitely not let me go over my due date more than a day or two. Will be doing the birth plan with "the guys" next week. Should be having another growth scan too. Is all so far from what I wanted.

Anyway, should pull self together as what matters is a healthy baby and a healthy-ish me and am frigging lucky to be here and pregnant in the first place.

My birthplan sounds much like yours Owlie.

rocketleaf · 22/06/2011 13:26

Oh lady big hugs. That all sounds very scary but it won't ve for long. You and miniG will be fine and soon it will all be a distant memory xx (yeah? And?)

owlbooty · 22/06/2011 13:41

More big hugs. I have seen many, many babies of women with GD and Type 1 diabetes and of all of those I can only remember a couple who had any sort of problems (and all were fine). The risks are only majorly risky when the GD is undiagnosed or badly controlled and people don't listen to the advice they're being given.

It is shit that it is so removed from what you wanted and I wish it wasn't :( But pliz do not listen to the scary horror stories. They are unhelpful and designed to scare those who, unlike you, would not be taking good care of themselves unless shocked into doing so - interestingly, there's about a million people in the UK with Type 2 diabetes who have no idea they have it and are still drinking beer and eating pies so this is what the diabetes teams are used to having to deal with, having to drill the risks home to everyone.

There is no reason why you cannot have a perfectly normal birth and even if Micro-G's sugar levels need a bit of a top up, that can often be done on the ward rather than in SCBU and you'll be home before you know it. I have my pompoms at the ready and shall be waving them supportively!

xx

Ps. Excellent work on the birth plan Grin

Medee · 22/06/2011 14:40

Hope you can reclaim some of your hopes for your labour, Gaga.

You might want to get building, Rocket - EA has outgrown her moses basket at 12 weeks.

Muser · 22/06/2011 15:16

LadyG an ex-colleague of mine had GD. She had a fine birth, a gorgeous healthy baby, and was glowing with health when she visited after the birth. It's definitely not all doom and gloom. Chin up.

rocketleaf · 22/06/2011 18:52

Havent even bought one yet medee!! And I suspect we will be co sleeping for a while anyway (forst semi successful lying down feed this avo!) Might take boo up on the offer of the bed side cot tho.

MadameBoo · 22/06/2011 18:54

I had GD Lady - found at at 28 weeks and was most upset. I won't bore you with the details but do PM me if you want to know anything.

MadameBoo · 22/06/2011 19:00

Sorry- just to add - re induction - they gave me a date at 38weeks, when I went up to delivery for it I argued the toss and they gave me an extra week. I could have argued for another week too the next time I was there I think, but by that point I was sick of fighting it. I have no regrets but if I get to that next time (if there is one) and I felt fine I'd make them give me another one ( week!). But that's easy to say when I'm not pregnant isn't it? Huge sympathies, it's a right pain in the bum.

LadyGoneGaga · 23/06/2011 07:49

Will have to see about induction when I see the consultant next week. The nurse said they wouldn't let me go over 40 weeks and may be earlier but would depend on how well sugars are controlled etc. But I'm sooo huge and my hips/pelvis are so sore that I don't think I would particularly object to an earlier date especially as baby is a good size. Would like them to try and do a sweep first or at least assess my Bishops score so we know whether is likely to succeed or not. I really want to avoid a section if poss.

First day of ML today - going to spend it...food shopping, washing and sorting out move stuff Grin

OP posts:
rocketleaf · 23/06/2011 08:40

You know the terminology like "they wouldn't let you" makes me really angry. It's not up to them, it's up to you. I am not saying the advice isn't good and that earlier induction might not be the best thing but it just annoys me the way they take control away. They cant make you show up to hospital!!!

AlpinePony · 23/06/2011 08:47

ladyg my mum had GD with my sister, she went in to labour naturally at 37 weeks and was thankful for that because of course GD causes whopper babies. My sister was nearly 12lbs, god knows how many chairs she'd have broken at 42 weeks. ;)

Ginfox · 23/06/2011 09:04

LadyG - I know you've got a couple of minor projects on the go - like moving house etc - but make sure you get at least a little bit of R&R. Fingers Xed for appointment next week.

Alps no wonder your Mum went early, with 12lb of baby bearing down on her cervix. [eyes watering emoticon]

MadameBoo · 23/06/2011 09:06

Smallboo was 7ib 7 at 39+2 - so not too massive - but goodness knows how big he'd have been if I had dug my heels in. Def something to consider isn't it?

owlbooty · 23/06/2011 09:25

To be fair though it's big body rather than massive head - they just look like little chubby cherubs. And squishy body is not so much of a problem when it comes to actually getting the baybee out.

12lb is a bit wince-inducing though.

GG hope you find some time today to put your feet up and enjoy the freedom :)

LadyGoneGaga · 23/06/2011 09:45

Ah, but my family all have massive heads in any case, Owlie. I do, MrG does, Ex-Mr G did and MiniG. He wouldn't fit in any of the titchy newborn hats! But hopefully won't be an even bigger head.

I know they can do monitoring Rocket so "let" is prob not the right word. But there IS an increased risk of stillbirth with GD so I'm not going to fuck around with it especially with risk of very large baby. MiniG came on due date so maybe would be good to go with a bit of a rummage anyway? Quite frankly have had enough of being pregnant although I know still have a few weeks to grin and bear it.

My sisters second was 8lb14oz and came 12 days early (even though sh'd gone a week over with first) so hoping similar could happen for me. Nurse said not only do you get a big baby but because the baby is having to make so much insulin it is also weeing a lot so you also end up with a lot of water. Hence massive bump I guess.

12lb Alps! Crikey. This is why am eating salad and meat from now on.

How is everyone elsew? Any twinges from *Ourkid

Ivegotmrbitey · 23/06/2011 12:44

Hello all Smile

sorry to hear about the GD gaga, it sounds like you have things under control. I know a hospital birth wasn't the plan but getting micro G for snuffles will be so amazing you won't even mind a removal van based arrival! In the mean time please enjoy this steak!

Scan and consultant went well but biteybach is BIG! Also the FDH and I both have massive heads, BB already has 9.7cm circumference! I've been OKed for birth centre but not discharged from Drs. She pissed me off by booking me in to plan an induction at six days post term when I am only 35 weeks! Give me a chance! I am ignoring her anyway as this baybee is coming early so there!

will catch up on rest now, onipod so rather slow.

LadyGoneGaga · 23/06/2011 13:37

Glad all went well. How big is BB, *Bitey

Don't worry about the scheduled induction thing. I think they just like to stick you in so you're in the diary already should you need it. You'll be fine though and bound to be early, but not too early. Grin

Had Houmous, wholemeal pitta and raw veggies for lunch . Will see what that does to the numbers. Will be pissed off if this results in a fail as have largely done meal planning based around wholemeal pittas with various fillings for lunches due to being lazy.

How are all our pukers doing? Hopefully pukiness is easing now? Any scans coming up .

Hope ESH meet going well, am a bit jealous.

Orchid12 · 23/06/2011 15:23

Hi,
Just dropping in to say I may well be on the way to having a baybee! Been feeling very twingy since late yesterday afternoon. Have had irregular contraction/period type feelings very low down all through the night and today (like having a belt periodically tightened under the bump). I've also got lower back pain, again like period pains). Walking seems to trigger these feelings more, to the point that I'm hobbling round like an old lady hanging onto things and breathing through them. It's nothing like I remember labour starting with mini O, so I may well be wrong! Have phoned the MW and she said it could just be the baby dropping and my body gearing up for labour as it already knows what to do, or it could be the start of full blown labour.

Am feeling a bit Confused and emotional as I also have mini O and he's struggling to understand why I keep stopping and wincing. MW told me to have a bath and put my feet up - fat chance with a toddler! If it's not labour at the moment, I am utterly convinced that I will be in labour by the weekend . Have got a girls meal out planned tonight so would be sods law to not be able to make it!

Muser · 23/06/2011 15:33

Oooh, exciting Orchs!

Ocarina · 23/06/2011 15:36

Ooooh, that's very exciting Orchid. Have you got people around who can help out with MiniO? Here's hoping it is baby on the way and not just your body giving you grief for no good reason.

Sorry about the GD stuff GG, hope the healthy eating works. I guess it's got to be good for you in general as well as blood sugar, so should be positive all round, despite being very annoying.

I'm closing my ears to all this talk of big babies . Mine's having a quiet day today, not yet quiet enough to be worrying but if I don't get more kicks this evening I might start to be concerned. This is going to carry on in some form or another for the rest of my life now, isn't it....
