Thought I'd take the plunge and go for it.

Snap lizzymathswhizzy that's the same Doppler I got. To be honest I wasn't sure how well it would work but it was so easy I am delighted. Dh managed to leave work sharp so looking forward to him trying it out. Hearing the heartbeat has made me feel better than the painkillers and antibiotics have!
My other piece of good news is that my mum is going to fly down to visit for a weekend as dh is on a stag do. Will be lovely to have some girl time with her. She is quite excited as it is her first grandchild and I think had given up hope of becoming a granny!

MooseyMoo · 01/06/2011 19:51

Glad people are having fun with dopplers but not so good that ms is still hanging around. bog off - it's the 2nd trimester now!!!

Having an incredibly stressful day today. DD is teething and I have never seen her like this before. Last week 3 molars appeared out of no where, I was obv too smug about it as we now have the start of the canines and they are apparently going to be extremely painful. Lots of crying, stropping, unsettled. Did have a couple of sweet moments with her like changing her at lunchtime and she played 'peepo' with her bodysuit - kept pulling it up over her eyes. V cute. Why am I doing this again?!?

Just realised I will prob have 2 babies teething at the same time at some point next year. What. Have. I. Done!!!

Bluetinkerbell · 01/06/2011 21:04

oh dear, that link to the doppler is lethal Wink
I had a tiring few days. DD, 2,5 has an ear infection since last Friday, first her right ear, now it has gone to the left one... Doctor on Friday didn't wanna prescribe antibiotics, just wait and give Calpol, doctor on Monday same again. Last night she was in agony, not wanting to sleep, crying (she never cries, unless something is really wrong) We phoned NHS Direct at 1am this morning to ask what to do, as she kept on asking to go to the hospital... They advised to get Nurofen. So we all went to Asda to get that... got back at 2am shethen settled down after having that, but was next to our bed this morning at 5.40am...
We all had a lazy day today watching tellie all day and me working on the sofa. (Sorry that was a bit long)

Anyone wearing contact lenses and having trouble with them?
I went in for an eye test and got a new prescription, but they just don't feel right, have also very dry eyes...

I'm counting down till my 20 week scan in 2 weeks!

Tomorrow I'll be out shopping to find a dress to go to 2 weddings in the next month! :)
That's gonna be a mission!

SnoozleDoozle · 01/06/2011 21:09

Evening all!

I have a quick question. I was just wondering is there anyone else not feeling movement yet? I don't think I'm feeling anything yet. Its five years since I was last pg so I can't really remember at what stage I felt anything last time. I am feeling a tightening sensation across my belly every once in a while, but I'm not getting that 'bubble bursting' sensation that I think I remember.

I consulted Dr Google (I know, I know, its the last thing you should ever do!) and was pleasantly surprised that various websites said its normal not to feel anything until around 22 weeks, but of course that only reassured me for about 5 mins!!

I don't get a 16 week appt, so if I really start panicking, I'll have to go to the GP, and I'd really rather not. He is lovely, and would be very understanding, but I don't want to be a neurotic mother.....

bumpandisaacsmum · 01/06/2011 21:34

snoozle don't panic about not feeling movements...it is very early still, with DS I didn't find out I was pg until I was 23 weeks & even then was over a week before I could recognise movement!!! My sis (who knew early on she was pg) didn't recognise feelings of movement until after her 20week scan!!!

Hope that helps x

MooseyMoo · 01/06/2011 21:35

Snoozle I'm feeling a little movement but its random. For me, it feels like a muscle twitch. For first baby I felt it move at 18 weeks, this one 16 weeks. I have to really concentrate to feel it and I find the best position is on my stomach (my fave sleeping position).

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 01/06/2011 22:44

Oh bluetinkerbell I am so sorry to hear DD is in pain. Sometimes it's worse when they can tell you things - how heartbreaking she was asking to go to hospital. Hope she gets better very very soon.

With regards to teething, we've just had the allclear from the dentist that DD's have all come through now, phew. She's 3 in Sept and it's one of the things I'm not looking forward to with baby as DD always got ill everytime another tooth came through.

I'm feeling tiny movements every so often but nothing clear cut. When I'm swimming I feel the bump really tighten.

And I thought dopplers were stupidly expensive, so omg, ordered the angel monitor from amazon today - you're a bad influence ladies!!

Bluetinkerbell · 02/06/2011 00:09

MrsArch yeah it really is heartbraking. She seems ok now, doctor this morning did prescribe antibiotics as it was a long time since it started. Just gave her some more Calpol to get her a painless night of sleep!

I will have to admit that I gave in and just ordered the doppler...
Estimated shipping date is 2 to 4 weeks though, hopefully that changes still!

Night night!

PoppysMom · 02/06/2011 02:56

Hi all,

I had a good scan. Baby is healthy and active.
THe doctor was able to tell me that we are having a little DD. I am so excited :)
NT results came back low risk, so no worries on that front.

I am glad that your DD is feeling a little better bluetinkerbell! Hope she can fully recover soon.

Never, I am worried too. I have no clue really about anything.

As for Prams/travel systems, I guess you need to think about what you need from it, etc. Once you have an idea (ie, it should be lightweight, if you have to carry it upstairs, fold small, because the boot of your car is tiny, etc) just go to a shop and take a look around and ask them to demonstrate a few for you.

About nappies, don't worry too mjuch. As previous posts said, start with disposable and then once you know what you are doing you can change to re-usables?

As for a to-do list...read loads of MumsNet. I found the information on here very good and there is plenty of it!

PamSco · 02/06/2011 07:53

Ladies, ladies, thank you all for your messages. Feeling a bit better now. A bit tender but managing to eat again. If I wasn't pg I'd have thought of the last week as an excellent spa break. Lost 5lb and skin has cleared up thanks to saline drip.

I thought I'd been feeling movements little flutterings. But nothing the last 5 days, and my boobs have shrunk and nips have stopped being sore. All a bit worrying but I had 2 scans while in one for amnio on tues and one at rhe same time as checking gallbladder both times the wee might was sitting punching the air fighting the world. So don't worry, if you have no lower pain or bleeding high chance is everything is fine.

I'm not getting tempted by the doppler yet. The mw only found the heartbeat once out of 4 tries in hospital - talk about a worry! Partly due to it being early (15+5 when I went in) and mostly thanks to my big belly. I'd be scaring myself if I tried to do it at home. I'll wait for a 10 weeks before I start using one, I'm lucky my pal has one i'm borrowing.

juststarting · 02/06/2011 08:38

I too have the angel sounds doppler.
Never, you echo my feelings with my first pregnancy precisely, and the thing was, I never really felt sure I had covered everything I needed too! But it was all fine in the end. Though I got a telling off from the midwife as I had a homebirth and was so determined to breastfeed I hadnt though to buy a bit of formula in case. Oops. Also got a telling off from thenurse at my sons first injections as I had no calpol in the house. 19 months on and we're still functioning though. Just about, anyway.
I too am still having some ms. I mean, its definitely better, but its not gone! And I am bloating like i'm 7 months pregnant by the evening and its really, really uncomfortable. I feel like I should be able to stick a needle in and relieve the pressure! And I look at the size and shape of my belly and where the baby must be and there is scant correlation. Bugger. Also still not feeling movement, but not quite 15 weeks yet, so wouldnt expect to.

neverinamillionyears · 02/06/2011 09:09

Juststarting, thanks for the info. I'm sure we will be ok It's just that there is so much choice! Bloating, I can understand that I seem to bloat really high up just under my chest. Very odd. Did two ten minute sessions of the pilates dvd yesterday. Luckily not a ball in sight. Phew. Felt a bit stretched which is good but did it as I couldn't let the 36 week preg instructor show me up :-)

neverinamillionyears · 02/06/2011 09:14

Poppysmom - congrats on the scan. Think we are going to find out what we are having, I don't think its spoiling the surprise just getting it early. I don't think I'm going to need any motivation in labour other than to get it out!

PoppysMom · 02/06/2011 09:17

Pam so glad you are feeling better and eating.

I felt movements almost 2 weeks ago. Then nothing until last week, when i had a brief spring-like feeling and then again yesterday during a thunderstorm. I asked the doctor to check the location of my placenta and it is on the front along the left side. So I can only ever feel baby when she's on the left

I am not getting a doppler. I would freak myself out like crazy!

cookie9 · 02/06/2011 09:22

Re bloating one of my friends was told by her mw to eat more protein to help reduce the bloat.
Dh and I both had headphones on last night so we could listen to the Doppler together. Was great.
Need to book my nct classes today. October does seem a long time before any classes but may convince dh to go to a hypnobirth class with me. Anyone tried these?

MooseyMoo · 02/06/2011 10:30

For those looking for maternity dresses there are quite a few on sale at ASOS

PamSco · 02/06/2011 10:52

cookie9 I'm booked into hypnobirthing, starting the end of July. I haven't listened to my cd yet I'm told at first it is hard to keep a straight face :)

Everyone I know who has used it 2 mw and a colleague in work raves about it. The work person said she never really got a chance to use it as she ended up with an emergency section but she dealt with everything much more calmly because of the hypnobirthing training.

Hope OH isn't reading this (if you are stop now!), but I am concerned about his regreting this whole situation. Since we didn't really plan to have kids and I know he would be happier to some degree if we weren't my being crook may be pushing him more into a confirmed regret. I know he won't show it to me but I am worried he will resent the baby. Probably just having an emotional glitch today.

Missyraines · 02/06/2011 13:26

Glad pam is out of hospital. Nothing like being at home.

My check up on Tues for my cyst op scar and present cyst went well. The consultant tried to find a HB (I'm 15+3 today) but because of my scar tissue said oh we'll just scan you. He only tried for 30 secs so not really much of an effort. I got to see junior again very briefly as he was mainly looking for my 6cm cyst on my left ovary. He couldn't see anything on there though.

Junior was much bigger than 12 week scan and waved. Gutted my DH wasn't there as I just thought it'd be a chat. I have my 16 week mw app next Weds. Do you think it'll be OK for him to come to that? I'd love for him to hear the HB.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 02/06/2011 14:23

Just popping by to say hello.

missy you can take your DH to any appointment you like, no permission needed.

cookie9 · 02/06/2011 15:06

Oh pamsco I am sure your oh will love being a dad I think it is hard for men to see us when we aren't well. My dh loved the idea of being a dad but has hated seeing me in pain recently and all the ms I have been through. He is very happy not to be a woman! I want to reincarnate as a seahorse as the male seahorse carries the babies and gives birth....bloody fab!!
Glad you got to see the little one again missyraines and the appointment went well.

goldmaple · 02/06/2011 16:06

DH said 'no' to the doppler:( but I think I'd drive myself crazy...

snoozle I felt the baby move 4x at 16+ weeks but now at 17+2 I haven't felt bubba for 5 days now. And ms is basically gone (what I've been hoping for) so now I'm getting a little worried, of course.

pam glad you are doing better!!

Only 2 weeks until 19 wk gender scan!! Can't wait! I actually am 50/50 on whether I want to find out the sex but DH wants to know for sure so looks like we'll find out:) Is anyone on else finding out the gender or do most want a surprise?

Missyraines · 02/06/2011 18:15

We want a surprise Gold. I want DH to be the one who tells me.

You can rent dopplers you know!

OP posts:
alicat10 · 02/06/2011 18:22

We're finding out and we did for last 2 - have 1 of each so no pref just makes it seem more real to me and hopefully easier for LOs to understand (DS was too young to know what was going on with DD). Also helps with names which we always find tough

voodoomunkee · 02/06/2011 19:16

Hi guys, apologies, I just can't seem to stay focused long enough to catch up on the posts I have missed!

Welcome to Never and glad to hear you are out of hospital Pam! Sorry to anyone else that I have missed who has news.... I am now 17 weeks, have a bump that is nearly unmistakeable and starting to need maternity stuff :( hoping to stave it off until about 25 weeks but never going to happen!! I shall be buying lots of leggings and baggy tops me thinks.

Too hot. I hate the heat and the office was like a sauna today! Never good!

Also received email inviting me to the interview stage of the MA assessment! Woohoo am very pleased!

Hope everyone and their bumps and dc's are well. I promise to catch up with all the news asap! x

PamSco · 02/06/2011 19:38
