Thought I'd take the plunge and go for it.

I'm a staunch believer in equality, or at least shared burden. I get to push it out, breastfeed and look after it constantly for 1 year - the least he can do is change the nappies when he gets home!
Needless to say, my DP has been forced to forget all about having a "weak stomach" - I won't have it! It's all in their head, anyway.

Tsh. Men. ;)

Caliphora · 25/05/2011 22:35

oh, lk - when are you due? I had my 16 week appt. one week late - due 31st Oct...

(hangs head in shame at not wanting to leave November club...)

H007 · 25/05/2011 22:36

I'm another one on the reusable nappies here and again it's mainly due to the thought that I couldn't possibly throw that much stuff away if I used disposable. My mum did recommend getting both and using disposable at night for better sleeping however I bet many advances have been made in the 29 years since I was in nappies so may just see how it goes and get some Eco disposable for emergencies.

With regards to peeps still being sick my morning sickness has nearly vanished but has been swapped with evening/afternoon headaches which result in me vomiting when I'm tired. Hoping this will pass though too

alicat10 · 25/05/2011 22:45

Don't think me and DP talked about whether or not he would do nappies etc before DS was born but he has been brilliant and done at least if not more of his fair share with DS and DD - nappies, vomits, getting up in the night.

DS was taken from me into NICU when he was about 10 hours old and I was too poorly to get out of bed so DP went with him and looked after him and that cememted it really - he would happily spend any available second with the LOs even if that involved poo etc once they were smiling and giggling etc his nappy changes were a bit of an event with raspberries being blown and all sorts.

The new baby poo is so innocuous (after the meconimum that is) I can't believe anyone wouldn't be able to stomach it and it only changes gradually into something more human Wink.

I don't know any Daddies that didn't just get on with it after their hearts had been melted by their firstborn :)

goldmaple · 26/05/2011 00:11

H007 I too have swapped ms for low grade headaches. Still get sick when very tired or hungry.

ziggy Hi! pam and staceroo I am Nov 12th as well!! Except bubba has measured 5 days bigger on every scan but they don't want to move my due date.

I can't believe a lot of you have lost weight!! Got a talking to at my 16 week appt today as I had gained a little extra then necessary. Ob wasn't mean but said that we weren't looking for that kind of gain everytime. I shouldn't be surprised since I have not exercised and been eating lots of carbs for about 10 weeks now. Then I went to get a maternity swim suit (I start aquacise tommorrow) and the weight gain was pretty apparent (thighs look horrible, bump looks good). So now I have resolved to eat better and exercise more!!

Haven't had a chat with DH about nappys yet but I def expect him to do half:) will talk to him just to make sure he is on the right page

CazandBelle · 26/05/2011 07:09

Morning everyone.

I'm feeling like I'm coming down with a cold or something. Sore throat and runny nose, and I'm feeling really sick again because of it. Anyone know what cold remedies are allowed in pregnancy? Think I'll be visiting pharmacy later and Dr tomorrow if I keep feeling worse.

PamSco · 26/05/2011 07:49

Hi Caz i'm just getting over a streaming cold, still got a chesty cough which makes me throw up in the morning. It's the usual I think, just paracetamol. I've been taking some natural cough sweets just menthol and lots and lots of lemon, honey and hot water which I've got to like. Plenty of water too. Best of luck to you. Rest up.

LaraMi · 26/05/2011 08:34

Hello Ladies

Can I join? My EDD is 25th Nov. Have been lurking on this post for some time. It will be our first baby and after two previous MCs, I am quite nervous. My nuchal scan went very well and I am hoping that being a part of this thread will alleviate my nerves and help me to focus on the exciting parts of PG - like planning!

lktoday5 · 26/05/2011 08:41

welcome lara

caliphora officially nov 5th although theyve warned ill be lucky to make it out of october -

I also warned DP that he would be on poop duty if i had to get up to feed in the night ..he makes this fake vomiting sound at the thought but i know he's also all talk and will do it .....

Katiebeau · 26/05/2011 09:31

Hello everyone. Sorry for not been on for ages and I haven't had chance to catch up with the news.

Welcome Lara.

I myself can't easily do other peoples babies nappies so I was deading my first!! I think Mums and Dads are all the same, anything for their own! I couldn't stop laughing at the sight of my DH trying to hold vomit in his hands one night. He couldn't believe a hand cup leaks!!!!!!

I had a good 17 week Midwife and consultant meeting this week, saw bobblehat bopping away on the screen. We also had my nuchal results explained. I was getting paranoid that everyone had such high numbers/lower risk (LK, I haven't forgotten you and I'm sorry if you want to come over and slap me for been worried, I would!). They tried to see the sex but the cord was in the important place!!! 20 week scan in less than 3 weeks.

My bump is definately here. I haven't gained too much weight yet but I have gained a good 8/9lbs now. I started off a middle of the road BMI of 22, the same as with DD and fully expect to have a stone of blubber to loose once by the six week check. My willpower is usually good but not when I'm pregnant it seems.

For a lot of private scans done by "old" consultants who have been doing this for years they won't give you better odds than 20x your maternal background risk (which equals the numbers I got). Many NHS trusts don't apply this limit to the calculation so you can end up with odds of 1:120000 etc. Basically my results mean there wasn't a scrap of evidence at 11 weeks there was any concern but due to this limit of 20x maternal age risk it couldn't be any lower. I not sure if newer private facilities apply this limit.

Anyway I feel better understanding why mine seemed different as I happened to choose a chap who does use the limit!

Crap morning, we just started potty training (no pun intended) and I asked DD if she need the loo whilst holding her hand at the top of the stairs (she had just farted very loudly!) and she immediately shouted "No Mummy" and tried to run off. Tumbled all the way down...... she was OK, recovered in 2 minutes. I have been crying, shaking and been sick!!!!!! Still shaking 2 hrs later.

Waffle waffle waffle.....

Welcome to all new people and I am sorry if I missed any big news from anyone in the past week or so.

Caz - I think you can only use the natural honey and lemon and paracetamol from memory. Colds are much worse when you are pregnant aren't they? immune system a bit depressed anyway and no proper drugs.

Katiebeau · 26/05/2011 09:35

Ohhh some of my message "moved". It should read.....

Blush sorry I didn't see the strange rearrangement before posting....

Caliphora · 26/05/2011 12:42

Caz - don't make my mistake - PLEASE don't take Ricola cough sweets - they made me have contractions and spend a good 5 hours in A&E making sure I wasn't going into labour!

I went to the doctor and pleaded for my tonsils, cold/flu a week ago - paracetamol, lemon and ginger tea with honey (manuka honey is ok, and has proven antiseptic effect), Soothers and Lockets was all she could do for me.
Not even Olbas oil or Vicks inhalers/rub is ok!

bumpandisaacsmum · 26/05/2011 12:51

Just as an add on from cal manuka honey is great & is a really good antimicrobial/antiseptic but looses a lot of these properties if put in boiling water so a spoonful on its own is more beneficial!!

lktoday5 · 26/05/2011 16:23

katie you're looking at the queen of worriers (which only seems to have emerged since ive been pregnant - weird?! normally i am completely together ...so you worry away ...amd know we'll all be here to hold your hand (and only slap you if you REALLY need it) Wink

cookie9 · 26/05/2011 17:14

Taking it v easy today. Have ordered a Doppler from amazon so keen to try it out when it arrives, anyone else bought one? Dh got me my favourite medicine...big bar of green and blacks chocolate.
Think my bump is getting bigger. Once I am feeling better I am going to sort through my wardrobe as some things I just won't fit now.
Too sick for ms appointment but had lots of blood urine bp tests over the last week so not too worried.

alicat10 · 26/05/2011 17:46

Was going to say that isn't most of bump cos of uterus growing and shoving everything that used to live there up and out but just weighed myself and have put on a stone :( and baby is what? 6oz of that :( No more weighing for me - no great surprise as I've been eating and eating and all carbs

alicat10 · 26/05/2011 17:53

Cookie which Doppler did you go for? I have a sonoline one and use it for a daily Dopple before I go to sleep - love it! Just need to be calm and patient as can take a few mins to find HB - I'm 16+4 and have been using for just over 2 weeks with the heartbeat not far above pubic bone and slightly to 1 side every time

cookie9 · 26/05/2011 18:00

Hi Alicat I got the angel sounds one. Will just have to be patient once I get it. Next purchase will be a birthing ball!

alicat10 · 26/05/2011 18:06

Must get mine out of loft - so nice to slouch over and good for just sitting on too. I don't think I have anything I need to buy this time - have or can borrow pretty much everything. Might treat myself to a nice changing bag and like the look of those baby bean bags

mashpot · 26/05/2011 18:11

Hello,

Welcome Lara and Ziggy. I had my 16 week appointment today and all was well and got to hear the heartbeat again. I'm tempted to get a doppler too but not sure it would be good for me, I think I would be on with it all the time!

Blood pressure and urine was fine but she didn't take any blood.

Sorry to those feeling ill, look after yourselves.

sunshinehugs · 26/05/2011 18:13

Evening everyone, no you aren't being harsh Caliphora - I was planning to go down the route of 'just get on and do it!!!' but sounds from your lovely stories ladies he might come round anyway once he sees the LO. He is very excited about the whole thing and can't wait to be a daddy.

Welcome LaraMi

I'm due 29th November so looks like I'll be turning the lights out when we all leave here for the next exciting chapter over in the post-natal thread!

I haven't weighed myself for about 3 weeks and at the scan they weighed me in kg so I have no idea! Maybe I need to invest in some scales!

Cookie9 I had great fun clearing out my wardrobe, hope you are feeling up to it soon.

juststarting · 26/05/2011 18:44

Thansk Staceroo - not the most technologically advanced of souls.
And LaraMi, we share a due date! Mine was adjusted down from 28th after my scan.
Nappies - we use the nature babycare ones (which we can get at the sainsburys at the end of our street), especially after we gave up on reusables - I dont know HOW biodegradable they are in reality, but I am hoping they are better. They do cost a fair bit more, but I trust that they are better for the environment and they actually ended up seeming like the best compromise to me. Unless I was to own LOADS of cloth ones, enough to line dry winter and summer and still have some on the go! And, to be frank, I didnt fancy living in a sea of drying nappies for several years! Its a suprisingly complex issue though, the more I looked into it. Really not a very straightforward decision. But he has never had more than the fleeting early signs of nappy rash (but then, we cream that bum nearly every change). And he seemed to leak just as badly when we tried other brands. Hmm. This should go on the swanky new procuct recommendations thread really.
But my partner has probably changed nearly as many nappies as I have, and has been up in the night nearly as often - though he brings me the baby and goes back to sleep! I was quite ill for a few months after my son was born and there was a period I couldnt lift my son easily cause I had a breast abscess (and then four months of a healing wound full of packaging), so he kind of got in the habit of bringing him to me for night feeds, and when he stopped, he found he felt left out, so started again!

Staceroo · 26/05/2011 22:13

Quiet here this evening ladies!

Had a night in by myself tonight (well not completely alone of course!) been doing all my jobs, sorting out car insurance etc, and catching up on Waterloo road! It's making me cry though!

When people are feeling their bumps, can they just feel the big hard bit that goes right across the bottom, or can they sometimes feel a smaller hard but, which may possible be the baby???!!! I keep saying to my dh, feel this, feel this, but not sure what it is I'm feeling!

Caliphora · 27/05/2011 00:01

I can feel bump all up to my belly button now - hard and firm! I can defo feel where baby is "hanging out" from time to time, but mostly "from the inside", if that makes sense!

TMI WARNING Also - when we're having "business time" (you know it's business time because DP is wearing business socks...) Sprout curls up in the top left corner, like a hard little ball of "Getting as far away from the movement as possible" - it scared DP a bit the first time, I think it's hilarious...

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 27/05/2011 06:35

Morning all,

Stace, my bump is hard at the bottom, but I can't feel the baby at the moment, or I dont think I can, just the build of gas Shock!!!

Hope you all have a lovely day :)
