Will this be the final thread?!? I somehow think not, with more and more people starting on maternity leave, we have time for a good few more methinks!

Jasmine that did make me chuckle :)

8rubberduckies · 12/05/2011 21:38

Hi all, a week offline and I feel completely out of the loop! I am quite tired tonight and apologise for the lack of individual messages, but think I'll be here til 3am if I try and write a post that long! I did just want to say Sorry to nurse though for the loss of your Grandad.

Has anyone seen Barbie about?

Well, my maternity leave has started, and its bloody great! Someone back on the old thread (maybe petitech?) commented that they can't relax now they have done their chores, and I felt exactly the same last time, but seem to have settled into the slower way of life a lot quicker this time around. I have actually got shedloads to do but not the energy to do it! I went to a second-hand bookshop for the first time in years yesterday and stocked up on some books, which I'm looking forward to tucking into over the next few weeks Smile. Swimming is a good thing to do on maternity leave if you're feeling lost, as is batch cooking and freezing. Just don't spend it all Googling "Labour pain" Grin Grin.

Not sure which way up baby is now, she is moving around tonnes at the moment, and she's not all over on the right anymore, so she is maybe breech, maybe not. I am going to see the consultant on 24th May so will find out then. I wish I could work out if its her bum or head up the top bumping into my internal organs all the time!

You'll be glad to hear ds has turned a bit of a corner this week and seems a bit happier about the impending gatecrasher to his party! He is still very clingy and hitting me, but has started referring to the bump as his sister, and has started asking reallly sweet questions like "Is my sister sleepy?" or "Is my sister hurting Mummy's back?". Awwwwww. A lot happier now he doesn't seem to be exhibiting signs of wanting to murder her Grin.

Milliemuffin · 12/05/2011 22:29

8RDs that's great news about DS. I had a horrible morning this morning when DD came to me screaming and then I saw two very prominent bite marks on one of her fingers. She wouldn't give DS his toy so he bit her. It's the first time he's ever properly bitten anyone and I did lose it for a minute and really shouted and told him to go away as I didn't wanna see him :( I left things for about 5 mins whilst we all calmed down then we had a nice chat, I apologised, he apologised to DD and we had a nice day in the end but I do regret shouting so loud, I was just so shocked and it really was a hard bite :(

But, like yours, he's being lovely asking about the baby and trying to suggest names.

I'm in bed - fingers crossed I stay here til morning and don't end up downstairs at 3am again.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 13/05/2011 05:30

I was up at 5am this morning! Have already hung out some washing (put washing machine on timer last night) put a load on and done the washing up!
Just couldn't sleep due to hip pain.
And I've deleted someone off FB, old colleague of mine who never comments on my profile except to make snide remarks. Can do without that sort of shit now Angry

knackered76 · 13/05/2011 05:44

Morning Kara, also been up since about 4.15am but have not been nearly as productive as you . . in fact think I might slouch off back to bed to try and get an hour before the children wake up! Was having a constant period type pain which woke me up and kept me awake but after an hour and a half seems to have gone, hopefully :)

Merlion · 13/05/2011 05:57

Was also up at 5.15 although that was courtesy of DS! Tis now lunch time though.

Knackered ooh, let us know if it comes back.

Nurse sorry to hear about your Grandpa - glad you got to say farewell though.

knackered76 · 13/05/2011 08:25

Pains all gone, but they did decide to come back when I lay down again so no more sleep for me . . . am already proving to be a delightful mummy this morning Blush! Didn't have any of this in the last pregnancies, finally my body is giving up on me and had enough I think!

Nurse Sorry about your Grandpa. Mine died last Easter and even though it was expected it was still so, so sad to say goodbye. Hope you're coping okay and sending hugs to use as needed.

8RD Glad to hear ds seems to be adjusting a bit and giving you some respite. Hopefully now you're on maternity you can spend some lovely time with him before the new arrival.

Jasmine I LOVE that story. Is it sad that I also find things like that strangely satisfying in a karma sort of way!

Happy friday ladies :)

Went to Aberdeen for two days to give a talk and have missed so much! 2 days on the train for a one-hour talk was quite intense, but I had a nice time and was glad not to give birth up there Grin. Got back in time for my second NCT class last night, too, which was good.

crumble happy sling-buying! I ordered a wrap 3 months ago from Biz-e-kids and it never arrived. When I checked my inbox for confirmation I never had any correspondence from them, so I assumed I had made a mistake on the form or gone mad and never ordered it. Then today I got an email from them saying my item had been dispatched! In the meantime a friend has given me a sling, so it feels like a waste of money now...

merlion good tip about putting the baby in the moses basket in the cot. I didn't think of that.

jasmine Shock about the bees! We had about six bees crawl out of our gas fireplace in Feb/March and thought there must be a bee's nest somewhere, but no more thank goodness! Glad to hear you're repairing the world at the same time as getting rid of your bees Grin. And an evil Grin for your friend with her 5000 calories. Woaaaaahh there!

leroy I'm so sorry for your friend and her baby. I just looke up meconium aspiration syndrome and it says that the outlook is usually excellent - do they know if the baby suffered from oxygen starvation at any point? I really hope the baby pulls through and is bouncing around in no time.

nurse I'm so sorry about your grandpa, and for everybody who is missing people at this otherwise lovely time.

supersunny me too! Cot, wardrobe and dresser arriving between 13.16 and 14.16 according to M&P text service! Weird they tell you to the minute Grin Going to have to resist the urge to try and build stuff and actually do work instead.

Congrats to thornykate on reaching 38 weeks!

Mummynumber2 · 13/05/2011 10:14

I can't believe how close we all are to having our babies! Smile

Nurse I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandad Sad

crumble I got a moby sling from an NCT sale last week. I did a bit of googling and there are a couple of videos on youtube showing how to wear them but it does seem a bit complicated! I had a little go at putting it on but worked out that it only really works if you haven't got a massive bump in the way!

Moomin, I haven't been around for a while but it's so good to hear how well Florence is doing and how big she's getting. You're obviously doing a great job with her Smile

Leroy Thats's very sad for your friend. Hope her little one is doing better now.

My news is that I am officially classed as low risk now and am no longer under consultant lead care! So, failing an unforeseen problem I'm all set to give birth at the birthing centre! Grin The baby's engaged and was told is 'ready to go'. It's over 3 weeks till my due date but the scan showed he's going to be quite big (6.11 now!) so it wouldn't be a problem if he's a couple of weeks early. I've been having a few period type pains over the last couple of days too.......

mouffloncake · 13/05/2011 10:27

I didn't manage to keep up with the entire last thread so here's hoping for this!!

Last working day this sat. Honestly can say am ready for a rest. Bring on my feet all day has given me terrible sciatica to the point of not being able to walk or get up out of bed or off the sofa. (I have a spine literally full of metal work, so have history). Oh & the feet look like miss piggys trotters from the swelling lol.

Moonim Glad all is well. We share the same due date so hearing your news has made me pack my bag lol.

Jasmine You've certainly had a journey, lets hope for an easier time now. Loved the 500/5000 story! I've a friend who's the same with me. She delights in telling me how hard it is, even sharing the gory details about her recent stitches incident. Erm. Thanks!

RLT. I'm drinking Health & Heather rlt & like it. I sometimes sweeten it with agave syrup. I get mine from here: RLT

PerpetualProvocateur · 13/05/2011 10:53

Morning ladies, I'm another one who's not sleeping well, although I seem to be able to sleep better if I go back to sleep around the time I should be getting up. I did something rather daft this morning; I accepted the Ocado delivery pretty early and then laid back down 'just for a minute' which turned into two hours, meaning that everything sat out for just over two hours before I put it away. I'm a bit worried about the dairy products as you're not really meant to leave them out, but they were still pretty cool when I did put them away as the house is cool and the refrigerator items were all in the same bags keeping each other cool. I think the meat should be fine as it will be cooked. Anyone have any thoughts?

I'm 35 weeks today and have a pregnancy massage booked tonight, which I'm really looking forward to. I also start ML after today, but unfortunately have a few loose ends which need to be tied up, so will end up doing a bit of work next week anyways.

Sorry about your grandpa, Nurse Sad

NurseSunshine · 13/05/2011 10:54

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

Jasmine that story is hilarious! Has she no common sense?! Confused Her poor little baby will be on the road for having a heart attack aged 21, never mind what her arteries must look like!

8rubberduckies · 13/05/2011 11:13

Morning all - sorry to hear so many of you are having such bad sleeps. I tend to sleep okay until about 2am, when I wake up for my first wee, then I'm up and down and tossing and turning for the rest of the time with hip pain.

Perpetual I think your food will be fine, as long as it has not been sat in the sun cooking away. Mind you, I am very much in the sniff and poke brigade when it comes to judging if food is edible or not.

Knackered I wish I could spend some quality time with ds now, but my SPD/ PGP is so bad I can't do anything fun with him and can't look after him properly. He is at the childminders still for 3 days, and my Mum is helping out the other two days. I feel so guilty dropping him off every day then going home on my own, but I can hardly walk after just a few hours looking after him on my own. DP has to work tomorrow, so I have had to ask a couple of my friends to come over and help me do some stuff with him... I feel like a useless Mummy!

jasmine51 · 13/05/2011 11:38

How to freak out your DH (or is it just mine?Grin) - next time you go out in the car, put a small bag in there containing towel, spare knickers and some pads...just in case waters go whilst out. Reaction was spectacular this morning!

CitizenOscar · 13/05/2011 12:08

Just wanted to say woooooooooooooooooooooooooo! It's my first day of maternity leave so might have some hope of contributing to this thread a bit more. Grin

Got a to do list as long as my arm, but have to remind myself I don't have to do it all today... Having said that, I had a nice long lie-in so I'd better get on with some sorting out before I sit down for a proper internet session!

petitech · 13/05/2011 13:04

8rubberduckies am just starting to get into the hang of this maternity leave lark... was contemplating a swim but after replanting a couple of hanging baskets this morning am all done in and fancy an afternoon of film watching!

Am also feeling v emotional, hehe, a girl off my ante-natal class text me yesterday to say her baby arrived, cue blub blub, everytime someone is nice to me (could even be random stranger in shop) I want to cry.

Baby washing almost done apart from a batch of whites at Grandma's house (hurry up Grandma!) Bag semi packed & think most things purchased. Next week have a hair cut and spa day planned, v indulgent but I figure it might be a while!

Ditto everyone on struggling to sleep, heavy bump, pains in my bum cheeks ?! and chronic acid reflux.

Go Knackered76 on fbook culling, has to be done. A friend of mine has ignored my pregnancy the whole time (she did same with my wedding) and yesterday, obviously rediscovered my email address and sent long email announcing her pregnancy and I guess expecting me to gush and ask lots of questions.... the nerve!

Thanks all for encouragement re Bumps & Babies, was really plsd I went, met some nice people and got some good ideas on classes. Have tentatively signed up to Baby Sensory and put my name down on a waiting list for a local mums & babies group. All starting to seem real!

A friend of mine keeps panicking me by being super organized, I keep pointing out that at 37 weeks I could potentially still have up to 5 weeks to go...not many people go early do they (famous last words!)

Grin jasmine :)

Me too petitech - feel very emotional around DH as he seems like Mr Perfect at the moment and I feel very lucky. He, on the other hand, must think I'm weird Hmm Grin

My moby sling just arrived. Bit annoyed with the company I ordered it from as I ordered it 3 months ago and never heard anything from them. When I got the delivery notice yesterday I emailed them and said I had bought one in the meantime and was surprised as I had no record of having had any receipt from them, and it had been a long time. They sent me quite a stern email in response saying they had no way of knowing I'd bought something else, that they'd sent me an automatic receipt on the 8th April and it must have been spammed, and I would have to return it if I didn't want it anymore. It is definitely possible that the receipt was spammed as the filters on my account are a bit rubbish - but I definitely ordered it long before 8th April! It was in February! And even if I did order it on 8th April 5 weeks is still a long time to wait. Really pleased to have the sling but won't be using the company again.

Moan over Grin. Told you I was emotional!

motherofsnortpigs · 13/05/2011 14:09

ttl my DH is a complete star too. He had a job interview this morning and at some point between coming home from taking DD1 to school and wanting to go and catch a train he misplaced his glasses. He had to go in his weekend pair which I think are very sexy in a Clark Kent kind of way, but he WAS NOT happy. He's just phoned from M&S in Reading and bought all the school uniform for September - DD2 is starting part time, so that will just leave me with 2 pairs of shoes to get in the last week of August. No inkling of how the interview went, though...

jasmine I've been driving round with my hospital bag in the car.

Very pleased to have reached 36+3 here. Homebirth, here I come!!

Probably ought to sleep while DS is asleep, but I mustn't forget to do the school run...

Joannezipan · 13/05/2011 14:20

petitech Oh thank goodness...I thought I was the only one getting wierd bum cheek pains! Although oddly only in my right bum cheek? Confused

I am 35+1 now...I can't belive it's getting so late! This week has been much better at work. Having wednesday off really worked at breaking up the week.

Jas I had a little giglle at you freaking out DH. better do some work

Moog72 · 13/05/2011 14:22

I'm having the same problems wiht not sleeping. I can get to sleep at night and then wake up for whatever reason and just can't get back to sleep again. Keep looking at DH and feeling jealous and annoyed that he is fast asleep when I am not!

Re. RLT tablets I am taking 3 x 500g per day and am 35+3.

This working day is going so slowly - I have been on Mumsnet for hours now and am even tiring of that! CVould try doing some actual work I guess... only 10 more working days to go :)

Milliemuffin · 13/05/2011 14:48

I saw 12:30, 1:30, 2:45, 5:30, 6:00 then DP came down with DD at 6:45 and I fell asleep and woke up at 7:30! DS was also still sound asleep so mad panic to get ready for school.

I've still got a sore uncomfortableness across the bottom of my bump, particularly on the sides of the bottom which makes walking uncomfortable but it's not SPD as it's more just a sore bump than anything pelvic related.

I'm 33+1 today but I'm still hopeful this one will be early like it's siblings so I'm thinking hopefully only 5 weeks to go. I've got tickets to see Peter Kay at The O2 on 7th June when I'll be nearly 37 weeks - hope I don't laugh too hard!

I'm just going to pack a separate small bag with a few bits for if I have to go into hospital and the DCs need to visit so I'm packing their favourite snacks and need to get a little present for them both from the baby, just not sure what! DD was born 12 days before christmas so we got DS a huge ELC Garage and said it was from DD then just got him loads of little bits for christmas. I'm putting all the bags in the nursery as DD and DS are now sharing so when the time comes DP just needs to grab everything thats along the side and if we do get the home birth we're hoping for there's a big clear box with all the necessaries in. I did the same with DD and it was great knowing everything was there and ready to go and there was no worry about DP forgetting something! Must get on... xx

petitech · 13/05/2011 15:30

...and the award for 'super-organized' goes to......Milliemuffin, v impressed! Must be something you get better at once you're a mum for the first time!? Here's hoping...

nomoreheels · 13/05/2011 15:36

Hi all, am posting for some thoughts/advice after worrying midwife appointment just now. As I mentioned I've not felt amazing this week - developed flu like symptoms yesterday as well & generally feeling tired & run down.

My urine showed higher levels of protein & my blood pressure was a bit high again, so the midwife took bloods & has sent them off for immediate testing with a view to diagnosing pre eclampsia. They're going to call me tomorrow & if the results aren't good I will need to go back to hospital for further testing.

Trying hard to stay calm until I know more tomorrow, but not easy when I'm so tired & poorly. I always knew I should expect the possibility of a section (worst case scenario if I am diagnosed) but now it feels too sudden & scary! I'm 37 wks today.

I don't know what I'm lpoking for really, just perspective I guess - I feel a bit alone & worried. I have DP at home & he is trying to be strong but it's all new to him too, so he can only offer cuddles & tea for now! :(

Thornykate · 13/05/2011 15:49

nmh wish I had some great advice for you but I think you are doing the right thing already by just staying put & resting. I hope the results come back fine tomorrow for you. The nurse in me says the fact that they are happy for you to be at home for now can only be a good thing although I appreciate that is small consolation for you right now xx take care & sending some positive vibes & hugs your way

Has anyone heard from mumofprawn recently?

Will post more later but am getting pressured to get off the laptop by kids, we are down to 1 laptop between all of us now.
