Sorry things are tought for you guys, Cheshire, Wings, and Cassnstar.Big hugs to you all, and keep using MN as your offload system: it works!! xx

rebelwithoutababy · 04/05/2011 12:51

Cheshire: have a look at ASOS: they have loads of nice things and not too expensive.Plus really easy to send back(for free) if they don't look right. got an email from them today saying there is free next day delivery if you order today..Also, there is a sale on at Mamas and Papas on the website at moment.
Biblio , Hobnobs is right re: "fit to work" certs (am a Dr myself), but also suggest you speak to HR asap so they can do a "risk assessment* for you:they will prob say no lifting and handling/night shifts etc without need for sick note..
Scones,I will eat the lemon and poppyseed cake for you if you like?
Wings: hope someone helps out at uni:have you got a good revision course/text for finals? Remember horrors of med finals like yesterday: are you pre-clinical?

PenguinArmy · 04/05/2011 15:42

It's not quite the same thing, but I had to write my PhD thesis when pg last time. It was the first time that I wrote a daily plan and actually stuck to it (even when I had exams before). I spent nearly a week working out what needed doing and then wrote a 4 month plan. Sounds a bit bonkers now but it helped me to get it all in my head and make it sound achievable by lots of small tasks

CheshireDing · 04/05/2011 17:37

Thank you for your concern Rebel. Thankfully after everyone else said Mothercare was crap too I am now over the "lack of clothes issue" and going shopping this week :) :) Am going to add ASOS to the list too now thanks.

Isn't it mad how we all seem to be such different sizes whilst still having babies in the same month! I am usually somewhere between an 8-10 but now cannot get a regular size 12 to meet in the middle, eck! Although I am looking on the bright side that it's only my tum that has increased and not my face, ass, arms etc. Thank God.

I do wonder if I might need a tummy tuck afterwards though?

bilblio · 04/05/2011 20:38

Thanks all for the advice on "Fit to work" notes. Especially Rebel. I hoped this was the case. I really didn't want to have to go off both jobs.
I don't want to be off either, but I do want to stay healthy.

Rebel they've done a risk assessment, but it was very hard for me to answer some things as it was my first shift at that house in 4 years and the clients have changed so much in that time. I answered what I hoped I would be able to manage, I'm a hard worker, but I underestimated just how difficult it would be.

To top it all today I've started getting a lot of lower back pain too, I do have recurring problems anyway (too many years in care work) but I've been fine for a couple of years. I'm guessing a combination of loosening ligaments, sleeping badly and stress have triggered it all.
I'm grateful that in my main job I sit with all the Physio's so they've been showing me some good stretches. If it's not better by Monday I'll get them to give me some more exercises.

happymummytobe · 05/05/2011 10:13

Hello All Smile
Haven't posted for a while and have just caught up on everyone's news.
I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and weighed myself this morning - I have put on a stone! I think I may have to stop eating cake...
Midwife appointment yesterday which I was so looking forward to because I thought she'd listen to the baby's heartbeat - but she didn't just in case it was too early to detect and this might "worry me." But now I have to wait 5 more weeks til my next scan which seems forever! sigh
I think I can feel the baby moving about - little flutters. Anyone else feeling them at 16/17 weeks? I'm looking forward to feeling proper movement soon Grin
Is anyone else feeling a bit disconnected to their baby? It's not that I don't already love him (we think he's a boy) but it just seems strange to have no communication with him. Hmm, that might sound a bit bonkers, but it's the best way I can put it really! I want to see him and hear the heartbeat and know he's ok. Maybe I'm just a natural worrier Blush
Hope you're all having a good morning - can't believe how far this bus has travelled already!
xxx

apples82 · 05/05/2011 10:45

Hi happymummytobe,

Strange that your midwife wouldn't even see about the heartbeat, even with the proviso that she might not be able to get it.

I had my 16 week app yesterday with mw (16+2) and she found heartbeat in about fifteen seconds of trying.

I too have felt the flutters, getting more noticeable each day. I first felt them at 14+6.

rebelwithoutababy · 05/05/2011 11:10

Hi Happy. I am 17+5 and have put on 11lb: most of it went on in the first 12 weeks (when you're only supposed to gain about 4lb) because cheese and carbs were the only things that stopped me feeling sick! I'm trying to eat healthily now, and go back to the gym a bit more, but I think I will just have to accept that I am going to be porky!
Totally agree with feeling a bit "disconnected" from baby: I really want to be a mum and know I will love him/her straight away, but because I can't feel anything yet, it seems a bit strange...when I saw baby on the 12 week scan moving and wriggling it felt even wierder as I couldn't feel anything, but it was inside me!! My friends who have had babies said this isn't unusual..
x

happymummytobe · 05/05/2011 12:35

Thanks rebel. It's good to know I'm not alone in feeling disconnected.
I'm munching dried apricots today and thinking about making loads of roasted veggies for supper (although I really want a jacket potato with lots of cheese and butter).
apples that's wonderful that you heard the heartbeat - seems much more sensible to try to find it than not bother. My midwife measured my tummy - poking her finger into my tummy button as she did which was HORRIBLE - I absolutely hate having my tummy button touched! shudder

Hmm, what to have for lunch...

Bubalie · 05/05/2011 13:11

Hi everyone, I too haven't been on for a while, this nausea and tiredness is killing me. I have been reading most of the post and catching up with everyone's news!

I am 17+6 today and have felt baby move :) - it started around 15 weeks for me but I was unsure whether the flutters were my baby moving or just the stomach activity!! Now the 'kicks' are getting more noticeable, and yesterday I had a piece of chocolate cake in the afternoon and the baby was kicking properly!! So reassuring. Happy I've got myself one of the dopplers from Amazon - it was only about £20 I think it's the Angelsound one, maybe that would be a good idea to get so you can listen to baby's heartbeat in your own time and take time to find it. I got it a couple of weeks ago and have only used it twice, found a heartbeat straight away the first time and then tried yesterday again and took me a while to get it, so I suppose that's why some of the mw don't do it at 16 weeks appointment.

Hope everyone else is ok!

BuffyFairy · 05/05/2011 17:55

Hi,

Sorry I haven't posted in ages. Things are crazy busy at the moment. I'm sitting topcima in 3 weeks, the last exam before I'm fully qualified. It's hard work trying to study on top of a demanding full time job and I don't have any energy in the evenings these days.

Thanks to mpops, BB3, vhappymumma2b, Liabella, bilblio, happymummytobe, arabella36 and rebel for the lovely messages when my Grandad died. There were lots of people at the funeral which was ncie to see.

Congrats on the wedding Liabella. It sounded like a gorgeous day!

I'm 18+6 now and finally have a bump. Still fitting into my normal clothes but did buy a nice dress in the Seraphine sale and am on the look out for some maternity jeans as I don't think my normal ones will fit much longer. Any recommendations. I'm pear shaped so need something that's generous around the thighs!

happymummytobe - my midwife didn't check for the heartbeat at my 16wk appointment either which I was really disappointed about esp as they said they would at the booking in appt. My GP said it was normal not to check as it can cause more worry if they can't find it?!?

Next scan is on the 24th, can't wait! Oh, my EDD is now 30th Sept but I like this bus so much I want to stay.

CheshireDing · 05/05/2011 18:23

Aww I reckon you can stay Buffy, do babies ever turn up on their EDD anyway?

I don't understand either Happy we have heard our beans heartbeat on 3 separate occasions now and the first was at 12 weeks - seems mean of the mw to me, although obviously I guess they know what they're doing :) Maybe you should just moan lots next time and say you really want to hear it.

CheshireDing · 05/05/2011 20:37

Hope nobody minds me asking this because it is a bit gross but anyway?

This last week I had felt like I am going to wee (when I am at work/tonight at gym etc) my pants.

I have never had a bladder "issue" before and do not want to end up being one of those old lady panty wearing women off the TV.

Is this just a pg thing and I need to start pelvic floor exercises? Also to the ladies who already have 1 baby will I always feel like I am going to wee my pants after the birth?

Jojoba1986 · 05/05/2011 22:19

Hi all...

Is anyone else struggling to eat? I only used to eat one proper meal a day before I got pg but now I do try to eat at least one other meal but I just don't fancy anything! I'm 17 weeks today & have only put on a few pounds & I didn't have breakfast or lunch today & I only managed to eat a few mouthfuls of my dinner before I started feeling sick! I'm really hoping this is just a phase & I'll get the 'normal' pregnancy appetite soon! =S
I'm pretty sure I've just started feeling movement today so that's exciting but it's kinda renewed my initial obsessiveness about eating right & doing everything properly but I hardly feel hungry & when I do I can't think of anything that won't make me feel ill! It's especially weird since I only got a tiny bit of nausea in the first trimester!
I'm getting more than a little fed up with my husband's disapproving/disappointed looks when I tell him how little I've eaten during the day! =(

bilblio · 05/05/2011 22:56

CheshireDing - Yes I get this sometimes, I go from being fine to absolutely desperately needing the loo. It doesn't help that some days I get quite a heavy discharge too.
I think I read as the baby gets bigger and your uterus goes above the pelvic bone that it should ease... for a while anyway, just wait until LO starts using your bladder as a punchbag/football Hmm

And no it doesn't continue (often). The first few weeks after the birth all my muscles down below felt like jelly and I thought they'd never recover, but they did. You should get given information about exercises to do after the birth, in fact I think in the book I got from the GP at my booking in appointment there were exercises.

You should do pelvic floor exercises now though too. Again have a look through the info you've been given, you'll probably find some examples of what to do.

lovemybabyboy · 05/05/2011 23:55

I had my 16 week appointment today (Im 15+5) and midwife did not listen to heart beat! I was so dissapointed! I was really hoping for some reassurance, even though baby was fine at 12 week scan i cannot relax this pregnancy because of my mmc last august!
Anyway I really glad that i have ordered an angel sounds doppler on the internet it will be a week tomorrow since i ordered it so hopefully it will arrive very soon!

CheshireDing my DS was born on his EDD Grin!!!

SconesForTea · 06/05/2011 09:31

Cheshire I got that sudden desperate needing to wee last time and am just getting it this time too. It didn't last all pg as I recall but just until uterus moved out of pelvis. It is really strange, I can go to the loo before leaving the house but then 5 minutes down the road I think I'm going to have to duck into someone's front garden I'm so desperate Blush

The wierdest thing was at the very end of pg when I would go without realising it Blush Blush Blush I wasn't very good at doing my pelvic floors and am not being good again I must set myself a reminder.

Jojo have you spoken to your MW or GP about not being able to eat?

Very Envy of those feeling flutters. I felt at 16w last time so hoping soon. I still don't really 'believe' I'm pg even though I look stupidly, rediculously pg.

Continuum · 06/05/2011 19:36

lovemybabyboy I know how you feel! Though mine wasn't a mmc I had a mc in Nov and even now at 17 weeks I worry. I just remember with my first that I was pregnant, and I would end up with a baby at the end of it, full stop. I thought the worry would go after 12 weeks but it just hasn't.

I wish I was feeling flutters too, would at least be reassuring.

Confused2011 · 06/05/2011 20:05

Jojo I feel the same as you, but forcing myself to eat. No nausea, but I feel I'm about to vomit when I even think of most foods and yesterday I even started actually retching during breakfast when I tried to force feed myself peas with my egg! Still you have to eat for the sake of the baby, so I just eat anything not totally unhealthy that I can face eating that day. Milk (and hot chocolate) is usually ok for me, so I drink lots - 34 g protein in 1L - and sometimes soups, which have loads of fibre and vitamins. Also, smothering chicken and fish in mayonnaise (supermarket variety and kept refrigerated of course, NOT homemade mayonnaise made with unpasteurised eggs, so I'm sure it's safe in pregnancy - see www.ugacfs.org/hottopics/mayonnaise.html) seems to take away the taste. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Love and Continuum, so sorry to hear about previous MCs. I'm sure lots of us on this thread have also been through similar things too. Makes everything more stressful this time.

CheshireDing · 06/05/2011 20:59

Thank you ladies on the wee issue. Glad it is not just me who feels like a 2 year old who "should have gone before she left the house" (even though I have) Grin
Jojo have you tried really plain, boring stuff? I could only stomach Weetabix and really plain cereals even for lunch and dinner for months - with the exclusion of some Haribo :)

Kat311011 · 07/05/2011 13:19

Hi everyone

I'm new to MN and due to have my first baby on 31.10.11.
I have the feelings of nausea from when I get up in the morning to whe I go to bed, would love to be eating whatever want like some of my friends but not really an option as comes back up. Anyone else suffering from this and any tips to improve it :)
Currently in bed with a stinking cold, would kill for a hot toddy!

FluffyDonkey · 07/05/2011 13:33

Hello
Haven't read the whole thread but thought I'd point you towards the Count the Kicks thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1194471-Reducing-Stillbirth-Count-the-Kicks-Campaign?msgid=25228304#25228304

Sorry if it's already been mentionned but I think it's worth bumping!

CheshireDing · 07/05/2011 17:08

Ladies am very excited because i Bought 18 pieces of clothing in New Look today! Granted I didn't need the jacket and it was a shame the shoes were not the right size but everything else was maternity.

Ran out of time to go to Gap :(

kat I feel for you but have no suggestions unfortunately for actual throwing up, congratulations on the baby though.

PenguinArmy · 07/05/2011 17:34

kat if you're still having MS/nausea then you can go to the doc and ask for some meds. I think other people on this thread have discussed it and what ones they were prescribed.

I'm just holding in my clothes, but have to strategically select the right ones. I have a free weekend next week, so am hoping to buy some summer road trip stuff then.

Felt bump (who is named Nigel) move around last night. Every time up to now I've not been sure and it's happened when I've been lying on my front, but last night I was sitting up. Am 17 weeks today.

Does anyone else's bump apparently double in size from the morning to evening? (admits some hyperbole may have been used)

Feeding DD seems to have ramped up in pain this week :(

Kat311011 · 07/05/2011 17:55

Thanks for the advise :) will bare it in mind.
My bump feels like it doubles in size by the evening as well, probably the carbs I am eating during the day as one or the few things that settle ok on my stomach.
