Hi all, have you had a chance to check out the ONS baby names stats for 2010? V interesting reading: there is a thread on it (of course!) under "Discussions of the Day" to your right...might have to rethink our LOs name as it is vv popular....!

CheshireDing · 28/07/2011 18:37

Just checked the name stats and our chosen boys name has gone in to the top 10 :(

I could not see our girls name on there though but on a previous stat I had seen I am sure it was about number 15.

Gutted as I thought our choices were a bit unusual.

Need to persuade DH to go with Farquar and Pebble or something!

bilblio · 28/07/2011 20:51

Not Pebbles, don't do it! I do actually know one.
I'm amazed at the amount of names on there I can't even say

Makes very interesting reading. I've commented on there because DD's name is twice as popular now as it was when we picked it for her.
There were 4 of them in 2007, and 8 in 2010!!! :o
There is another spelling of it which I thought would be much more popular (it's the alternative name of Sleeping Beauty) but the single and hyphenated version are both less popular.

The girls name we've possibly settled on is just outside the top 100, as is the boys name I like. DH still hates it 4 years down the line, so technically we don't have a boys name... time to start scouring the list for something.

I'm off camping tomorrow. Wish me luck, I've never camped pregnant before. I have a very very comfy mattress thankfully!

CheshireDing · 28/07/2011 21:51

Has anyone been watching One Born USA?

Don't!

This does not fit in with my Hypnobirthing, eck!

Enjoy the camping Bilb

whackamole · 28/07/2011 22:44

Hi BB3 sorry for the delay in replying forgot I had posted here Blush

I wouldn't be so sure about how big you are - I keep looking down and thinking how neat my bump is, but people seem very surprised when I say I have 3 months to go!

My birth with the twins was fab - I was induced at 36 weeks due to pre-eclampsia, had an epidural but gave birth naturally with just OH and the midwife present. Boys were 4lb 7.5 and 5lb 10 (they are identical but we had mild TTTS early on) and needed no special care. Cannot fault the care I had, specialist multiple clinic at Liverpool Women's Hospital.

My boys are 2.6 now, and I am missing the baby period - god they are hard work at the moment. I am feeling 100 times better at this point with this pregnancy than I was with the boys (if that makes sense!) and am sooooooo glad I was not this pregnant during the summer with 2! You must just be lying on a chaise all day having someone fan you Wink you should be anyway!

PenguinArmy · 28/07/2011 23:36

bilbio we did a few days camping, it was fine. Although the place where it was 100F we checked into a motel after the first night as it was too hot to lounge around during the day for DD's nap.

Had glucose test this morning, was supposed to see OB but he got caught in a delivery. Hoping results come through in time for me to have anti-D before we leave on Monday, otherwise I guess I need to see a random MW at my parents place and get a check up done there. That should be interesting Hmm

Now weigh 136lbs and only put on 3lbs in the last month, so that takes me to 19lbs total which I think is alright.

BB3 · 29/07/2011 06:46

whackamole I'm under no illusion about my size - I'm HUGE!!! 49 inches round and growing!!! The last week has seen me just literally expand so much so one of the girls at work said 'oh before it was just out front but now i can tell from the back too!!' gee thanks!!! and god am I uncomfortable especially in the heat i just want to sit in a vat of ice!!! So I may have been neat but I'm not anymore!!

Oh birth sounds great - I'm desperate for vb but it just gets more and more unlikely the closer I get! I'm almost 30 weeks - I'm aiming to get to September then I'd like them out please!!!! Pretty please with a cherry on top! Grin

BB3 · 29/07/2011 06:56

penguin have fun, fingers crossed you get everything back and sorted before you leave xx

BB3 · 29/07/2011 07:00

Sorry keep thinking of things to post! I LOVE one born every minute USA! Not how i would want birth at all but so funny!!!

happymummytobe · 29/07/2011 13:02

Hello everyone Smile

My ankles swelled up for the first time yesterday evening. Actually, my ankle if I'm going to be completely accurate - my left one. Strange!

Feeling enormous today. And very tired. And have NO idea what to call our baby boy! For all those on this bus who are already Mummys - how on earth did you decide?! I have a favourite, but DH doesn't love it as much as I do. sigh

Generally feeling really positive and excited about everything though. Can't believe our babies will all start to appear over the next couple of months! I'm 29 weeks today Grin

CheshireDing · 29/07/2011 20:09

happy it's such a responsibility to think of names isn't in, I thought we had been a bit original and the names we had chosen would not be so common alas we are clearly very stereotypical of our generation it would seem!

Bilb what does Pebble look like? I am imagining someone ver bohemian :)

Can anyone tell me whether our nursery HAS to be primarily colours, DH thinks it does to stimulate Porgey, I think I want to stick with the current White Walls and accessorise with soft browns and treys etc, the theme we have picked so far is Lolipop Lane Herbs Garden and that has some primarily colours because I thought bedrooms were supposed to be calming places. I keep trying to tell him I don't want to be in the room I the middle of the night in winter staring at a bright picture or something!

PenguinArmy · 29/07/2011 22:39

happy wait until the baby has just been born then he was soo emotional he went along with it Grin

babies can't see pastel colours for a while and stimulation isn't what you want from a bedroom. That can come with mobiles and toys later.

SchrodingersMew · 30/07/2011 11:18

I'm back. :)

Looks like I will no longer be having an October baby! :(

Being booked in for an elective csx because they don't recommend I birth naturally or go the full 40 weeks.

I am actually shitting it, please someone hold my hand?

CheshireDing · 30/07/2011 14:36

schrodinger are you having a September baby then, or sooner than that?

I would be pooping my pants too but I think you need to look at it that at least then you can be calmly taken in to theatre rather than some kind of emergency c why you d not have time to get your head round it because you are being wheeled off and time is of the essence. They obviously think that is what's best.

Thinking of you and holding your hand from Cheshire x :)

penguin thank you for your points, plus the comment about the toys is what I think swung it my way!

SchrodingersMew · 30/07/2011 14:56

Cheshire He will now be a September baby. I was all excited too as October is my favourite month.

I have a thread in AIBU about it and so very thankful people are holding my hand!

Thank you. :) I'm shitting it!! x

SchrodingersMew · 30/07/2011 14:56

Bilb I tried to add you on google + but couldn't find you.

CrazyAlien06 · 30/07/2011 18:26

hey- sorry for late reply! I am feeling good thanks, I don't know what I am having and its my first little bundle of joy :D

i am now going to read through all the previous posts and catch up then be back :)
Hope you are all well
x

LittlePebble · 31/07/2011 17:24

Schrodingerhope all goes ok. X

cheekydino · 01/08/2011 09:13

Schrodinger - sorry to hear you news Sad. I will hold your hand as I will be in the same situation - having ELCS in sept. Admittedly I have chosen to (due to previous birth trauma) but I still feel like I have failed in some way. I'm trying to focus on the positives, but i will be terrified. Still, I reckon in a few months our gorgeous babies will make us forget all about the birth and whether it was what we wanted or not. Hopefully. Smile

happymummytobe · 01/08/2011 10:32

schrodinger also holding your hand! I read your AIBU thread. Totally understand your disappointment but it's exciting that your baby will be with you very soon!

I'm terrified about birth generally and actually asked my midwife about whether I could have an ELCS (she said no) just so I knew if it was an option. My preferred option of finding him under a gooseberry bush is apparently also not available Wink

People have started asking me what my birth plan is and I haven't got a clue. Starting NCT classes this week, so that might help me?

SchrodingersMew · 01/08/2011 10:46

Hi, thanks to everyone holding my hand! It is very much needed at this point in time!

Cheeky Try not to feel like that, you haven't failed and we can both concentrate on the positives together. :) How many weeks will you be?

HappyMummy I'm sorry you can't have your ELCS and you're so terrified. :( I feel exactly the same just vice versa. I think taking classes will help you. :) I didn't see any point in taking them now. :(

rebelwithoutababy · 01/08/2011 11:43

Hi all,
Sorry to hear about change of plan Schrodinger, but agree at least you have some time to get your head around it, and def better than panicky nightmare unplanned emergency procedure. Plus, you get to meet your LO even sooner! Wishing you all the luck in the world it goes smoothly...am sure you will do great.
Cheeky: you should def not think you have "failed" in any way at all: I don't believe there is any "right" way to do this...just what works for you and your child.
Since we're starting to discuss birthplans etc, I have just booked myself in for a hypnobirthing course, so thanks for good feedback from those of you doing it too: will let you know how I get on! I had also been thinking about water birth, and today there is a great thread on this on MN: see box at top right side of page...it has made me even more keen. I am trying to keep my plan flexible, but would like to try birthing pool in the Birthing Centre, with hypnobirthing. Anyone else have similar plans?
Might not be able to anyway, as I have a low-lying placenta, and need to wait for scan in 6 weeks to see if it's moved, otherwise it's CS for me too!
xx

happymummytobe · 01/08/2011 13:01

Hi all,
Have just had a chat with a midwife at my hospital. It seems I have 2 options:

  1. labour ward where there are lovely epidurals and doctors but after the birth I would have to go to the post-natal ward (which even the midwife sounded apologetic about) where there are 4 women to a room, very few midwives etc.
  2. the midwife led birthing unit where there is just G&A and something else, no doctors or epidurals but much better after care and I can go home after 6 hours (all being well). Having read some alarming threads on Mumsnet, I'm more freaked out about the post-natal ward than anything. After labour, I can't imagine sharing a room with 3 other women and babies and getting any rest. Actually feeling quite panicky about it. Can anyone offer any words of wisdom?! Really don't care how my baby is born so long as he and I are both safe. Anyone else due to have their baby at UCH? Sorry for the anxieties - just all seeming very real now. Think I'll go out and buy something soothing later - like a brownie and cot blanket or something ;-) xx
