aw penguin its nice int it :) i got on the bus yesterday with a massive box (baby bath), changing mat and about 5 bags full of baby clothes and got the lovely nana looks then when other ppl came on they just looked at me like Hmm is she pregnant? is that for someone else? she is fat.. i look fat sitting down but when im standing jeez im obviously showing Grin tho i got a compliment from a friend of OHs today she said ''wow you've not got much bigger have you?'' i havent seen her for a month so that felt pretty good just hoping she wasnt being sarky Blush..

bilblio · 22/06/2011 21:52

I did my first shopping for the baby today... 16 packets of wet wipes. :o
Not exactly the cutest items, but very practical.
We used cotton wool and water with DD at first, only started using wet wipes when we were out and about, but quickly realised that either she or I was allergic to almost every brand. Simple ones were the only brand which didn't make either of us sore, and they were on offer so I'm stocking up.

We don't really need to buy much though.... so long as it's a girl.
About all we need is some new newborn sized babygrows, because I stupidly cut the feet off all DD's so they'd fit her for longer... I didn't think the try on the 0-3 month because they'd been huge on her 2 weeks earlier!
Stupid post-natal hormones, feel free to learn from my mistakes ladies. :o

I have been buying lots of clothes for me from ebay though. By next week I should have a new wardrobe which actually fits! (I hope) I've got a pair of jeans, 3 skirts, some shorts, and a couple of tops, for about £40 including postage.
The other bonus from browsing ebay so much is I now know of more shops which sell maternity clothes. I seem to be liking lots of Debenhams, H&M and New Look items so I'm going to look there, but the Next stuff all looks too flouncy.

Great news MrsHende and MrHende, glad he's found a job he'll enjoy.

And I agree with Penguin, sassy you're twins look incredibly cute. I'd love twins.... from a distance. I have a few friends with twins and one with triplets. I have HUGE admiration for them.

BB3 · 23/06/2011 10:28

Sassy I know I should do it before but for some reason I am just so nervous about it! I woke up this morning exhausted after three days on the trot working in London so I know I wont be doing too much for much longer.I will see how I feel after my 28 week scan and maybe buy some bits but hide them at my sisters. Am 25 weeks and seem to have grown again today so I'm not far off your picture size! A colleague said out loud in the office yesterday 'I think I was about your size the day before I dropped and you still have 3 months to go' which I know she was joking about but really annoyed me as it was so very public!

And oh my lord, they are just adorable! They look so cute and just amazingly content all cuddled up together! I just actually welled up at my desk looking at them. I am petrified about coping with the twins and also petrified of something bad happening but seeing pictures like that and the various poems and videos my friends have sent, do make me look forward to it more!

Cheshire I watched Baby Hospital too, this is the second week and so far I have been crying within the first 15 minutes of every one. Although not tears I did have a fit of rage at that horrendous mother who left her sick son alone for over 2 weeks without a single visit and then watched her justify it by saying she has a bond with her other kids but not the baby and she knows he is being looked after there and she can't afford to visit because she lives on benefits blah blah blah, honestly some people do not deserve to have children and yet that poor mother who didn't leave her son's side had to say goodbye to him after just 5 days of life. Gosh I really am teary today!! It is on every week and I can't bring myself to not watch it.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 23/06/2011 12:02

can i ask what day/time/channel this baby hospital programme is on (glutton for punishment)

how are we all today?

BB3 regarding the nursery situation kiddicare sel a "spacesaver"(i've ordered this one) cot which is much smaller than triditional cot but would prob still last till about 18mths if you need 2 cots in a small space. Ikea also do v. small cots.

anyone else now counting the weeks to finishing work in their heads, i find myself every monday morning going only 15/14/13 weeks left etc. i really cant wait, had a week off on holiday there and was great to spend some proper time with DS

happymummytobe · 23/06/2011 12:12

edward I'm googling your cot suggestions straight away. Our second bedroom is 9 ft by 5.10 ft and has my stepdaughter's cotbed in it already. We spent a while last night working out how on earth we could fit a stokke sleepi into the room and although it's possible, they'll be about 4 inches between the cot and the cot bed! Our baby will be in our room for the first few months, but I just think that we might have to re-think and get the smallest cot imaginable for now Sad We really need to move asap but that's trickier said than done!
Other than cots, I've bought a few things already because it helps me to feel like I'm getting prepared (and stops me having anxiety dreams that the baby arrives and nothing is ready Smile
One of my best friends has just gone into labour and I'm finding it VERY hard to concentrate at work!

sassy ADORABLE pictures of your babies! Wow!

happymummytobe · 23/06/2011 12:29

Gosh, and this spacesacer cot is very reasonable! Loving the sales! Thanks edward! xx

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 23/06/2011 12:33

no probs Grin
i "pre ordered" mine as it wasn't meant to be delivered till the following week, and they delivered it the next day and give you a 1 hr slot, its the best service i think i've ever had. Grin

happymummytobe · 23/06/2011 12:37

Wow! I'd like to order today to make sure we get the special sale price. Did you get the wooden one or a white one? This cot would be almost 10% of the price of the stokke sleepi which is pretty amazing Wink

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 23/06/2011 15:58

i got the white with pink bedding package think it was £105? for cot mattress and quilt set. its flat packed pretty small so its stored in our cupboard right now, till baby's room is cleared.

and managed to get and "almost" unused moses basket off gumtree for free :-0 so even if i don't like it/it looks shabby i haven't wasted any money Grin

can't believe how much money i wasted on DS as a baby!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 23/06/2011 16:31

an not and Blush

SconesForTea · 24/06/2011 09:00

sassy what adorable twins How old are they now?

I saw a friend I hadn't seen for a couple of months, she said "how far along are you again, 7 months?" Hmm I'm not quite sassy standard but I am pretty ginormous for 5 months. I'm saying 6 now when anyone asks Blush

Shopping, last time I got a surge of excitement once the 12w scan was all good and bought moses basket, cot, baby bath, all from ebay and esp. the cot fantastic bargains. Then I seemed to forget I was having a baby and my mum ended up buying all the newborn babygros etc or I could well have ended up without any Shock My sister came round one day and made me wash them all when I was about 38w. I think I was in denial.

We don't need to get any more baby things this time round but we have to clear out the study (where will all the stuff go....?) and redecorate it as DD's room so that newbaby can have the nursery.

Every pg is different, last time I was perfectly capable of all-day shopping trips in late pg and was still walking for an hour a day most days. This time round I am constantly exhausted and look back on my mat leave last time wtih astonishment. Why was I walking, not lying in bed reading novels and resting?! No such luck this time with DD around.

SconesForTea · 24/06/2011 09:01

Baby hospital programme - watched the first one, bawled, decided against watching any more. Made me fearful of a HB for some reason.

BB3 · 24/06/2011 10:20

Edward it's on Tuesdays at 9pm if you really are a gluten for punishment you can still watch the first two online! - www.itv.com/itvplayer/video/?Filter=247271 - I'll have a look at cots but think they will probably go into DS's cot bed together for a while (because it's huge and was really expensive and he hasn't used it all that much!)

Sassy when your waters broke did they rush you in for a section then?

sassy34264 · 24/06/2011 11:02

scones they are 10 months and both starting to walk! argh.
bb3 did they bloody hell. i had to put a bath towel between my legs like a sumo wrestler, i went through 3 of them before my dp got me to hospital. (didnt go straight away as i had to wait for my auntie to come to look after dd1) and when i got to the labour ward they handed me a maternity towel! Hmm
because i wasnt having regular contractions they said they would give me a steroid injection, monitor me for a bit and send me home!!!!!! within an hour i was having contractions every few minutes and they where strong and bloody long- good job they could see them on the monitor otherwise im sure they would have still fecking sent me home. so then i was sent for c section. time scale= 6.30am waters broke. babies born 11.53 + 11.54- so definately no rushing for me. i think we got to the hospital about 7.30am and they didnt even put me on the labour ward at first. i spent a while in the normal rooms they use for in patients while they faffed about supposedly monitoring for any contractions and my diabetes.

sassy34264 · 24/06/2011 11:16

bb3 i spent the whole twin pregnancy absolutely terrified. it was the most stressful time of my life. i think you just have twice as much to lose and it makes for more anxiety. mine started when i found out at 5 weeks that i was carrying twins (id had sharp pains and was convinced it was eptopic, so had early scan) but i was also told that i had a bleed between them and the outcomes where, bleed could come out babies fine, bleed could come out, lose babies, bleed could reabsorb and everything is fine. and the terrifying experience started from then. it was definately heightened because of my mums experience. this pregnancy is soooooo easy in comparison. i barely know im pregnant except for my size. i definately look 6 if not more monthsscones.
its just the first 6months bb3 just get through them and its a lot easier. Smile

BB3 · 24/06/2011 16:46

oh sassy don't envy you - DS was an early walker (running by 10 months) and it was hard work! He would get so frustrated because he physically could do things but was too young to speak / understand things. Thanks for making me feel that I am not completely insane - I was soooo relaxed with DS didn't even really consider myself pregnant until 9 months but this time I am obsessed with kicks and pains and movements and well just about everything!!!

I am in a really bad mood today, basically ripped DH's head off this morning for no reason and then had to go and get two new tyres for the car which cost a bloody fortune and had the most patronising man in the garage who clearly thought I knew nothing about cars at all (I don't know much but I know what a tyre is and how much they cost especially when I have researched them all morning). I had a lovely garage at the old house who I trusted implicitly but don't know anyone around here!!!

Moan over!

BB3 · 24/06/2011 17:30

Phew work finished for another week. House dusted (no point attempting to hoover until DS is asleep as he'll just make it a mess again!) and more things off my to do list ticked! I think this pregnancy is making me a bit obsessed with to do lists!!!!

dannid · 24/06/2011 20:47

Just wondering if anyone else has been having any cravings yet? I dont normally eat red meat but can't seem to get enough if it at the mo. Just polished off a lovely steak and am already wondering if I could persuade the hubby to drive to mcdonalds for a cheese burger!!! Shock

It's my last day at my Saturday job tomorrow...was starting to find it really difficult as it was in a really busy shop and meant I don't get to sit down all day long. I've done it since just after I had ds and am going to kinda miss it but I honestly can't wait to get my weekends back! Yay!!!

Also bought my first baby related item today...little newborn outfit set from Asda...we don't really need much as still have all the bits from ds but thought this would be handy to take into hospital for LO to wear. It is very cute and has got me very excited about our darling bump!!! I am not sure if it's something they are doing nation wide but asda had loads of maternity clothes on sale...most of the trousers had been reduced to £1 a pair!!!!

superjobeespecs · 25/06/2011 17:49

saw the baby move for the first time yesterday!! was on the phone to OH when i noticed an odd lump beside my tummy button, (i was lying down) mentioned it to OH he says push on it i did and the wee monkey kicked me and moooooved!! ah it was fantastic, im sure if i sat still long enough i'd of noticed it before but im happy i have now :)

happy mummy today good blether wi my mum about bumpers she's insistent she's making one now because im really not sure which one to buy anymore so she's 'taking it out of my hands' pain in the arse she is :) also my best friends offered her mums knitting services to me Grin she's getting her to knit wee hooded cardis and hats and gloves 'cos its cold that time of year and it'll save me spending' she's too sweet for words

shelleylou · 26/06/2011 09:47

Super i love seeing baby move. Have been for a little while.

TallyBear · 26/06/2011 11:26

Let the shopping commence.....

Part of me wonders if it's too early but then reading through this I see I'm not the only one so I don't feel too bad!

Ordered a cot yesterday (£160 to £99 at Mamas and Papas) and bought a mattress (£101 to £25 at Ikea) but now desperately measuring our room! Might be a squeeze but it's only for a few months right? He will be going in the little room later, but I think it is just about big enough for all the bits. Dh is a bit put out as that is the 'library' at the moment and it will mean displacing loads of bookshelves (where they will go is another matter) but I want to keep the spare room for people to stay as we don't live close to family/friends etc. Also ordered a Dream Genii, as I keep rolling onto my back and apparently this is a no-no!

Looking at prams too. Any thoughts from 2nd/3rd time mums? I'd done a bit of research online and yesterday we went to M&Ps and Mothercare and it was a complete head! Why is it so complicated?!! Must admit though, despite initial thoughts, I was impressed at the knowledge in mothercare (good advice on wheels, car seats etc). We initially liked the MC MyChoice. Having got home and a bit more on-line research I think I prefer the Maxi-Cosi Mura 3. Problem being that while it is available on line in many places I can't see any stores where I can look at it. If anyone comes across it please let me know. It's on offer at Boots (online only) at the moment) and we'd get loads of points as well, but I'm not sure I want to order this early. Certainly not before looking at it.

I haven't even thought about what else we might need but our general feeling is that there is so much stuff they are trying to sell us and we need to sort the necessary from the nice before we bankrupt ourselves! Keeping an eye on freecycle but nothing much around at the moment - typical!

All advice gratefully received...!!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 26/06/2011 12:18

tally you need to decide what's most important to u like will u use public transport or a car? Do u prefer modern or more traditional and how much money you want to spend.

I have quinny buzz 3 for DS and using it again for this one I really like it but it can be quite heavy when lifting into the car and shopping basket isn't great.
My biggest mistake was not realising that it needs to be serviced regularly. After about a year the folding mechanism stopped working and wheel stopped swivelling I hated it but shop oiled it for me and I love it again.
If I was buying a pram now the silver cross surf or the oyster look really good.

superjobeespecs · 26/06/2011 13:47

shelley its so lovely when he's wriggling around :) he likes my mum and my OH whenever their here or even on the phone he goes cray Grin love it!!

tally ive left it up to my OH to choose the pram becaus ei hate them all Shock i hate big bulky ones but dont ewant a small one because they look cheap and nasty, i want one we can use for more than 6 months and wont be outgrown/still too big etc ive seen about 6 i sort of like and have went off within days!! just now i think OH is interested in the flash pram on ebay and a graco quattro tour but im taking nothing to do with it :)

TallyBear · 26/06/2011 14:26

Thanks EdwardorEric (btw - Eric, every time!)

We'll be using both but I think mainly foot and car. Occasionally train. Not bothered about style, but, on advice from MC assistant, we need big, simple wheels, rather than small 'urban' wheels. While we live in a town we are close to countryside and may take him along the canal path or round the country park so need wheels that won't clog and are 'soft'. We don't want to spend a fortune and I think both ones we were looking at come to about £400-450 ish (plus car seat) - I think that's quite reasonable. I certainly can't justify bugaboo prices.

I looked at the Quinny and really liked it but OH didn't. Didn't look at the Surf (there were only so many prams we could take in in one day!). Friends of ours have another Silver Cross and are thinking of replacing it after 3 months, but not sure why. Need to ask them.

superjob.. I'd love to do that but I'm afraid I'm a bit of a control freak (spreadsheet already set up to compare and price up models!) and as I'll be the main one using it I want to be happy. He usually leaves these things to me (knowing what I'm like) and then gives his view along the way!

superjobeespecs · 26/06/2011 16:18

lol, my OH was shocked when i told him he could choose but ive chosen everything else and i intend to force him out with the kids as often as possible so i can sleep all day Grin encourage him to be hands on with the kids Wink
