Morning all!
Re-weight gain. I've put on a stone so far (21wks). I haven't a clue how much I put on with DD, I didn't dare get on the scales before I was pregnant so I wasn't going to do it during... in fact I don't think we had any scales then. But I think I lost weight/changed shape overall as I was back in pre-pregnancy jeans 2 weeks later, and they were too big.

Regarding OH's my DH didn't seem at all interested before DD was born (except for at the appointments), and even for a while once she was. He'd never been around babies, but once he got over his fear he was fantastic. This time around he's a little more involved, and certainly helping more and stopping em doing things because he can see I'm in pain.
Really though they don't have the constant reminder of aches, niggles and kicks that we have. They're lucky enough to be able to forget about it occasionally and get on with life as normal.

I've finally admitted defeat and I'm off to Bravissimo this afternoon. I've changed shape so much over the past couple of years that I've not wanted to buy any more but I'm wearing underwires and they're digging in, plus my nipples are getting sore! (Sorry TMI.) I'm hoping though that I can get away with buying one, then find some more at a reduced price online.

I'm not particularly looking forward to the trip though. I hate going into Manchester at the best of times and I know that walking is going to make the SPD worse, but it has to be done.
DD is looking forward to it though as I've promised we can buy her some pretty hair slides. We've been dealing with Nits this past fortnight and as a result I've finally persuade her to have her hair tied up for more than 5 minutes!

Morning all

Thanks sassy DH works all over the place (he was only back from two months in India a week when he was off to Wales for three weeks) - as a result of this and the twins we have just built a 4 bed house on the side of my parents (we were previously over an hour away) so that I have some support - it's 'interesting' being that close to parents again but I know in the long run it will be beneficial with three kids under 2.5 and the area is much nicer than where we were before and DS has a huge garden he can escape too! Also means we are next door to my sister who is DH's nanny. So with DH we have all or nothing - around constantly or gone for a months which is nice but also hard at the same time when you have got yourself into a routine and then he comes home and messes it all up! Smile

Re vbac - I'd really like to have one but I am trying to be realistic that this is probably not going to happen. Twin 1 is breach (which is normal for this stage) but it's placenta is blocking the exit route and they don't think it will move! Still whatever is best for the munchkins will be fine. I worry about the skin to skin thing afterwards as that was really important for me with DS and he fed as soon as he was out but I will work all that out with my midwife I guess. And i also remember how much I HATED the labour with one baby (not the pushing but the labour!) so the thought of two coming out makes me think cs won't be all bad! AND I also don't fancy pushing one out only for the other to come out the top! Wink

bilblio i know I need to do that too but I resent buying maternity bras - I have no idea why but I will make myself do it this weekend!

At the moment I know I have put on a lot of weight but still look quite neat (although it was the same with DS and then I exploded at 7.5 months!) so am preparing myself for that.

Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend - I am going to have a very chilled, organising one trying to finish off bits in the house like buying lampshades and spending time with DS. I am in the office today but simply can't get the motivation to do anything - suppose I better at least pretend to do something!

emmazed · 17/06/2011 14:32

hey everyone and congrats on your scans so far.
I have just started exercising for the first time since getting preg as i am putting on loads of weight (above that recommended for my height and weight) and I feel that it might be better to be a bit fitter for labour. I am doing a DVD and going well so far (1 week in). Quite a lot of the dvds on offer have post natal sections so that might be something to consider, although I don?t know how people have the time with a newborn
I know weight doesn?t really matter, but I am so unfit at the moment and I know having more exercise will help (even just in my head!)
I bought a dream genii pillow and so far so good with it. Perhaps worth considering for those that are sleeping badly?

SconesForTea · 17/06/2011 14:44

Hmm, I considered a dream genii pillow last time, didn't get one in the end, I think I thought they cost too much - well if they cost a lot when I was earning a good wage what on earth will I think they cost now Confused Slept slightly better last night - I'm making a real effort not to drink too much in the evenings. I do like a cocoa just before bed though.

As for PN exercise for at least the first fortnght I was too tired to really move much, and after that going for a simple walk exhausted me. After a few weeks I was walking normally and I seemed to lose the weight through walking (I live in a very hilly area!) and BF. I adored BF, I can't wait to feed another baby Smile

SconesForTea · 17/06/2011 14:45

Although I can wait to actually have another baby. Am worried how I'll cope with two... I take my hat off to those of you having twins!!

SconesForTea · 17/06/2011 15:41

Sassy v sad for your mum losing a twin.

PenguinArmy · 17/06/2011 17:14

bilbio we discussed it a while back but a stone at around this time was just right :)

shelleylou · 17/06/2011 17:20

Thanks.
The top of my belly button has popped out too DP thinks its amusing lol

bilblio · 17/06/2011 20:38

BB3 - you might not actually need maternity bras. I went in with the idea of buying them because the underwires have been really digging in, but the fitter suggested it might just be the fit. I tried a few on, and bought a normal underwired one which fits now, but with a bit of adjustment should still fit as I grow over the next few months, but could be adjusted to be smaller too. My rib cage expanded loads with DD.
I've just bought one, and now I know what size I really am I'm going to raid bra-stop.... mind you I never have more than about 3 bras anyway, I can't afford them... until I discovered bra-stop anyway...

And you're home set-up sounds very helpful. I'm not sure I could cope with living next door to my parents, but I'd love to live closer to them. We're about an hour away too. DH would hate it.... but the house would be so much cleaner :)

I'm very impressed with people doing exercise. I needed a sit down after walking up 2 flights of stairs today!

sassy34264 · 17/06/2011 20:54

just quick post because ive been out shopping for things for the builder all day and im gonna flop into bed. but i thought id just mention that they dont recommend you wear underwire bras if you plan to breast feed. if you' re not planning to then its ok. im not sure why exactly. im still wearing my maternity/nursing bras from the twin pregnancy! i get/ got mine from marks and spencer. they measure you and then bring them to you snd mske sure they fit. they wont win any prizes for style or attractiveness but they're ok and do the job. night

cupofteaplease · 17/06/2011 21:18

Hi all,

Went to the nurse this afternoon and she tested my urine which showed that yes, I have an infection. Was relieved in a way that these pains in my tummy and now my back are not 'just' due to pregnancy and can be treated! So the doctor has given me some antibiotics- hope they kick in soon Smile. The doctor has asked that I take another sample in on Monday morning to send off to the lab, I don't know why though?

4 people have commented today that I finally look pregnant, at 23 weeks!

bilblio · 17/06/2011 22:52

sassy from reading around underwired bras only cause problems when they don't fit properly, so dig in, which is what my old ones were doing. That's why I made sure the new one will still be okay as I expand :)
Marks and sparks are a total waste of time for me, before discovering bravissimo I spent a fortune on bras there which gave me no support at all. I always got measured, but I think the assistants just found ones that roughly fit so that I'd bought something. It was only once I'd been to bravissimo that I realised I was a totally different size to what I thought, and it was possible to have my boobs on my chest rather than halfway down to my waist. :o
Oh and I can get far prettier ones than ever possible in M&S.

cupoftea Glad you got sorted at the doctors. Urine infections can be really nasty. A lot worse than people realise. But once you're on antibiotics you do start feeling better pretty quickly.
They probably need you to take another sample in on Monday because most surgeries send samples to the lab around lunchtime, and they wouldn't be able to keep your sample over the weekend. If it's tested at the lab they can find out exactly what type of infection it is and they may prescribe some specific antibiotics to clear it up.
Even if they don't I'd advise taking in another sample once you've finished the tablets just to make sure it's definitely gone.

sassy34264 · 18/06/2011 07:52

bilbilo im not a small girl in the boob dept, so not wearing underwire bras makes me look a bit like i have misshapen melons! but ive always been told not to wear them. i admit they are not pretty! but to be truthful nothing about me when im pregnant is pretty! i dont do glowing. Smile
also i dont see the point in spending a fortune on pretty bras that would be teamed up with size 20 knickers from tesco!!!! lmao.

PenguinArmy · 18/06/2011 07:53

I never told anything about not wearing underwire bras when pg if that helps anyone.

sassy34264 · 18/06/2011 08:06

bras

just found this.

monkeybubbles · 18/06/2011 15:04

hi!
i haven't been on in ages, just trying to catch up with things today. I was a bit depressed after my 20 week scan (am 23 weeks now) and finding out that i have a low lying placenta. it's just made me more paranoid about things going wrong.

i'm booked in for a scan at 36 weeks, so hopefully it will have moved up by then...but it's a long time to wait to find out!

Bumpsadaisie · 18/06/2011 18:11

Monkey - don't worry too much about the low lying placenta - a few of us have got the same thing. My midwife said 9 times out of 10 it moves up by itself. Ive got another scan at 32 weeks.

bilblio · 18/06/2011 20:50

Monkey - I agree with Bumps about the placenta. I had a low lying one last time, and again this time. Last time I was told it was touching the cervix, so as low as it could be. But it moved. It's not worth fretting about, just look forward to seeing you baby again at 36 weeks. :)

Having spent today looking round on the internet for some more bras wired and non-wired (I only bought one as I was hoping for bargain ones.) It seems I've got to buy wired anyway as I can't find any non-wired. I didn't think I was that big! I've not bought any though as my head has been all over the place today and I can't concentrate.
My lovely neighbours are moving out this weekend because they've had a lot of racial hatred incidents (they're Polish.) :( They're some of the nicest neighbours I've ever had, and I'm going to really miss them... although maybe not their cat who can get into our fridge!
I'm just hoping we don't end up with the sort of idiots living next door to us who've driven them out.

shelleylou · 18/06/2011 21:27

All this talk of placenta had me wondering about something i thought i saw on my scan notes. It says my placenta is anterior not low so bit confused as to what it means dont want to google incase i worry myself lol. Obviously the low is self explanatory but i cant quite remember anything else on it lol. Cant recall having anything like that in my notes with DS1

sassy34264 · 18/06/2011 23:04

shelleylou anterior just means your placenta is lying against the front of your womb/bump. so it could be just behind where your belly button is, or below it or above it iyswim. i had it with twin pregnancy. it can cause problems if its too low, cos i think it can cover the cervix or be where they need to cut if you needed a c section. noone ever told me that mine was low though, so its not always a problem. i still felt lots of kicks too, as this is sometimes mentioned as a problem with having an anterior placenta cos the baby will be kicking the placenta and not necessarily your belly. its not always something to worry about. i would ask your midwife if yours is low or not, if you are concerned. i dont know what mine is this time. never thought to ask and not noticed on my notes. i have been feeling kicks now though for about a week. the little bugger loves to do it just as i get into bed. Smile i mentioned it to everyone on my sept 10 thread (when twins were due) and its making them broody- but im still the only one daft enough to be pregnant again so soon. Grin

sassy34264 · 18/06/2011 23:15

bilbilo thats not very nice about your neighbours. hopefully they will be treated better in their new place.

shelleylou · 19/06/2011 07:51

thanks sassy. It can be low as it states on notes it isnt. I know i would have found some horror story if i had googled. I seam to pick the wrong links haha. I've felt plenty of movemt and other people have too so not worried about that in the slightest. Benn getting movements since 15 weeks and proper kicks since about 17. Im now 21+5. Ye sounds a bit mad to me lol but then again i always wanted a small age gap between dc's. There was 18 months between my brother and I which was great fun. As it is DS will be turning 5 shortly after LO is born lol.

cupofteaplease · 19/06/2011 09:34

I had an anterior placenta with dd1, and it really muffled her kicks, I hardly felt anything!! (But she was also back to back and breech, not sure if that had anything to do with it too...)

Bilblio That's disgraceful about your neighbours. I hope you get some equally nice new ones.

elgoldenflower · 19/06/2011 10:33

Re bras - I'm in Emma Jane maternity bras, bit functional looking but non-wired and fairly supportive to my now 40DD boobs. Really fancy trying one of these bravado bras as they seem very clever and comfy if a little pricey.

I can feel our little bub's movements all the time now, he seems to have developed a real pattern of rest and activity. Today I can feel what I think are kicks on the right and punches on the left, he was lying that way on the scan so presume he still is. DP has felt definite kicks too now. He now asks, "how are you both" when I get in from work and often strokes my bump and talks to the little bubba - I just love that, it cheers me right up when I'm in a grump.

Speaking of grumps I'm finding the hormonal emotions are getting tough to handle. Get very grumpy and cross (mainly due to SPD and way people treat me on public transport) and it just gets extreme and really hard to snap out of. Oh and my feet and ankles are swelling up most days now. Anyone else have this at 21 weeks?

That said it is all worth it to feel those wonderful kicks!

Hello everyone, good news on the scans - has anyone worked out if we are more boys or girls? I am happier now about having a boy despite looking longingly at all the cute frilly dresses. DH and I walked past a toddler yesterday having a lovely time stamping in the puddles in his wellies and said we're having one of those. He was so sweet my heart sang!
I drove down to Cornwall last night we are renting a cottage in a fishing viLlage for a week. I have to meet DH at lands end today. He has cycled from John o Groats in 9 days, camping at night.

Rebel, you're DH may feel differently in a few weeks mine was in complete panic at first despite this being jointly planned and long awaited. He was very disinterested for the first few months not wanting to come to scans or be at the birth. He has had a complete u turn. Coming to 20 week scan helped him connect as well and he is now as excited as me. Love to all xxx
