Hi all,

I had my scan yesterday and found out we are having a boy! :) The opposite of everyone's prediction. He is doing fine but wouldn't cooperate enough to get into a position where they could see the heart well so we've another scan in 2 weeks. I feel quite pleased about that really - we get an extra peek!

He's kicking loads now, several phase throughout the day but bed time is when he's most active (surprise surprise). I've felt a few kicks on the outside and DP has felt a couple too although they're very gentle.

My SPD is highly frustrating but crutches are helping me get about some. Quite painful but paracetamol and rest make it cope-able with. PA my sleep's rubbish too, I just wake up so often I think I usually miss out on the restful deep-sleep phase and wake up exhausted. Can't wait to finish/reduce work - can't come soon enough.

As well as having our lovely scan we found out we'll be getting the keys to our new house on midsummer's day so moving at the beginning of July. It's going to be a challenge but can't wait to be in there and start sorting out the nursery in earnest and nesting. DP's being wonderful with looking after me and being prepared to do most of the packing and decorating.

Cupoftea So sorry about your friend, it's so desperately tragic and reminds us all of how fragile and amazing these little lives are.

Hope everyone's taking it easy and putting those scales away!

Sorry for the essay people!

bilblio thanks for the changing mat tip off - i have added it to the list. Good luck with your scan.

not sure when i will start to buy things, but it feels a little early yet.

We are the last one of our siblings to have kids so are hoping for lots of hand me downs. We already have been offered a car seat (and fix) and a push chair system which is fantastic.

superjobeespecs · 09/06/2011 18:03

fabby day today bumpy is huge and sitting proudly out in the world lol DD s been a wee jealous bum because we were looking at baby things i should know by now to not take her with me as her attitude towards my shopping for baby puts me in a rubbish mood. luckily i cant stay in a bad mood for long :) loving the fact that MN has taken my mind off my lack of scan so far as im not totally obsessed on a hourly basis about when it is Grin roll on next wed also the fact the pc wallpaper is off my 12 week scan and bumpy looks like my DH on it makes me very happy :)

bilblio · 09/06/2011 18:04

Had my scan this afternoon, LO was being stubborn and wouldn't lie in the right position but we got there eventually. All is well with baby, except the stubbornness, and they're a fidget... just like DD.
It gave us a little wave and we got a good shot of it kicking my bladder, no wonder I keep feeling like I need the loo!
My Mum and DD came in too which I'm so pleased about. Mum has never seen a scan so she really enjoyed it.

There's a few issues with me. I've got a low lying placenta, which I had last time too. It's not very low lying, it was last time and it moved so I'm not concerned. I'm just looking forward to getting another scan at 35 weeks. :) It was great last time.

I've also probably got the beginnings of SPD. I've been in quite a lot of pain for the past couple of weeks and after reading elgoldenflowers description I've had my suspicions. The MW said to put a belt tightly around my hips and if that eases it then I should get a referral for physio and a proper support belt.

But LO is okay, and that's all I'm bothered about. :)

PenguinArmy · 09/06/2011 18:49

Who was it that had the fibroid thing? I read that thread and it sounds horrendous.

I have some trapped nerve issues but it doesn't seem to be progressing although it is worse than last time. Then only exercise triggered it, now I just have random days where I limp.

Well didn't get to sleep until 1:30 but it beats the night before but am feeling grumpy today and I feel really pg. Surely I shouldn't feel that for a few more months yet?

ceeceeanne · 09/06/2011 21:25

Had scan yesterday, was amazing as we saw 3d images! little face looked so cute. Didnt find out sex so will be a lovely surprise! Hope everyone enjoyed scan!

TallyBear · 09/06/2011 21:53

We had our scan on Tuesday. Couldn't believe how much we could see. We got all the way to the end and I was sorting myself out when I mentioned to dh that we'd still need two sets of names as we didn't know the sex (naive me thought it would be easy to spot) when the sonographer piped up that she knew what it was (I guess that she knew what she was looking for!) Bit of a discussion and then decided that we still wanted to know (having ascertained that all was OK health wise, as far as they can tell). Bottom line is that we're having a boy! :)

Now comes the difficult part - names. There are so many more nicer girls names to choose from! We've started to disagree already, with dh wanting something more traditional and me wanting something a little bit unusual, although not way out there, just not boring. Still, at least we have 4 and a half months to decide... Hmm

Confused2011 · 09/06/2011 21:59

Great two days for me, as two people have stood up for me on the tube!! I've been trying to perfect the "walk onto the train, stick bump out and look around with a miserable face for spare seat" look. Couldn't thank them enough!

Cupoftea so sorry to hear about your friend. Do they know what triggered the birth? If the hospital had known there was a problem in advance they might have done a CS to bring the baby out "awake", although 26 weeks is still very premature. She must be devastated.

Bubalie · 10/06/2011 09:04

Penguin it was me that had fibroid degeneration, and I can safely say it was the worst thing ever happened to me. I was in so much pain and have been on painkillers and off work for a week now. I posted a thread on general pregnancy forum to see if anyone else had it and few people have replied, so made me feel a bit better as I thought I was the only 'freak' with it!! Unfortunately, I can happen again during this pregnancy, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I will not be that unlucky..

I was so worried about the baby, I've booked a private wellbeing scan on Monday just to make sure that the baby is ok..

I bought a couple of bits from Mamas & Papas yesterday, just a few little hats, socks and all in one's, although I promised myself I wouldn't buy anything just yet and I must say it did make me feel better after all the worry of last week :)

Glad to hear all those 20 week scan are well underway, it is so exciting..

shelleylou · 10/06/2011 09:17

Hope everything is well with baby Bubalie.

Still got till wednesday for my scan cant wait thankfully the week is going quicker than i thought it would. Really wanna see baby again

SconesForTea · 10/06/2011 09:55

6 days to go until my scan!!! Glad you've all had such lovely experiences - it's especially lovely that your mum could see yours bilblio. Not sure my hosp would allow that - they certainly don't allow older children to attend.

PA how's the sleep? Where do you have a trapped nerve? Nothing your obs can do, or refer you to anyone?

Confused I worked in London during my last pg and used to walk onto the tube or train and rub my bump in a very obvious manner - pretty much always worked Smile

DH thinks he felt baby move for the first time last night - but I have to admit I couldn't feel anything from the inside, so not sure if he did (haven't told him that though, he was so pleased). I'm still feeling very little movement. Come on baby, wriggle!

SconesForTea · 10/06/2011 09:55

Is anyone else in the position of having to get a double buggy? If so, do you know which one you're getting? There are so many to choose from, I'm overwhelmed.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 10/06/2011 09:56

morning all

hope all is well, just got LOs cot delivered the other day, wouldn't have ordered it so early if i realised they were so prompt Blush

anyone else feeling completely exhausted and a bit sick again? i said to MW that i thought i might be aneamic but she said its normal to have a dip again, and should feel better soon, but she doesn't want to check my blood for iron before 24wks?

Bumpsadaisie · 10/06/2011 10:40

Scones - I'm wondering whether to get a double buggy - DD will be 2 yrs 5 mths when baby comes. I'm veering towards thinking we won't - we live in a rural area so only really use the buggy to walk down to the village and then in conjunction with the car. And DD spent the first three months in a sling anyway so perhaps baby will do the same. I've looked at that bugaboo donkey thing tho it is ridiculously priced. We have a bug cam for DD which we got for £300 on ebay and it really has been fantastic and well designed. So I think the Donkey might well be good, if it were possible to get it cheap (which it won't be as it is so new, unfortunately). Some people love Phil & Teds, but many people I know have had probs with them breaking etc.

I think it was Biblio who said she had a low lying placenta - me too, had scan on Tues and have got another one at 32 weeks which is nice. We wanted to find out the sex but baby was keeping legs firmly clamped together (even though wriggling top half like mad!!) So the sonographer said she couldn't really tell; she would guess a boy, but not to buy any blue stuff merely on that basis. Perhaps we'll get another look next scan!

Hello to everyone else and good to hear of all the scans.

Bubalie · 10/06/2011 10:42

shelleylou thank you and good luck for your scan on Wednesday :)

bilblio · 10/06/2011 12:26

Scones For most of the scan it was just me and DH in, they don't even allow small children while the sonographer is checking everything, but then when it's time for the sonographer to show us they allow other family members in. DD was more interested in going to the park though to be honest. :) Although she has been talking about it today.

Bumps We're getting our scan for the placenta at about 34, or 35 weeks. It was great when we had it last time. We couldn't get any pictures as DD was too big, but the sonographer moved the scan in such a way that we got an idea of what she looked like, and it was exactly how she looked when she was born. :)

superjobeespecs · 10/06/2011 12:31

i took my mum and best friend with me for my 12 week as OH was away working unfortunately he's away for this 1 too :( so again mum and friend but this time bringing DD along as she's really interested plus scan lady is the same lady who done my scans with DD so is uber excited to meet her in the flesh lol

rebelwithoutababy · 10/06/2011 12:54

Biblio and Bumps snap on the low-lying placenta...can I ask a stupid question: I know if you have proper placenta praevia (ie it stays low after 30+ weeks) they sometimes recommend no sex, but is that the same now? I hope not!!!

bilblio · 10/06/2011 13:38

Rebel, I wasn't told to take it easy or no sex, I was just told to contact them if I have any bleeding at all . It probably explains the bleeding I had a few weeks ago.
I was told the same last time too, so I think you're alright to carry on as normal :)

superjobeespecs · 10/06/2011 14:16

bumpy has taken to bullying my tummy button as a new activity today ooh it hurts mean little bumpy picking on mummy all because i decided the pigsty we have been stewing in really ought to get tidied at some point and today is that day :( or it hated the hoover im not too sure Hmm

Molybdenum · 10/06/2011 15:02

Rebel I am amazed you can even think about sex! I have had absolutely zero interest whatsoever since the night we conceived. I guess it makes sense biologically - why would my body want to have sex when the very thing it wants to have sex for has already happened? But I do feel a bit sad for DH that we haven't had the nice physical intimacy of a sexual relationship for, umm, more than five months. I have warned him it may be another year at least before my fertility (and therefore, I presume, my libido) returns and he reckons he couldn't care less as long as everyone is happy and healthy.

PenguinArmy · 10/06/2011 16:18

I'm been feeling it more than normal, DH has been woken up a few times, but he's not going to complain. to be fair it took us a long time to get back in the saddle so we're keeping up the momentum while we still can.

Well I got to sleep at 2:30 last night, so a total of 4 hours :( plus I'm supposed to be outdoor climbing so am going to try and see if I can sneak in a nap before hand.

Scones I'm not going to bother with a double buggy. The way I see it if I get round to deciding it will be useful then at that point I will have a better idea of what features etc I would like. Figured just sling it for the first few months and see if we end up doing a lot of walking around of not. bumps me and scones will have DD's that are 19/20 months apart in age.

The nerve pain is my bum. Last time the MW was quite dismissive of it, this time I haven't spoken to the OB about it, but think I'll mention it next week.

Also pleased to hear more happy campers regarding their scans.

cupofteaplease · 10/06/2011 21:12

confused2011 They picked up problems at her 20 week scan, fluid on the baby's stomach etc. After that she went into 'hiding' and wouldn't return my messages, so I don't know what the outcome was, until I got the message that the baby had been born. We are old friends who have been through a lot together, I'm hoping I can support her when the time is right for her.

I too don't feel like sex, but then my dh isn't remotely interested at the moment either Hmm.

Glad it's the weekend, it's been a tiring week!

elgoldenflower · 10/06/2011 21:50

I second that cupoftea Thank f**k it's Friday I'm shattered and achy and just want to indulge myself in a lie in.

Had wonderful ridiculous adventure dreams last night and slept really well as the SPD was eased from a day not moving about much. I love that deep pregnant sleep I get sometimes but it's awful having to make myself get up from it when I know I could just doze for hours more dreaming madly.
