Morning all,

I'm now 20+3 and had my 20wk scan yesterday. All went well, I was shocked by how visable and strong the bones looked, the thigh bone shone out, and you could see everything, spine, ribs, elbow, wrist etc. Really amazing.

The LO wasn't playing ball as was tucked up into me facing the wrong way, so the sonographer sent me away to have a chocolate bar and a walk around, and when I came back the LO had moved a bit, so the sonographer could then see the face to check for hair lip etc.

Does anyone know, do we have more scans??? My DH is convinced we only get the two, but that means for the second half of the pregnancy no one looks again, is that right???

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 02/06/2011 09:04

yes there is only 2 scans.

when i was pg with DS there was only 1 scan at 12weeks. so its better than it used to be.

SconesForTea · 02/06/2011 09:29

I have to buy size 14 maternity clothes in Hennes and New Look and I'm a size 10 usually. I guess I balloon when pg (well I know I have this time).

I got a lovely dress from ebay, M&S limited collection maternity. It is so flattering. I look almost - almost! - not pg in it (considering I'm the size of a whale that's quite something).

Cheshire is there any reason you can't go over 12 days overdue? Just being very nosy. Babies arrive very late in our family, DD was 14 days late and they were threatening that I couldn't have my home birth, luckily they gave in without an argument in the end. (Now I know what labour is like I can't imagine having to argue with a health professional while in it.) 38 to 42 weeks is a normal range for pregnancies, not all babies are cooked by 40 weeks exactly.

Feeling fine apart from tiredness, just huge huge huge and I can't believe I've got 20 more weeks growing to do. I will be soooooooooo massive.

rebelwithoutababy · 02/06/2011 09:54

I got really good pg jeans from Gap: long+lean (and I am well-served in the thigh area!) - they are too long, so I need to get them taken up, but good dark denim and hold you in nicely...
Also I have to say ASOS and Topshop online are great (I know I have said this before, and I don't work for them, honest!) as you can try stuff on in the comfort of your own home and send it back v easily if not right. It is all quite reasonable and actually stylish, instead of "mumsy"!
I have got scan this afternoon at 3pm and am getting stressed as usual! I have been thinking about hynobirthing as I am a v stressed medical person who has a little too much (but not enough) knowledge. A friend had a really good experience with hypnobirthing, but it seems as though classes are needed, and they're pretty pricey...anyone have any thoughts on this?
xx

happymummytobe · 02/06/2011 10:08

Hello everyone

I don't have my scan until next Thursday when I'll be 1 day off 22 weeks. That's normal for my hospital apparently... It's been a long wait since the 12 weeks scan!

apples I think I'll take some fizzy water and a chocolate bar too, just in case Wink

Have been in maternity jeans since 10 weeks (so comfy - aaahhh...) but also finding maternity clothes generally quite annoying. Best jeans I've found have been mothercare or gap. The thing that annoys me most is that so many maternity clothes are only available to order on-line and I hate buying things that I can't try on. Got an amazing skirt for £5 (inc p&p) from JoJo online though in their sale - bargain of the year!

xx

happymummytobe · 02/06/2011 10:11

rebel Crossed posts - will look at ASOS today!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 02/06/2011 10:35

i think the reason they don't like you going past 12 days over is because they are afraid the placenta gets less effective? but not sure.

superjobeespecs · 02/06/2011 10:44

as far as im aware from my first little one you shouldnt go more than 10-14 days over as the bones in the skull start to harden and it makes labour more difficult and painful for you and the baby :) hope this helps x

BB3 · 02/06/2011 10:56

I was only allowed 11 days over (however I was NOT waiting that long) so ripped my bathroom up until my waters broke!!! Grin

I am now getting too big for my size 2 gap jeans so have just bought lots of floaty dresses for holiday which I may live in until the summer is over. It's boiling in London today, the train was almost unbearable!

rebel - no idea about hypnobirthing, I say do whatever you think will make you the most comfortable because it's important to be as relaxed as possible but be prepared to have it all thrown out the window on the day. My sister was determined to have a water birth, booked it all in, read up, went to classes and then as soon as she went into labour decided she wanted nothing to do with it (and there was me adamant I was having a natural birth demanding an epidural on arrival to the delivery suite and begging for a c-section which the horrible people never gave me! Blush!), everything can change when you get in that room.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 02/06/2011 11:25

BB3 i'm jealous it feels like october already in scotland think our summer was over in april Sad hasn't stopped raining for weeks!!

I had a holiday at the beginning of may so all the clothes i have that still fit me weren't designed for scottish summer, and i'm really struggling to buy warmer maternity stuff as the shops obviously don't realise we still need full length jeans and jumpers up here. Angry

superjobeespecs · 02/06/2011 11:44

new look inspire range is great when maternity isnt cutting it iv got a couple of long sleeved jumpers out of there a few days ago long bump coverer ones too lol as i agree scotlands summer is far behind us now :( so unfair ..

Crawling · 02/06/2011 13:20

Hi all I am 22 weeks now and we are thinking of Dylan for a boy and Melanie or Olivia for a girl, I am huge now I feel like a cow. I have gained about a stone which I am panicing over Grin but I gained 3 stone on both my other pgs and lost it fine so I dont know why I am worried about it. It is great hearing about all these happy scans.

SconesForTea · 02/06/2011 13:34

rebel I bought a hypnobirthing CD and listened to it diligently every day in the last few weeks of pg (it sent me to sleep actually so was a good way of having a guaranteed nap Wink). When it came to labour I couldn't use the processes at all, I just couldn't concentrate on it and the idea of turning down the pain by imagning a big dial was laughable. So my advice would be, if you're going to do hypnobirthing, go straight for the proper course, I'm sure it's much better having a teacher than listening to a CD on your own.

Edward have you tried ebay for winter mat clothes, you can get all sorts whatever the time of year.

apples82 · 02/06/2011 13:53

Hello everyone,

I, along with Crawling, am wondering about weight gain. I weighed myself today and i've put on a stone since pre-pregnancy.

Is a stone in 20 weeks too much to have put on?

superjobeespecs · 02/06/2011 16:19

when i was pg with DD 7 years ago (almost to the month lol) the weight gain recommended was 1 stone 12 pounds, i put this on till i was 39 wks then cos i was 6 days over due i put on another 2 lbs good times lol not sure if its still 1s 12lbs but thats my guideline for this baby on board too :)

elgoldenflower · 02/06/2011 17:10

Hello people,

Well it's official I have full SPD - going to be fitted for crutches on Monday. Physio's still shocked I'm only 19 weeks. Got to rest as much as possible apparently which is one thing at home (esp as this is my first LO) but I run drama workshops all over Yorkshire for a living so traveling and facilitating is going to be a challenge. Thank goodness most of it stops by 15th July.

Looking forward to the scan next Wednesday - fingers crossed all is well and I can get all excited about being pregnant again instead of whinging.

I too am finding maternity clothes irritating, bought a few mat dresses, tunics and flowing to wear over leggings but tend to make me feel fat rather than pregnant. Just bought a couple of mat vests to wear with my jeans so I can show off my bump and the only slim bit left underneath my enormous boobs.

CheshireDing · 02/06/2011 17:17

I don't know scones, although I presume what Edward and super say is correct. Plus I reckon by then ANY day overdue is too much anyway !:)

Does anybody else feel like they have eaten a ten course meal now, today I have felt so stuffed and stretched and I thought maybe by trousers were too tight and that's why is was getting tummy ache and feeling sick today, or Porge was in it's final death throws or something because it was kicking but I have felt so I'll all day. DH just got his Doppler out and it's still alive though but I feel terrible :(

CheshireDing · 02/06/2011 17:20

Sorry golden what's SPD? Is it terrible or. Just a pregnancy thing that will go afterwards?

superjobeespecs · 02/06/2011 17:58

god yeah i hated going over but it was better than when she tried coming at 33 weeks twice within 24 hours lol had the steriod injections drip to stop contractions and scbu were phoned twice as she was ready to go the wee bum i think cos we stopped her she went ah well you must not be bothered meeting me i'll just stay put lol i was booked in for an induction the following monday she came that friday grr she's my wee troublemaker haha :)

elgoldenflower · 02/06/2011 19:38

Cheshire SPD is symphysis pubis dysfunction - pelvic instability due the relaxin hormone. It's very painful, like a bee sting in my pubic bone and gets worse the more I walk, I walked about 200 yards today and been limping around the house all afternoon. Sometimes it feels like my leg is tearing away from my hip. It often goes straight after birth or within a few months at least.

seasaltbaby · 02/06/2011 22:13

Hello everyone, sorry I've been away from the bus (again) for ages but loving reading all your posts and esp hearing about the 20 week scans, amazing! its been a bit full on in RL so find it hard to keep up with you guys...

I'll join the moan club too....I've generally been doing ok up until last weekend when I became a complete emotional wreck which is very unlike me. I've had a lot of work stress and we've been away every weekend since April and I got to the point where I couldn't cope anymore! DH never seen me like this but promptly took me out shopping and out for lunch so that helped :) I took a couple of days off sick too & now feel I've got myself back together.

anyway pregnancy wise I think I'm doing ok-not having a lot of movement yet, no kicks, just possible flutters, so interesting to read all your different experiences, but its hard not to think the worst and get v anxious. I'm sure I've been too busy to notice anyway! I'm so excited about our 20 week scan next Tues, cant wait!

sorry to hear about your SPD elgoldenflower I think that must be v painful :(

and I think I must have been lucky in Mamas & Papas cos I got some great jeans from there which fit really well & a load of other stuff in the sale!

sorry for long post, I'll try & keep up a bit more now!

PenguinArmy · 03/06/2011 03:20

seasalt glad the days off helped. I understand how you feel. Today I had a big review (science review not personal) which despite my boss having a face like thunder my results were very well received and a few people came and spoke to me afterwards. Reminds me that I do do good work even if it's never enough for twatface. I wasn't able to really sleep the last few days nor barely face getting up. I think he'll give me some trouble over the next few weeks before I leave but I need to remember that I am leaving and therefore don't need to care where the future direction of this project lies.

flower :( SPD sucks I hope you get access to some really good care. I would have thought that something like that could benefit from a dedicated support thread.

I wore some smart clothes today and couldn't believe how pg it made me look. I had to wear some black maternity trousers as my normal clothes are too casual and they were far too big. I had this last time with trousers, it was ages before waist fitted me but I'm at the edge of my normal ones already and have to change out of them when I get home.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 03/06/2011 08:04

morning all. i'm really cheery today as man upstairs must have seen my rant yesterday and SCOTLAND HAVE SUNSHINE TODAY GrinGrin

on top of that its my birthday today i have a half day at work, then going for 20wk scan to see LO, then hubby treating me to cinema and dinner Grin

BB3 · 03/06/2011 08:45
