Hi all, we had a bit of a scare yesterday. Had a bit of bleeding, not much and it was old blood but still scared me. The midwife said to go to the GP and get referred to the ante-natal unit.
Thankfully all is okay. Heard a good strong heartbeat, had an internal and a smear (hoping I'll not need one after the birth now as it was overdue.) The Doctor could see where I'd bled from but all is okay now so I've just been told to rest. So I'm off work again and DH and DD are going away for the night so I'll have some peace.

soundofherwings glad you had a good scan. We aren't having any tests done either as like you it wouldn't change any decisions and I don't want the extra worry. I'm glad we're not the only ones, people seem to think I'm weird for not having any tests.

Edward Name are a matter of much dispute here... I've wanted the same boys name for 4 years. DH hates it. Girl's names we're stuck on, although the last one I mentioned DH hasn't totally veto'd. I've decided to just give up for now and think about it in a few months... when I've bought a name book.

I became an aunty again in the early hours of this morning. :o Spoke to SIL at 5pm but there were no signs of twinges. Contractions started at about 7, they went to hospital at 9:30 but were sent home at 11. They went back to hospital at 1:50am when contractions were 4 minutes apart and DN arrived 40 minutes later. My SIL has very swift labours. :)

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 21/05/2011 15:41

bilblio sorry to hear about your bleed, take care of yourself, its good that doc was able to put your mind at rest so quickly.

congratulations on your new neice. 40 mins is amazing!!

ive been having a look at the bugaboo donkey (despite already having a perfectly good pram) none of the stockists seem to have a price online Confused but i've heard its around £1200!!!! Shock still it looks fab

Confused2011 · 21/05/2011 21:57

Soundofherwings and bilblio, we didn't have any tests either as the results were likely to be high risk anyway due to my age and we weren't prepared to take the 1% risk of a miscarriage with a chorio or amnio. I also though we would be the only ones! We decided that even if the child has Down's it's still our child and we would want to keep it, although I totally respect other couples making a different decision for their family, as a child with Down's is a very big responsibility to take on.

shelleylou · 21/05/2011 22:39

We've been thinking of names to first name for a girl is a definite just trying to work out a middle name. As for a boy we're the opposite nothing jumps out to me for a first name, Middle name will be Matthew after my db as long as my parents are ok with it.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 22/05/2011 07:28

Told DH about mathew last night be doesn't like it Sad
so I'm back to nothing for a boy

shelleylou · 22/05/2011 09:10

aww Edward i hate it when that happens DP and I can only agree on that 1 girls name boys names havent got a chance lol. Luckily He doesnt have a problem me having Matthew for a boy as he knows the reason behind it dispite never having the chance to meet my db.
I cant wait to have my scan so we know what it is so we can look at names easier. DS goes from wanting ti to be a girl to a boy and back again a lot its quite sweet. he said to me yesterday if its a girl lets call it xxxxx which is the name DP and I have already chosen. I know some people will hate the name but we love it and it has a meaning to me with the timing LO will arrive x

Borisneedsahaircut · 22/05/2011 22:35

Hi, I am just joining the bus a bit late I'm due the 19th :)

rebelwithoutababy · 23/05/2011 10:21

congrats on scan soundofherwings and glad everything was ok with you biblio: hope you had a restful weekend.

All those struggling with names - me too! Well, actually I have lots of names, but DH has vetoed most of the boys' ones. He likes my girl ones, but the only alternative boys' names he can come up with are our two nephews' names and his own (!!!!) ...hmmm.

My LO is kicking and wriggling loads (I am calling it Thumper) and I am now convinced it's a boy as I can't believe a girl would be this active and wriggly! Also I had a really vivid dream where we had a son, who was about 6 in the dream: he looked just like my DH and I was so happy and full of love for him in the dream (I was watching him play football in the garden). I thought how much a boy might be like my DH (who is pretty perfect and wonderful, except for the names thing!) and it made me very happy, which is good as before I had really wanted a girl..

I still think I want to find out the sex at our 20 week scan next week, although only because I want to know more about the LO rather than because I mind either way now...DH says he is happy to find out if that's what I want, but I think deep down he wants the surprise on the day...hmm....Confused

PunkyBubba · 23/05/2011 10:35

Welcome to the bus Borisneedsahaircut! The more the merrier :-)

Although.... I'm pretty hacked off this morning so hope you all don't mind me ranting on here.. I spent all yesterday excitedly waiting for my scan today.. Now that DP has given in and said he will find out the sex too we've been going over names again and were both really looking forward to confirming everything is ok before we head off on our 2 week hols..

Then we had a phonecall first thing this morning cancelling the scan!! Apparently the sonographer has had a family emergency, and they have no idea when they can rearrange for but it will probably not be until after our holiday now. They said they will be in touch, hopefully later today to rebook. SOOOOOO upset and annoyed.. Apart from the whole being massively messed around on the work front (both DP and I work away a lot, so have had to mess clients about rearranging days we go on site, cancel hotels, lose money on booked train tickets, etc as they only called us last week to give us today as a scan date.. but obviously my main cause for upset is I was sooooo ready to see my baby today, and just hopefully have everything confirmed as ok. I'm still not regularly feeling movement and it would be so nice to have that reassurance that everything is well. I don't blame the sonographer, as I'm sure she didnt choose her father to be rushed to hospital just to upset me, but think the whole booking of the scan has been a bit of a shambles.. Now just really hoping they can fit me in this week (though somehow I doubt it from the way they were speaking) :-(

Borisneedsahaircut · 23/05/2011 11:20

Thankyou pink

Borisneedsahaircut · 23/05/2011 11:23

Sorry punky!!! :) Oh no what a let down! :( I am surprised they don't have someone to cover, ususally they do don't they? I've got mine in ten days! Still not feeling much movement at all tbh so am waiting patiently.
Try and have a good holiday anyway and hopefully they ca book it again soon x

LittlePebble · 23/05/2011 12:06

Morning all! Hope everyone is well - bilblio sorry to hear about your scare - make sure you rest at every available opportunity.
Edward names are a nightmare with DP and I - he doesn't like ANY of the boys names that I like and so if it is a boy (which we think it might be) we're going to have a nightmare. Plus to make it worse he warned me last night that I'm probably going to have nothing but little boys as it runs in his family - so how are we going to name more than one!! Hmm

But - urgent help needed please. I have 2 weddings to go to in the next 2 weeks and cannot find anything to wear. I'm not big enough for maternity stuff quite yet - but every time I try on anything in the shops I just look like a whale! Blush
I'm 5'3" and normally a size 12 - but having to go to a size 14 now to fit in bump and boobs - if anyone has found a wonder dress anywhere please let me know. x

BB3 · 23/05/2011 12:11

Littlepebble and elgoldenflower, hope you are both ok

Dannid, Great for results and relaxing!

Soundofherwings ? Yay for the scan and little girl! We didn?t have the test as they aren?t as reliable for twins. DH was really cross about it but I know it wouldn?t be a deal breaker and if it did show something and DH wanted to do more tests I wouldn?t be able to have the amnio without risking both babies so I was adamant I didn?t want it!

Bilblio so glad it?s ok and you got to hear your little bean. Congrats on being an auntie again

Names we have girls names but no boys (if we have a girl one will definitely be called Edith-May after my grandmother as she is the only twin in our family and the twins are due on her birthday) I will call the baby Ede for short ? we never had boys names for DS either and argued constantly and it?s harder that I have to have lots, two girls, two boys and one of each, all that have to go well together!

Leo4 · 23/05/2011 12:32

EdwardorEric Me and my partner can't agree on baby names..girls are especially hard... I don't like that many so I am completley stuck!

soundofherwings I've had all the screening tests and they didn't pick anything up until the anomoly scan. Isolated talipes is the diagnosis ..although it is a marker for edwards...! I am refusing to have karotyping as it won't change my decision..especially as a specialist thinks I have a lot more chance of having miscarriage than having a baby with edwards..! Anyway the moral to my story is that if they are going to find something they will regardless of the nuchal translucency or bloods ....xxx

Engelsmeisje · 23/05/2011 17:23

Hi all, have been away for a while so haven't managed to catch up on everyone's news yet.

Things are getting exciting now, only 2 weeks til my 20wk scan and we've decided not to find out the sex. Have been feeling flutterings this week as well!

Anyone else finding shopping for maternity clothes a nightmare? Thought the Netherlands was awful and was confident that I'd be able to find loads of stuff in England when I was over last week, but after a day spent walking round Oxford only found one place with a (pitiful) maternity section (Red Herring in Debenhams). Loads of places only do maternity wear through their catalogue or online. Don't pregnant women like to try on clothes as well?! One of the shop assistants in BHS very helpfully advised me just to buy a swimming costume "in a bigger size" (and therefore have my boobs jumping out all over the place!). Spent today wandering round Amsterdam with almost the same result......aren't pregnant women supposed to swim?!

Phew! Okay rant over!

monkeybubbles · 23/05/2011 18:03

hi all,
i've also been reading everything but not posting much lately (too tired to string a sentence together most days!)

i've been super sensitive about any comments about my size, DH calling my maternity leggings (and therefore me) massive, lady at pret saying i didn't look pregnant, colleague saying I look bigger everyday, etc. why do people insist on commenting???

and now the hip pain that was only really bothering me at night has become more persistent and spread to my back and legs as well :(

Engelsmeisje · 23/05/2011 18:14

Just catching up on everything......

Littlepebble, I bought some really nice dresses in Fat Face when I was over in the UK last week, some 3/4 length sleeves and some sleeveless. They're not maternity but I had to go up one size to accommodate my boobs. Empire line so no worries about room for bump.

Am looking at some fancy dresses on the Tiffany Rose website for a wedding we're going to in September, and (may have forgotten to mention this as I've been away so long) my OH proposed a few weeks ago and we'd like to have everything signed and sealed before the baby arrives so have also been looking for a wedding dress (though ams taying away from anything white and virginal!).

bilblio · 23/05/2011 23:15

Hello to the newbies! Welcome aboard. :)

Congratulations Engel! I'd love to give advice on clothes but I struggled enough getting 1 pair of vaguely smart work trousers. I found 4 shops on the retail park with maternity clothes in, but they were all either 100% cotton (I don't iron) or that nasty nylon, that sticks to my hands and makes my skin crawl!

I have spent the weekend totally resting, DH and DD went away, I put my feet up, got out the card making things and watched all the episodes of Glee that I'd missed (which was most of them!) It was great :o

DD today made her first comment about how the baby would get out... I've been waiting for it, especially with my SIL having had her baby now. DD asked the usual "How big is the baby? Is it coming out today?" I said "No, it's still not big enough". She then said "It's got to get bigger and bigger and bigger" (Whilst pointing slowly down towards my feet) "And then it will pop out of your mouth!"
I just replied with "Hmm, right."

She's only 3 so we've decided we'll only explain whatever she asks, and at 7:30 on a Monday morning I'm not going to start putting her right. She's found an answer that suits her and we'll leave it at that :o

Confused2011 · 24/05/2011 09:32

LittlePebble Isabella Oliver has some lovely jersey wrap dresses, many under £100 - once your purchases are in your shopping basket open another tab and click on the link on the Mumsnet Discount Partners page - www.mumsnet.com/Pub?call=com.mumsnet.shopping.DiscountPartnerPage - to get 10% off (although you lose the free delivery offer on the main website). Technically they're maternity dresses, but it's not obvious. Apparently the red colour is a lot more muted than the picture and looks lovely!

Boden also has some sophisticated empire line party dresses on its website - www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Party-Dresses.html - although personally I wouldn't fit into them any more Smile!

Monkeybubbles it sounds as though you may have sciatica - suggest you see midwife or GP ASAP! There are some treatments - mainly physio and acupuncture as far as I know.

BB3 · 24/05/2011 10:00

Engel wow huge congratulations - tell us about your wedding plans and the proposal (I am a sucker for a good wedding)!

Bilblio DS seems completely uninterested in the baby, just my growing bump which last night as he was falling asleep on my tummy he decided to use as a drum whilst singing along Grin Love the thought of baby popping out your mouth!

I find the thought of buying maternity clothes (particularly occasion wear that I am not going to wear again) really frustrating especially as it is do darned expensive!

Scan day today, roll on 1.30... Anxious as hell (probably not helping that I am reading Breaking Dawn for the millionth time and spent all last night dreaming about a half-vampire baby chewing it's way out of my insides Wink!)

BabCNesbitt · 24/05/2011 10:21

Hello to the new bods on board! :)

Heh, BB3, probably best to avoid anything along those lines when pregnant - no watching the Alien films, either! (And I suspect I'll not be getting around to reading "We Need To Talk About Kevin" this summer, either... )

Has anyone else experienced the magic disappearing bump? I was definitely starting to look pregnant over the last couple of weeks, but this week (18 weeks today), I'm back to looking like I've just overdone the beer and cakes. Fortunately we were at the MW on Friday morning and heard the heartbeat, so I know everything's OK in there (no kicks yet), but it'd be nice to actually still fit into the bloomin' maternity leggings I'd bought!

Ugh - first exam tomorrow morning. Must... get... off... computer...

mpops · 24/05/2011 11:06

bilblio, that's funny about your DD! I haven't got other kids but my best friend's DS, who's two-and-a-half, came out with "mpops's baby will come out of her tummy and say 'Hello!'". I might need to get someone there to film the scene if that happens.

LittlePebble · 24/05/2011 13:08

Thanks everyone - I have now ordered 3 dresses - one gorgeous one from tiffany rose and 2 non maternity ones from Boden - hopefully something will make me look gorgeous rather than whale like!

BB3 - good luck for your scan - I've got mine at 10.30 tomorrow and having all sorts of panics aout what could go wrong Blush.

Engel congratulations - tell us how he proposed?! x

Leo4 · 24/05/2011 15:46

BabC Good Luck with your exams ..I know how hard it is with baby brain....xx

BB3 · 24/05/2011 16:04

Hello all

Scan went really well, both babies were still there and very active, being very difficult for the sonographer and they have very long legs!!! They kept having little fights inside and just generally causing some problems for the measurements but we got there in the end and everything looks normal. The sonographer was brilliant as well, really taking the time to show everything to me and being very careful NOT to show me the sex which was great as my resolve was melting as I looked at them. I have anterior and posterior placentas at the moment the top one (which I don't feel much is anterior) and the bottom one posterior and blocking the exit so if that doesn't change I will have to have a C section just after 36 weeks.

Pictures are rubbish as they wouldn't stay still but I don't care they are both fine and dandy! I am really confused about the sex, kept thinking they were both boys in the scan but that just threw me as I was sure before that there was one of each, if not then two girls! [hurrumph - will have to be patient for another few months). Next scan is mid July, then mid August and if I make it that far (which I hope I will) early September. Feel so relieved!

Good luck tomorrow littlepebble
