Aw so glad it all went well BB3! we have decided that we are not going to find out the sex this time, will have to b really strict with myself at the scan tho as I got tempted with ds and ended up finding out at the last min. We have been really struggling with names, DH likes really traditional names whereas I like the more unusual. Took us ages to agree on a name for ds. We were discussing names at dinner last night and ds had us in fits by suggesting that we call the new baby 'plonker'!!! Dont think I'll b adding that one to the list in a rush!!! X

dugsinthestow · 24/05/2011 17:15

Hey All, I've not been on in ages mainly due to dizzy spells and tiredness...Joy! haha!

But, for those of you who plan to express, Babies R Us are doing a whole breast feeding set half price - here's the link. Before I get one, has anyone used this brand already? What else would you recommend?

www.toysrus.co.uk/Babies-R-Us/Feeding/Breast-Feeding/Breast-Pumps/Tommee-Tippee-Closer-To-Nature-Electric-Breast-Pump-Set(0077543)

Or am I just paying for the extras like bottles etc? I already have the Closer to Nature electric sterilser starter kit... HELP Confused

Leo4 · 24/05/2011 17:24

BB3- Glad the babies are fine :)
Dannid- I am so worried I will find out like you did with your DS! As I have had quite a few scans due to talipes (clubfoot) and it means everytime I go I am more inclined to find out what LO is! What makes you think you will be able to 'not find out this time'? have you got more willpower?
Names are so hard arent they? suggestions from my DB and nephew have been sonic, mario, luigi, yogi and peach...wonder where they are getting their ideas from haha!

dannid · 24/05/2011 18:04

Well last time my hubby wanted to know and I didn't which I think is why I caved in at the last min and found out. This time tho we have both said that we want a surprise. Just hoping that neither of us changes our mind nearer the time!!! Yes some of ds's suggested names have been quite amusing and have included all the star wars characters, I'm really not very inclined to call the baby Darth Maul tho! ;-) x

Engelsmeisje · 24/05/2011 18:04

Thanks for reminding me not to re-read Breaking Dawn until after the baby is here - was planning for a re-read before the new film comes out later this year!

Proposal was very unexpected as DP had always said that he didn't feel it was important. We were at the zoo, in the sunshine, relaxing after lunch. It was actually quite funny:

DP: Engels, come over here and sit next to me.
Me: No! You come over here!
DP: I asked you first.
Me: sigh/huff O-kay!

...something like that! Don't have a ring yet, but he'd better hurry up as he's only got 3 months max!

Leo4 · 25/05/2011 00:07

Dannid: Lol at Darth Maul I think I could warm to that!! With the whole sex thing though...me and DP both don't want to know...so even if I have a little wobble DP is there to support me in not finding out...rather than saying go on then!! I really hope I am strong enough to not find out...because if I do I will feel gutted ...but only time will tell! I do think there is no harm in guessing though...ie using old wives tales or chinese charts...all which are a lot of fun!!

Engels: Aww what a sweet subtle proposal ...I think these sorts of proposals are more romantic and meaningful than the big showy ones!

sunface · 25/05/2011 09:49

Hi all, not posted for ages, sorry!!! that's me 21 weeks now and had my 20 wk scan last week (we decided not to find out the sex). Baby was really really active on the screen at the ultrasound, but i'm soooo paranoid as i'm not really feeling much in the way of kicking. i get the odd flutter really low down and one day last week there was a definate kick, but that's been it and it's really inconsistent. This is also my 3rd baby and had thought i'd be feeling more movement by now.........

Leo4 · 25/05/2011 12:06

sunface- Im sure I have read you don't feel consistent movement until 27 weeks when the baby has less room to move..there is plenty of room to hide at the moment xx

rebelwithoutababy · 25/05/2011 12:42

Hi all, congrats on those of you who have had scans, mine is next week and I wish it was sooner!! Am still a bit undecided about finding out sex: DH says he will go with what I decide, and I feel like I want to know more about the LO, but don't want to spoil anything....will it feel like I have missed out on the "It's a boy!/girl!" on the day if I do??!! Help!!

BB3 · 25/05/2011 12:50

Rebel, I have been discussing it with the office today as some just can't believe that I haven't found out and I think it depends on you as a person. Many of the girls here said they didn't feel they could relate to the baby without finding out the sex, whereas I and some others needed the surprise on the day.

BB3 · 25/05/2011 13:03

My DH and I fought a bit (we don't fight all the time despite what it sounds like Grin) over it and he was really glad we didn't find out yet when it came to the day itself, especially because he got his son(!) but we are there again now and he wants to know and I don't and I win because I know he couldn't keep a secret Grin

rebelwithoutababy · 25/05/2011 16:14

Thanks for advice BB3...will have another proper chat with DH xx

CheshireDing · 25/05/2011 18:02

We had our 19 week scan of baby Porge today. Straight away 2 tiny cute little feet showed so clearly with crossed over legs on the scan :) We had decided we didn't want to know the sex and the Sonographer never asked if we wanted to anyway (I have since read that they are not always telling people now due to being sued if it's wrong and people aborting wrong sex babies). I don't know how true this is but honestly these days it wouldn't surprise me.

Anyway one super busy baby, flipping around and kicking and possibly coughing too (something made it jump). It did stare at the screen for a few moments and because you could just see eye sockets it looked like the mask of the Halloween film - very sinister.

After the scan DH and I bought it a couple of unisex coloured outfits and some hats with knots in.

We either spotted testicles or ovaries. Not sure which!

Borisneedsahaircut · 25/05/2011 18:47

Wonderful Cheshire, :) I can't wait until mine next week!

CheshireDing · 25/05/2011 21:50

Ooh forgot to say I have a low lying placenta too apparently :(

I have to have another scan end of August to see if it has moved, if not out of the window goes the home birth and in comes a section (how different could those two things be).

Fingers crossed said placenta buggers off up the side or something.

bilblio · 25/05/2011 22:42

Cheshire - I had a low lying placenta last time. I even had to go and see an anaethetist who told me I absolutely was having a c-section (I think they went overkill on the prep because of my latex allergy.)

Anyway it moved and caused no problems at all. Apparently they do most of the time.
Having the late scan was great though. We didn't get any pictures because DD was too big by that point to get more than bits on the screen, but the sonographer moved the scan around in such a way that you could piece those bits together to make a whole image in your head.
I was amazed when DD arrived that the picture I'd put together in my head via the scan was what she really looked like. :o

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 26/05/2011 10:05

dugsinthestow you can borrow a double breat pump from your HV when you have established BFing they let me keep one last time for 6 weeks by which point i decided expressing wasn't for me. so be careful not to waste too much money.
i had the Tommee tipee manual pump last time and it was agony! and didn't get much milk.
you won't be able to express until feeding is well established so probably about 4 weeks by that time you can decide if you need/want an electric pump.

i had MW app yesterday heard baby's heartbeat for first time really reassuring. cant wait till scan next fri. Grin

Switz · 26/05/2011 10:11

Hi Everyone

Have been lurking on this thread since the beginning and has been a joy to be experiencing being pregnant along with you all.
I thought you?d be the best source to help me with this: at my 16 week appointment by midwife told me to book an appointment with my GP following my 20 week scan (next week). Anyone know what the appointment is for? My midwife although nice is extremely brisk and I was out of her office within 10 mins of arriving and I didn?t grab the opportunity to ask her what the GP appointment was for.

Any ideas?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 26/05/2011 11:16

switz sorry my care is totally midwife led, i only see GP for non pregnancy related things now, but this may be different in different areas.

BB3 · 26/05/2011 12:37

Switz hello, phone the midwife and ask her, do you have a general contact for them?

Everywhere does things differently and in my old doctors I saw GP three times for check ups during pregnancy and since moving only see midwife!

Cheshire snap with low-lying placenta (and one anterior so can't feel the top twin - blasted thing!!) but hopefully it will move and on the plus side you get to see babychesh again soon.

rebelwithoutababy · 26/05/2011 13:15

Switz that is same pattern of care as me: shared with GP and MW as considered low risk pregnancy: think fairly standard (I think I only have to see GP twice though)
"Thumper", as I have now christened LO, is still kicking like mad, and I think had hiccups last night! Am sure must be a boy, as can't see girl kicking that much!
Thoughts please ladies: I had stopped weighing myself at about 10 weeks as was getting stressed about how much weight I was putting on, when all books said you shouldn't gain that much in 1st trimester. I put on about 7-8 pounds as eating was the only way I could avoid MS. Anyway, just out of interest I weighed myself today (nearly 21 weeks) and have only put on about another 3 pounds in past 10 weeks. That's still a total weight gain of nearly a stone, but is that ok? Can't tell from others' reactions as they have been variously: "oh, tiny baby", "wow, massive baby", "you've really blown up in the last couple of weeks", "I didn't even know you were pregnant" and DH far too polite/scared to comment. I was pretty small before as we had just got married, but not sure if this is ok...

BB3 · 26/05/2011 13:23

Rebel, I put on 4 stone with DS (much more than normal), I weighed myself after the birth and had just half a stone to lose, bear in mind DS was tiny (6lb) the weight was water (there was a LOT of it the poor midwife that had to clear it up!). This time, I lost weight in first trimester and now rapidly putting it on - I just figure, best not to worry about it as long as you are not losing too much weight or feeling obese about it, it will all right itself in the end.

BB3 · 26/05/2011 13:23

Sorry, my thought, stop weighing yourself, I have Wink

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 26/05/2011 15:21

i had lost a stone in 1st trimester (but i had enough to lose) and have now put on about 4-5lbs so i'm still about 9-10lbs lighter than i was before falling pregnant.

i agree to stop weighing yourself, it just causes more stress.

LittlePebble · 27/05/2011 11:38

Morning all - scan on Wednesday was amazing and both DP and I managed to hold firm and not find out the sex of the baby, but Tiny was wriggling away and beautiful!

One warning for those of you who do find out - my friend gave birth yesterday to their daughter - they'd prepped everything for her, she was named after the scan and everything was bought ready for the little girl - but she turned out to be a boy - so now they have no name and a lot of pink to get rid of! Shock

One another note - had a bit of a scare this morning - my left nipple started bleeding profusely. I put on my bra and suddenly noticed bright red blood everywhere (TMI warning) and the nipple has cracked in a couple of places. Is this normal??!!! Blush and ouch!
