cossie that is totally rubbish about Ebay (and havng to pay on here) I will have to bookmark cloth nappy tree so baby brain hasnt stolen that info by the time i come to sell.

rocketleaf · 04/05/2011 13:45

I now want a calin blue now, I can justify having one of these as well as a Kari me because it will be sooo hot this summer that baby will bake in the Kari me right? right?

Cosmosis · 04/05/2011 13:46

the motherease wwf etc ones are cute, but not funky like those are!

laurielou · 04/05/2011 14:21

Mac talking of getting EVERYTHING ELSE I think M&P have just delivered EVERYTHING ELSE here! On the good side, at least they delivered. On the bad side I have approximately million boxes of .......... well, stuff. They were not happy at taking the wardrobe, cotbed, chest of drawers & moses basket stand upstairs (2 sets of stairs mwahaha) but I put my best arsey face on & stuck my gut out until they relented.

Rocket I think I'm settling a bit better into ML, especially since I seem to double in size each night now. I've managed not to even check my emails! But it still feels like a bit of a holiday from work, & not facing a whole year & having a baby. Though M&P are doing their best to drag me from De Nile.

macaroonmum · 04/05/2011 14:48

Yey on M&P arrival loz and excellent work at getting men to do heaving up the stairs.

Muser · 04/05/2011 14:57

My plan to use reusables faltered because the microfibre ones I wanted went out of stock and we're out and about so much that carrying reusables just seemed too tiring. And at the moment we are pressed for drying space. I was feeling guilty but then read an article in The Ecologist saying, basically, not to. If we move to a house I may try again. I do still have some Motherease I bought second hand.

KateBob is also still so tiny that she can barely move in washables. Poor shrimp.

owlbooty · 04/05/2011 14:59

I only have the moses basket and a few clothes so far. Owlet can therefore poonami all over them and then will have to wear a bin liner until I manage to do the washing. I haz no nappies. Or pram. Or any of it, really.

Also, I can't believe how expensive these cotton nappy things are. Do they go over the top of the actual nappy? Do you just bung a liner in? Wtfwtfwtf? I need a user manual. I can only cope with old-skool vast nappies that one folds into a kite shape or the disposable ones, not all this newfangled velcro gubbins. What happens if the poo goes into the velcro? Can anyone sense the hysteria rising here? Anyone? Anyone????? Gah. I think I've eaten too much sugar today.

Ivegotmrbitey · 04/05/2011 15:08

Have a look on the nappy lady website, she tells you all you need to know and there is a video!

I am using biodegradable disposables at first and then have a pile of second hand nappies from a friend. I am just going to see how I go as we don't have a tumble dryer so as long as the washing line is feasible I will use them.

Tiny katebob thoughts just made me squee muse Smile

I haven't got a moses basket or cot or anything for biteybach to sleep in. Again these are both going to be second hand (with new matresses) so am waiting on their arrival. Also don't have a pram, a car seat or in fact a suitable car. Or the faintest idea what to do with a baybee.

rocketleaf · 04/05/2011 15:19

BOOTY!!!! deep breathes in this paper bag please. acsherley nappies are cheaper than using disposables over the long term, specially if you can sell them on. But yes initial outlay seems a lot. The velcro is at the front so unless you are very careless or have a VERY unusual baby then poo should not get in the velcro. You can put a disposable liner in them to flush anything erm, solid. and they have much better containment than disposables so should cut down on changing/washing clothes hopefully.

rocketleaf · 04/05/2011 15:20

ha x post there bitey good job i brought a spare paper bag.

Cosmosis · 04/05/2011 15:25

I got mine all from freecycle for free!

I didn?t start using liners until we weaned because milk poo is frankly too runny to warrant them, but now the poos are solid they are great. But we have never ever had a poonami leak or a wee leak and used to get both frequently when using sposies.

I use pampers at night though I have to confess.

LadyGoneGaga · 04/05/2011 15:27

Mine don't have velcro, Booty. I use a Nappy Nippa which hols everything together. You pop a paper liner in which contains the worst of the poo and you flush that away. I second the Napy Lady. Fill in the questionnaire and they send you a personalised recommendation about what EXACTLY you need. I bought everything they said and it saw me through from birth to potty training. And will also do this baby. And don't forget most councils have a money back scheme like £50 towards the cost of cloth nappies.

I often used to use cloth mostly but if away/out all day might use disposables. And i would use disposables for first few days until the meconium has gone away.

Orchid12 · 04/05/2011 15:30

Just to chip in on the poo and velcro front, we did have this issue quite regularly in the early days when poo just seems to go everywhere that you don't quite expect! However, tiny baby poo is runny/liquidy (unlike after they are weaned when it turns more, ahem, adult like) so 'tis not a problem to run under the tap and wash off. If you rub the velcro bits together whilst washing it, you'll find it comes off a treat.

We used disposables for a week or so whilst we got used to our new life, and then switched. They were fine for us, so plan to use them again this time. I have to admit to always having used used disposables at night though. I found I had to change mini O at least once every 3 hours with cloth nappies, but disposables lasted longer if he was just wet. We didn't have a tumble dryer for most of the time we were using cloth nappies. He was born in Sept, so we went into the winter months just drying them on the radiator with the windows open a fraction.

Cosmosis · 04/05/2011 15:34

Ps the poo has never got on the Velcro. It has gone pretty much everywhere else, but not on the Velcro. And tbh, you won?t care! Its amazing how fascinating poo can be when you have a child. I was called upstairs by TGO to look at a poo the other day.

owlbooty · 04/05/2011 15:52

I once had to try and clean a poonami off a chair in the audiology department after it shot out the back of a nappy - this is why I have Teh Fear about just how far and wide a babydump can travel Grin

I am going to calm down and peruse this nappy lady site.

Is it weird to not be at all worried about the birth but rather anxious about the disorganised messy chaos that will greet the baybee when he arrives? Probably not.

MadameBoo · 04/05/2011 16:53

Cosmo you can sell used nappies on here and here.

I had some cheese triangles today. I looked at the box and nearly keeled over laughing!

Ginfox · 04/05/2011 18:31

Wol I am far more anxious about being a Mum than I am about the birth. Mainly because one way or t'other, the baby is coming out, but what happens after that is up to me and Mr Fox. And even though I'm quite grown up, I'm definitely not grown up enough for that responsibility. Gimme that paper bag!

Medee · 04/05/2011 19:11

Cosmo is no-one else has requested it, could I please have What MOthers Do? Thanks muchly.

I still have the thread hippobirthing book ready for its next home, and also the pack of unused disposable pants - surely someone wants them?!

Hurrah BB, sending sticky vibes.

EA did a poonami all over the bed at the ultrasound department, I wasn't impressed!

Truffkin · 04/05/2011 19:41

I am simply delighted with your continuing sickness BB and am (and don't worry, I get the irony here) wish more of the same for you in the coming 5-6 weeks. I'm in agreement though, a slight nausea would be better than exorcist re-enactments several times each day!

I can't wait to start shopping finding out what we'll need to get for the bayble! My Mom wants to get us something and is in the blocks, waiting to get the green light for a knitting frenzy! She's a fabulous knitter and I've already put my order in for soft little cardigans and pram suits with tiny duck / chick / teddy buttons. Huge squee moment coming when I see my first one of those bad boys.

My sister bought reusable nappies but didn't use them at all so I'm hoping she's still got them znd I can have everything I need without any hassle! I'm sure one of the types was called bum genius, which I think was the main attraction for her Grin

Loz how exciting to receive everything else delivered safely, happy playing! I took delivery of new towels and bedding today and am very chuffed so can't imagine the excitement of baby stuff arriving.

I apologise for my exclamation mark over use. I have no excuse, I've no idea what's come over me (!)

Cosmosis · 04/05/2011 20:42

Ooh thanks for sites madame I shall bookmark for when I get off my fat arse get round to selling them. Medee course you can, pm me your address.

redlorry have you unpacked all your exciting boxes yet???

Ocarina · 04/05/2011 23:15

Meds I'd be interested in the hippobirthing if no-one further up the list fancies it. Not so keen on the pants.....

Yay for all the stuff Loz, I can't quite imagine getting to that stage

I'm glad whoever was having M+Ps traumas got it sorted (Bitey? - too lazy to read back) because from our local branch we'd got the impression that they were good on customer service (certainly compared to Mothercare who were a waste of time). TH is always keen on customer service!

I'm sure there were lots of other things I was going to respond to but they've all disappeared out of my head so apologies. Oh, apart from to send sympathy to the puky ones, but be quietly v glad that Barbie's having to deal with symptoms, whilst wishing they weren't such nasty ones. If that makes sense.

Maternity suit got its first outing on Monday once I'd changed the length of the trousers. I'm at that stage where all my mat clothes feel huge, but everything else is too small. I can't quite believe I'm going to grow enough to fit the clothes...

And my cold is improving although breathing when lying down is still a challenge. I'm wondering if I should've come up with a way to measure all the snot - I'm sure it must be pints by now. Delightful. Baby seems happily oblivious and wriggly, and bump is apparently the right size so all is well.

LadyGoneGaga · 05/05/2011 07:58

Might be my last post for a while as we're off to the airport later for 2 weeks in Greece Grin. Although bit Hmm about putting bikini on. Especially since the "pruning of the bush" had to be done completely blind. Grin So I expect to miss a few layings Hmm. So Score, Rocket and Loz think easy, squeezy, sneezy and hope you'll all be cuddling your baybees very soon.

Hope BB and Truff's sickness eases up to manageable proportions soon.

And hope all the intermediate ladies are doing well on the organisation front and everyone feel well and glowy (rather than shit and fat). At least I shall return brown and fat rather than pasty and fat .

Love you all long time.

laurielou · 05/05/2011 08:32

LadyG have a fabulous time, sounds wonderful. I will no doubt still be here, still growing & still ploughing through my M&P boxes when you get home.

Well, we opened the pram & car seat. If the wind was in the right direction you prolly heard Mr Loz being a sweary Mary trying to fit the car seat together. He's still not convinced he's done it correctly, so we're going back to M&P at the weekend for them to check & put his mind at ease. He went into high pitched squeeeee mode at the car seat because it was so cute Hmm. Am I odd - its just a chair. I did however nearly keel over this morning when I caught sight of the pram & car seat - pliz to be passing around the paper bag. As for the boxes containing the furniture, couldn't face them. Mr Loz, love him, is rubbish at DIY, so the furniture is my dad's job. I'll just need to buy him a custard slice before telling him asking nicely for his help......

All this poo talk - wah!

I'm also more worried about being a mum than the birth. Agree, the baby has to come out one way or the other, & there will be medical types to assist. When Bug is safely here, & they tell us we can go home, its just me, Mr Loz & Bug. Where do you start? I feel we may spend the first few days just sitting in silence all staring at each other waiting for someone to make the first move Grin

Ivegotmrbitey · 05/05/2011 09:27
owlbooty · 05/05/2011 10:52

Ooooh GG have a most fabulous holiday missus and lots of delicious greek salads and souvlaki!

Lozza I think I did hear a waft on the breeze of curse words Grin

We ordered pram and carrycot and car seat last night so if the wind drifts in the opposite direction in the near future you will probably hear a lot of swearing in return.

I also have no idea what to do with a child and am crap with small children as I have no idea what to say to them. Pliz to pass me the Official Deli Paper Bag again? Unless Truffs or BB have barfed in it.
