Thanks Hersetta, yes I knew but didn't expect more girls! DH will be truly overwhelmed and out voted!

Heartburn city here too and lots of movements but surprisingly for twins I can't see or feel it on outside so lucky you guys.

Firawla · 06/04/2011 19:41

mornings madness congrats twin girls thats lovely, i didnt realise we had another twins mum in here with mrs stevo

LifeOfKate · 06/04/2011 20:29

Wow, two twin mums, fantastic :o

MrsVidic · 06/04/2011 20:35

Yeah 2 twin mums! MorningsMadness were you expecting twins? I couldn't imageon finding out I was having twins second, are you buying an extra 1 of everything? Or did you throw stuff after dd and having to get 2 sets?

littlemisslozza · 07/04/2011 07:14

Congratulations on all the great scan news, and welcome to MonkeeMummy. I'm expecting my third too, there are quite a few of us on here who are. Wow, morningsmadness, lovely news on the twins!

KLou111 · 07/04/2011 12:50

Congrats on the twin girl news mornings are they identical? You're not the only one now MrsS, you've got someone to share your twin-ness progress with now :)

Well, we went to see some springer spaniel puppies yesterday afternoon (DH shoots), and they were the most beauuuuuuutiful little things. I've never had a puppy, but DH had a springer puppy years ago (he died 3 years ago, he was 13). The dog lived with DH's parents as his brother got a dog and they bonded so the parents were left with both!!
We've got a little jack russell/border terrier who is about 12 (we got him from a home 8 1/2 years ago so not 100% how old he is. He's starting to get really old, and not walking far (lazy sod). So DH had a look the other night at puppies, as hopefully it will boost him a bit and make him walk (he usually walks miles if there are other dogs, almost as if he is making a point!) And if we don't get a puppy now, we will have to wait til long after we have bubba as wouldn't be able to cope with two 'newborns' in the house! There was 8 (7 girls, 1 boy), we're having a girl if we do have one. I said to DH how do we choose, then we both saw 'the one'. She was the runt (the smallest) and she was the most timid little thing, but she was the most gorgeous, so it'll be her if we do get one. They are ready in 2 weeks, but need to make a decision today so no-one else snaps her up! We're 99.9% there with deciding yes, just bit concerned about our dog and her getting on!

Sorry about the long non-baby post, but it kind of is :)

CappuccinoCarrie · 07/04/2011 14:18

Another newborn KLou, you're brave...although I have to say it sounds as if your mind is already made up!!!

Annie456 · 07/04/2011 15:17

Ah KLou, we're having the puppy debate at the moment but we've decided to wait until after the baby is here - we fell in love with a dalmation the other day but have been warned that the first year is pretty tough going with dalmation pups..Also, I don't know what my work situation will be...I really want one though!!

Congratulation to you all on your scans - 6 sleeps until mine :o) Then I have my consultant referral for my low platelets the following day...fingers crossed for both please!!

Got my first craving today...after being totally off chicken for the past 18 weeks, all I want is a big bucket of KFC!!! Grin

MrsChemist · 07/04/2011 15:53

Welcome MonkeeMummy and congratulations on everyones' scans.

My scan is on Monday. I'm nervous. I hope all is well. We'll be finding out the sex as well. DH and I think it'll be a boy, but that could be just because we both think having two boys would be fantastic. Not saying I wouldn't like a girl, it's just I can see myself better with two boys IYKWIM.

As long as the baby is well, then we'll be happy Smile

I've just applied to the Open University. To make things difficult for myself, I've chosen a course that closes in 2014, so I've got to complete it by then. I think I'll have my work cut out for me with a newborn and a toddler.

Anu3 · 07/04/2011 16:07

Welcome Monkeemummy and Congratulations on the twins Morningmadness!! MrsS is going to be very happy to have some 'twin' company here :)

Klou im a little bit jelous that you are going to get a gorgeous puppy!! Ive always wanted one but with DH and me both working all day and us living in a flat its never made sense to get one :(

With the good news of the 20 week scan I also have had some unwlecome symptoms of heart burn!! Its been awful the last week and a bit. I thought i had it because we ate out a lot last week but all off this week Ive been good and only having home cooked meals and yet heart burn is here to stay..

Is there anything i can do to stop it or is this another joy of pregnancy :(

MrsVidic · 07/04/2011 16:29

anu just phone your gp and they'll prescribe an antacid. I'm picking up mine tomorrow! In my experience it's the only thing that works and heartburn gets worse the bigger the baby gets

Anu3 · 07/04/2011 16:38

Thanks Mrsvidic - I didnt realise that we were allowed antacids! But ill get on the phone with the GP right away!!

CappuccinoCarrie · 07/04/2011 16:55

It hadn't occurred that I could ring the surgery and ask for a gaviscon prescription. I'd been putting it off as it seemed such a waste of an appointment to just ask for a prescription, but if the secretary can just ask the doc to write a prescription that would be great....! Hope you get some too anu!
I've found that orange juice gives me terrible heartburn, although I've heard that fresh pineapple is supposed to help it.
annie I've been craving chicken for the last 20 weeks so I'm sure I've had enough for the both of us! Grin Mmmm KFC bucket...we are having roast chicken tonight though :)

MonkeeMummy · 07/04/2011 16:55

Congratulations Klou on the imminent arrival of your puppy - how lovely. We're getting a kitten in July (to keep our older cat company and because we promised our DDs in a weak moment). Would love a dog though.

Thank you Anu for the reminder, I've just added a large bottle of Gaviscon to my weekly shop. I had awful heartburn throughout my previous pregnancies but nothing so far this time round... but am feeling nervous now. The only things that helped (apart from taking Gaviscon after eating) was getting in a hot shower and directing the spray onto my back/chest. I feel for you... heartburn is a real pain - literally.

MrsStevo · 07/04/2011 22:02

Hi all,

I have had a very traumatic week indeed.

Had my 20 week scan on Tuesday afternoon where they found that my twins have twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. One of the babies was really quite poorly, no amniotic fluid around it, not able to move and heart appeared to be struggling. Other baby was swimming around in waaaaay too much fluid and heart / kidneys would have been struggling as well.

I was urgently referred to Birmingham hosp yesterday and met with a specialist consultant yesterday afternoon. He did scan and basically said the best / only option was to have surgery - laser ablation surgery - to laser through the placenta so each baby has their own half. Needless to say, many and varied risks involved - not least was both babies dying - but also waters breaking, early labour, potential cerebral palsy for any survivors.

Long story short, I stayed in overnight and had the surgery this morning. Horrible experience - much like CS, had to have spinal anaesthetic, proper operating theatre with about 15 people in, nil by mouth etc etc. BUT it went as well as it possibly have gone - surgeon was amazing - and we had a scan at 5:30pm which showed that both babies are still alive. Both had heartbeats and the smaller one started to have a bit more fluid around him /her. Obviously fantastic news for today (you can't imagine how much we were dreading the scan and preparing for the worst) but we're by no means out of the woods yet. Apparently the next scan - at 1 week - is the most important as if they're both ok then, then they stand a good chance. But I'm still at risk of waters breaking early now and also early labour.

I'm now back home and feeling very glad to be here - and that I get to sleep in my own bed tonight, but exhausted emotionally and physically :( . Thank god for my DH being a complete darling throughout the whole experience.

Sorry for very self-centred post!! I will read everyone else's news (although have already seen morningsmadness 's news - congratulations!!! and YAY I have a twin buddy!! Hope my news doesn't freak you out - it is VERY rare and only in MCDA twins so if yours aren't, then you'll be fine). I've been signed off for another week so will have plenty of time to catch up on news and will be on here all the time I should think!!

Hope you're all very well x x

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 07/04/2011 22:26

Oh blimey MrsS, don't feel you have to apologise for that post in any way - what a horrendous ordeal for all of you. I am very pleased that the surgery went well and I'm sure we'll all be cheerleading for you and the babies over the next week. Put your feet up and let DH spoil you between now and then.

Yukana · 07/04/2011 23:42

MrsStevo I wish you and the babies the very best, that was quite the horrific experience for you to have had. Rest up and get your DH to do the work. Grin Try and stay as positive as you can, and don't worry too much. Lots of hugs from me.

LadyGoneGaga · 08/04/2011 08:11

Oh MrsS what a horrendous few days Sad. But sounds like the twins are in really good hands and getting the best possible care. Have everything crossed that you can keep them in and growing for a good few more weeks yet. Keep us posted.

MrsChemist · 08/04/2011 08:17

Oh my goodness MrsStevo what an ordeal! Hope everything is well and continues to be so.

Firawla · 08/04/2011 08:27

mrs stevo that must be so worrying for you :( glad the surgery seems to have gone well and hopefully both your babies will be fine and healthy, keep us updated

sisterT · 08/04/2011 08:38

Sending all my love MrsS. Take good care of yourself and keep us all updated. x

littlemisslozza · 08/04/2011 09:00

MrsStevo so sorry to hear what you have been through. Hope that is the end of it now and that your little babies begin to thrive with no further complications. Thinking of you.

MonkeeMummy · 08/04/2011 09:34

Thinking of you Mrs Stevo. Hope you get lots of rest and your babies are thriving now.

alibaba76 · 08/04/2011 09:35

MrsStevo what an experience! Glad it's all gone as well as hoped up till now, and fingers crossed it will continue that way. Thinking of you xx

Annie456 · 08/04/2011 09:40

What a scary time for you MrsS - good that they were able to spot it and react quickly. Fingers tightly crossed that everything goes well from here. xxx
