What possessed me to agreed to a sleepover with four 8 year old girls tonight? Never again! I'm knackered! All they do is scream, argue and cry!
I need to go to bed but they wont sleep!

Selina that sounds like madness. Suggest tent in garden next time!
Thanks everyone for the homebirth thoughts - I'll definitely look at that thread Jenni. Klou barn birth sounds even better. Wish my DH was as nervous about me doing anything - last weekend he had me barrowing gravel around for our drive, and we off to France (doing up a ruin in Brittany) for a couple of weeks next week; he looked at me yesterday and opined that at least I was not too fat for the scaffolding tower yet, so could get on with painting ceilings (barn style, between the beams)... To be fair, I'm pretty robust in my attitudes so probably agree, but every girl likes a bit of TLC!

Hi Ladies and bumps,

All your talk of home births is making me jealous. It was my hope to have this one at home but because of cut backs in the health system there isn't the staff. Last time (3 years ago) there were 6 midwives in the domino scheme; 4 on call and 2 on leave. Now, even though the birth rate here has increased dramatically, there are only 4 with 2 on leave. That is insane! That means that even though the care during your pregnancy is great, there is almost no chance of the midwives that you have built up a relationship with over the last few months being present at the birth. As for home births, you can forget it. They need a minimum of 5 on call to allow that apparently. There is supposedly a grant available to allow you to employ a private midwife but since virtually all of them are based in Dublin (2-3 hours away out of rush hours) that really isn't a real option.
Sigh!
Maybe I'll just stay at home. It would be nice to have a birth without being prodded to death. Only joking, that wouldn't be sensible for me or the babs, but it is a temptation.

SelinaDoula · 15/04/2011 09:44

Survived the night but feel rubbish today an gt to drive 3 hours later. HZad one of them up crying at 1.30 wanting to go home...
Only 2 left now and taking them to holiday club.
FeralGirlCambs Sounds like my DP , we are building a boat, and I think he expects me to do more when I'm pg than before lol
kathpeak have you tried contacting these?

They might be able to help.

Morning all. Hope this morning finds you all feeling well and revelling in your growing bloom :)
Picked names yesterday/last night Grin so as long as dh doesn't change his mind we're good to go on that front. :)

my Moo is ill today which considering how I feel is not the worst, we're watching tv cuddled on the couch with the windows open for a cool breeze. :) If we're up to it later we'll try a walk/park.

Hope you all have wonderful weekends! xx

kathpeak · 15/04/2011 10:35

Thanks for the links SelinaDoula,

I have been in touch with both and they made soothing noises and said wasn't it sad that there weren't enough services in Ireland. If you look at the home birth site the registered private midwives list has a total of 12 midwives for the entire country! And none of them are nearer than 80 miles away. I contacted the nearest ones on my last pregnancy and the responses were either "I don't travel outside the city" or "my books are full for that date range" (I was only 10 weeks gone).
Ireland is a wonderful place but when it comes to facilities for home birth, midwife led care, or even non-medicalised birth, we are waaay behind.

I get so annoyed sometimes. My mother was a midwife's aid in the 1960's in Holland and they had better systems and facilities then. Her job was to attend the mother with the midwife at home and assist with the regular assessments, and take care of the house/children/doorbell so that the mum and midwife could talk undisturbed. During labour, she went with the midwife to assist at the birth and take care of the house and family and stayed in the house for the subsequent couple of days to give the mother and baby time to relax together, teach new mum's the basics of baby care and get feeding established.
Doesn't that sound fantastic?! Maybe my mother inspired me with unrealistic expectations?

Yukana · 16/04/2011 11:28

With all the talk about home births I must say I am adamant for a home birth first time round, but I am also adamant on having a water birth. So I'm stuck!

I'm also thinking of at my next appointment to ask my midwife if I can have another scan on the basis that it's driving my anxiety nutty and it will be good to know the baby's progress, if anything is wrong, the placenta etc. I do think only two scans in 40 weeks is well... a little hard pushed.

No luck on the house front as of yet. We would really like to have a garden, but there doesn't seem to be any within our budget. I won't be able to live here too late into pregnancy though, I struggle to get down the stairs as it is. (We live on the top floor of an apartment building, so the stairs kill me). Plus I've been referred to a physiotherapist as I have something wrong with my pelvis/hips, I keep getting extreme pain that brings me to tears, can't move in certain ways, walking is awkward and/or hurts, etc.
I hope we find a place soon.

nickstermum · 16/04/2011 12:09

No homebirth here. far too risky given the first birth i endured and the medical intervention that LO needed immediately.

Hope you all get the births you wish for x

Annie456 · 16/04/2011 15:57

It should be "pink, blue or WHITE" as there are no newborn clothing options for 'team yellow'....anyone on team yellow been able to find any nice 'newborn' stuff? I don't want to spend a fortune on individual sleepsuits and vests as I'm saving that for when I know the sex but the multipacks are so sex specific it's ridiculous....and added to DH's argument that we should open the envelope!! I'm determined not to though.

We got vests, scratch mits, Booties etc but almost all in White / cream! I'm going to have to send DH out within the first couple of days to buy some colours!!!!

nickstermum · 16/04/2011 17:43

Nope annie, sorely disappointed with what i have seen so far! everythings either pink or blue.... we are team yellow too! There seems to be some nice stuff on blooming marvellous website and jojomamanbebe but its not cheap.

MrsVidic · 16/04/2011 18:07

I would try not to get too much cream as bfeeding poo is bright yellow, yellow or orange are the best colours! I got a few bits unisex from asda last time!

yukana I don't know how easy extra scans are to come get on Nhs but I too would love another, no chance of that round here though. Good luck!

I had dinner with a good friend who has just qualified as a gp yesterday and I was asking her about baby movements, as my dd feels like she's doing summer salts, my friend replied she probably is!

Well it's my birthday tomorrow so I'm looking forward to a lie in! Dp is at the football in wembley today!

I can not believe I am 24 weeks + 2, this pregnancy is flying by!

Firawla · 16/04/2011 19:22

mrs vidic happy bday for 2moro! hope you have a great day

yukana i really hope you get the house thing sorted asap, i really want one with a garden too it would come in so handy for my boys just to be able to let them run around outside to use up their energy etc. i hope the pysio can help with the pain, is it spd? or something else?

annie i think next might have some nice bright unisex stuff maybe? i have seen some yellow and green ones there i think, also saw some on green baby the other day like bright colours unisex stuff. not sure if in multipack though. pumpkin patch also had colourful unisex before, and boots had some things like white with red on and multicoloured.

nickstermum is bloomingmarvellous website back on? i thought they closed down! i will go and have a look, i used to like them

hope everyone and babies are doing well x

littlemissw · 16/04/2011 20:52

Happy birthday for tomorrow MrsVidic

I got some lovely unisex things at reasonable prices from Babies R Us online last time Annie. Ebay & NCT sales are always an option too if you are not too fussed about 2nd hand. They grow so fast, so most things are pretty much new anyway.

wheresmytractor · 16/04/2011 22:33

Hi all,

NOt posted for ages, but been following the thread, congrats to all that have had their scans and glad the podington peas are doing well!

We are very very busy as my husband has got a job in Cornwall (we live in Devon at the moment) and we are moving to Cornwall! ofcourse it all falls at the time of fluffs arrival, although as i am having an elcs it makes it easier to plan. So we are up and down the A30, trying to work out where to live, looking at areas, thinking about schools etc, plus 2 little boys to run around after, im shattered!

ALso having what i think is spd, my buttock seems to go into spasm and have shooting pains down my left leg, it stops me in my tracks. Im supposed to be working till 37 weeks, not sure its going to happen if i carry on like this! Anyone having anything similar?

All those stuck on names, here are my faves: Oscar, George, Alexander, Barnaby, Theo and Jude. Girls on my list (having a girl) Esme, Iris, Erin any other suggestions welcome! I want a name that is not too cutsie, strong and reasonably short and a bit unusual.

Doing a car boot in the morning to shift my boys clothes so off to bed now

x x

Yukana · 16/04/2011 23:35

I'm having the same problem Tractor, amongst other things. My buttocks are constantly tense or cramping, I know I sit a lot which probably doesn't help, but I guess sleeping on my side wouldn't help either. Can't be helped though as you need to during pregnancy! I've been referred to a physiotherapist, I'm not sure what's wrong with me. Getting sore hips/pelvis when I move which is quite painful, tense shoulderblades/lower back and buttocks, with cramp occasionally.

I have no idea what it is being my first time, I thought it may be spd but I'm not sure.

LadyGoneGaga · 17/04/2011 06:03

I've been going to a Chiropractor for pelvic pain and she has been really helpful. Worth it if you can afford it.

Where's my tractor our taste in names is very similar! My girls list is Iris, Esme and Marnie! I think I'm set on Iris though now. I like your boys name list too but some of those we have used up on pets or too many of them at DS's nursery. We really like Frank nn Frankie for a boy but I don't really like Francis as a full name so we are thinking about Franklin.

MrsVidic · 17/04/2011 07:46

wheresmytractor I have SPd quite frequently and sciatica on occasion ( my leg goes numb and I feel like some one has kicked me in my bits)

I have to say that exercising really helps (obviously nothing too strenuous or that hurts). The thing that makes mine really bad is carrying dd and moving without thinking ie getting out of the bath etc

bebemooneedsabreak · 17/04/2011 08:26

Hope you have a lovely birthday mrsV

There's a really good information thread on here abt SPD I've been suffering quite badly for the past 3 weeks... Biggest help not picking up my sturdy 2yo Moo (took awhile to remember) and keeping the knees together as much as possible, and sitting on a stiffer chair. ALSO not going up and downstairs very much and avoiding walking on uneven ground if possible. I also take time during the day to lay down on my side (whether on the couch or in bed) for only 15min now and again and that has helped. From what I've read SPD is more btwn the legs and sciatica is more in the buttocks... (had sciatica with Moo) tho the two can go hand in hand;when you get un-aligned with the spd then it can cause sciatica nerve pinching... hope it does not make life super difficult for you all.

Lots of people seem to be moving! Stressful times, take it easy.

WWYD with the kids/rooms

MonkeeMummy · 17/04/2011 10:49

yukana and tractor the hospital physio gave me a lumbar support that wraps round my hips and bum (under my bump), which really helps with the sciatica. It can take a while to get an appt but if you moan a lot to your midwife they will see you quite quickly. I don't wear it all the time, but some days it really helps with the numbness.

Was feeling smug that I wasn't getting any heartburn this time but no it's here with a vengeance. But having spent a few days worrying about the baby not moving much am just relieved to be feeling more kicks and feeling properly 'pregnant' again. Every cloud... Lead me to the Gaviscon!

Hope everyone's feeling well and it's sunny where you are...

KLou111 · 17/04/2011 10:58

I like Esme Tractor but DH's cousin nicked it, and Esme has just turned 6 (proper little cutie pie) so we're having Ava Jayne (Jane was my late nan). Isla was in the running but DH not too keen.
Boy, we're having Ewan (or Iwan) John (John both Dad's middle names and my 2 grandads first names)

Picking the names seemed to be quite easy this end. We picked them before even trying lol :)

Re the clothes, I've bought loads of multipacks from George, some newborn and some 0-3. Yes they're all white, (except one pack which are beige and cream) but I'm sure baby won't mind, and they were cheap so if they get ruined, it doesn't really matter. S/he won't be in them for long anyway. We'll buy more after bubba comes and we know the flavour. Bought a couple of grobags off ebay (new) too so all set there.

bebemooneedsabreak · 17/04/2011 11:04

Oh yes was going to mention abt clothes:
ebay for neutral stuff if you're ok with used
and H&M for some really cute (imo) new neutral stuff.
All of our stuff for Moo was neutral for the first 3 months and we're saving tons of money this time around because of that! (tbh every stage she grew into we bought a bulk neutral set of pjs/babygros and a few gender specific ones to 'pad' out the sets and so we're really good to go on clothes this time :) )

MrsStevo · 17/04/2011 13:28

Afternoon all! And what a beautiful sun-shining afternoon it is too! Sadly I'm indoors on the sofa with achey-back syndrome (self-diagnosed!) so I'm just looking at the sunshine, will waddle out in a while though.

Vis a vis neutral clothes - if you get a chance to go to an NCT nearly new sale, GO GO GO!! we got loads of neutral (some white, cream, red) stuff there - some of which was brand spanking new in packets - and all of which was ridiculously cheap. I haven't bought anything else yet but a friend has bought ours sets of neutral stuff from asda, which looks lovely and I can't imagine it cost the earth.

Trying to start shifting some of our junk out of what will be the nursery - massive job as it turns out (hence achey back!). But we bought one of those fantastic rocking nursing chair and footstool things which I'm itching to put up just so I can rock about in it in the time before the babies arrive!

Just about over all the trauma of last week now. Got another scan tomorrow to see how they are progressing. Starting to feel some movement now though (although it is very infrequent) so not freaking out too much.

Hope you're all well and Happy Birthday Mrs Vidic - hope you get spoilt rotten!

Firawla · 17/04/2011 15:30

bebe moon i would maybe try them in together at first and if it doesn't work out then atleast you have the option to seperate them, but hopefully it should be fine?
i am going to have my move my 2 in together at some point to free 3rd bedroom for #3, was thinking of doing it before baby is born so they get used to it but at the moment just can't be bothered to think about it and rearrange the furniture etc, especially as we still need to move. not really looking forward to my 2 sharing because the oldest one gets up at night too much and he will probably disturb his bro. trying to train him to stay in his bed at the moment by bribing with thomas tank engines but unfortunately it's not working too well

mrs stevo thats good all new stuff from the nct! i keep meaning to go to a nearly new sale, maybe the next one i will. although tbh i don't really need to buy much but i just want to go and have a look
