HM... Take spatone rather than the iron tabs!!!! They are much less likely to cause constipation - if you take 2 sachets a day in orange juice, it should do the trick.

Cuffy - as far as I recall from last time, from about this stage on, the measurement of the bump approximately tallies with the number of weeks you are, so 27 at 28 weeks is bang on

Lol @ you liking my child rearing theories!!! Sooo many days when I am convinced that they are completely wrong . The main thing I have always tried to do is to follow my heart and my gut - yes, I read all the information out there, but I then tend to file it away in my mind, and do what my instincts tell me. I loved the BabyWhisperer book when DD was born, but only followed the bits that made sense to me... bought the toddler one when she was getting a bit of a handful, but after nodding in agreement about the description of what type of child DD is (she was spot on ), I then started swearing at the book because she started talking complete gibberish - have never looked at it since, and me n DD are poddling along fairly happily! I was swayed a lot by friends last time - which I think most first time mums are (not meant in a condesending way, just fact - everything is completely new, so you follow all advice you're given more easily than following your heart)... this time round, even though I'm gonna be a first time mum of two, the actual baby bit I hope to have more conviction to do what i feel is best. I will probably be following everyone else's advice for how to look after 2 though

Sorry, long ramble there about nothing much!!!

I'm tired and fed up today - B has been a nightmare at bedtime for the past few nights, and she used to be a star She's suddenly decided that she's scared of the dark, which is making things hard work too. She's got a cold, she's clingy, and I just wanna curl up in a ball and hide away from the world. Hopefully going into school today to discuss her starting nursery after Easter - I know that that is a Christmas and a labour away, but it is a light at the end of the tunnel!!! I love her dearly, but I am feeling so squashed at the moment. I've forgotten how to talk to grown ups about anything other than children and nappies

flamesparrow · 10/11/2005 09:22

Ixel - What is it with the midwives at the moment?!?! Mine better be polite or I'll cry at her .

Chloe55 · 10/11/2005 09:34

The cheeky cow Ixel!

Flame if it's any consolation i am having to console DH who is having nightmares (and he is 28!) Bless him He has creepy ones though about people coming into the house and standing over us while we sleep - freaks me out because he says they are so real, wonder if it's ghosts?

Jasnem · 10/11/2005 10:41

Hi, I've been up since 6, too. Why can't men get up quietly? Or without turning on the light? DP had alarm clocks going off from 5.30, and didn't get up for another hour, so I'm pretty tired now. At least I don't have to work though. Plan on doing nothing at all today

Ixel - how can m/w be so insensitive - I really thought they should know better.
I also had the same thing with Tescos - loads the first time then nothing for the second. I'm thinking it's because DD1 was still a baby herself. I've joined again as they are both bigger now. Let you know if I get anything.

HM you could also try Sytron (syrup) instead of iron tabs. They are more likely to cause diarrhoea than constipation, But I've been taking it since my 1st blood tests without problems.

Chloe55 · 10/11/2005 13:15

Jesus - TicTac must still be on the toilet!!!

Tabs · 10/11/2005 13:16

Whoosh whoosh, trickle trickle .
She wouldn't have been silly enough to go back to work today would she?

3k · 10/11/2005 13:25

Hi All,

My day is going ok so far - boss popped out for a few hours so hoping for a bit of peace and quiet.

Re midwives - mine nicely pointed out I was getting stretchies last time which really peed me off as they were old ones I've had since a teen. I have grown 3 since though. Oh and I measured 28cm on Tuesday and I'm 28 weeks today so that's pretty good.

As for freebies, if you go on www.netfreestuff.co.uk there is a section on there where you can get free baby stuff and loads of other free samples. It doesnt change a lot but you can at least get what is available.

Mam UK give away free dummies and soothers go to www.mamuk.com and click on free offers. Get all your mates to do it too - I've got loads!!

Pampers and Huggies give away nappy vouchers.

www.naturalbabycompany.com for a free sample of their nappies

I will have more if I think about it - I've had lots of free samples but most are from netfreestuff so get yourselves on there and dont forget to apply for things at your parents address etc!!

3k · 10/11/2005 13:29

Here's another site www.babyfreestuff.co.uk/

Tabs · 10/11/2005 13:36

Thanks 3k. Haven't checked them out yet, but thought I'd turn your recommendations into links to make life easier for everyone.

Nice One

Thanks 3k and Tabs. This will keep me busy for the rest of the day!

Morgan · 10/11/2005 14:04

Hi all,

Frizbe, that's interesting re the medela electric pump as last time i hired the electric one from the hospital as ds was five weeks early and i used it for six months. I have been finding out if you can hire pumps in Dubai (as we are moving in Dec) and someone else recommended the medela so i think i will get one of those. I will be following Gina Ford this time in the hope that i might get some evenings to myself and dh from quite early on and you have to express to do that.

I breastfed for a year last time and after the initial diificulties with all the expressing etc found it great - although i didn't have to go to work and it didn't hurt at all ever and i had loads of milk because of all the expressing i think. I know there's been millions of threads re Gina but i really recommend her "method" as it got my ds into a routine at four months and he slept in the day until he was 3 1/4 and sleeps really well at night too. I want to do the routine earlier this time if poss to avoid the evening feeding.

Re the birth i would advocate not having too fixed views on what you think you want. I have a blood condition that means i just have to do as i am told by the medical profession and had a vaginal birth with gas and air only and a few stitches but nothing too drastic. My view was that i wanted to do with as little intervention as possible but i knew that that may no be possible so had to keep an open mind.

Sorry this is all rather long!

Tabs · 10/11/2005 14:10

Hey Morgan - hopefully I've caught you still around - am waiting for you to CAT me so that we can arrange a meet up with popadopolis in the near future!

3k · 10/11/2005 14:17

Thanks for putting those into links for me Tabs. I will have a think later on and see if there are any others I can think of. My friend was bored at work this morning and sent me the natural baby one which I have phoned up and requested.

4blue1pink · 10/11/2005 15:07

Hotmama i breatfed last two big babys for a year each thanks to amedea breastpump which i hired once from boots once nct. it did cost - like 30 pounds a month but i was secure in always having enough milk - gallons of it and loads stored. If baby slept through a feed i could pump a bottle easily and painlessly and not worry my supply was dwindling. I did get a bit hooked but after feeding dd for only 8 weeks due to empty boobs (!) This pump really worked for me ( and dp as he did a lot of night feeds!)

TheOriginalTicTac · 10/11/2005 15:34

Hi all...Yes, I was stupid enough to go back to work today though. I managed a full 4 hours! And I think 1 of them was spent in the loo!!!!

cough cough, wee wee....still at it

Morgan · 10/11/2005 15:41

Hi Tabs , sorry i didn't realise you were waiting on me. I will do that now.

TheOriginalTicTac · 10/11/2005 15:42

Oh and if any of you want a little reminder of we where all like in early pregnancy, go take a look at the Due July '06 thread. I can't believe they are up to July already but I somehow feel warm and fuzzy knowing that phase is well behind me

Cough, Cough, Wee, Wee

Frizbe · 10/11/2005 19:49

crikey a due July thread eh! we're winging our way along!!
Lol at Chloe, have fun inserting that ball up dh's backside!
Tabs your friend is fab, oh how I hope for a quick labour like that, with no rips or tearing....
You've all been very chatty again today I must say! took ages to flick through all the posts! we must be due a new thread soon??
Well I rang doc's today and they can't get me in a midwifes next week, has to be week after, they told me to ring midwife re missed apptmt as well, as if I need any important bloods etc, she'll have to try and fit me in next week so I rang and got an answer message telling me to text! so I've text'd and awaiting a reply.....oopse....

flamesparrow · 10/11/2005 20:24

pmsl - This thread's only been going 16 days!!!!

DD's up in her room... still yelling every now and then, but DH has gone out, and I find it easier to ignore her when I'm alone

I'm still aching loads - roll on Tuesday when I can see the midwife! I want a clear yes or no for SPD before I call chiropractor or anything, I also want her go ahead before I do the aquanatal - I don't want to go thinking I'm doing the right thing by exercising, and then be told I've made it worse.

cuffyj1 · 10/11/2005 22:49

Hi everyone,

Been for gtt today but hospital not rang with results like they said they were gonna (typical)

Frizbe - My midwife has that message on her fone too if it's switched off because apparantly people are not allowed to leave voice messages for some stupid reason.

Tabs & 3k - thanks for the free stuff links.

Frizbe · 11/11/2005 01:26

crikey is that all FS! well I'm on here at eeek o'clock, because I've been woken by nice pains in bump.....lots of kicking etc going off as well, but horrible intermittant cramping too, hoping it'll stop soon so I can get back to sleep....

Chloe55 · 11/11/2005 08:41

Morning girls,

Thanks for all the freebie links.

Soz to see you were up at an unearthly hour last night Frizbe, I was awake at a similar time with DH still having nightmares, feel a bit sorry for him because he sounds petrified in his sleep and all I can do is wake him up and comfort him, well I guess it prepares me for when my little one will get night terrors - oh, was also up three more times going for a wee (must be in sympathy with you TicTac!)

Chloe55 · 11/11/2005 08:42

Any news from SpaceCadet anyone?

flamesparrow · 11/11/2005 09:25

How are yo doing now Frizbe?

I'm sorry to hear that your DH is still getting nightmares Chloe - I've had terrible ones for as long as I can remember (they normally come in clusters when I am very stressed/worried). Rescue Remedy before bed helps, also no tv/computer for at least an hour - reading is ok as long as it is something gentle.

I had a very weird dream last night... I had 4 tattoos on my arm, only about 1cm each - 2 ladybirds, and 2 frogs. I didn't remember getting them, and I was calling all these people from my past to try and establish when I got them and why!!! I asked my mum and she really yelled at me for a) getting the tattoos, and b) obviously being drunk at the time if I couldn't remember doing it!!! They were very pretty though... like little colourful freckles

Much better mood today (no idea why)... DD went to bed much better last night, so maybe that was it. I vaguely remember kicking DH in the middle of the night to go and see to her - I think it was probably my turn, but my body wouldn't work, my brain was thinking "Child crying, fix it", and my body went with "Nope, stayin here"

teuch · 11/11/2005 10:01

hullo - thanks for the freeby links, have now followed up and joined tesco, etc...don't like to miss out, me!

For others using (or used in past) breast pads - I got Tommee Tippee ones from boots but they seem to leave my nipples damp and white (like your fingers and toes after swimming too long!) which I don't like...do they all do that or should I just bite the bullet and buy another box from another brand?

Nauseous again today, and gassy tummy which is really uncomfortable...sharp pains at top of bump, moving down to the right, then the left, then up my bum!! ooohhhh!
