Will I get better?

While you are pregnant there is nothing anyone can do to tighten up the ligaments. Some people have reported results from osteopathy, reflexology or acupuncture. However, after the birth the body stops producing the hormone, so the ligaments tighten up and the symptoms gradually disappear, but unfortunately some women will carry on suffering from SPD long after birth. The most important things to remember is not to aggravate the condition, keeps your knees together, don?t lift anything too heavy, don?t lift younger children, don't stand on one leg, sit down to dress... all things basically that keep your knees together and weight off your legs..."

Hmmm... I'm not going to be being fixed then "Don't pick up younger children"

Jasnem · 03/11/2005 17:02

Flame, Tabs, Chloe,
I really hope its not SPD for any of you. Never had it myself, but have friends who have and if you don't protect yourselves, the pain will force you off your feet completely.

REST as much as you can, just in case.

Tabs · 03/11/2005 17:06

I really hope it isn't. Will put paid to my yoga and active birth if it is. Let's hope that none of us have it and we all feel wonderful tomorrow!

Chloe55 · 04/11/2005 08:25

Morning girls,

Well another sleepless night for me but I have to say I am in a much better mood - could it be that Friday feeling? .

Showed DH the write-up on SPD and he agreed that the symptoms matched mine but also commented that I wasn't a doctor and stop diagnosing! Strangely enough yesterday the pain was much more bearable and it doesn't hurt when I am sat so I'm hoping, like you suggest Jasnem, with lots of rest I should be ok.

flamesparrow · 04/11/2005 08:46

I'm hurting a lot less today (left aquanatal - there was no way I was up to driving there!!!). DH is going with the theory of treating it like SPD and resting lots, and ask the midwife next time I see her... I was gonna do that anyway, but I'll let him think its his idea .

Very odd dreams the last few nights!! Weds night I was completely in love with one of my friends in it - I've always joked with DH that if he ever leaves me, then me n B are gonna marry James instead, but it was a very odd dream. No rudeness, so I can still look him in the eye . And last night, I dreamt that I was in labour - my waters had gone, and I was driving round to take my mind off it. I was full term, so just an odd dream, not a scary one.

Oooh, today is my magical day - I am finally 24 weeks!

Tabs · 04/11/2005 09:02

Morning girls - haven't decided if I'm in pain today yet or not! Need to wake up a bit more first, which I might manage after some breakfast and a bath. Glad to hear that you are both feeling brighter though Chloe and flame.

I had some odd dreams earlier in the week. Think one was caused by HappyMerryBerries' new posting name - MartianBishop, as I definitely remember waking up and thinking that a martian bishop had been in my dream!!

TheOriginalTicTac · 04/11/2005 09:03

Flame - happy 24 week anniversary

I dreamt I had given birth last night. The labour was very easy and she was just gorgeous! We where trying to fit her into our environment and everything was going well!

Is that wishful thinking?!?!

Chloe55 · 04/11/2005 09:04

Dreams are so vivid at the mo aren't they Flame! LOL at still being able to look your mate in the eye as it wasn't sexual, must admit I had one about a guy at work - who I don't fancy - but just couldn't look at him for weeks!! I also dreamt I had the baby a few nights ago but I had him now, he was fine though and came home with me the following day which was all a bit weird.

Congrats on the 24 week mark, it's a bit of a relief, isn't it?

flamesparrow · 04/11/2005 09:06

Oh thats who MartianBishop is!!! Why the change???

Tabs · 04/11/2005 09:09

Think it had something to do with a thread on scientology, and there was some story about a martian bishop which quite tickled her, and she loved the name, so decided to use it!

ixel · 04/11/2005 09:30

I had a lovely dream last night... about a man I'd seen in Ikea yesterday! Thats only fair though, as I had loads of bad dreams in the early stages, so I deserve a few nice ones
Cant believe ds has been to Ikea 2 days in a row... by choice. Gave him the option of there or playgroup, and he chose there!! He had a great time completely rearranging all the displays and eating the shiny things off the xmas trees in the sets!

flamesparrow · 04/11/2005 09:31

lol - DD has been asking to go to "shopsth" for 3 days now!!!

Baby has just turned round, and scared the life out of me by kicking up high rather than low!! Not jumped that much in aaaaages!

Jasnem · 04/11/2005 10:36

morning,

I hope you are feeling better today. I thought about it last night and I did get pain very similar to what you have described a couple of weeks ago, but it cleared up when I rested more. I hope the same happens for all of you.

I spent last night with my feet in a bowl of hot water, which seems to have helped a bit, and I've got another easy day today, so I actually feel pretty good at the moment. Long may it last.

thell · 04/11/2005 11:12

Good morning.

Much sympathy for those with SPD related pains. I think the aching I've bneen getting in my lower back is related, ie all about the bendy ligaments, but luckily so far it's not stopping me from doing anything - especially since I took away that pillow and am now sleeping flatter. Terribly nice with the pregnant runny nose thing!

The packing boxes arrived this morning, so at least I have something positive to spend my day doing (instead of surfing eBay for baby clothes! (Just bought a job-lot of 31 vests! Good job I've got my sister to share them with!). Also have the boring task of sending reports back and forth to try to get some money out of our vendor - and then we can finally exchange contracts.

I JUST WANT TO MOVE IN AND PAINT MY NURSERY!

Flame - big for wee flame! When I first started working in a Day Care Nursery I would get very overexcited whenever a child made a developmental step... and I still get a kick out of it now! So lovely.

Frizbe · 04/11/2005 16:25

Hi all, Ixel a born shopper eh marvelous!

FS lol at your dreams and hurrah on the 24 weeks, I shall be joining you on Sunday!

Tabs lol at your dreams as well, looks like the scientologists are getting to you via alternative means

and Tic Tac and Chloe as well! coor, I must be the only one not having any dreams at the mo?!

Well bit miffed this afternoon, as our house is relativly new (4yrs old now), but the front door has recently warped, and there are bits starting to fall off the windows, a bit of grouting needs doing etc etc.......so I rang NHBC who said only grouting covered, but has to be over £680 worth, which I don't think it is (Yet!) so can't get that done, doors n windows not covered unless there is water inbetween the double glazing.....they suggested I ring the developers, who would tell me if still guranteed by the fitting co, and guess what, yep the fitting co have gone out of business, not * surprised considering the state of their items......grrrrr....will now have to pay for new door and asstd bits to be done on windows etc......pah!

Chloe55 · 04/11/2005 16:53

YEAHHHHHHHH It's Friday!! Have a good weekend girls, talk to you all again on Monday .

flamesparrow · 04/11/2005 20:18

Just quickie... I got over the bump trousers

Tabs · 05/11/2005 10:01

Hurrah flame! Where from, and did you notice what size they go up to, in case I want some more?

Was fairly quiet on here yesterday wasn't it? I had friends from NCT class round for lunch, and then went out for dinner with other friends last night. A very sociable day, but was absolutely knackered (and far too full!) by the end of it. I couldn't even find the strength to push open the car door when we got home, so DH had to do it for me!!

Anyone doing anything exciting for bonfire night? Our village pub had a fantastic display last year, so we're going there again tonight and hoping it will be as good. Having friends round for dinner first, and hoping to try out my Mountain Buggy with their 18month old if he'll oblige .

Frizbe - that's pants with your builders! We had similar problem with damp proof course in our last house. Not quite the same issue as building was 300 yrs old (!!), but had been converted to flats and company who did useless damp proof course had gone out of business by the time we wanted to claim on the guarantee. Will always make sure that guarantees are insurance backed in future (whereby the supplier pays insurance to cover cost of repairs if they go out of business before claim).

Thell - 31 vests . Think you could do with at least twin sisters to share that many with!!

Jasnem - encouraging to hear that your pains eased the other week. Mine certainly haven't got any worse, so hoping that's a good sign!

Hope everyone's having a good weekend. Off for a bath now.

flamesparrow · 05/11/2005 10:18

31 vests does sound a lot, but when you think... 15, and if you have a sicky baby, you will be going through a couple a day, tis not all that many

How many people have I terrified with the thought of newborn washing now????

The trousers were H&M they had LOADS of different styles, all over the bump. I wanted the ones with the glittery bum, but they were too small or toolarge

Sizes.. hard to say - I am normally about a 13 (large 12 or small 14), but they only do S,M,L,XL... apparantly I am a L The M fitted in some styles, but not if I dare to put on any weight on my bum . XL looked HUGE though.

We did fireworks last night - B was scared of bangs, then realised that they made pretty colours, so was happy . She then had piles of candyfloss and went to sleep at my mums (Mwahahaha ).

Not aching today yet, so YAY!!!

xxx

Jasnem · 05/11/2005 14:20

Afternoon all,
looks like it's going to be another quiet day today.

I hope everone is still feeling a bit better, and getting lots of rest.

Don't know what we're doing tonight yet. My kids are no longer impressed by fireworks - we go to Geneva in the summer holidays (my brother lives there) and they have the biggest display I've ever seen in the city. It can go on for an hour, and must cost a fortune. All the businesses etc have to turn off their lights while its on, and its timed to music. Anything we can offer now is not that exciting.
I'm hoping a bonfire (no-one has them any more) some food and a few friends will be enough.

H&M -definitely the best high street shop for marenity. Everywhere else seems to think you want to pay a fortune for something that looks like you're wearing your old man's clothes. I can do that for free!

Hi all, glad your all ok

FS H&M right, off there soon then! I have over bump tracky bottms from mothercare, but could do with another pair of trousers!

Tabs thanks for that, I'll remember to ensure that happens in future!

Not sure what we're doing tonight, toying with the idea of Gullivers Kingdoms display, but if it rains, we'll stay in and watch everyone elses from our house!

Tabs · 06/11/2005 11:46

Morning ladies. Hope you're all having a good weekend.

3K - did you have your GTT on Friday - how did it go?

Well our buggy seemed to be a success with our 18month old godson. He was too busy running around and transfixed by the fireworks initially, but once he'd worn himself out he was quite content sitting in it, and I got to wheel him across the village back to the car. Was nice and easy to push etc, so quite happy. A few 'regulars' who know I'm expecting saw me pushing him and joked that he was huge and did it hurt .

thell · 06/11/2005 15:38

Afternoon ladies - just popping in to catch up.
Flame, thanks for reassuring me on the vests! I don't think they're all newborn size, so it's not as bad as it sounds.
Tabs, it's useful to know about the insurance thing - believe it or not our solicitor has discovered that the company responsible for the damp proof course at our new house has 'disappeared,' so 25 yr guarantee is worth nothing. Luckily the extra survey we did has shown no current problems.

My over-the-bump jeans (the ones with the huge band of elastic, right?) are from Next, and really good. Their tops were a bit hit and miss, but jeans start from only £21. Tried to investigate H&M this week, but the huge Oxford Circus store didn't seem to have a maternity section. But I did buy a lovely coat It may not fit me for very much longer, but I don't care!

We went to the bonfire procession at Lewes last night. It was FAB, although it was a bit of a struggle to find a spot where we could see anything. We got there in the end. Very smoky with loud firecrackers going off in the street, so very glad we did it this year before we have kids who are too young to take with us. Still, we chickened out of hanging around for the bonfires and fireworks. They didn't start until well after 10, by which time I was already exhausted from hoiking up and down the hills!

Hope you've all had a fun weekend.
x

Frizbe · 07/11/2005 08:52

oooh Thell that sounds lovely, we didn't go out to bonfire as dd declared she was scared! (only just two, v proud mummy moment re her articulation!) so we watched lots instead from inside the house.
What a weekend, freezer part of fridge freezer has packed up! and the dishwasher threw a paddy and emptied all over the kitchen as well.....freezer will need to be a new one......dishwasher will be investigated, hoping just a blockage somewhere, rather than the circuit board........
Had a fab row with dh yesterday about me feeling like a single parent as well! (hormones? or just him ignoring us too much?!) he made up for it by leaving his computer and taking us out for dinner (hurrah!)
Hope you all had good weekends.
