Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Katiebeau · 23/03/2011 15:19

Hello, I am planning on sticking around:)

Has anyone else got "virtigo". I had this less with DD but this time I seems to have a moving sofa/moving "stationary" car etc. It's horrid. I feel so sick those days too. GP was lovely. Vomiting centre of the brain is connected to the middle ear and so rather than been sick I just imagine I'm moving!!!!!!!!! Confused

Katiebeau · 23/03/2011 15:34

Truffkin don't take OTC antihistamines during pregnancy. The modern ones have either no data in pregnancy (part of their OTC licence is they are not used in pregnancy) or they are possibly linked to issues for the baby. Piriton is supposed to be safe after the 1st trimester. I stressed about this in my 1st pregnancy as I have horrid allergies too(nose and skin) but during pregnancy as the immune system is suppressed the allergic response is too. They didn't come back after DD 2 years ago!!!

rightontime · 23/03/2011 15:39

Truffkin That is very naughty of your GP. I asked mine for antihistamines at my appt and she said oh I check the book to see if they are ok. Cue 10minutes flicking pages. She eventually discovered that although no ill effects where known almost all manufacturers recommend that you DON'T take your pregnancy just in case. So I was given the tablets just in case but also given eye drops to see if I could manage with those instead. In fact I think I might even send I email to the practice manager if I were you as that is unacceptable.

Sorry I can't remember names of all the new ladies. Welcome and congrats to you all. And yay we have nearly reached the end of november with due dates. Very exciting.

I am still waiting for my MW and scan appt to be sent through. I too will be fighting for a mobile labour this time. Last time was forced to stay on my back with the monitor attached which was soooo painful as it was squashing my belly and the couldn't even find the heartbeat with it. What a waste of time.

I have been feeling sick sick sick. My SIL has recommended travel sickness bands so I will be giving them a try. Off to order from ebay now. Feeling a little faint too but I think that is purely down to lack of eating/keeping anything down.

Sorry for the long post. Its been a while.

cep · 23/03/2011 15:55

afternoon all,

please forgive me for not mentioning all names, brain not working today.

someone said they had brown on wipe brown is old and ok.

fainting i think is normal cause you're blood pressure goes all over the place as does your temperature.

ooooh ritz biscuits..

escape fx for scan.

LittleWhiteWolf · 23/03/2011 16:03

Good afternoon all. Had my drs appt last friday and he was lovely and excited about it, which was nice Grin
Should get my scan date through the post at some point and have my mw booking appt on the 5th of April. Am glad on the one hand as its a Tuesday so DD will be at nursery as I don't fancy having to wait with her (our mws are often very very late!) or having her sit through the whole appt as my one for her lasted 50 minutes, but on the other hand it is one of my work days so I will have to leave work to attend. Still, my hands are tied--they only do booking appts on Tuesdays. Havent mentioned to my boss yet; will do that Monday.

Am feeling very fat and very hungry which makes me feel sick. Will have to start stock piling ginger biscuits--they worked wonders for me last time!

Hope everyone is well!

dirgeinvegas · 23/03/2011 16:56

escapeartist looking put for your scan update! Hope all goes well Smile

Hollibobs · 23/03/2011 17:02

Hi everyone,
Never seem to get time to go on here so while I'm (at work) and on my own thought I'd give a bit of an update. I'm about 6 1/2 weeks pregnant now and waiting for my mw appointment but still have hardly any symptoms so took another test last night just to convince myself it was actaully happening and it was the darkest red line so far like it was shouting at me 'you are pregnant!' :)
xx

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 23/03/2011 17:11

Blinkin' 'eck you gals talk alot!!! Grin

I have looked into a doula and in our area all the ones I can find are in training (doesn't bother me) and cannot charge more than £200. For that you get unlimited email/phone support and about 2 or 3 meetings, then they are on call 24/7 from 37 weeks and will stay with you frm the time you call them to the birth! They will also help with bf and come to see you post-natal. Bargain!

I have my booking appt on the 18 April ( truffkin am Shock at your GP's attitude. Btw, go for midwife led centre if you can. We don;t have any near me :()

As I don't get offered a nuchal scan on the NHS and I don't want to wait till 16 weeks for the blood test, we've booked a private nuchal scan at 12+3
HERE
£169 includes all tests and a 4D scan! It's on Saturday 7 May, so probably will be before my NHS dating scan.

More good news - last time I was referred immediately to consultant-led care. this time, it'll be midwife -led as I kicked up such a fuss. This means much less medical intervention from day 1, which I am happier with.

Oh and whoever mentioned feeling travel sick - that is me all over. Boots have stopped selling sea sickness bands though - where do you find them?

And fainting is definately bp and your body adjusting. If it's a one off I wouldn't worry. HTH

Must dash DD back from nursery.

chipmonkey · 23/03/2011 18:04

Seasickness bands was how work twigged about my last pregnancy! So I avoided them this time but now, thanks to my weekend scare, they all know anyway! Never worked for me anyway. I got them in a regular pharmacy rather than Boots.

busyboysmum · 23/03/2011 18:07

So excited - got my pack today through the post with my medical notes to fill in and there is a new option in our local hospital. It's midwife led centre which is attached to the hospital, there are 10 brand new rooms all with birthing pools, low lighting, music, bars on the wall to hang on (!) there's a kitchen - honestly I am so excited me and hubby were thinking of checking in now and living there, sounds lovely!! Am definitely booking myself in there - I have always wanted a water birth but it wasn't an option with my other 2 births.

Other than that, I have been sussed at work already (humiliating) my pants are too tight already, feeling a bit off but nothing I can't handle, my other two pregnancies were the same. I just bloom out of my clothes and can't stop eating!! In maternity stuff already just for comfort.

I got my old pram out of the loft and washed it all in our washing machine and it has come up lovely - it's a Jane Carrera with the matrix lie flat car seat, my youngest slept in it at night in preference to the moses basket so it was absolutely a great pram.

Oh it's all so exciting - welcome to all the new ladies

Smile

Just back from scan!
It was a bit anti-climactic, a quick scan through, very excited (cried) to see sac, pole and we heard the little HEARTBEAT!!! In fact the dr pointed at something on the picture (which didn't look like much) and it was pulsing in time with the beat (partly as I kept asking if that was my hb we could here, or the bean's).
But the dr gave me a list of do's and don't's and was generally not all that excited (i don't know why she would be, she prob sees it 10 times a week) and then a list of tests to do.
Excited!!! A bit scared! Very relieved. Have to go do some bloods tomorrow, HCG as well as others, to check levels.
Thanks for all the concerned finger crossing - you ladies are fab!

cep · 23/03/2011 19:37

escape that's great news. so pleased for a great scan. Grin

TerrysNo2 · 23/03/2011 19:41

busyboysmum, that birthing centre sounds awesome!EnvyEnvyEnvy I would love to be able to have a natural birth.

ochaye · 23/03/2011 19:57

I'm not going to go on like I normally do when I eventually catch up with you! I just want to say WOW to all the brilliant scan news ... and especially to chipmonkey who made my day with the turn around news.

Also welcome back knockedupagain - I was wondering where you were!

So glad your scan was so good escape ... on another note altogether ... where did you row? I've been into rowing for a loooooooong time. Am more into coaching and umpiring now with small kids but still love to get out in boats when I can.

WuzzAndBuddy · 23/03/2011 21:08

Just came on to check the news before bed.

Escape that is fab news, really pleased for you Grin

DS has totally worn me out today, and we ended up in pizza hut for dinner, bleugh, still feel sick just thinking about it, was no where near as delicious as I wanted it to be....

Will stick to the moussaka.

chipmonkey · 23/03/2011 21:11

We had pizza for dinner here today. Actually wasn't too bad but was heaving at the thought beforehand. Pregnancy puts me off so many foods when it's not the actual food that causes the problem.

Piplysmelie · 23/03/2011 21:53

Congratulations on the good scan news.

Mrs An have you thought about Hypnobirthing. I know it sounds a bit out there but after my DD1's birth - absolutely terrible experience. I won't eleborate but decided with DD2 I would try something different. I did the Hypnobirthing course practiced at home with DH and had a planned home waterbirth. Labour was under 5 hours, midwife never touched me (I made her sit on her handsWink and caught my DD myself. Absolutely wonderful - I can not recommend Hypnobirthing enough.

look here

busyboysmum which hospital is that sounds wonderful

Feel awful today, very very tired I also have a cold and DH is away working and not back till friday.

Off to bed after a Brew

Woodifer · 23/03/2011 22:05

get well soon piply xx

busyboysmum · 23/03/2011 22:08

Hi Piplysmelie it's Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester, I had my second ds there and they were great but I was strapped to a bed for the whole time (luckily he was a super baby and just popped himself out with no fuss) and I have always wanted to have a water birth so I am really excited to see it is now available for me at last.

escapeartist · 24/03/2011 02:19

Thanks for all the wishes - it is all slowly sinking in (first baby and all)
You guys talking about birthing plans are worrying me a bit Confused but I am sure when the time comes to start thinking about it all your advice and experiences will be priceless! At this stage DH and I are discussing options re staying put or coming back to the UK for giving birth. It would make sense in many ways (passports, support, financially etc etc) but don't currently have a house or a GP in the UK so not sure how it would work.

[Piplysmelie] your experience sounds lovely. Now you got me thinking... Hmm

[ochaye] i rowed at school, then Oxford, then briefly for my national team before I decided to get a life (and so started triathlon, which is were I met my DH)

(btw, have insomnia, coupled with either indigestion or the stomach bug that has been going around at school - perfect way to prepare for the parent/teacher meeting tomorrow... argh)

deemented · 24/03/2011 06:24

Urgh. Worst nights sleep ever.

Hope everyones ok?

CazandBelle · 24/03/2011 07:02

Dee good luck for your scan, thinking of you.

I'm really struggling with early mornings at the moment. I've never been particularly fantastic (who is?!) but I just cannot seem to get myself moving at the moment. So tired, zero energy and feeling "hungover" every morning. Is anyone else having lots of headaches too?

rightontime · 24/03/2011 07:26

Yay escape excellent news for you.

Caz I am getting a few headaches too.

I got my sickness bands from ebay. They were posted yesterday so FX they come tomorrow. Boots had some for £8 and the ones I got were £2.25 including postage. I didn't look in a normal pharmacy. Figured they'd be cheaper online anyway.

busyboysmum · 24/03/2011 07:27

Cazandbelle I don't get headaches myself but I have heard they are unfortunately very common.

I recommend a book called The Best Friend's Guide to Pregnancy, it made me laugh throughout my pregnancy and kept me sane.

I can't stomach breakfast at the mo so am just having a banana and a cup of tea.

Have a good day everyone Smile
