:o I'm going to attempt to remember or at least tell DH to remember to remind me that once I start kicking off I'm probably almost there - I ripped off the monitor last time and then started demanding to have my drips etc removed. Sure enough on examination was fully dilated!

Rollercoasteryears · 19/04/2011 17:00

You and me both Don'tworry - let's hope we don't need it this time.

I don't think I experienced transition last time - one minute I was lying on the bed in a pethidine induced trance and the next I was overcome with the urge to push - I don't remember having time to panic (other than a moment of mistaking the pushing urge for my body splitting in two that is!)... I went from 4cm to fully dilated in about 3 hours once I'd had the pethidine! (Still took me another hour to push DS out however and yet another hour to get the flipping placenta out)

Rollercoasteryears · 19/04/2011 17:02

P.S. Anyone know if you need to keep pethidine in the fridge? I've just picked it up and there's nothing written on it to that effect, but I'm sure I've heard people talk about "keeping it in the fridge in case you need it"...

DontWorryBaby · 19/04/2011 17:13

Rollercoaster Sounds just like my labour. Except when I was fully dilated my contractions slowed down so it was another four hours and a hormone drip before DS arrived!

jbells · 19/04/2011 18:11

Wow wot alot to catch up onsince this morning! I will start with this page

Vicbic. Wot xciting news gudluck hope it all goes great for u looking forward to hearing all about your new baby :)

Roller I am glad you got the Pethadine as others have said you will think of it and want it if you know its not there; well I always do!

Pains started again this afternoon and got to be consistantly 8 mins appart then the same as before just stopped at around 2ish. Now just starting to feel them again but so much more confident about it now its ok. My friend whos a nurse (mental health but still got gives out a nice confident aura) came and kept me company so kept my mind off it. When DH came home I was randomly walking around the house with a duster looking for something to wipe down for a distraction Smile

jbells · 19/04/2011 19:47

I just lost the message i typed :(

As for all the birth talk im closing ny eyes and pretending its not happening untill i know whether im having c section lol

well today i hav bin a busy bee. I did sum gardening and ended up in agony with my bk aftawards tho :(
took dd to park then took her for a walk in pram as she was tired and needed nap. But oh no she didnt want to so cue tantrum and crying afta a lot of walking she finally slept so i got lunch then walked half hr home. Then did sum shopping got dd a sandpit to play in then sat in garden with dd untill dinner time. She is now fast asleep thank god cos im wiped out.

Is anyone suffering from constant lower bk pain now and dead legs whenever i sit on floor?

Wigeon · 19/04/2011 20:14

Is the thread moving even faster than before as people start mat leave and therefore up their mumsnetting?!

Loopy - just on the 1/5ths palpable issue - I remember getting very confused about this last time, and the concensus on various mumsnet threads seemed to be that some midwives write 1/5ths when they mean only 1/5th of the baby's head is engaged in your pelvis, and some write it when they mean they can only feel 1/5th of the baby, ie 4/5ths is engaged. So you basically just have to ask them whether your baby is mostly engaged or mostly not engaged! HTH.

MummyWilliams · 19/04/2011 20:47

Hello All!

Vicbic hope things are progressing well for you. Keep us posted [excited emoticon]

Cowboy fingers crossed things are progressing for you too!

Loopy thanks for the advice on FF. Gosh! it really has turned into a right faff!!! I used to just boil the kettle the night before and make up feeds to store in the fridge for the day, then re-heat as needed. I've slowly been swapping winter with summer clothing. Shoes next.

jbells am in awe of your gardening shenanigans. I wish I had the energy, I get out in the garden and just the heat tires me. I am with you on the NO CLOTHES LEFT TO WEAR, let alone in this heat. I can't even bare to wear my bra at the mo!

bonkerz sorry to hear you are having such a tough time with DS at the mo! Hopefully things will settle soon! But how frightening for you!!!

running thanks I will take a look at the feeding boards.

As for me, well LO decided to be quiet during the middle of the day, so I got ultra paranoid and ended up ring the MDAU and arranged to go in for monitoring. What did the little monkey do? The moment we got in the car he started to move. But went in for monitoring nonetheless. Glad to report that everything is ok. Phew! I just need to get through the next 8 days.

xxx

cowboylover · 19/04/2011 20:53

Thanks Loopy That really makes me feel better, all in the right direction Smile

brillopads · 20/04/2011 04:45

Ho hum, can't sleep...
Day 2 of my mat leave saw me have a MW Appointment- everything fine, growth was back on track. We talked about homebirth again, and she arranged for someone to come round on Monday to drop stuff off?

However I'm not sure whether to cancel or not... DH has started to have cold feet about it; he says that he thinks that we wouldn't be 'prepared' to have a HB, whereas at hospital everything's done for you. Oh and also that I'll be in "agony" heh. I guess we need to have A TALK about it...

DH & I also went to our 1st Parent Education class- "Normal labour & pain relief options". Again I'm not sure if this helped as it made me feel worried that HBing Gas & air might not be enough? Pethidine/ diamorphine are not available.

Hopefully the hospital will still be running it's tour of facilities on Sunday- given that it's Easter & I won't feel that giving birth there will be cold & impersonal.

Homebirths sound lovely but im going into hospital for a break!! Haha - Ava been up half the night and then up at 5.30am.. Now twisting because shes tired and wont leave me alone - aghhhhh! Im pretty sure its because shes snotty and a bit poorly though but shes passed it onto me and i feel like crap :(

Someone asked about a swing? It was a swinging crib/ cot thing i bought not an actual swing (although I reaaaalllyy want one they seem expensive). Think ill wait and see if I have a twisty bubs who needs swinging :)

Hope we have some babies soon! All action here has gone quiet :( still a bit crampy but nothing new.

mslucy · 20/04/2011 07:51

just popping in to say my lovely little Max was born a month early on 11/4/11.
All a bit grim but he's doing very well and should be home by Easter. YAY!
He was a decent size - 6lb5oz - but had jaundice and some breathing difficulties (now all gone, thankfully)

Not been the best experience but he is a beauty and I now have THREE lovely boys!!!

mslucy congrats Smile

Back from m/w. Baby is totally engaged which I guess is good news. Had a long chat about birth options and she did point out that a 3rd would be easier birth wise as one of my biggest concerns is a failed induction. Obviously she couldn't guarantee it, but it was good to be able to discuss it with her. And my weight is not a problem. Have only gained 13 lbs which worried me, but she said it was fine as the baby is growing and fine measurement wise, and am eating healthily.

Am going to order some nappies this morning, and maybe get measured properly for a nursing bra now that I'm 36 weeks. My mother in the US is going to order some Bravado ones for me.
