Bit disheartened... Baby was put on a heated mattress last night, they're taking her off soon I think and have to give her another 24hrs off it to monitor her temp before she's allowed to go home. As she can't go home I want be discharged yet :( I really wanted tomorrow with the kids and dh just the 5 of is, and looks like I'll be lucky to be home for their bedtime tomorrow... I'm really gutted! Doesn't help that even tho dh is allowed to be here from 9-8 he can only come to see me for 2yes a day as he has the kids. :(

Starshinetiger · 19/03/2011 14:39

Oh Can't, after what you've done, that's really tough :( I guess all you can do is make the most of the you time - can you do your nails and enjoy an interrupted tea/coffee/hot choc while you read some magazines, i.e. Do some things you don't normally get the chance to do when you're at home? If I was closer, I'd offer to look after your DC so your DH could come in with you - sorry! Hope baby doesn't need to go back on heated mattress.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 19/03/2011 17:50

Well she's coming off the mattress at 7ish, then monitoring her thru the night. She's also been a bit grunty with fluid on her chest so they wanna keep an eye on that a bit longer to check its improving with feeding.

Gang really do my nails or anything lavish... Have made the most of the audit by having a little nap this afternoon, dh has brought me a book in and my ipod and have a couple of magazines I can read again... My friend, babies mum keeps coming to check I'm ok, see if her dh can get me anything etc, keeps offering me a cuddle of baby but I think I'll wait till this evening. Asks me if I wanna go in with her... Feels a tad odd watching her do everything and just sitting watching... Not that I wanna do it, but seeing her with her baby makes me want mine more! Had a lovely cuddle and play with dd2 when they visited me earlier tho which was fab! :)

Diege · 19/03/2011 17:58

CANT, just read your lovely news - many congrats and and wow at how quick your labour was (was it a VBAC?). You must be very proud. Fingers crossed you can get home very soon. How are you feeling?Back from Wales for my dad's 60th - really struggled, and I swear the cyclezine bottle is sneering at me as I open in. Home now though and I am experimenting with some carrot soup - at least it will be easy coming back up!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 19/03/2011 20:11

Diege- yep it was a successful vbac! So happy I managed it! The good thing about being on the ward while having what I knew were contractions was that I was up wiggling away at the end of my bed, was supposed to be bed-bound but it was just too painful to be led down! Anyway, as the flippin monitor wasn't picking up any tightening they just left me, never even offered pain relief till I was crying in pain! Got given 2 paracetamol! Within an hour I'd delivered! However... It had been so painful I'd resigned to telling my friend I wanted an epidural! Didn't have time luckily, and even though I was only in the delivery suite for pushing her out, I was offered gas and air apparently... Friend said I just politely declined and got on with it! I was so spaced out on natural adrenaline I can't remember much of the conversation! Haha!

It was a bit hectic- but seeing my friends face as she was being born was amazing! I'll never forget how amazed and in love she looked! Makes it all worth it... And I thought I'd notice the pain more with not having a baby to cuddle and mesmerise me, but the pain went instantly! Dh said today that I'm never allowed to be pg again... I said I'd not rule it out for the future when our gang are older! Seems odd- but I'm gonna ask about risks of a peek in the future- now I've had 2 prem babies its more likely I'd have another I guess...

Right anyway- I've rambled enough. Just had a shower so I'm gonna attempt an early night.

essenceofSES · 19/03/2011 20:36

Cant - your posts have brought a tear to my eye. I think you have done the most amazing selfless thing and I am in awe of you. I really think I'm too selfish to ever contemplate doing the same thing.
Well done on your VBAC as well - inspirational for me that it can happen :)
Finally, FWIW, I'm sure you and DH will be considering adding to your own lovely family before too long Grin

cantmummyhaveabreak · 19/03/2011 21:06

Ses- its really touching me that everyone on the wagon is so understanding of what I've done, its such a controversial and taboo subject as many people don't know much about surrogacy really. I have to say it is well worth the last 8mths to know I've made a family, to feel that proudness of what I've given my friends... However I wouldn't do it again... Maybe if my sister who's not yet had a baby couldn't have any herself I'd do it for her, but no-one else will be blessed with the fruits of my womb! Haha! DC's saw baby today, the older 2 said I'd done a good job- made me feel so proud of how well they've taken it all in! All 3 were amazed by her, but were just as happy to come back into my room for cuddles and kisses!

tinksbabyis2 · 21/03/2011 09:07

hi cant hope all ok

bumpsnowjustplump · 21/03/2011 12:28

Morning all.

Huge congratulations to you Cant hope you are at home with your little ones now..

I had my scan friday (well remembered Cant) and I was exactly 7 weeks. They checked all they could as I had had so many drugs - better explain - i had the tetanus, diphtheria and polio vaccine as well as Hep b vaccine while pregant. They confirmed the egg sack was fine the baby was measuring correctly and there was a hb!!

Hope you are all well, I have started my studing now so best get on with it..

cantmummyhaveabreak · 21/03/2011 15:17

Bump- thanks for getting back, was fearing the worst after your worrying on symptoms, then no update after the scan. So glad all is ok :)

Not home yet. Baby is still on mattress and now under uv light for jaundice. Might possibly get home this evening, but not getting my hopes up after all this messing about! I broke down a bit yesterday with missing my lot so much so the midwives were a bit naughty and let me home for a few hrs to spend some time with them. Has made me cope with today a lot easier.

Diege · 21/03/2011 15:42

Aw CANT you poor thing Sad. Great that you could sneak home though, and I'm sure it's just a case of holding on a few more hours/possibly one more day xx
BUMPS I was also worrying a bit about you! Many congrats on the good news Smile. I think I am a few days behind you (6 + 5) and hoping to hear back from the EPU today after last week's phone message tag about an early scan. If not I will give up and book a private one I think!

tinksbabyis2 · 21/03/2011 16:22

Bumps great news Grin

Hi can't poor u! Hope u get home soon

Hi diege hope u get a scan soon

cantmummyhaveabreak · 21/03/2011 17:44

Well baby is now off the mattress and out from the light, test showed jaundice levels were much lower, they're leaving her 12 hrs and repeating to check they've stayed low. If they have I'm off home first thing! Really cant wait! Got everything crossed.

Strange thing is I've not held baby yet... Not sure if I want to so soon, but if I dint I might regret it with not seeing her for a week or so till we register her. It would be nice to be able to say I remember the first cuddle when she was small, and my friends really want a picture of her with me. I know I have no feelings towards her in a motherly way, but worry a cuddle might bring something on... God- bloody hormones eh!

tinksbabyis2 · 22/03/2011 09:14

cant great news Grin

GruffaloSoldier · 22/03/2011 12:42

Hi everyone,

Just got back from scan etc and they have estimated baby at 6lb 12oz!!! I am 34 weeks + 5!

Im going to have a glucose test for GD on Thursday, and also another test for anaemia, as I am anaemic but they think I could have got worse. (Im very pale and dizzy, no energy and been having chest pain).

Anyway, its all routine - Im glad they are keeping an eye out.

Anyway, going to have some lunch now but probably be back on later!

OP posts:

cantmummyhaveabreak · 22/03/2011 18:09

I'm home now. Had a little cuddle of baby before she went home. Was nice and luckily played no different to my emotions... However I am feeling SUPER broody.

Dh isnt home till 8.30, so been thrown in at the deep end for my return home! DD2 is being super clingy- expected after not having me home for 6 days!

tinksbabyis2 · 22/03/2011 20:06

Diege · 22/03/2011 21:28

Excellent news CANT Smile. Do take it easy though - as you well know you may feel a bit low in the next week or so, so you know where we are xx
TINKS, great going wth the summer shoppping. I'm also starting anyday now!
GRUFF wow does sound a potential whopper though don't worry too much as they can be 2 pounds out 'either side' according to my sonographer Hmm
Still very sick here but coping (just). Far worse in the evenings when the meds don't touch it, but I far prefer this to mornings when I have to get out of the house early. 7 weeks tomorrow!

Rugbylovingmum · 22/03/2011 21:52

Hi all,

just checking in quickly between filling in job applications - I am extremely bored! I'm not really qualified for the job I'm going for so I'm unlikely to get shortlisted which isn't motivating me but it's a good job and part-time hours so it's worth a shot.

Cant - so pleased that you are home with your LOs Grin.

Diege - I hope you get some better meds soon but I guess the nausea is quite reassurring at the same time.

Tink - were you having problems with your pill? I hope the new one is better.

Gruff - wow, I wouldn't take those scan weights too seriously but that def sounds like a big healthy baby! Boo for feeling sick and dizzy, I hope they can give you something to help. How is the house hunting going?

Right, better get back to it. Wish me luck.

essenceofSES · 22/03/2011 23:07

Hello all!

Rugby - good luck with the job application!

Cant - so pleased you are now finally home with your little ones. Hope you've had lots of cuddles with them and DH.
Glad you got to have a cuddle with the baby.

Gruff - wow!! Although the others are right, weights aren't totally accurate. They predicted DS as 9lb5 2 days before he was born and he was 8lb9

Diege - I hope the nausea gets to a level where it is reassuring but not too debilitating. Can't believe you're 7weeks already! It's already going very quickly!

Bumps - glad all went well with your scan :)

tink - hope you get your meds sorted. Good shopping!

Hello Giraffe, Star, Kayz too

Not much going on here other than the usual business of work! I'm not even getting my day off tomorrow as I have to go to a meeting in London so DS is in nursery for an extra day. There's chicken pox, tonsilitis and a viral rash thing going round nursery at the moment. I really hope DS stays clear!

Starshinetiger · 23/03/2011 06:34

Morning all. Can't - glad you are home now with your family - sneaky yay for broodiness!
Diege - sorry sickness is so bad.
Ses - boo to working an extra day.
Gruff - agree with others, scans are a guide, not the truth (never had a late scan with either of my two though).
Tink - yay for shopping, I placed an order yesterday too but only for socks pants and pyjamas for the DC.
About to head off to Milan for the day - if only for the shopping, but alas will only see taxi and office :(
Am lurking but not posting much.
Oh, Bumps - glad scan went well (am I the only one to have only ever had 12 and 20 week scans?)

GruffaloSoldier · 23/03/2011 08:41

Hi all

Thanks for the reassurance - however I forgot to tell you that it isn't actually the weight they are concerned about for the GD, but the fact that the baby's tummy is a long way out of the scale than the other parts measured, whereas at the 20 week scan they were all perfectly in line and well within normal.

This, with the addition of the symptoms I am having is a cause for concern so that is why they are testing.

However, there is a history of very large babies in my family so I'm still hoping that all is going to be ok.

Hi to Ses, Star, Cant, Diege, Rugby, Tink, Bumps, anyone else Ive missed. I'm afraid I caught up with thread but have forgotten everything already! Blush
