Angels, we have been using wipes with Noah being second time parents! I took them into the hospital and was ready to tell the midwives to get lost if they told me to use cotton wool and water. We used it with Ben nd it was such a pain. I think they say to use water in case of sensitive skin??
Pinkie, we also had projectile vomiting from Noah earlier, I made the mistake of feeding him then carrying him down to the kitchen putting too much pressure on his little tummy and he threw a fair bit of it up over me and the kitchen floor, it even came out of his nose, bless him. Poor Ben was eating his tea but luckily wasn't too bothered by it!

PinkElephant73 · 21/03/2011 21:52

Angels we are using the Huggies wipes now for nappy changes, they are thicker than other wipes and unscented so they seem gentler than some other brands.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 21/03/2011 22:24

angels You are amazing using cotton wool and water all this time! I used wipes from the get go and agree that the huggies ones are a lot thicker but they have a tendency to tear when you're pulling them out the pack (or maybe just me being impatient...) Is Alice's skin okay? If she doesn't have any reactions to things then I think you're justified in using wipes now.

Ben has been asleep in his crib for 3.5 hours now and I've been in the living room staring at the baby monitor, first time he's been so good! Damn it, I knew I shouldn't have tempted fate like that!

supadupa900 · 22/03/2011 06:20

Morning all! It's all quiet here, and I'm having a lovely cup of coffee!
Angels re the baby wipes, they used them in the hospital when thy were changing Jemima, so I have kept on using them. We've got Pampers for sensitive skin ones, and haven't had any redness and she doesn't appear to be sore (although she doesn't like having her nappy changed!)

Has anyone got any thoughts on grobags? I've got some, but we haven't started using them yet (she's 12 days old) but she's wriggling and kicking off her covers and waking herself up. Is it too soon to use them? She's in a moses basket.

Hope everyone had a good night. x

ledkr · 22/03/2011 06:43

did you try swaddling? Delilah loves it and i only do it at night to show her the diference.I have bags but she seems too skinny at the top to wear one.
Had a bad night, she went down early-7.30 i couldnt keep her awake so woke early for feed at 3 then reflux has been playing her up since 4 so my day is half way thru already,How will i last the day,she doesnt really sleep in the day Hmm

wigglesrock · 22/03/2011 07:28

Morning Ledkr, feel for you- Anna had stopped having her great day time sleeps, thought I ordered a good sleeper this time Wink

Angels I'm using Tesco own baby wipes, hid them at the hospital, ended up sharing them out behind a curtain with other mums - felt like I was back at school having a sneaky cig with the cool kids Blush.

slowangels1 · 22/03/2011 08:35

so I am the only one using cotton wool still then Blush. I would be more inclined to just give up and go for the wipes for Alice has nappy rash (and we're so careful with how we wash/dry her bum and changing nappies often). Think she must inherit my sensitive skin - did I ever say I came home from hospital with nasty nappy rash myself Blush? It was those horrible plastic lined mat things they stick under your bum to catch any bleeding (not sure if only people who can't move due to csec get those) Confused . lol at wiggles sharing baby wipes behind the curtain at hospital Wink

supa that's so funny you mention gro bags as I got one out of the cupboard today to try for the first time. I can't work out why they are so long though - do you just fold over the excess at the end?

Am just making DHs dinner all ready to reheat for tonight so I can look like a good wife (and have a clean kitchen hopefully by the time he gets home) Grin

ledkr hope you manage a nap today and fingers crossed D sleeps a loonnnnngggg time tonight.

forgot to say last time knitta love the piccies and am very Envy of the gorgeous sling Grin and great piccie 40 too (forget if I said that before too)

Nope, I'm still using cotton wool! A has sensitive skin too.

We all have a stinking cold :( I'm hoping it'll clear up in a couple of days though. So glad I'm still BF DD1, she's been really grouchy and it's the only thing that's cheering her up at the moment.

A has projectile vomited a couple of times, usually all over me right before we go to sleep Hmm I'm not too worried about it though, DD1 used to do it when she was tiny and then grew out of it, she never had any problems with weight gain. It always looks like they're puking loads though, doesn't it?

PinkiePoo · 22/03/2011 09:17

eau does she have reflux too? My LO has done it 3 times in a row now and i am worried. Going to take her to docs today, as she is 5 weeks and 4 days and only 7lb 13...she cannot afford to lose weight. She has reflux, but i am not sure if she is allergic to lactose milk.......

I could get a bloody job as a detective after all this.....

EauRouge · 22/03/2011 10:02

Who knows? She's happy enough and gaining weight so I'm not worried. I think it was just a bit of gas combined with my super-fast letdown. There's some good info here.

ILovePonyo · 22/03/2011 10:06

I'm still using cotton wool! Is it all the first time mums only using cotton wool and everyone else isn't so pfb about it?! Wink

pinkie i got infant gaviscon for dd fronm the docs yesterday as she had started being sick over the last 5 days. Going to give it a week or so and hope for improvement. Dd is 5 weeks and 7 lbs 10oz at last weigh so I know what you mean about not wanting her to lose weight. Good luck at the docs today.

delia nice to see you on the thread, i hope things get better for you, wish i had some helpful advice. All i can really say is that 6 months isnt that long to be taking meds (imho) and if its going to help you its well worth it in the long run?

supa i agree with ledkr about swaddling, we also only do it at night and it seems to help as dd is a little wriggler!

ledkr hope you have a better night tonight :)

Hello to everyone else, sorry cant post more, going to go and try to put dd down for a minute so i can wash some bottles, wish me luck Hmm

EauRouge · 22/03/2011 10:09

I'm a second-timer, I'm still using it because it's softer on A's skin and she complains about cold baby wipes Grin

slowangels1 · 22/03/2011 10:45

speaking of reflux etc - what is normal posset wise? Alice suddenly had a big projectile incident twice on sun eve (once down my chest and once down DHs back Confused ). Since then she's been posseting much more than usual - about 5 times this morning already when before she only did it ocasionally. Is this usual behaviour to suddenly change like this? I have no idea if it's normal, possible reflux or what or if there's anything I can do to stop it/reduce it.

Swaddling is great but I just don't have the nac - I call DH the king of swaddling as he has a great technique but when I try and copy she always wriggles free.

PinkiePoo · 22/03/2011 10:58

slow hate to say but LO had silent reflux for first few weeks, now all of a sudden it has taken a turn for the worse....

Just about to leave for docs, will let you know what he/she says...projectile is horrible isn't it? very scary and my heart breaks for her as she looks so frightened when it happens Sad

Ps. I, too, i am shocking at swaddling, must be a man thing!

40Weeks · 22/03/2011 14:24

Have a look on Jojomaman for the swaddle pod, takes the hassle out and M loves it!

ILovePonyo · 22/03/2011 14:40

I got a swaddle blanket, think its called miracle blanket? Can't find link sorry. It cost about £15 and well worth it!

ledkr and pinkie are you both using gaviscon? If so, do you put into bottles when you make them up in advance or add it when you've warmed them before feeding? Apologies if either of you are not ff or making up bottles in advance :)

Dd had a massive screaming fit when I had to put her down earlier to wash and make up bottles, I'm lucky I live in an end terrace and my one neighbour is an elderly deaf man, otherwise I think people would be ringing social services the amount she was screaming!

PinkiePoo · 22/03/2011 15:02

ponyo i add it after it has been warmed....but saying that i have to lay off the gaviscon to see if her projectile wears off. Got to try Aptimil milk now. She has put weight on and is now 8lbs....so she said we will just keep a very close eye on it.

ledkr · 22/03/2011 15:06

yep, gaviscon, ranitadine, omeprazole and dom peridone, poor thing,i mix the gav in the bottle i pkt per 100mls.
They have put her meds all up today,i hate medicating such a young baby Sad

They do a swaddle blanket in tk max for about 7 quid.

I can highly recommend the swing ladies,d has been in it a lot today, the rocking keeps her asleep even when i csn see she is stirring,i have clean bottles/hair/armpits/kitchen.
Just have to move her to the pram now for school run, hope she stays asleep Confused

You just zip it up, no messin'

Sorry for brief messages, crying bubba

ILovePonyo · 22/03/2011 16:22

pinkie i am now using aptimil and find dd has been bringing her wind up better, might be the change of milk?
I'm adding the gaviscon to the bottle with the formulaq whe n i make it up - then feed straight away or cool and put in fridge then feed later. Do you think i should be adding when warming - have either of you been advised how to do it or how not to?

ledkr thats a lot of meds isnt it! hope its helping. am considering buying swing now on your recommendation - any places that do cheapy ones?! Grin

ILovePonyo · 22/03/2011 16:25

:)

Bensmum76 · 22/03/2011 16:30

Is anyone attempting to put their little one down for naps in their basket/cot? One of my biggest concerns, that really exacerbates my anxiety/PND is Noah sleeping on me for naps. I also think he may be waking in the night crying because he can't get back to sleep and we are mistaking it for him being hungry and feeding him back to sleep.
Part of me thinks we should just carry on as we have been and part of me thinks we shush/pat him back to sleep. What are your views on it?
Ledkr, D is on a lot of meds. I'm glad you've found the swing works, bet you feel like a new woman today!
We swaddled Noah in hospital but when we came home we found he didn't seem to like it. He is now in a gro bag with a blanket on top. He seems to like having his hands and arms free.

ILovePonyo · 22/03/2011 16:44

bensmum if it makes you feel any better dd has slept on me all day today, as soon as I put her down she cried. Dp has just got home, given her a cuddle and put her down and she seems to be staying asleep Angry
I've noticed that on the odd night, she has been grizzly in her sleep and I've thought "I'll get up in a minute and get a bottle", gone back to sleep and realised she's gone back to sleep on her own and woken again a couple of hours later. This isn't every night and tbh I think I'm feeding her when she's not actually hungry sometimes, what I;m trying to say is it could be worth a go if you can ignore the crying for a bit and see if he settles himself? Good luck!

EauRouge · 22/03/2011 17:26

I let A nap on me and sleep with me at night, there is no evidence that it causes bad habits and at this young age they definitely do need feeding in the night. I think sleep-training/shushing and patting is only recommended for older babies but I never did it with DD1 so I'm not sure.

slowangels1 · 22/03/2011 17:32

pinkie Confused re: silent reflux - hope A doesn't have that.

To those who've had a c sec - what's your healing scar like now? I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and noticed 3 bits on the scar which arn't healing so well and are sore and red. Only small bits but perhaps a little bit of puss in the area (sorry for tmi Blush ) and feels really sore and bruised. It also pongs a bit where my tummy overhang stops air getting to it. How do you know if it's infected?
