Doh sorry you told me the name. Clearly not concentrating in my blubbering state watching comic relief. Gut wrenching stuff, even more so now i am a mummy. Have we all donated?? Please try xx

slowangels1 · 19/03/2011 08:44

morning all, am having a massive issue with nipple confusion (DD treats my nipple like a bottle and won't/can't latch on). It's been getting worse for the past few days culminating in taking 2 hrs to try and get her to latch on the past few feeds and still failing and ending out having to give her a bottle. Anyone here had any probs with this and have any advice? Am completely stuck for what to do...

pinkie it's quite a thin book but think it will be useful for me as a point of reerence to look to for development and things to do with LO. We have been playing motzart to her the past couple of days [trying to breed genius child emoticon] which she seems to like, but then, she also seemed to like take that on comic relief last night too Grin Wink . I had to turn comic releif off at points as it was so upsetting [conused] .

I wonder if ledkr made her millions on betting at the races yesterday Wink

I'm watching Comic Relief now as recording it on Sky, in bed too early on an evening now to watch live tv!
Is anyone else finding that their little one wants to feed to sleep? Am having o hold Noah for all daytime naps as we try not to feed him to sleep but he seems to settle better after a feed. Oops he waking up now

Grannyapple · 19/03/2011 09:12

angels I had same problem with Nate...nipple shields helped...cost about £6 in boots per set (get a couple if sets so u always gave them available). Really helped...basically almost act as a teat over your nipple & when baby sucks, encourages nipple into the teat. I bought them because I have (a) flat nipples & (b) had been expressing & topping with formula before the Tongue tie was corrected...nipple shields helped with both.

I went to a bf drop in clinic on tuesday & they said to start off with the nipple shield, then during the feed take it off & bubba should then get used to the nipple...& milk will be coming out so she should hopefully latch on no problem. If doesn't work, you can keep using the nipple shields in the meantime.

Hope that helps.

slowangels1 · 19/03/2011 09:15

we have lots of nipple shields as we have had issues with sore/bleeding nipples a couple of weeks ago (the breastfeeding isn't easy - one thing ater another here). Thanks granny will try that at next feed

Oh, and I am now seriously worried about knitta - do you think she's OK? Has anyone spotted her on another thread in the past week? ....

Grannyapple · 19/03/2011 09:47

I know the feeling Angels I'm considering giving up this week too...

ledkr · 19/03/2011 10:53

morning ladies, sorry to hear about the feeding issues,i remember it so well and the last time i fed was 20 yrs ago Shocki used nipple shields the whole time with ds3 and tbh it didnt bother me,mw kept banging on about supply but i just carried on,i used to take them out sterilised in a little tupperware pot.I guess it a shame to stop now you have come this far, hope it gets better.
I thought maybe knitta had a rough time and maybe a section and hasnt got an i phone to post from hospital maybe.
I had a great time at the races in my spanx. One winner and lots to drink, then we went for a curry and to a club with dh and my ds2 and his gf,it was very funny we danced all night.I feel really good this morning as if im back in the land of the living i can highly recommend it ladies.Oh of course Delilah slept like a flipping dream for my sister.
We have made some headway with her reflux i think, keeping her upright for the feed and 30mins after seems to really help,we should have been doing it anyway but i think we were a bit lax Hmm she also has a wedge for her moses and this makes a huge difference.May be worth *pinky and ponyo" trying th upright thing for their babies.
I know someone posted this a while back but i have been feeling really sorry for dd1 as i barely get any time with her esp after school,i am trying to cope with D and E is trying to tell me about her day and i cant concentrate, going to make a real effort.
OOPs i just had a flash back of me in the indian resturant telling dh a few drunken home truths about the pil Shock oh well it had to come out.

40Weeks · 19/03/2011 14:03

Ha ha glad you have fun ledkr it's good to be yourself again rather than mummy.

Hoping to hear from knitta soon - can you search by user name to find her on another thread?

40Weeks · 19/03/2011 14:22

Sorry, bubs started yelling so didn't finish.... Sorry to hear of feeding troubles, you are brilliant for coming this far. I know it might seem silly but have you also tried putting a dollop of infacol on your nips? Might help, assuming they like the taste which mine have always done. It's how I got Mikey to take the dummy - I know it's not the same as latching on but might be worth a try

supadupa900 · 19/03/2011 14:26

Hello Everyone! It's been a long time since I joined in, but can happily report that Jemima Elizabeth made an elegant entrance on 10th March, exactly 2 weeks overcooked! (I was a bit less elegant having been induced, and all hell breaking loose! 4 hours 38 minutes start to finish, I got to go in the birth pool which was amazing, but she got stuck, and was delivered by forceps in the end) I don't remember a great deal about it to be honest (isn't gas and air FAB!), but DP and Mum were with me, and I think it was more traumatic for them than me. We seem to be doing ok. She is feeding like a demon, a combination of breast and formula (SMA) (formula last feed at night when she seems to be most hungry) which is working well for us, as it means that she is sleeping from about midnight/ 1am ish until about 5/6am. She also seems to find the hoover a comfort when she is grizzling and trying to stay awake. I hope everyone else is doing well. x

wigglesrock · 19/03/2011 14:42

supadupa900 congratulations on the birth of Jemima, if she likes the hoover, try the washing machine, whenever Anna finds it difficult to settle I stick a wash on and the noise sends her straight to sleep!!!

ledkr glad you had a great time, I keep Anna upright when feeding and she is much less upchucky than dd1 and dd2 were!!!

Anna has developed some spots on her face and head, its not quite a rash, more pimply than that, not milk spots either, I thought maybe washing powder was irritating her skin but its not on the rest of her body Hmm Could it be my clothes irritating her, it does seem to be worse on the side of her face that i hold against me?? Any ideas????

ILovePonyo · 19/03/2011 15:50

Hi all, well ledkr after a flipping nightmare day yesterday with dd screaming and in pain all day and most of the night I have just kept her upright for at least 30 mins after her feed and she seems ok so far, thanks for the tip! And glad D's reflux seems better. Grin and good for you at the drunken home truths about PIL's, I told dp I was still pissed off with his mother the other day and he listened and agreed with me Shock which made me feel loads better. Glad you had a good night out too :)

supa congrats on the birth of your dd!

wiggles dd has a few little white spots but I'm guessing these are milk spots? Hopefully someone more knowledgable will be along soon... Do you use washing powder like Fairy? (a gentle one I mean)

Bensmum76 · 19/03/2011 16:55

Hi all
Wiggles and Ponyo - Noah has whiteheads all over his face and Ben developed them too when he was first born. My midwife told me they were my hormones coming out in the baby (?).
Ledkr - sounds like you had a blast yesterday, well deserved.
Congrats on the birth of Jemima Supa, what a beautiful name.
Hope your all having a good day

knittakid · 19/03/2011 17:21

Hello!!!! have not read all the posts, finally home Smile, very long story that I'll write up later. Baby Pablo and I are both fine, spent five days in hospital and got home yesterday eve. He was born last sunday morning, 9lbs 11oz. will upload a pic in a sec.
Hope you all are doing well, really missed your chat at hospital!
Xxxxx

PinkiePoo · 19/03/2011 17:35

wiggles thats really common in babies. LO had it all over her face....spread all over. We used Epiderm...get at pharmacy. Its the vasoline type not the cream and it went within a day. Still use it now anyway. Highly recommend.

ledkr thanks for tip, will def try it as LO is having a nightmare day. Been feeding really erratically and just fed her, just was really wanting it, but screaming in pain halfway....

PinkiePoo · 19/03/2011 17:36

yay knitta congrats. look forward to the story xxxx

ILovePonyo · 19/03/2011 18:05

NeedToSleepZZZ · 19/03/2011 18:06

so pleased you're okay knitta, congratulations and hello baby pablo! Smile

supa congratulations on the birth of Jemima! Smile

wiggles if it's any consolation B has whiteheads and blackheads that appear and disappear in a couple of days, i haven't had any spots since he was born so maybe he's having them for me Wink

ledkr sounds like you had a great time, you needed it! how was dh when you told him your thoughts about his parents? oh, and where'd you get the spanx and are they comfy? it's oh's bday soon and i want to look less bumpy when we go out Blush

EauRouge · 19/03/2011 18:10

knitta! I'm so glad you're OK and that Pablo (ace name) arrived safely. Congratulations.

Congrats also to supa on the birth of Jemima :)

Hope everyone else is doing well, all is fine if a little busy here. Is that everyone now? Is there a post-natal thread yet?

wigglesrock · 19/03/2011 18:33

Fantastic news knitta look forward to hearing all about it Grin xxx

PinkiePoo and all - thanks for the recommendations, re spots, doesn't bother me in the slightest but think Bridezilla might be threatening to photoshop the wedding pictures Grin

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. Dh had Friday off to make up for being away the rest of the week. We just about made it through, all four of us! Grin
