Hi there.

Went to see my gynaecologist this afternoon (I love that, it makes me sound dead posh and/or american!) and he's referred me for an early scan, just to make sure everythings ok. Booked in for 6 Dec, at 7wks and 3 days. Will also have scans at 12 and 20 weeks - an embarrassment of riches after the solitary scan I had with ds2! Only reason I've got the early scan (unless there's something he hasn't told me - professional worrier here!) is that I was in the course of investigations for mid-cycle bleeding, results of which have all been dead normal.

Otherwise, only mild nausea, slightly tired and enormously fat (latter all pre-pg unfortunately) to report here.

muppet3 · 17/11/2005 09:00

Aw Jersey - hang on there I'm just off to see if I can keep down a bagel and manage the 10 minute walk to the office ... (these things I just totally took for granted)

jersey · 17/11/2005 09:23

Hi only lasted about an hour and luckly wasn't actually sick. Fine later! See how today works out. Borrowed one of hubbys jumpers to wear today as at college tonight and very cold there! All my jumpers tight fitting, would show the increase in stomach size!!! which trying to hide .

Gizmo · 17/11/2005 09:29

Ah, the glamour of early pregnancy!

Thought I'd drop by and introduce myself, since I've just had a positive test. Bit of a shock, really, DH and I had only just decided (on sunday) that we would start ttc and it turns out that we're too late! Will probably have to push for an early dating scan since I have no idea when this baby was conceived.

Anyway, I have currently have a 3 year old DS, a long standing mumsnet addiction, a bad cold, nausea and horrible toothache, for which I am not taking antibiotics. So all in all I empathise with all of you who are suffering at this stage.

HumphreysCorner · 17/11/2005 09:48

Congratulations Gizmo! have you any idea when you are due?

My hairdresser couldn't make it yesterday as she was stuck at hospital-when I said I was being nosey and asked her why she was at the hospital she told me she was having a scan to see if there were 2 in there! She said she would never have another baby. She is due 10th June so 3 weeks before me hopefully. I still haven't told anyone but my stomach is getting flabbier-good job it's winter and you can wear baggy jumpers-lol!

Yesterday I was sick all day, good job I wasn't at work-so far so good this morning-just feel sick.

Mum and dad are coming today to assist with my patio pots so lots of fresh air.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Back later

It's a beautiful day here, HC: nice and cold and sunny. That's got to be good for morale, even if not for nausea.

Re dates, the only clue I have is my last pill related bleed which finished on Thursday 13th. Since I tested yesterday, and it was a bog standard test that won't pick up a pregnancy until, at the earliest, 2 weeks after conception, that leaves a window for conception between the 13th and the 31st October. Except that I think it's possible for you to have a normal pill related bleed even if you're pregnant, if you carry on taking the pill, so there is a small chance I could be a lot further on.

Yipes. That would not be amusing. I have been drinking like a fish for months, so this baby could be pickled......

jersey · 17/11/2005 10:01

COngrats Gizmo. Yes early preg in the summer would be harder to hide!!!

2ndtimelucky · 17/11/2005 11:21

Hi all

I am new to mumsnet but would like to join this thread. I am due on the 6th July which makes me about 7 weeks gone.

This is baby number 2 and we have been ttc for 18 months so DD and me over the moon.

My boobs are still tender and I have terrible back ache (which I had since my last DD 3 years ago).

I'm lucky though - no sickness!!!!!!!!!!

Nice to meet you all.

2ndtimelucky · 17/11/2005 11:22

Sorry - that was meant to say DH and me are over the moon.

Not yet told my DD as she is 'baby mad' and decided to wait until she notices mummy getting fat!!!!!!!

monkeychops · 17/11/2005 12:24

morning/ afternoon all. I hope everyone is feeling nice and queasy! I am - which is a relief as my syptoms disapeared for a couple of days. I saw Gp on monday who to suggested i book a viability scan to work out my dates as he is as confused as we were last time ( could be 10 or could be 5ish weeks etc) so will be able to confirm date then HC.
We haven 't told anyone yet but will be telling family tonight etc. Its my birthday on 23rd and am celebrating it this saturday, 6 of us are going ice scating then we were going to go out for dinner but i think i will have everyone to me for dinner incase i conk out at 9pm! I think people will notice that i am not drinking though... any suggestions to cover that one up without saying am pg ???
It a tough one.
any way congratulations to the latest members, any tips on curbing nausea other than eating a packet of bread sticks a day?!

2ndtimelucky · 17/11/2005 12:44

To hide the fact you are not drinking, if everyone is coming to you then you can make the drinks - they don't need to know that your coke or orange juice doesn't have vodka in it!

HumphreysCorner · 17/11/2005 13:57

Congrats to you too 2ndtimelucky- we didn't have a due 6th July until now.

monkeychops-I had a party on Bonfire Night and I was so busy making sure I made everyone a drink so they couldn't ask me if I wanted one-and nobody noticed. You can all drink just water with your meal and have drinks before. Good Luck and Happy B'Day for the 23rd!

Nothing is curbing the nausea-it is horrid!

DD now having a nap so going to take the opportunity to have one myself.

Bye for now

It's remarkable how few people notice when you don't drink, tbh. I used a variety of tactics: one is to accidentally end up with two drinks - one of which looks like a gin and tonic but is in fact tonic only, and the other might be a half pint, which never got touched. Drink the 'gin and tonic' slowly and no-one seems to notice you're not drinking.

After a bit I just got more upfront with people and would say I wasn't drinking for x weeks as I felt it would do me some good. I've done this several times over the years when not pregnant so it's not unusual, but of course that one won't wash around Christmas.

Finally, there's always the old 'I'm on antibiotics' line. Just don't do what I did and try this one in a room full of medics who spent the rest of the evening trying to get me to remember what my 'antibiotics' were, because apparently you can combine alcohol with most of them - doh!

spub · 17/11/2005 17:53

Hi to the newbies! Glad all is going well for everyone. Lying low with chronic sinusitus for which I'm taking homeopathic remedies and having acupuncure - still hurting like hell, tho!
I told people I had had candida (true) and was off the alcohol 'cos yeast and sugar are the worst culprits!
Also feeling far fatter with this pregnancy - my belly was very far from trim but at 7 weeks I'm struggling to get my jeans on and have gone up a size already!
Lovely cold day here in Scotland, too.
Off to drink a delicious virgin pina colada that dh has just made! Can't get enough fruit juice down my neck right now!
Have a good night everyone!

monkeychops · 17/11/2005 19:39

good tips folks - was thinking of the old antibiotics line, Gizmo ( due to an ear infection, perhaps?) and i drink plain tonic water at the mo anyway, but as HC pointed out it should be slightly easier as its at home.

Anyway talking of waist lines - mine seems to have disappeared over night, why ismy tummy sticking out at only a few weeks??? It must be because dear beanie is a whole millimeter or something!!!

jamiesam · 17/11/2005 21:00

evening all

am taking a passing interest in your anti-nausea tips (afraid that if I think about is, will feel more sick) I was definitely more nauseous with ds2 than ds1 so nervous that I'll be more so again this time. My only anti-nausea tips were (1) to keep myself busy - I am very distractable and (2) to eat, lots of plain biscuits esp. Kept some in my desk drawer at work and in bedside cabinet.

am keen for any tips on interesting drinks. Is a virgin pina colada just pineapple and coconut juice drink??

Hulababy · 17/11/2005 21:26

jamiesam - only just seen this!!!!! Massive congratulations!!! Guess that means you won't be coming to the Spa in feb then? really pleased for you!

katzguk · 17/11/2005 21:27

you beat me hula - congrats here too, let me know if you'd like some baby clothes

jersey · 18/11/2005 08:19

Snap on the tummy front, baggy jumpers, trousers too tight, etc.. and only 4.5 weeks !!

2ndtimelucky · 18/11/2005 08:39

morning - is it true that you start to show sooner with your 2nd?

jersey · 18/11/2005 08:58

I have, already look at least 8 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

muppet3 · 18/11/2005 09:05

Feeling quite low this morning. All my nausea has vanished, breasts have shrunk slightly and no longer feel at all heavy. And stomach has suddenly shrunk too. I know it's silly to panic, but I can't help feeling worried. With not even knowing if I'm 9 weeks or 6 weeks, it all suddenly hit me and got too much. Wondering whether to book a private early scan next week - I prob won't get an NHS one til 16 weeks.

jersey · 18/11/2005 09:57

Have you booked with MD yet muppet?

If you have ring her, if not ring the doctors and say your worried (exaggerate if need be) and see if they can send you up to the hospital for a dating scan early.

Fingers crossed.xxxxxx

2ndtimelucky · 18/11/2005 10:07

Muppet3 - Jersey is right if your worried ring the docs, you need to put your mind at rest.

Gizmo · 18/11/2005 11:33

Go on muppet, I'm sure it will make you feel better to know what's happening. Round here, early scans are offered to women who have any reason to worry about their pregnancy - that could be a national NHS policy, I'm not sure.

Went to see my doc this morning and, lovely man, he's booked me an early scan so we can work out the dates! So I'm off to the hossie next wednesday. Does anyone else always get worried before scans that the whole thing is a big mistake and the scan technician is going to find nothing there? I know I've got a positive test and all, but somehow it still doesn't feel very 'real' to me....just have a picture of embarrassed me going, 'oh how silly, it must have been wind' as I back out of the scan room, blushing
