Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JimmyChoo17 · 30/04/2011 09:15

Here we get two 2 hour antenatal sessions (with about 30mums in!!) one on pain and one on breastfeeding but everyone says they are awful. Can't justify nct payment but am looking at what groups I can attend. One of my friends is a breastfeeding support worker which I cant work out if is a good or bad thing....might be a little too close for comfort! Blush I bought a pump and some bottles just in case at asda event yesterday that way daddy can get involved too.

No more scans for me unless something comes up. Appointments vary it was every2 weeks from 24 to 28 weeks and now have a 4 week wait until my next one then it goes back to every 2 weeks until birth. My midwife is moving tho and I'll have a completely new to the progression one which I'm not sure I'm too happy about.

Got a wedding today and feeling very self conscious already! Haven't worn heels since about 11 weeks but want to look a bit nicer today but know I will end up on my arse and back in flats! About to start on my hair in an effort to detract from my bingo wings and cankles thank god I am tanned after holiday or I would be pasty AND flabby ha ha. Turns out the bride is pregnant so at least I won't be the only sober one now but she's still in the early days.

Am 29 weeks today, which means 9weeks of the office left! Wooohoooo!

JimmyChoo17 · 30/04/2011 09:19

button with all that money and a lovely family you think she would have brought a smile with her too wouldn't you! I cant stand her ridiculous moody pout, cheer up posh!!!

I am jealous she still can manage heels tho and hasn't got any extra chins Envy

buttonmoon78 · 30/04/2011 09:25

I know. Those heels would make me look like a weeble. That's if I managed to stand up in the first place. And somehow I don't think they'd look right with compression stockings!

I am always a bit Hmm about the way she says she only looks moody cos she's so fed up with the paps being in her face all the time. Well, hello? They hardly were yesterday were they? I sort of think they had bigger fish to fry!

nicolamumof3 · 30/04/2011 09:54

morning all, 29weeks today for me too.

feeling bluergh tho, sick still, will this ever end?? i think not now. My friend still sick as she went in for her section.

dh working today and tomorrow tho so no rest for the wicked. Off to soft play shortly to meet my friend and her boys so that should tire them out a bit and hopefully a quiet afternoon on he cards.

Enjoy your wedding Jimmy, i have one to go to in June i will be 34weeks then!

Eglu · 30/04/2011 12:09

Hi all, I just got a prescription for iron through the post from my GP, following my blood test almost 3 weeks ago. It also says that I need to make an appointment for a fasting blood test as my sugar levels were a bit high. I can't imagine trying to leave the house without having eaten in the morning. I am also a bit worried as I've never had raised sugar before.

Twit · 30/04/2011 13:49

Golly Eglu I can barely stay awake in the morning as it is (I get these weird energy drains) with regular food...
My pelvic girdle (lol) is really stiff and sore again, my hips hurt and click again and I had to have assistance getting my right leg onto the pillow betwixt my legs in bed. My appetite has all but gone and I feel sick again. Added to that my gluten intolerance has returned (which usually comes back about 4-6 months after the baby) and I'm feeling a bit sniffly and itchy-eyed - which is how my hayfever starts (although by now it would normally be way past the itchy eyed stage) Oh and the BH are getting pretty strong now in the afternoon/evening.

Right now I'm aiming to get my hair cut and coloured on 4th June, then tell BabyTwit 'whenever he's ready'. Hopefully he'll give it a few days (at least to 37 weeks) I don't want him too early but not prolonging the aches and pains would be great.

confuddled I hope you are doing ok, I cross my fingers for you each night to 'stay' a bit longer. I too waggle my finger at you about the journey. Oh and I have done an order from Boots of baby stuff etc ready to put in an emergency bag. And made a list of what I'll take (down to the clothes) I like making lists... Grin

I have decided on my labour/birth 'outfit' and crocs (which I have to buy 'cos I normally don't like them) in case my waters go again (they won't get ruined and I can wear them in the shower if I end up in hospital), sorted the 'loungewear' jersey and lycra clothes for after (bottom drawer) and in bed if in hospital (I don't have any maternity pj's and don't want to scare anyone by flashing my stomach which is permanently bared in my normal pjs now)
Next need a cheap shower curtain and washing up bowl and to wash stuff.

Oh and we couldn't fit the drawers into the car at Ikea and so am Sad 'cos I was looking forward to packing it with clothes etc. (Golly, it almost sounded like I was getting excited then didn't it?) Which made me burst into tears Blush but I'm not a brat honest. DH said he'd go today but so far hasn't... although he bought himself some new fecking fish

SOrry for the ramble, I hope everyone is doing ok.

Twit · 30/04/2011 16:21

Oh and I'm back to being desperate for ice chips in water, it is better than sex chocolate and so physical a relief. I've had that in all my pegnancies. It can be a sign of low iron, but so far so good on that front. Also cold raw carrots are my thing, and cucumber is quite good too. Not into sweets or chocolate at all. Bananas are good too.

Eglu · 30/04/2011 17:35

Twit I don't have much of an appetite now. Dinner particularly, if somebody puts something down in front of me I can usually eat it but I think the thought of the heartburn later doesn't help.

I used cheap decorating sheets from B&Q last time to cover things up which was great. We put old duvet covers on top of them to stop the slipperyness. I need to get everything together in one place for when the time comes as I have super fast labours.

SpannerPants · 30/04/2011 18:58

I wish my appetite would calm down a bit Eglu - I managed a 3 course lunch today, which is something I would usually struggle with! I'm still craving dairy and bland things like yogurt and mild cheddar, as well as strawberries which I've never been a big fan of but can quite happily eat a punnet to myself now (with cream of course!)

I went to Boots the other day and got some nappies/breast pads/maternity pads and also got some really good deals on baby clothes in Asda - 2 packs of 7 babygrows for £8!

I've got a wedding to go to in June as well Nicola - DP's brother is getting married and I'll be 38 weeks and the size of a house no doubt. I'm going to try and find a jersey maxi dress to hide my puffy ankles! At least it's only down the road so we won't have to travel far.

DP and I are off for a mini-trip to London tomorrow, we got cheap train tickets and a £29 travelodge near Waterloo so we're going to make the most of it and go to the aquarium and for some nice food, all with 2 for 1 vouchers :) Considering I'm 30 weeks now I feel pretty good, although I'm sure my back won't appreciate all the walking we're planning on doing tomorrow and Monday! He has made me look up emergency labour ward numbers though and I've been told I have to take my notes with me just in case. Does anyone else carry their notes around with them? I don't think I've taken mine anywhere but the hospital/midwife appointments yet, although I know you're meant to carry them.

Twit · 30/04/2011 19:54

Perhaps it's a calcium thing spanner ?
That's a good idea re the decorators sheets. Yes, I'm quick too so tend to have a special box ready where DH knows where it is by 36 weeks ready for home birth or a race to hospital.

buttonmoon78 · 30/04/2011 22:53

Is anyone thinking of using washable nappies? I'm considering them again, having used them with dd2. The problem is that they are now so expensive. 11 years ago I paid £80 for 2 doz. but the same ones now are 3 x as much.

And I don't think our council offers a cash back facility...

LadyGoneGaga · 01/05/2011 09:11

I'm using them after having used them with DS but luckily we still have ours. You can often get second hand ones cheaper on ebay etc. And I suppose disposables will be a lot more expensive than 11 years ago too so proportionately disposables still work out more expensive. Plus don't forget the resale value afterwards.

Am jealous of everyone getting things ready for the birth. We are waiting to move house which will hopefully happen mid-June so no point doing anything until after we've moved Sad

nicolamumof3 · 01/05/2011 11:31

still feeling sick over hear, so bloody draining combined with the spd/pgp my hips really ache today.

going to get boys lunch on in a minute as im starving tho sick, weird that one isn't it?! Then ds2 has a party at 2pm so quiet afternoon just ds3 and me as ds1 at his dads. Have a mountain of washing and ironing too.

Want2bSupermum · 01/05/2011 16:29

I saw on another thread that kick counts are not universally advocated in the UK. My obn group has been on top of me and my kick counts (you start counting at wk 28 here). The link below gives all the information.

countthekicks.org.uk/

I am now 31 weeks and feeling big. My maternity dresses are starting to get tight around my bump. For breastfeeding I have been advised to get myself to the La Leche League. Our friends gave us their breast pump and I still need to order the tubes etc. Actually I need to order a lot of things. We don't have much ready at all.

Twit · 01/05/2011 16:42

I will be using washables once the first one (or two) bigger packs of disposables have gone (really depends on when I can be arsed to start TBH)
I have always been told to keep an eye on the kicks (if it helps make a note for a bit) but nothing else. If I haven't felt something for a bit I give them a poke. Grin

Stangirl · 01/05/2011 20:52

want2besupermum counting kicks positively not advocated in Lambeth. Never been told to do it for any pregnancy. Can't feel much anyway as placenta is anterior.

nicolamumof3 · 01/05/2011 21:25

This baby quite active fortunately. In agony with hips willmhave to find out from mw what I can do struggling

buttonmoon78 · 01/05/2011 21:47

I just typed out a lovely long message but stupid laptop lost it. Angry

So now I'm off to sulk in the bath.

Except for offering sympathy Nic. Are you taking any pain relief? Are you seeing a physio regularly? You really should be doing both. Constant pain truly grinds you down and can make you terribly depressed. I know I was. I was just like you last time and was dreading it happening again, but it all seems a bit better this time. Or whether it's just I was prepared for it so it doesn't seem as bad. It was such a shock last time as I breezed through pgs 1&2.

Pesha · 01/05/2011 22:45

Hips, back etc really bad here too. Not too bad in the mornings but I'm very limited in what I can do and by tea time I'm really struggling just to walk. I really hate not being able to get on and do the things I want to do but having to rely on dp instead. Also struggling with nausea still, its either nausea or heartburn! Have also lost my appetite and can fit very little food in now!!

Spent 3 hours in A&E with ds2 last night. He "timbered" on the sofa but the cushion he was heading for fell off and he landed nose first on the arm of the sofa which is padded but turns out has a rather hard ridge underneath! His nose bled a little bit but had a definite bump on one side and indent on the other and he really cried which is unusual for him Sad But by time we saw a dr his nose was twice the size all over from swelling so we have to wait a few days for swelling to go down and if it still looks wonky then then we'll have to take him back to a&e. My poor baby looks awful though and I'm a bit paranoid about him bumping it and making it worse, 4 yo boys not known for their calm, careful nature!! Anyone know what they do to fix it if it is broken as hes just a child?

Been to Ikea today and spent a small fortune! Have bought some of their Stuva stuff for the boy's room so hopefully can get that built soon (again having to rely on DP to do most of it whereas normally I'd just get on and do it myself) and then i can start washing baby clothes and have somewhere to put them all, yay! Not thinking about the fact that I'm supposed to be painting the room and getting carpet down first, can't see any way that thats going to happen TBH. I sat on the floor for half an hour to wrap ds2's presents last week and couldn't walk anywhere without my crutches for the next 2 days so theres no way I can manage painting with all the cutting in and bending etc required.

Cannot remember what else I was going to say as far too tired to think straight! Off to bed now I think.

nicolamumof3 · 02/05/2011 08:26

Pesha you sound just like me Sad

button I am seeing physio she is great i have support belt, exercises to do but it is getting much worse. I dread to think how I would cope if given crutches. My two youngest are five and three and we have to walk most places they like to hold hands, and crossing roads etc, shopping, how would i get on? I know people are alot worse so i need to get a grip just yesterday was a very bad day. Hips feel better today, my back hurts but i can do back pain thats ok.

What pain killers can they give me? Codeine makes me sick was given that for migraines in pg. Im falling apart think my body def saying im too old and unfit for this!! Sorry for the moan moan moan, it is depressing button you are right, such a busy person i hate being like this.

buttonmoon78 · 02/05/2011 08:35

I know - it really gets you down, so whinge away.

Ask about codeine again - it's possible they could combine it with some sort of antiemetic. What about at night? Are you sleeping? Again, it was codeine based, but I had a super-drowsy version for nights which got me through the last 12 or so weeks.

Crutches with small children is not a big deal - get yourself some of those wrist links. That way you can have them at a fixed length and get them to come closer to cross roads and stuff. Crutches would probably help you a lot - you just need to think outside the box for solutions when problems crop up.

Is there any option other than walking? Walking really won't be doing you much good at all.

Yes, other people may be worse, but this is your life and the fact that there are others worse off doesn't mean that you can't feel bad!

Twit · 02/05/2011 08:38

You both sound like me. Sad I don't think I could manage with crutches for the school run either. Am seeing MW on Weds so will ask about pain relief, paracetamol helps in the morning but not so much in the afternoon/evening. I have found a hot water bottle can help ease when I go to bed as well but getting up in the night is horrendous.
Do you find the weather influences how bad it is going to be? I find the warm dry days better than the damp colder ones. (probably obvious really Blush )
The skin on the underside of my (massive) bump is red and itchy so not very comfy I have found Aveeno lotion is nice and soothing for that.
I have my chest of drawers so can finally start washing and filling it ready for BabyTwit. Yay!!
Yikes, have got Tescos coming between 9 & 11 so had better get dressed.
I hope everyone has a good day, the kids are back at school Wednesday so yay (for them naturally Wink )

buttonmoon78 · 02/05/2011 08:50

Ha ha Twit I've got the Sky man coming anytime between 8 and 1. I'm working on reverse psychology. If I stay here (in bed) in my mankiest pjs on the laptop then he'll be here sooner. If I get up and am ready and waiting looking tidy then he won't get here til 1. Need to go into town to buy dd1 some sandals so would like him to be early rather than late.

In the night (I know this is far easier said than done) you really, really need to give yourself a minute to engage all your muscles before moving. I know it's hard esp when the only reason you're awake is that your bladder has suddenly grown to monster proportions and might burst, but it really helps.

Also, if you can still get in and out ok, a warm bath each night helps. I'm finding that v good at the moment but last time I was totally unable to get in or out at this stage so I used to have a shower every night and stand braced against the wall so all the hot water would directly hit my lower back.

nicolamumof3 · 02/05/2011 08:59

i find standing in the shower quite tricky, without my belt on standing is hard work.

Baths easier going to have one now with radox but dreading getting out. The thing that no one understands the pain unless they've been through it. DH gives me a sympathetic look but doesn't really understand. He works long strange hours being a chef, so some days are very long and wearing. I've explained to boys i can't get down onto floor and they pick things up for me. DS3 still sometimes asks for a carry tho which i couldn't even contemplate!!

Have mw on weds so will discuss with her. Physio in a couple of weeks. Think i need to go back to the bigger belt, it was quite uncomfy as would dig in under my bump as wide and hard to get it to stay in posistion. But this other belt not much use either.

I do feel totally drained with it all, so think i shall make gps apt to discuss pain relief as i have at least another 11 weeks to go. Can't give up.

Night time is hell i lie there waiting for the morning, hips ache so much i do turn and get up very carefully im quite good at that now! I could cry my eyes out right now tbh. DH gone back to bed as he's 'tired' and boys running riot. Im off to run a bath.

oh and i don't have much option to the walking as i don't drive.

buttonmoon78 · 02/05/2011 09:20

Ask to see if you can bring physio forwards. Serola belts are the rolls royce of belts - I love mine.

When you see mw/physio ask for a referral to the occupational therapist - you could get a shower chair. Not v glam admittedly but if it helps!

You must get some pain relief asap. You don't have to suffer this way. I don't know how you feel about this but I ended up being induced 2 weeks early as I was in so much pain last time.

Good luck and don't feel bad about moaning - you're absolutely right. Unless you've been there you have no idea! After all - you're only pregnant right?! Hmm

I tell you what though - I'm a perpetually broody person, but I think that this pg has really taken its toll on me and I'm almost hoping for a section so I can get a ligation at the same time Grin. I truly can't ever imagine wanting to do this again.

4 sounds like a nice round number to me. I'm stopping there!
