Executive decision that at 987 posts we're moving over!

New challenge - can we fill up 1000 posts before the first babies arrive, given that we managed to keep our legs crossed all through the last one?!

First babies are due, officially, next month but are there any in such a hurry to see the world that they can beat our chatting?

Cycle that sucks - so lame of people. I hope your sister guilt-trips them to the hilt.

Took the girls swimming although I would rather have chopped off my arm as I was knackered and resolutely not in the mood for doing it. I have been a useless mother for most of this pregnancy and would have paid money to be able to lie on my bed and sleep this afternoon. .

To cap it all, having cooked a nutritionally balanced dinner for us all, I now have one of my daughters nagging me to play with her train set with her. SCREEAAAAAAAAAAAM!!

kittycatcat · 20/03/2011 18:37

Happy anniversary beetle

cycle that's utter pants

The nursery is finished and it looks bloody fantastic :-) will put pics on at some point

Cyclebump · 20/03/2011 19:09

Thanks everyone, it was lame of them frankly. Three had valid believable excuses but the rest I'm sceptical. Ended up going for delicious curry with my family and still got all the pressies! Mum bought me an amazing stripy hippy style sling. Have already practised with a pillow Smile

My sister had made a cake with a glittery womb iced on it! There was a baby in the womb and everything, hilarious!

Baby also got some books that were childhood favourites of people, some amazing little clothes (including little dungarees and a bandana), little sheep shoes and, from my sister's rugby mad fiancé, a Harlequins babygro and blanket.

People had also contributed to a nappy fund so I'll be able to get the rest of the reusables I need.

All the pressies, and seeing the whole family (it never happens) so actually it worked out as a fun stress-free afternoon.

Plus I came home to more of the kitchen completed by an exhausted looking DP.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/03/2011 19:23

Shame about the shite dropping out friends cycle, but the presents sound lovely - especially the books Smile The cake sounds fab as well!

YY to too much fruit and carbs and no protein and veg Ali. I think the only protein ds has had in the past week is ham and the veg has been cucumber Blush Mind you, is cucumber a veg or a salad??!!

Well done on finishing the nursery kitty, can't wait to see the pictures.

I had BH's for 2 hours solid this afternoon and they only went when I had a bath, God it was painful. DS has also decided to firmly wedge himself under my rib and will not budge.

1stTimeMother · 20/03/2011 19:40

Cycle sounds like you had a fab family baby shower anyway - I'm sorry your friends were so rubbish but the presents & cake & curry sound awesome - I'd love something like that. Might have to hint to my sister!

After whining about DH getting his arse in gear - he is still outside working on the sheds, having been out there all day. Now I feel guilty. Have made him a great supper in return, although shouting at him for cooking bacon whilst I had ALL the muslins & baby gro's freshly washed and out drying possibly wasn't the nicest thing I could have done today. Blame those hormones again...

JustKeepSwimming · 20/03/2011 19:51

Cycle - i wish i'd been there, esp to see the cake!
Have you got a teddy to practice with the sling? slightly better than a pillow Grin

In pjs watching a CSI then off to bed. Dh got into my bad books last night by staying up late drinking, when he'd said he was coming to bed so i'd left his light on, then he snored to beat all snoring until i shouted at him.

Hoping for a better night tonight :)

BeetleBaby · 20/03/2011 20:32

Cycle the cake sounds amazing! (Cake is always good, but glittery cake = WIN!) I'm glad you had a great day anyway (curry also = WIN Smile ) and hope your sister is able to sufficiently guilt trip those that deserve it.

Kitty can't wait to see the nursery pics. Ours is finished except for the walls having no pictures up as yet which means it looks great until you look above chest height at which point the room looks a little naked!

Petal Ali & Stuffed I too feel like nothing is going to happen anytime soon despite feeling like an ever expanding hippo with aches all in my lower back and the 'underneath' of the bump Sad

Kits Scream away, it sounds like you need it!

I hope all DH/P that were in the bad books are redeeming themselves and thanks for the congratulations. We've celebrated with (veggie) Sunday dinner and home made apple crumble, more exciting celebrations (to hopefully include actually leaving the house and maybe having some Wine ) have been delayed until next year!

kittycatcat · 20/03/2011 20:39

No pics up here yet either beetle. a friend is cross stitching kittens name for me so that will go up.

JenAT · 20/03/2011 20:59

cycle your baby shower sounds like it was lovely despite being let down last minute by your friends. Very impressed by the womb cake!

Had a trip to maternity triage today because of excruciating in pain in my left side. Last week was on antibiotics for chest infection and for last few days I have been getting worsening pain in my side whenever I move. Today I just couldn't cope and the pain was making me cry. Checked over and all is fine with baby, they think I have probably pulled a muscle from coughing but the pain is horrendous. I have been told to rest and do nothing, which is ok as I physically can't even bend without crying out in pain.

Has anyone else had anything similar? I just hope to god it settles a little over the next few days. Dd has had to go to my parents as I can't look after her but I'm sure she will be spoilt rotten by them. Feeling pretty sorry for myself at the moment. I've had enough of this pregnancy lark now!

Cyclebump · 20/03/2011 21:13

Not had it while pg but have pulled a muscle from coughing before and it's SO painful, poor you x

My lovely cousin who lives in Brussels has just rung to send her love. She sent loads of her baby stuff for me and has been so lovely, was great to hear from her.

Sounds like we're all bored of pregnancy now, I've tried the spicy food anyone else attempting any home remedies to hurry things along?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/03/2011 21:17

Oh Jen that sounds a nightmare :( At least you really can rest knowing your DD is being looked after, hope you are feeling better soon!

Cycle - what a lovely day, and what lovely pressies! :)

Beetle - Happy Anniversary! I told DH earlier that you had described yourself as a small, fat, hippo and that I felt exactly the same. He told me I was the most beautiful hippo he had ever met Grin

JKS - DH was a bit drunk (was his birthday) and therefore snoring last night. MIL was staying so I couldn't boot him to the spare room as I normally would either!!

kits - you are a hero for even attempting the swimming! The most exciting thing I did for DS today was assist with a Gruffalo sticker book and some colouring. DH and MIL were here to pick up the slack......

ILTMI - cucumber counts as veg, I am sure! Grin Managed better on the food front today, DS had pancakes (therefore egg!) for breakfast and chicken with veg for tea. Not sure about tomorrow though Hmm

I think this baby has un-engaged itself Hmm. Feeling much less pressure on my cervix etc, and the boney bit I believe is it's bottom is higher up.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/03/2011 21:19

I'm not bothering this time. I ate my own body weight in pineapple when I was at this point with DS, and tried curry, sex and various other things. It made not a jot of difference Grin

Cyclebump · 20/03/2011 21:27

Hmmmm, perhaps I could try the walking at night thing.

lucielooo · 20/03/2011 21:30

Definitely not! I'm due in 3 weeks and have a presentation scan tomorrow to check that baby isn't breech. I'm booked for a homebirth but until haven't ordered pool or bought any homebirth kit. No bag packed. Furniture still needs painting in nursery. DP is on about page 4 of the Very Important Birth Book I would like him to read and I am very definitely not ready to give birth!

You know this means the baby will come early.... :)

LisMcA · 20/03/2011 21:41

What things can we try?

I've heard of Clary Sage, reflexology, sex, curry, bumpy ride in the car. What else?

I'd never heard of pineapple before.

I'm not 37 weeks til next Saturday, but I want to stockup on things this week.

Does anyone now if your MW will do a sweep before your due date?

lucielooo · 20/03/2011 21:45

apparently walking up and down stairs? pineapple is supposed to work as it has the same chemicals as in sperm, but it needs to be fresh pineapple and it needs to be the middle bit preferrably, tinned pineapple will do sh*t all...

LisMcA · 20/03/2011 21:53

do you eat the pineapple or, ahem, use it like a suppository?

Stairs are out for me!

Oh well! I'll just sit it out til he wants to come!

Petalouda · 20/03/2011 21:57

Isn't the thing with pineapple something like that to have any actual effect, you'd have to eat 8kg of pineapple within 30 seconds to get enough of the chemical?

And the curry thing - is asia filled with premmie babies? I think not! And I've not stopped the curry throughout.

Bumpy ride in the car - been doing that one daily since xmas when my lift-share got a puppy, which we have had to drop off at doggy-day-care down a massively potholed road.

Heard nothing about clary sage, and I'm never having sex again.

I'm working on the principle that it'll happen when it's ready (induction notwithstanding), and unless I get really desperate, I'm still not doing the do!

And, no, I won't get excited about these BHs tonight, or the backache, or the massive pressure. And don't you go saying anything about it either! Because that'd just be embarrassing when it's still nothing tomorrow morning!

rant rant rant rant rant!

lucielooo · 20/03/2011 22:01

you eat it Lis :) :)
The curry is supposed to work if it is hot enough to give you a dodgy tum, as it's that which aggravates the uterus and sends you into labour apparently..

As it's nothing petal I defintely won't be watching with interest ;)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/03/2011 22:04

Most of the induction methods are a load of old shite imo. The baby will come when it is ready, although I don't doubt that if the baby is good and ready some of the methods will help move along the inevitable.

Clary sage - can be good for when established contractions slow down. I sniffed it our of curiosity when very pg with ds2 and it gave me wicked BH's but nothing else.

raspberry leaf tea - tones the uterus, it will not do anything to bring on labour.

Sex - this may (or may not) have helped ds2 along the way.

Reflexology - this may (or may not) have helped ds1 along. I had it done on the Friday and started contracting that night - but I was 9 days overdue at that point.

Sweep - had one with ds1 at 40 weeks. My cervix was in no way favourable for a sweep, it was bloody painful and done fuck all. I wish she had told me it wasn't favourable because I would have told her not to bother - especially as a sweep holds the risk of introducing infection. I wouldn't say no to a sweep again, but I would only have one if my cervix was favourable.

Bumpy car ride - maybe this would work if your waters are bulging? But would you want to break your waters ahead of when the baby is ready? You run the risk of infection.

Castor oil - Some say it works but apparantly it is very painful and who wants the shits in labour?

Pineapple - I never heard anyone say that this works and if the theory is correct you have to eat about 12 or something stupid.

Curry or anything spicy - the theory is to eat something that gives you the shits, that way the spasm of the bowel stimulated the uterus to contract. See my comment about castor oil!!

There you go, my bar-room opinions on natural induction methods Grin

In short, save yourself money, effort and upset by not bothering. You'd be better off spending the money on some decent chocolate and a facial!!

lisMcA - my feelings towards sweeps aside(!), most MW's would not give you a sweep before 40 weeks.

JenAT · 20/03/2011 22:33

iliketomoveitmoveit totally agree with you. I think baby comes when it's ready. Although some of my friends are convinced that having sex definitely kick started their labours. I too had a sweep at 40 weeks, and it was bloody painful and did jack shit. I went to 42 weeks before being induced.

LisMcA pineapple suppositories, Hmm may give you a bit of ring sting!

Petalouda I agree, there is no way in my current state I could even contemplate sex.

Beetle happy anniversary.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/03/2011 23:29

I agree about sweeps. They gave me one in hospital when I went in to be induced, and holy hell it hurt. It was worse than the 24 hours of back-to-back labour that followed.
My midwife this time asked if I wanted one last Thursday and I told her not a bloody chance Grin

And there is no hope of shagging here, SPD preventing that for sure!

Liv77 · 20/03/2011 23:47

kits I also went swimming with DS today but at least DH came too so I could just wallow like a hippo at the side of the learner pool. I second the feeling like a crap mother, I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat during the daytime when DS is around but still can't get to sleep before midnight even if I don't nap.

Ali Was your Gruffalo sticker book the Comic Relief one? We have it and I keep finding red nose stickers all over the house. Most recently on the loo roll holder when I changed the roll Confused I think DS must have been keeping himself busy when I nodded off on the sofa on friday afternoon Blush. LOL at your comment about brown clothes, DS is very attached to his brown coat which is for 18m-2years and therefore now only just fits. I've bought him 2 more lovely coats but he only wants the brown one. He does seem a bit obsessed with coats though and will tell you the colour of coat wore by all his pre-school classmates. I think it's an early sign of that male trait of collating/remembering useless information. He's definately his father's son Grin

Jen Ouch, sending hugs your way and some very strong virtual painkillers. Glad to hear your parents are helping out with DD.

MrsWajs You have my sympathy regarding DSS poofest. When I did the preschool pickup on Thurs ds only had one of his brand new shoes on. I asked where the other was, it was on the radiator drying as he'd had a massive runny poo that had gone all the way down his trouser leg and into his shoe. Luckily the shoe is brown so if there are any stains they don't show up.

Petalouda · 21/03/2011 07:23

See, nothing.

Although I do seem to have sweated 90% of my bodyweight last night, which surely will make me feel better about existance when I finally wedge myself out of bed today!

MW this morning...

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 21/03/2011 08:11

Liv I am the same with the sleeping. DH is having the same problem. We've decided that it's because we remember craving time to ourselves when DS was a newborn, almost more than sleep and so we're getting nice long evenings in now - in preparation for not having them very soon!!
Yes that's the one, noses all over the place here too! Grin
DS' obsession is with cars. Who drives what, where they go in it, what colour it is, etc etc. He isn't his father's son either, oh no Hmm

Petal - you poor thing. Hard as it is being this pregnant with a toddler to look after, at least I have something to take my mind off how rubbish I feel and the imminent arrival!
Hope the midwife goes well this morning :)
