Executive decision that at 987 posts we're moving over!

New challenge - can we fill up 1000 posts before the first babies arrive, given that we managed to keep our legs crossed all through the last one?!

First babies are due, officially, next month but are there any in such a hurry to see the world that they can beat our chatting?

OP posts:

kittycatcat · 24/02/2011 17:29

My mate used her gym ball to get her dd to move from breech so maybe that?

kitstwins · 24/02/2011 18:47

Lucieloo - I think so. Anywhere that stocks the Rachel's stuff as I haven't seen it by any other brand. Any full fat, cream-based, yoghurt would be good but the coconut really helps boost your milk.

Lisa Another milk booster is fennel tea (revolting but actually it becomes strangely palate cleansing after a while...). Also if you're not keen on almonds you can always have them in cake. Almond-based cakes that use ground almonds alongside or as a flour replacement are really good for milk. Nigella has a few ground almond based ones including a fab chocolate one. I plan to make a few, cut them into halves and stuff them in the freezer for when I'm out of hospital. I found cake a Godsend when I was breastfeeding last time - really comforting when I was feeling a bit battered and sorry for myself, sweet (which I really craved for the energy) but also really good for milk quality given all the butter, eggs, almond, etc. in it. Plus chocolate cake was great for giving a mini caffeine hit/energy boost without having to reach for the double latte.

Right, that's it! I'm going to do some baking this weekend!! And try not to eat it all in the six steps from oven to freezer...

kitstwins · 24/02/2011 18:51

Lisa forgot to add - is the baby breech and kicking or head down and punching? If it's breech then try spending some time on all fours or on a gym ball (check out www.spinningbabies.com as they've got good advice on optimal positioning). If the baby is head down and just having a good old punch then I'd still do some 'all fours' time as it might encourage him/her to shift a bit and punch somewhere else instead.

LisMcA · 24/02/2011 19:07

He's head down according to scan on Tuesday, so punching rather than kicking. I'm half expecting to have a wee look with amirror later and see a little hand waving back :o "Hello Mum"

Good shout on the cake! I have been freezer stocking all week so will have to make room for the cake!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/02/2011 19:18

Right-o, third time lucky. For some reason whenever I tried to post on the thread via Frakk's link it wouldn't accept my post. Is that because it's a mobile thread?

Many many congratulations Jo and welcome to the world Conor. I'm sending you lots of love and strength vibes to get through this wonderful and stressful time xxx

I didn't know coconut was good for your milk supply. I bloody love that Rachel Yoghurt with coconut, it's really rich, sweet and fatty - but in a good way.

Another good thing for lactation is oats, so porridge and flapjacks here I come as well. I previously tried fenugreek capsules to boost milk supply, apart from the fact that I'm not sure if they worked, they made me bloody stink. My wee and sweat smelt of curry - totally vile. I should say here that I'm not one to sweat, but I am partial to a post partum sweat/drenching or two Blush

A warning on Nature care nappies - the newborn size are rather large and will probably be too big for most newborns. DS was 9lb 11oz and we used the Huggies newborns on him at first as the Nature Care were too big. After the Huggies though I'm a Nature Care fan all the way, imo they're the best disposable, there has never been nappy rash in this house!

LittleMilla · 24/02/2011 19:24

Loving the shopping chatter. I'm using baby as an opportunity to get bag by a lady called Ally Capalino. Not entirely sure if it'll be the most practical, but I love it allycapellino.co.uk/mummy-bag-aw10.html. My friends want to hold a baby shower so I have asked for some vouchers to help take the sting out!

Had our buggy delivered and they've sent us the wrong colour. I was after a stone/black one but they've sent this instead www.babyjogger.com/city_mini_sngl_dtl.aspx in green/grey. As you can prob tell from my bag choice, I quite dig the utilitarian thing. However, I am a little but worried cause we don't know if it's a boy or girl. We got it new on eBay and the guy has refunded us £55 to keep it as it's a faff for him to collect. So it's cost us £120...whcih I am quite happy with.

Does anyone have strong views about boy/girl kit or keeping things gender neutral. I am obviously pretty laissez-faire, but it'd be good to hear others' thoughts.

LittleMilla · 24/02/2011 19:27

Oh, and I am slightly Blush about the whole nips chat. I thought I was being a bit of a wally...but you've convinced me otherwise. Although I am not sure I can face any nail brush action . I'll cross that paiin barrier once duff duff arrives.

Oh and for the person asking about moving baby. I have to physically push mine when he/she wedges itself in the far crevice of my tum or up against my ribs. A pilates exercise on all fours where you do a sort of hula-hoop also helps!

BeetleBaby · 24/02/2011 19:35

Wow everyone was chatty today, I like getting home to a nice chunk of messages to read Smile

kits I'm now craving coconut yogurt as well, the cherry I have in just isn't hitting the spot anymore! I do like knowing that I can indulge on cake and yogurt (always on my top foods list, even when not pregnant!) and justify it all as to benefit Little Insect Wink

Lis I know just what you mean about the hands! Mine is head down but I still often feel a little hand resting on my hip when I'm sat or laid down.

Has anyone else found that as the baby engages they get more coxcyx (sp?!) pain? My sciatica is much better for Little Insect moving but now the very base of my spine is sore and swollen. Coupled with the 'I've-just-ridden-a-bicycle-for-the-first-time-in- years' type pelvic aches 'tis making life a joy!

I'm now going to go look at changing bags I wish I could justify buying but know that I wouldn't use. I have annoyingly narrow shoulders and always go back to using the same backpack as it's the only one I've found that stays on!

BeetleBaby · 24/02/2011 19:43

milla we don't know whether we're having a boy or girl either but didn't really think about it when buying the pram! Ours is the M&P Sola in 'grass' (known to us mere mortals as 'green with black bits...).

TBH apart from avoiding pink (which I just don't particularly like as a colour) we've bought what we like in the colours we like! If Little Insect is a boy he'll be wearing purple stars and if a girl she'll be wearing blue and green with cars on!

caramellokoalalover · 24/02/2011 19:48

kitstwins I made a flourless chocolate cake on Tuesday that I'm still scoffing my way through and now thanks to you I can do it completely guilt-free knowing I am working on my milk supply. Excellent news.

I second the plea to get plenty of cakes in the freezer for the early days too. Lemon drizzle cake works a treat in the freezer (the Nigella recipe on BBC Good Food is foolproof) and banana bread/loaf is fantastic for freezing too. You will LOVE yourself silly when you can defrost some cake to have with a Brew in the early days when the house is a bombsite and you can barely see from the tiredness. Domestic goddess feelings of contentment = check!

LittleMilla · 24/02/2011 19:53

Beetle - I like that a lot. You've made me feel better, thanks!

Cakes - mmmmmmmmm. Got tomorrow off work and will be baking for my DH's birthday this weekend. Suggestions are inspiring me!

AprilMeadow · 24/02/2011 21:03

Massive Congratulations JoEW on the arrival of baby Conor xxx

Liv77 · 24/02/2011 23:34

Congratulations JoEW, wishing you and Conor all the best (love the name too).

How are people going with names?
We still can't decide on names for DC2. I found it so easy with DS as i knew what sex he was and had a name we both liked from very early on. We're finding it much harder this time. We decided not to find out the sex. DH isn't mad keen on any of the names i've suggested but has only given me about 2 he's thought of which I don't particularly like.Hmm
I've told him that unless he comes up with a few more options i'm going with my choices regardless Grin

MrsWajs · 25/02/2011 02:18

Congratulations JoEW on baby Conor!! Must have been a bit of a whirlwind for you but sounds like he's doing really well!

Can't believe there are 3 pages of the new thread already - I do rather like the title Grin

Have told myself that I'm going to make a concerted effort to post more often as I've been a bit lax but I am always lurking!

Was a bit Shock reading the nipple posts from yesterday but also intrigued so went home and had a little fiddle with mine - there does indeed seem to be something watery in the left but nothing from the right?? Maybe still a bit too early at 31+5??

Have managed to put back on my missing 4lbs from last week so all is right in the world again.

Re: changing bags, I have the skip hop dash deluxe not really seen or heard much about them for others but I liked the look of it so bought it!! Can't financially justify a pacapod or similar and had considered a cath kidston bag also but then common sense prevailed and I got a neutral looking one a) because DP would never use a bag with flowers on it and b) so that if I lose my mind in the future and decide to do all this again, it can be re-used if future child/children are boys!!

My first choice of name for babyWajs was and still is Imogen but DP hates it because of the girl from Big Brother (who now regularly features in mags such as Zoo and FHM with her chest on display!!) according to him it's a tarty name!!!??? Apologies to anyone on this thread called Imogen!! His favourite just now is Katie (Jordan anyone??!) consequently we can't agree on a name at all. Charlotte is the only name coming close at the moment, which we both do like but DPs surname begins with 'Sh' so am worried it's a bit too Sh..Sh IYSWIM?
Middle name is definately going to be Rose so no 'R' first names allowed either.....Confused I soo didn't think it would be this difficult!!

JustKeepSwimming · 25/02/2011 07:02

I like Imogen :)
And have never heard of the BB person.

I like Katie too and i think most people wouldn't think of KP once they met your LO.

We've got Mary or George, though DH did say that if it's born on the 29th maybe we should go for William....I like the name William but I'm Irish and not much of a royalist really Hmm maybe George William. But then could be George Dubya!

Anyway, another tmi topic....piles. Anyone got them/ever had them? I've managed 2 pgs without them but i think i've got them now :( I'm gutted and need a positive story about them going away, before the birth would be nice as i'm already worrying about the pushing stage.
Blush

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/02/2011 07:56

I'm due on the 29th so I get lots of people asking me if I'm calling the baby William Grin. Er no, the biggest reason being that my sisters cat is called William!

I like the name Katie, but think there will be lots of Kate's, Katy's and Katherines this year because of the royal wedding.

I like the name Imogen and I know who you mean from BB, but I don't associate her with that name - iyswim.

Charlotte is lovely too.

Here is my fantasy girls name list:

Romola
Constance
Patience
Orla
Nell
Bess
Edie

Sorry, I know nothing about piles JKS, have a look around on MN there is bound to be some great advice about them.

1stTimeMother · 25/02/2011 07:59

Anyone with previous use of changing bags got any suggestions on what is good to get? I still can't decide... love the Pacapod but it is quite expensive & doesn't seem to have that much space in the main body of the bag... but then again I haven't a clue what I need.

32 weeks today - prawn is like an alien on the movement front, really doesn't like me sleeping either

Petalouda · 25/02/2011 08:12

Morning!

1st love the Alien reference. I've watched the films this week for the first time, and agree completely! I'm quite amazed I haven't given myself nightmares! Although I won't be surprised if I have an alien-based freak-out during labour now!

36 weeks today! Off to buy nursing bras.

MrsWajs · 25/02/2011 08:17

JKS My brother suggested Mary for LO too but being from Scotland it is sometimes not pronounced in a very flattering way! Think - Still Game (if you've ever seen it?) Same problem applies for Katie and Charlotte really, where I live people drop their T's a lot too. However I guess I could find a problem with any name if I'm going to use dialect as an issue!!

ILTMI Edie is also on my fantasy list but DP not keen on that either! Hadn't even thought about the Katie/royal wedding link but will now be using it as my excuse. I don't dislike the name I just don't want to call my daughter that! I was only making the Jordan reference for DPs benefit, if Imogen is ruled out on the basis of it being a page 3 girls name then so should Katie!! But then again it leaves a very limited choice for names altgether if that's the case!! Hmm

JustKeepSwimming · 25/02/2011 08:18

Lol MrsWajs - depends how well you know all the page 3 girls Wink

I have ruled out Peter on the basis that in Essex most people would drop the 't', pee-urr just isn't the same.

LittleMilla · 25/02/2011 08:45

ILTMI I like most of your names, actually. I know someone that's just named their little girl Clementine (Clemmie) which I really like too. I've got a couple fo really random girls names too, which I won't post for fear of Blush.

Met a boy called Ned yesterday, which is short for Edward...which I quite liked. I also like Ted though [hmmm] but cannot decide if either are just a bit old man ish? I also love Rufus, bur our surname begins with R and my DH reckons it's a dog's name. Any thoughts on here??

MrsWajs I have a much younger cousin called Imogen who is beautiful, so only positive associations for me too! I wouldn't expect many to make the BB association TBH. Keep on campaigning...!

BTW - I have made a pact that i'll do more posting and less lurking...

kittycatcat · 25/02/2011 08:50

Morning all. I was ill last night. Upset tum. Made me all panicky and paranoid and i lay awake for about an hour worrying and trying to get Kitten to move.

We are going for Sam. He will be Samuel on his BC but Sam. Sam James R... if a girl he was going to be Isabella.

I like Imogen. I have a friend called Imogen and she isnt at all tarty ;-)

My brother was born the same year as Prince William and yes you guessed it. He is called William. So i am off the hook with that one.

MrsWajs i have more in one nip than the other too.

JKS i like Mary and George :) My original due date was St Geroges Day - 23rd so George would have been perfect.

Ilike i like Orla alot, v unusual.

Jaylar · 25/02/2011 09:08

ILTMI - I love all your names. My daughter is called Eden and I thought it would get shortened to Edie but hasn't happened yet. I'm too much of a coward to post our short-list which is far from agreed on. My DP is an aging hippy who wants another nature name. But some of his suggestions are a bit out there e.g. Quercus for a boy. For those of you not familiar with tree taxonomy it's the Latin term for oak?!?

At least he is open to the unusual.

Petalouda · 25/02/2011 09:09

Milla I love Rufus, but DH vetoed immediately. For me it was the Bill & Ted connection! Also Deacon, for the same reason, but an old friend has named her DS that.

If we were having a girl, she'd be Tabitha, for definite!

Another old friend has just called her DD Imogen. It's classic and lovely! My best friend is a Katie, and she reminds me of Miss Honey from Matilda, which overrides any negative connotations!

Our LO's name has almost been approved by DH. I think it's quite classic, and I like it for the tenuous science connection, but it's gaining in popularity. So I'm trying to ignore it's trendy-ness.

Petalouda · 25/02/2011 09:11

Ooh, Jaylar, I love nature names!

Cedar would be another serious contender if we were having a girl!
