Executive decision that at 987 posts we're moving over!

New challenge - can we fill up 1000 posts before the first babies arrive, given that we managed to keep our legs crossed all through the last one?!

First babies are due, officially, next month but are there any in such a hurry to see the world that they can beat our chatting?

Re donating, well the best source of info is: here
location seems to be the key.
Some places collect which is fab, or some will let you drive there and drop it off even if live a bit far away, though obv that's a hassle if it's not somewhere you'd go normally.

My 2 closest are Cambridge & Gillingham, neither that close really. Cambridge would let me drop off but i can't see myself driving there every 6ish weeks with 3 DC!
Have also emailed St Thomas' in London as DH could drop it off for me, if we worked out the logistics, but no reply yet.

caramellokoalalover · 14/03/2011 17:14

Lis hope your family are all ok.

SJ I had same urge to buy everything for hospital bag over the weekend too. Nealry killed me. Problem now is that I want to wear all the comfy clothes I bought for me to wear pre/post birth. I can bet that when I go into labour all my things for the bag will be in the wash! But I can't go 5 weeks with them tempting me with their comfiness.

stuffedmk · 14/03/2011 17:17

chips Even though I'm due in 3 weeks I keep telling myself that in 5 weeks I'll have my baby, even adding an extra 2 weeks onto the end it really is getting close isn't it Grin can't wait.

Lis hope FIL gets better soon.

Have done about a quarter of my essay now so think I'll carry on tomorrow...quite how I've got that much done while spending so much time MNing I don't know, just think how productive my day could have been if I could just FOCUS Wink

MrsWajs · 14/03/2011 17:32

Afternoon all!

Been lurking again as been on dayshft, however that's me now on ML!! At long last! Was 34 weeks yesterday and had MW appt today - didn't really go quite as I'd liked :( Was hoping for a straight forward everythings good, baby is head down type affair but no, instead have glucose in my urine, fundal height is meausring 2 cm less and needed to have haemagolbin re-checked again as been havng palpitations!

I know that they don't really worry about fundal height unless it's 3cm or more out but given that I was only 31.5cm 2 weeks ago and 32cm today I haven't grown much at all, still not put on any weight in the last few weeks either so have to go back again in a week and get it checked out.
As for the glucose in my urine, I'm hoping it was just a random odd result, if I have it again at any point I have to have a GTT done but is it possible to develop GD so late in the day?? Thought if that was gonna happen it would have done so earlier than this and anyway I thought it was more likely that I'd be measurng bigger if I had GD??!!

Sorry a very me me me post, will try and keep up a bit better now I'm on ML. :)

lucielooo · 14/03/2011 17:50

Can't answer your questions about GD MrsWajs except to say I'm in the same boat. I had sugar in my urine sample at my 34 week appt and mw said that same, that she'd keep an eye on it at my next appt (on weds) and see what happens. She did say though that for some women in late pregnancy their kidneys don't function as well which is why there can be sugar, it doesn't necessarily mean GD. And you are right usually uncontrolled GD can mean bigger babies. I'm measuring 1-2cm big for dates and have been since 25 weeks. It sounds to me like you shouldn't worry too much about it but I know that can be easier said than done - and I guess it can't harm to keep an eye on your sugar intake at this stage.

Congrats on being on ML now though! I've still got the rest of this week to go!

Cyclebump · 14/03/2011 18:00

Whoa! Big posting day.

Hugs to all those with family and pregnancy issues. Clearly we do not need the stress and it's certainly put my niggles into perspective!

NotAnotherNewNappy · 14/03/2011 18:10

I've been enjoying a nesting extravaganza today. I feel a bit sick and have the runs, which is exactly how labour started last time, so I finished packing my hospital bag, made x4 family portions of chilli and - most importantly - finally got around to dying my roots. Come on baby, I am ready fir all those post birth pics now Grin

For those of you who can't seem to get around to packing your bag... Last time I packed in one big go and found it quite emotional and overwhelming. This time I just left the bag in the corner of our bedroom and added things as and when I thought of them - much easier to stay in denial about what's about to happen that way!

My bump is sore from the inside. It feels like DD2 has been kicking the same spot over and over.

Who will be watching OBEM tonight? DH even said he was looking forward to it Hmm

Petalouda · 14/03/2011 18:16

Hey MrsW, I've had glucose in my urine every single time! I had the GTT at about 28 weeks, and was under the impression that it was only accurate at about that time Hmm.

But, GTT was negative - so having glucose in your urine doesn't necessarily mean you'll have GD, so try not to worry.

My belly had hardly grown between my last 2 appointments. I've been measuring off the top line all the way through. MW didn't seem to be concerned by either of these things. Next appointment's next monday, although I'm hoping I won't get there Wink!

JKS thanks for the PKU/BF info - I had got to the point of thinking we'd cross that bridge if & when we came to it. But given how spacey I am this avo (just had the obligatory afternoon nap!) maybe I better read up now!

That statistic on the 2nd link (only 97 PKU babies born in Norway since 1979 - although the population is/was around 10% that of the UK) reminds me of the remoteness of the likelihood of him having it! We're still only background risk according to the geneticist.

Petalouda · 14/03/2011 19:31

ooh! Very exciting happenings tonight! (not with me!)

Just had a text from my best friend back home, a "good friend" of hers is 4 wks pg and wanted to know if a couple of things were normal. She assures me it's not her, but she won't tell me, so it's deffo someone I know!

And then my mate who popped round this morning has just text me to say she's had a BFP this evening!!! And just after I convinced her to buy a bunch of those cheapo pg tests off amazon (buy 15, you're guaranteed a BFP on the first go - worked for me!).

It's so exciting!! I'm so pleased for them both (even the mystery lady!).

All I've got is a bunch of braxton hicks. And I dare not describe them right now!

Fingers crossed there's something in the air tonight

BeetleBaby · 14/03/2011 19:41

Lis I hope your family members are all ok. I have an aunt who has Alzheimers and broke a hip a couple of weeks ago. I knew there was nothing I could do and family were there to help her and my uncle (who isn't in great health either) but it was still frustrating being 4 hours away.

I keep re-packing my hospital bag (we have 3, one for me, nappy bag for baby and a bag mostly full of snacks for DH). I keep thinking I have too much stuff but actually it's the towels that take up all the room! (This is my theory and I'm sticking to it...)

NotAnother I have the sore on the inside thing too, quite often by my left hip, like the baby likes to lean on the left!

We have a house inspection tomorrow (the joy of rented houses!) so I've spent the day getting very stressed about things not being clean enough! Managed to end up in tears after having an argument with a mop...!

JenAT · 14/03/2011 19:42

cycle and stuffed I am 37 weeks today too!
Had hosp appt today for a growth scan, and all fine, baby is head down. We don't know if having girl or boy and fortunately couldn't tell on the scan so will still have a surprise.

I have had glucose in my urine too and have been told if I get another positive one I need a Gtt, although can't see this happening at 37 weeks~! I have found that if I do the sample before I have eaten then no glucose but if straight after b-fast always glucose present. (I have urine dipsticks at home in my work bag)

Finally got round to starting to pack hospital bag, started bringing back memories of my labour with dd not all pleasant but also happy memories of dressing her in a tiny white babygro and being all lovely and cuddly.

Re books. Just started reading Labyrinth by Kate Mosse, it's ok and certainly v easy to read but nothing special. I'm partial to a bit of crime fiction aka Patricia Cornwell, Lee Childs stuff, not really a chick lit person. I think the last book that really affected me was 'Never Let me Go' by Kasuro Ishigaru (probably spelt his name wrong) I know its now been made into a film. will look through thread to find some of everyone else's recommendations, can feel a trip to the library coming on!

Was watching the news with dd playing in the same room earlier. She is 3, 1/2 and started watching the footage of the tsunami in Japan, she got quite upset at seeing all the houses/cars being swept away and I had to turn it off. I had to reassure her that our house wasn't going to be swept away by a big wave and we were safe. I find it too much for me to comprehend, the awful devastation, all those families losing loved ones. Just going to give dd and extra big kiss and cuddle tonight and be thankful for how lucky we are.

MrsWajs · 14/03/2011 20:00

Thanks guys for your reassurances! Had a little cry to DP when he came home from work, not because I'm overly worried but just because I was kind of disappointed that everything wasn't just normal!

I'm not gonna worry about the glucose thing unless it happens again and will be making a point of NOT eating coco pops for breakfast!! Although I strongly suspect this had nothing to do with it as there was a good few hours between consumption and pee test!

Also my mum assures me I don't need to worry about the off measurements, apparently she never measured any more than 28cm with all 3 of us and nobody was overly concerned about it! Mind you that was a few couple of decades ago!!

NANN I'm all set for OBEM - although probably not the best idea since I'm already a bit fragile today! Also badly needing my roots done but my hairdresser is at Crufts!! Soo inconvenient!

Really need to think about packing hospital bag too, just can't quite get my head around what I'll need for me let alone for baby?! Maybe create a shopping list of things I still need tomorrow and think about going to town to get it all before I feel too massive to do anything! Also have my old room at my parents house still full of crap and that needs to be cleared before baby arrives as my mum and dad want to put the house on the market soon!! Really don't know where I'm going to find the motivation for that when I can't even find any to do a basic clean and tidy in my own house . . . . where is that nesting feeling???

Petalouda · 14/03/2011 20:06

Ooh, MrsW, I've slowly developed a coco pops addiction, so they could indeed be the culprit!

Not giving them up though! Love love them!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/03/2011 20:12

You can tell that people are starting their ML now as there are mucho posts Grin

Good news that your FIL didn't have a heart attack Lis, hope you get time to get things sorted out while you are away.

I've given up watching the news Jen, I'm not in denial, I just find it too upsetting.

I packed my post-natal bag this afternoon while ds was at his Granny's. It was all a bit slap-dash really, but as I WON'T be going to hospital it doesn't matter Grin I suppose washing sheets, airing the car seat and washing the inner lining of the cot for the bed is next on the list

Couldn't agree with you more about people finding breastmilk weird Pet. Why is breastmilk odd, yet we happily glug milk that comes from a cow?

JustKeepSwimming · 14/03/2011 20:14

I'm on a Grape Nuts phase at the mo, and DH is relieved as he's found a close by shop that sells them - we made a special trip to Sainsburys before!

I like crime fiction too, not so much chick lit but MIL brings me some now and then and they are at least an easy read.

Got into pjs when boys were in the bath, watching some Tiny Tearaways, then off to bed early.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/03/2011 20:24

Lis that is good news.

Petal - I find the aversion to breastmilk a bizarre thing too. My theory is that people don't like such an obvious reminder that we are first and foremost animals. Every other basic function (sex, sleeping, eating etc) has been tidied up, there are rules around it and so on. You can't really do that with feeding your baby unless you express every drop and bottle feed it - which is what some people would like us to do I think!

My bags are just about ready, I think. I will need to shove more clothes and pjs in there at the last moment, I'm wearing a lot of what I would like to have with me for slouching around the house atm. It is a good incentive to keep on top of the laundry! :)
I've done it in dribs and drabs though too. Must remember to put some food in for DH. I've been told I won't be able to eat anything even if I am VBACing in case I need a c-section.

Cyclebump · 14/03/2011 20:31

Aaargh, really bad BHs. Eugh. Make me feel way rough.

Icecream seems to be helping though...

Have reorganized my bag for the new birth scenario of going into labour. Mainly just means fewer clothes for me and baby and I'll put all the spare clothes in a bag in the cot for DP to bring in if I need them. Need to buy snacks and cheap towels (ours are all light colours).

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/03/2011 20:42

If you are VBAC'ing Ali, you should eat and drink. Woman eat in labour and then go onto have emerg csections, so the 'just incase' excuse is bullshit imo.

I have never heard of grapenuts, what are they?

I'm just watching a programme based around a Police custody cell, and a prisoner who has got Hep. has done a dirty protest all over the cell. Vile. Grim and vile.

My bump hurts from the inside, almost like I can't possibly stretch anymore - not good when I'm only 33 weeks!

JustKeepSwimming · 14/03/2011 20:45

An old-fashioned cereal that my GPs always had - and back when i was a kid i used to love pouring the cream off the top of the milk to have with them, yum!
Think it's something to do with the need for full-fat milk which i normally can't tolerate when not pg/bf.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/03/2011 20:54

I bloody love full fat milk, that's all we have in our house. You can't beat it ice cold over cereal.

MrsWajs · 14/03/2011 21:14

ILTMI I'd be on here allll day if my laptop worked properly, I have 'i' and 'o' issues at the moment so it makes typing the simplest post a mammoth task! At my mums tonight so taking advantage of hers!

Have seen grapenuts in the supermarket too but didn't really know what they were, maybe they'd be a better alternative to coc pops!!

Had to wean myself off skimmed milk once I found out I was pregnant - got on to it when I was doing weight watchers and now find it really difficult to drink semi skimmed milk and definitely couldn't stomach full fat!

MrsWajs · 14/03/2011 21:15

Oh bloody hell - coco pops not coc pops Blush

NotAnotherNewNappy · 14/03/2011 22:15

Lol at coc pops, it's been ages since I've had any of those Wink

Just finished watching OBEM, I was really looking forward to it as the young mum seemed to have too much fluid but they completely glossed over how that affected the birth.

Liv77 · 14/03/2011 22:19

Yum - full fat milk, i've been finishing off DS bedtime milk as he likes his beaker filled "all the way to the top" but only drinks about a third, it's going to be hard to wean myself out of the habit. Also as I live in Guernsey which is generally known as "the channel island that's not Jersey" and "where the cows come from" we only have our own milk. It's ilegal to sell imported cows milk here. It's lovely and always has big globs of cream in it. It makes a very nice Latte. Smile

Liv77 · 14/03/2011 22:20

And that concludes the post from the Guernsey Milk Marketing Board Grin
