thank you so much for all the reassurance and good wishesSmile

elgoldenflower - thanks, your friend is right, it's wiser to try to accept we have little control over these things. Hope your next appt is better, of course it will be because you'll see the baby!

sunface - I hope it will seem like a lovely shock once the news sinks in, at the moment it just seems unbelievable that I will have TWO new babies to feed, change etc I think Im so shocked because it was never on my radar as a possibility, which of course is silly!
Agbag - I have a friend who had the same experience as you, actually quite a large bleed, and everything was absolutely fine, hope this is reassuring, I know these things make you feel v worried.
fleecy - thanks, that's reassuring to hear what your friend said.
monkeyB - the baby is in nursery now so I'll look into that, thanks for the tip.

And thanks also emmazed, cupoftea, and mumtobe

Molybdenum · 15/03/2011 21:39

arabella!!! Wow! Congratulations. What a shock, but hopefully a lovely one.

Exciting to hear of others' scans and tests - I had a private scan and bloods today for Down's and other chromosomal disorders. We chose to do this as it's not offered on the NHS where we are (unless you are at increased risk). It was a lovely experience; spent ages watching the baby move around, all looks perfectly normal, and the professor of obstetrics who performed the scan old me I have the same risk of Down's as a 15 year old! I am 31 - the average risk for a 31 year old if 1:719. My risk was calculated today at 1:4156. The test is 91% accurate, so we are delighted and relieved.

I hope everyone else enjoys their screenings as much as we did, and has similarly happy outcomes :)

Penelope1980 · 16/03/2011 05:28

arabella I was wondering where you had got to, as the original stater of the thread. And what news! It will be an exciting adventure am sure, and I hope all goes well.

Agbag a friend of mine had bleeding too, and now she has a lovely DD.

Molybdenum your post has made me so excited about my scan next Monday! It also made me glad I decided to get the downs test too.

drivencrazy · 16/03/2011 09:17

arabella what a lovely shock

agbag i had bleeding a week ago and the could find no cause for it either. But baby was fine and had heartbeat etc. They did date me earlier than i thought though but from talking to a friend whos had several dc cos its so early on the ultrasound may date it smaller as its soo far away.

I have my booking appointments on thursday and friday this week

BabyBolat · 16/03/2011 09:19

arabella what exciting news! Advice on prams get a twin buggy and a buggy board for your 19mo. So we have two sets of identical twins now don't we? How exciting

Bluetinkerbell, mine took a week to come through so wouldn't worry.

Agbag how is the discharge now?

I am very grumpy and hormonal this morning and I want to cry! My jeans wouldn't do up this morning so have a hairband holding them together as I haven't got any maternity clothes yet and stay in London during the week Sad Angry

BabyBolat · 16/03/2011 09:20

Sorry BabyBolat is BB2, for some reason my old MN came up!!!

BB2 · 16/03/2011 09:23

there back to my shiny new self!!

Janzen · 16/03/2011 09:47

Agbag I'm with you. On Sunday, when I was 11 weeks and 1 day, I was cleaning under my bed and I got up and felt something and realized I was bleeding. It wasn't a whole lot, but bright red. It lasted an hour or two. Then it turned into light red spotting. I went in for a scan the next morning and everything was okay. I saw a heartbeat and he/she wiggling his/her little arms and legs around. They also dated me two days later so I'm now 11 weeks and 5 days. They couldn't explain what caused the bleeding.

I've had brown spotting for the last two days. This morning it looks very faint. The nurse said to expect brown spotting after a bleed and it can last up to a week. It's so terrifying. The scariest thing is not knowing what caused it. Seeing that everything was okay in the scan calmed me. They gave me a print-out where the hand is in a position where it looks like it's waving. I like to think he/she is telling me relax, everything is fine, just relaxing in here'.

LittlePebble · 16/03/2011 10:24

Morning all,

Arabella that is amazing news - how exciting I'm a little envious I would love twins a friend of mine had identical twin boys as her first and although it was hard work they were adorable.

Sorry in advance for this - having a complete wobble this morning DP and I had a massive row this morning that came out of nowhere and I feel really upset and shaken by it, have to go and give blood later with the midwife and have a heap of stuff to do at work and somehow it is all just far too much and all I feel like doing is being a puddle. Sad

KnitterNotTwitter · 16/03/2011 11:04

arabella congratulations.... a friend of mine had a similar situation has you and she got this buggy Or your could get a phil and ted's and always have one of the twins in a sling... - might be a good way for one of them to get some contact time...

I'm sure it'll all work out fine though - these things always do...

pebble hugs - sorry it's tough at the moment

OP posts:
SazzyM · 16/03/2011 11:32

Hi all - wow loads going on!

pepples I really hope your DP stops being an arse asap and realises that pregnant ladies should absolutely not be rowed with!!

Very exciting twins news!! You might have to paint one of their toe nails to tell them apart! And just think of all the fun they will have when older, pretending to be the other one and getting up to naughty tricks!

I was reading a 'becoming a dad' type book last night that my mum bought for DP. He was waffling on about buying all this baby stuff when his wife was about 8wks...surely a smidge too soon?! I haven't allowed myself to even glance in the direction of baby clothes...has anyone else?

Also really feeling for people having bleeds - It sounds so scary. It also sounds like it's pretty common and on the whole tends to be ok in the end - which is really reassuring...but my heart goes out for those going through it.

BabCNesbitt · 16/03/2011 11:35

arabella congratulations! Hope it's starting to sink in a little bit now!

elgoldenflower glad that you're feeling better :)

pebble sorry you're having a crappy day - can you sneak off to the toilet for a few minutes to get a bit of breathing space? (Though the toilet probably isn't the best place to be breathing deeply.)

BuffyFairy · 16/03/2011 12:33

Hello ladies! Sorry it's been a few weeks since I've been on here, there's so much to catch up on! Hello to the newbies.

I had an exam a couple of weeks ago so got my head down for some frantic cramming. Then my Grandad went downhill rapidly. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a couple of months ago and passed away last night. Feeling very sad now. He was already in a coma when I went to say goodbye. The dr said they had to assume he could hear so I told him about the baby but I have no idea if he heard or not. I hope he knows somehow.

11 + 2 today. Got my scan on Fri, can't wait! Been a bit worried as I've had little in the way of symptoms. Got a bit of nausea from week 7 but that only lasted 2 weeks. Went right off veg at the time which as weird and made me feel guilty. Craved fruit though. DP swears my boobs are bigger now, they've been a bit tender but not much. I'm going to make the most of having big boobs Wink No weight gain at all, a bit bloated in the evenings but no bump showing. Mentioned my concerns to the midwife on Sun and she said it was normal to feel fine and that women often worry about it especially if they've had some symptoms that then go. Hope she's right, I'll feel so much better when I can see the baby, roll on Fri!

Sorry for those of you who are feeling rubbish, hope it passes soon. xx

mpops · 16/03/2011 12:40

Sorry to hear about your grandad, Buffy. It's lovely you got to tell him and I'm sure he knew.

pebble, sorry you're having a wobbly day. Hope it gets better quickly. It's tough isn't it, with so many things going on in your head during this time.

I really really want to feel super excited and happy about being pregnant because, well, I am! But my worries about it are so huge that I don't let myself get too carried away. I smile to myself sometimes but when I talk to other people, I get all "we'll see how it goes, fingers crossed!" and so on. It's so frustrating. Does it ever get easier and more relaxed? I want to be relaxed and enjoy it. Hopefully the scan next week will help.

Congratulations on the twin news as well. How lovely!

AgBag · 16/03/2011 13:13

Thank you all for your reassuring comments. I've still got a brown discharge - it will be a week tomorrow since the red blood. Its good to hear that bleeding in pregnancy is not that uncommon. I'm going to go back to the Dr if its not stopped after a week, but I expect they wont be able to tell me anything more.

Also lovely to hear people's scan experiences. I can't wait until my 12 week scan now.

I'm feeling in better spirits today as I didn't vomit this morning! - the first morning of not throwing up for 3.5 weeks! I felt sick, but managed to eat breakfast which seemed to settle my stomach. In a way I'm pleased to be getting the symptoms as I hope it means everything is ticking along normally.

I hope everyone else is feeling ok today too!

BB2 · 16/03/2011 15:10

Buffy sorry about your grandad, I am sure he knows.

Agbag Envy for the no sickness this morning Grin

vhappymumma2b · 16/03/2011 18:54

Hi everyone, hope that you're all doing well girls.

Buffy, I'm sure that your Grandad heard what you said, I'm so sorry to hear of what you've been through this week. Wishing you well.

I'm 11 weeks today, I've got my booking appointment on Friday and I'm absolutely dreading all of my blood tests. What have everyone's experience been of them so far? I'm the worst needle phobic in the world and just feel so awful about it, totally sick at the thought. It's making me sad to think that I am worrying so much that everything will be ok that it is stopping me feel the happiness of looking forward to our first midwife appointment :( just wish that I could fast forward to Saturday morning so that it is all over.

Liabella · 16/03/2011 20:46

arabella Oh wow - twins will be so exciting. Congratulations Smile I teach several sets of twins and the one piece of very early advice I'd offer is: let them have different hair cuts - it lets them be individuals and stops people constantly getting their names wrong!

Buffy I'm so sorry about your grandad. It's good that you have the baby to help you think about the future and as others have said, I'm sure he heard you.

daimbardiva · 16/03/2011 21:00

Hello all, congrats on the twins Arabella - what an exciting surprise!!

I have my 12 week scan tomorrow. So excited, but v anxious too!!

bilblio · 16/03/2011 21:05

Hi all, a few days away and so much to catch up on, so apologies if I miss anyone.

Buffy So sorry to hear about your Grandad. My Dad spent 11 days in a coma after a heart op 3 years ago. (DD was 3 months old and I was so glad I was on maternity leave) Anyway, he recovered and when he woke he was able to tell us some things that had happened, conversations he'd heard, but also some things that he shouldn't have known. He'd had some very wierd vivid dreams, but he also knew there were lots of people praying for him. We aren't religious but we have a very religious friend who went on the local Sunday radio show asking for people to pray for him. So I'm sure he'll have heard something as important as your news.

Agbag I had a heavy bleed at 11 weeks last time, probably due to over doing it and a low lying placenta. This time I've had a lot of spotting for about a week at 6 weeks but it's stopped now.

I had my booking in appointment yesterday, with the midwife I saw all the way through last pregnancy... even though she wasn't my named midwife then either. I've requested Midwifery led care which I'm so pleased I can have. I wasn't allowed it last time due it being new, 1st pregnancy and low lying placenta, but hopefully it'll all work out this time. I've been assured that this way means I'll be encouraged to walk, be active and they'll be minimal machines. Last time I was hooked up to foetal monitors for the whole 6 hours and not allowed off the bed. With good reason, but it was still flipping annoying. I also get first dibs on the pool! Yay. My friend has just had a water birth and I'm seriously considering it now.
Our Midwives book the scan online at the booking in appointment so I'm due to have that on 8th April.
Mumma2b my blood tests consisted of one needle with 2 vials of blood. All over in seconds. I have to look away when it's being done to me even though I'm fine seeing/helping other people have them with work.

I've had horrendous indigestion every night now since Friday. Last night was the first night since then that I didn't spent any time on the settee. Oh how I miss my Lanzoprazole! Copious amounts of peppermint tea appear to have helped, and my MS has eased today too, barely felt queasy.

vhappymumma2b · 16/03/2011 21:18

Hi

Bilblio thanks so much for letting me know what happened with your blood tests, knowing that it is a couple of vials brings a little less anxiety... I think that it is fear of the unknown with things.

I hope that your indigestion gets a lot better very soon - and great news that your MS is feeling a lot better... I tend to get mine in the evenings before dinner where I feel mega queasy, I'd hoped that mine has eased a little over the past few days but tonight I felt really rough again - I think that worrying about the needles on Friday is adding to the sicky feeling though to be honest.

Is anyone else feeling yet that their energy levels are improving? I feel far more full of beans than over the past few weeks which feels great.

monkeybubbles · 17/03/2011 08:58

more bleeding...

10 weeks today, had a bit of bleeding last night and a bit this morning. freaking out now. it was one thing to have at 6 weeks, but now to have it again is worrying.

i mostly just want to bury my head in the sand and pretend it's not happening, but i know that's not advisable.

i did have quite a hectic day yesterday and i'm on antibiotics for a throat infection (so wondering if i might have thrush as a result of that) or if coughing too much or having a couple of asthma attacks could have caused it.

i'm just so worried. i have an appointment with a GP at 10am and am going to try to ring the midwife now.

please think good thoughts for me.

BB2 · 17/03/2011 09:20

monkeybubbles thinking good thoughts, let us know what the dr says x

apples82 · 17/03/2011 09:32

Very good thoughts floating your way monkeybubbles, let us know what the GP/MW say Smile

silverangel · 17/03/2011 09:36

Hi all, I havent posted for a while as have been sooooooo tired that not interested in looking at a computer when I get in from work!

Monkeybubbles - hope everything is ok.

Arabella - you are at pretty much the same stage as me, I'm 11+5 with monochrionic dimaniotic (I'm really not sure that's spelt right!) twins, found out a few weeks ago so it is starting to sink in now. Have nuchal scan next week, havent let myself get too excited yet because of previous mc, but feeling positive and very sick and very tired which I'm looking at as a good thing!

Also have an appointment with the twin consultant the following week as will be under her care instead of midwife led care so thinking of a whole raft of questions to ask her. Have also already been told that scans will be every two weeks from 16 weeks to check for TTTS and IUGR.

Hope everyone has a good day! Smile
