Am I the first? I can't see another November thread.

Ok, my stats, I am 32, have 1 dd (2.1) and edd is 03/11/2011.

I had a mc at Christmas but feel ok about this pregnancy, though I only found out 3 days ago so I may get a bit more panicked as time passes.

Anyone else want to join me in a November baby thread?

Envy at anyone who has tandem fed by the way. I could never actually get pg while bfing so always had to wean.Sad Totally went against my instincts but was trying to get pg for a year while bfing ds3, stopped and got pg within two months.

3rdTimeLucky2000 · 11/03/2011 18:11

being a bit clueless, can i ask what tandem feeding is please? xx Confused

3rdTimeLucky2000 · 11/03/2011 18:13

thinking, im going to need to go out and buy lots of pregnancy books when/if we get to 12 weeks! im looking back at all your posts and im pretty clueless about most of it! xx Hmm

ochaye · 11/03/2011 18:19

Love the pic of your bean Terrys. My DH has an app on his phone that has something similar. He was telling me last night I have a newt in my tummy!

I have crazy dreams when I?m pregnant too ... and insomnia. Neither have started yet thankfully. I?ll be recording lots of rubbish TV for those late night sessions! A friend of mine had similar dreams to you when she was pregnant 3rd. She dreamt she?d lost her tiny, tiny baby in as smoked salmon sandwich and couldn?t find it not matter how much she searched. Is it wrong to find these dream stories mildly amusing? I think it?s because they?re just sooooooo strange. Your bookcase one is a great example Terrys.

Your GF experience sounds similar to mine Dirge. Don?t get me wrong, I?m not a GF hater and I can see how it can work for some (DD2 was such a breeze in comparison to DD1) but I think it should come with a health warning. It would also help if she recognised that it just doesn?t work for everyone and that it?s not your fault. We developed patterns rather than routine. We did the same things in the same order, but at varying times of the day and varying intervals. It worked for us and DD1 slept through the night from 6 weeks. DD2 was a much easier baby but didn?t sleep through till she was 9 months. They?re all so different!

Don?t be shy MrsArch ... how absolutely blooming lovely to see you here! I?m DELIGHTED for you!!! And spodel ... you?re not a fraud at all ... you?re perfectly entitled to be here Grin. Welcome.

We had a Phil & Teds double when DD2 was born MrsArch and I absolutely loved it. DD1 was only 22 months though. I used it to death and am not sure it?ll make it to this next baby. Anyway, what I was going to say is that we didn?t buy it until after DD2 was a few weeks old. We decided to see if we could do without it first. As you have the iCandy it wouldn?t take much to upgrade so maybe it?s worth waiting to see? We don?t use at buggy at all now and DD2 isn?t 3 yet. She?s quite obedient though so I can see why you find your handy. You could also try a buggy board maybe?

Dirge - do you have a sling in mind? I?ll be digging out my Close Baby Carrier again. I loved it with DD2.

Hi there Nicknack and welcome to the thread. We?re here for you to rant at so feel free! Unfortunately I?ve found the emotions just keep going even long after baby is born. I think you just need to look after yourself and not worry about what your boss or work are saying. They have no idea.

I hope your results are back excited and are all positive.

ochaye · 11/03/2011 18:19

OMG - I'm really sorry about the long posts! I just dont' get the chance to post often enough!!!

freeangel · 11/03/2011 18:21

Welcome nicknack Sorry to hear your having a rubbish time.
I use a phil and teds for work, when two of the children went in the buggy! This was great, easy to push, easy to put up and down, and same length as a big single buggy!

deemented · 11/03/2011 18:26

Tandem feeding is feeding two or more babies at the same time Smile Something that i'm hoping to do, and that will outrage manshapes ma even more than she already will be!!

I sold my double just before Christmas Sad It was a First Wheels City Twin and i loved it. Would have kept it, but DD was getting too big for it (she's three in may and is 107cm tall and built like a brick out house) so i sold it and got a Maclaren buggy for DS3. I will get another double though. I have my eye on an ABC/Obaby Zoom. Pricey though. I'm tempted just to stick with the Mac and a sling for baby. Shall see how my back is.

stripeymummy · 11/03/2011 20:07

Welcome mrsarch, spoden and nicknack, and congratulations!

Was feeling pretty good for most of the day, but a bit crampy and knackered now. Has anyone else got really achy legs, ESP at the top?

That's really awful about your work nicknack, I'm sure that it's against the law in some fashion, just keep fighting your corner. I'm dreading telling my work as I do quite a physical job, so that's gonna go down like a lead balloon Hmm

And now I'm terrified of prams! What would people recommend, ESP for someone who does quite alot of walking?

chipmonkey · 11/03/2011 20:16

Lord, ochaye, you don't half go on!Wink

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 11/03/2011 20:51

I remember when I was pg with DD and on the ante natal thread here and lots of people were going on ab out stuff I had no clue about!

First timers - listen, ask qns but just remember - until your baby is here you cannot truly understand and nor should you. That isn't meant to be patronising Blush, it's simply that you won't really be able to appreciate what it's like till you have a baby. Just enjoy your pg and whilst it is hard work, it's feckin amazing and the best thing I ever did!

Sorry - lecture over Blush I go on a bit too.....

I remember drinking Gaviscon by the bottleful last time. It's safe to take and really works, far better than tums/rennie etc.

I think i will stick with my iCandy (just adore these prams - cheaper than a bugaboo but just as well made imo, and you don't see many of them around so they are quite exclusive) and get a buggy board and see what happens. Maybe a cheap double if essential.

The one thing I do need advice on is slings - never went there with DD but keen to try this time.

chipmonkey · 11/03/2011 21:13

You know, I wanted to try slings with ds3 and ds4 but never got the hang of them.Blush I got a Sling-easy one for ds3 and he actually nearly fell out of the bottom of it one day!

Tried a hug-a-bub on ds4 but never got the hang of wrapping it. I felt that I had just bought a bloody scarf to wrap around myself and couldn't manage bfing in it easily.

Like the look of the Close Baby one and the Tots Bots Papoozle but don't want to fork out for another sling that never gets used.

3rdTimeLucky2000 · 11/03/2011 21:34

stripey i get that pain on the top frot of my legs too, usually just for a few minutes atime, usually at the same time as dull pain in my back and stomach, but have been told its nowt to worry about! :)

MrsArch i know what you mean, as much im trying to prepare myself for this new life, i know its gunns hit me like a ton of bricks when the time comes... but i still cannot wait! :o

oh, sorry forgot to thank deemented for the translation/explanation xx

busyboysmum · 11/03/2011 21:38

I breastfed my first until I was 3 months pregnant with my second - he was 2.5 by then so I thought it was time to wean him so I didn't tandem feed. My cousin has 7 kids - she has tandem fed them all including a toddler and twins at one exhausting time!

Ladies who are on their subsequent kids and hard up as we are - have you got a local freecycle? I just popped a wanted ad on ours last night for maternity clothes and baby stuff as we have given all ours away. This evening I went to this lovely girls' house and collected a Mamas and Papas travel system like new - a baby sling, a baby playmat, a moses basket and stand which is full of baby clothes, two other car seats, one for tiny babies (a maxi cosy?) which comes with some wheels and a stage 2 seat - all like new.

I am so chuffed - I said to her you've totally sorted us out, she was delighted to clear the space as they were in a small flat. I can't wait to use them now!

My legs have also been achy at the tops and my stomach a bit achy too - it's nice to come on here and see that everyone is similar.

Smile

Wow I am going to struggle to keep up on this thread. Been really busy at work tonight and have two 19 hour days coming up so wont be on much over the weekend.

I have started to feel a little sick so at least I have some signs. I am also craving everything salty..

I have a phil and teds but there was less than two years between my two so really needed a double and couldn't get a side by side in the house. I love it and the kids love it. DD doesn't really need a buggy now so will be sticking with this.

Welcome to all the new ladies and congratulations. I seem to have dropped of the list on this thread but am still on the other list on other thread is that ok?

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. I cant wait for it too end to be honest as I am so tired and dont want to work this weekend boo hoo Grin

bumpsnowjustplump · 11/03/2011 22:00

I used a babasling for ds and he was never out of it. He had reflux and constantly wanted holding so it was a godsend.. I have lent it out but must get it back as I love it..

chipmonkey · 11/03/2011 22:41

Is it an idiotproof easy one to use, bumps?

Just gave myself a fright as I did another CBD which said 3+ weeks. Thought it should say 4+ , I didn't realise 3+ was as high as they went!

laabama · 11/03/2011 23:43

Hello Girls!
Vital stats: 33 yrs old, 1st baby, EDD is 4th November. Excited and scared in equal measures! :)
Think I'm 6 weeks today.

Piplysmelie · 12/03/2011 00:10

Feeling a bit nervous tonight as I am having my scan tomorrow morning. FX all is well Smile

I also had a Phil and Ted's last time and could not have done without it. DD1 was 2 and 3/4 yrs when DD2 was born. I can throughly recommend slings, really got into them with DD2.

chipmonkey · 12/03/2011 00:23

Welcome laabama! Grin That would be right as I'm was 6 weeks yesterday and my EDD is 3/11/11

I have added you to the stats thread here

chipmonkey · 12/03/2011 00:23

Piply FX for you for tomorrow. Hope it all goes well!

DirgeInVegas · 12/03/2011 08:09

Morning everyone, only a quick post from me to calm all you sling phobics!

Welcome new people! Congratulations on your bfps!

I started out with a closebaby ochaye - what did you think of it? I couldn't seem to get it right and the rings made me nervous for DDs toes and fingers.

I also had a Baby Bjorn. I have to say it was the most appalling sling/carrier. Murdered my back and not good for baby's crotch/hips apparently. They just kind of hang.

I bought a Beco Butterfly II which was fabulous. It comes with a newborn insert but I think DD was 3 months before I used it. We used it everyday until she was about 18 months.

From 18 months she wanted to walk mostly so I got a Slingling Pouch which was wonderful, I still keep it in my bag now in case DD gets tired or is in a running away mood!

So for this baby I think I might just stick with those two although I'm considering Moby Wrap for the early months. DD never went in a pram. Well, perhaps a handful of times (we did try - we own three, lovely, perfect conditon, virtually unused prams!).

Feel so ill this morning. Ive just had a milkshake which I thought was going to be a great move but it really, really wasn't. DH is now making sausage sandwiches which will either kill or cure...

cep · 12/03/2011 08:56

morning all hope everyone is ok. still feeling sick here, would like to try one of the slings but wouldn't know where to even start, we had a carrier thing but as i'm a large lady wasn't comfy at all.

pip good luck for the scan, as that post was so early is it sat tomorrow scan or sun tomorrow scan?? fx for you

deemented · 12/03/2011 08:57

Oh Dirge - you're brave - i've learnt the hard way to stay away fom anything too milky in the morning... nice going down... but not so good on the way up Grin

Re slings - i had a babasling which i used with DD - it was fabulous. I ordered direct from them as i'm a heifer and they made it to measure. Customer service was excellent. Unfortunately i sold it then found out i was expecting DS3 (Seeing a theme here?)

When DS3 was born my best friend bought me a peanutshell wrap sling, and it is by far the best sling ever. Loooking at is was a bit daunting at first - i's basicly a mahooooosieve piece of material that you have to learn to wrap around you but the instructions are very easy and with practice i found it quicker putting DS3 in there rather than the pram at first. I'm so glad i kep it now, and can't wait to use it for this little 'un.

For those of you interested in using a sling, looksee here - you can actually meet up with other sling wearers and try all different ones, until you find something you like.

ochaye · 12/03/2011 09:26

It's worth finding out what's near you in relation to slings. We have a woman near us who has a whole range of slings that she can give you to try and she even rents them out. I can't remember what she's called, but I'm sure there must be lots of other people who are keen to help with the sling challenge.

Your local NCT would probably be able to point you to someone who can help?

I loved the close Dirge and used it loads. I didn't use a sling at all with DD1 but wish I had!

Piplysmelie · 12/03/2011 11:19

Hi all

I had my scan this morning and the baby is showing as 5+3 when I thought I was 6 +3. He did say it depends on ovulation and then I remember that I did ovulate very late on my last cycle (Sorry you probably don't need all of this info!)

So we agreed it was probably at the right stage for dates. He did say I could come back in a couple of weeks to check for a heart beat. To be honest I was chufffed he could see anything at 5 weeks!
