Hi everyone!

Congratulations Cookingfat! Glad you had a good birth experience Smile that's lovely! Shame about the aftercare though but it sounds like you and your DD are doing great.

Needto sorry that you've been feeling down. It's to be totally expected with all the hormones etc that are madly buzzing around but a good idea to write everything down and tell the MW. Good luck with MW Smile.

Angels don't worry, it will be your turn soon! Smile

SBF sorry that the pain stopped. That sounds weird doesn't it? Hmm Grin I hope things get started again soon.

Well, update from me... Still having contractions but they feel pretty much the same. Not regular and don't really seem to be getting stronger. As of last night I had a constant pain in my tummy and the baby wasn't moving (my stomach was constantly hard so was struggling to feel) so I went to hospital this morning to be monitored. Everything is fine, baby started wriggling as soon as I got there (it's as if they do it on purpose to make you feel daft Grin ) MW examined me and said I'm not in labour yet (about 2 cms dilated) but cervix is effacing. Because of this she gave me a sweep Shock ouch and said that things may kick off in the next couple of days! Fingers crossed!

congratulations cooking fat look forward to hearing more about the birth Smile

thank you everyone for being so lovely, OH has taken Ben to his parents this morning to give me a rest but I just can't sleep. He gave Ben a bottle last night as I couldn't get it together and had a panic attack, now my boobs are so full and I need to feed him and he's not here. Feel such a mess, sorry to be so down.

Report
wigglesrock · 13/02/2011 11:37

needtosleep its ok, you're not a mess and even if you're a little bit of one, that's ok too. I can't be much help re the boobs, but would would expressing help you relieve the discomfort. I remember the first time Mr Wiggles took dd1 for a while to give me a rest I wandered around the house looking desolate and wondering if I was ever going to see her again!!! He was 20 mins away in his Mums Grin

All that you feel now is normal, not a mess, childbirth although fantastic and obviously the end result is beyond words but it is really traumatic both mentally and physically. Sometimes I think as mums we forget that and try and "get back to normal" far too soon. I was in a bad car accident about 2.5 years ago and I remember the Doctor and physio both telling me that childbirth was more traumatic to a womens body and I was hit by a feckin' truck!!! xx

Congrats, cookingfat! Feeling a bit Envy as I think we had the same due date.

I thought things would kick off this weekend but aside from a few contractions, nothing at all is happening. I had a bit of show Friday after a sweep on Thursday and another sweep scheduled for tomorrow.

Could someone who's been induced walk me through the process? Since the MW brought it up, it's making me very anxious which isn't helping me go into labour on my own. I'm tentatively booked in to have the pessaries started on Thursday (at 40+13) but the MW said I don't have to keep the appointment if I don't want to. I'm trying to get my head around it before I see her again tomorrow so I can ask questions.

needto, it's not you, it's your hormones! Hopefully things will settle down in a couple of days. In the meantime just try and rest as much as you can, get DH to run around after you and do all the nappy changes Grin

Needto I just wanted to second what Wiggles said. Childbirth takes a huge toll on your body! You spend 9 months feeling sick and exhausted and uncomfortable etc etc, then giving birth is painful, tiring and there's such a mixture of emotions that come with it. You feel elated with your baby but then there's the worry of "are they feeding enough/am I making up the bottles properly" not to mention the lack of sleep plus feeling like you've done ten rounds with Mike Tyson!
You're not bringing anybody down!

americanexpat I was brought into hospital with dd2 in the evening. Started off on a pessary gel at 6am, I was fully mobile, walking about but still in the hospital. I wasn't monitored at this point. Midwife took a look at 11am ish, gave me another gel. Again I kept active, lots of walking around, listening to music, bouncing on ball.

Had lots of baths!! I wasn't in any pain at all, mild contractions at about 2pm, monitored for about 20 mins, had yet another bath at 3.30pm, went into labour properly at 4pm, 7cms dilated, went into delivery suite, had dd2 at 6.45pm, no interventions, had g&a and some pethedine, but she arrived about 3 mins after pethedine although the pain relief really helped for the "tidying up" afterwards Grin.

That's really interesting wiggles (about the trauma of car accidents/childbirth). needto can you express? don't know if you have a pump but you can do it by hand, I saw it in the video about breastfeeding, have you got it?

wiggles induction sounds ideal, good luck amer, I hope the sweep tomorrow works.

Today I skyped with my mum and she very seriously said that if I was to have a straight forward and natural birth he should be engaged by now... Angry she's obviously an expert, having never actually gone into labour! I ignored the comment and think he will engage, yesterday I was sitting in bed reading and the pain in my cervix was quite something, and have been having more and more cramps and tightenings, but... when should he engage? (he's my first and am 38+3)

Report
Grannyapple · 13/02/2011 13:45

Hi knittakid I only found out I was engaged at my last appt when I was 38 + 3. Like you this is almost my first & I kept thinking when is it gonna happen! I have sInce found out that one of my cousins who had 3 boys, didn't engage at all until labour!

Thanks for reassurance, I just need to be able to really shut out those comments!

Some babies don't engage until labour. It sounds as if he might be getting that way though, if you're feeling tightenings and pains in cervix!

My baby wasn't engaged at my last appt but on Thursday I kept feeling like she was burrowing down. It felt like she was going to slip out while I was walking! This morning the MW said that her head is very low down now!

wiggles - thanks for your story. Did you have a Bishop score just prior to the gel? Mine was 4 on Thursday so my mind is going crazy with ideas of increasing intervention and eventually a section (which I really don't want and the thought terrifies me).

Needto - no advice but an un-MN-like hug.

sbf hope DH is feeling ok after kidney blasting! anything happening post-sweep?

knitta what a bummer re MA :( seems so unfair!

wiggles good luck for your sweep tomorrow! I have MW too but only 39+3 so doubt a sweep will be on the menu Grin but I think I will try when offered....

I have been having on/off BH of varying strenghts and a lot of pains in my cervix. This could be the baby's head though as mostly coincides with his movements. He is moving less than before (though still 10+) so I am assuming he is running out of room.

Went swimming this morning in my way too small swimming costume but I can see over my bump so don't care now! I did a few lengths while DH entertained DS so you never know it might help. Came home, had lunch and fell asleep and only just woke up Shock!!!

Have had a mixture of blood/mucus discharge since I had my show on Monday so must be coming away bit by bit. Have also become an obsessive knicker checker Blush and go to the loo every 10 mins or so!

Looking forward to going out for V Day dinner tomo night - have been looking at the menu online and planning what I might have Grin!

Congratulations to all new mummy's!

Those of you still waiting, I hope it will be soon!

Our baby boy was born on Thursday evening at 7.26pm after a slow but very steady first stage (2am - 5pm, then it stepped up) second stage was very fast and he appeared in 8 minutes of pushing! Oh and this was at home on my bed!! (pre prepped with plastic & old sheets!) Two amazing and very funny midwives, my Doula and friend and DP. Music, aromatherapy and gas and air! Slightly traumatised by the speed of the delivery as didn't feel mentally ready for it and the head was difficult as he came out with his hand to his face! It really was an amazing experience though still processing! Anyway, he weighed 8lb3oz and measured 53cm & came out screaming! No name as yet though looking likely to be Harris (known as Harry) still to decide on mn. He's adorable and I'm loving every second and DD is smitten! Milk in today so he's been permanently attached!

To those of you still waiting try Ina May's suggestion of nipple stimulation! I tried it for first time for a matter of seconds (v half hearted) and 3 hours later contractions had begun! Could be something in it!

Good luck everyone, sorry for v long me post!
