jane you and your family are in our thoughts and we too shall be wearing pink on friday. Your strength and courage is amazing.

ledkr hope Ds appt goes ok.

Freya is now over her birth weight. She weighs 8lb 2oz so we have been discharged from midwife care and we no longer need to force feed her but seeing as she's drinking between 3 and 4oz per feed i don't think it will be an issue.

40 please get the help if you feel you need it. There are definatly some happy pills you can take while bf as my best friend had them after the birth of her son. Do not allow anyone to make you feel bad or that it's wrong to ask for help. When ds was newborn i refused to acknowledge i was ill and i missed so much of his first 6months as i was so worried and stressed out. I didn't get the help as i was worried about peoples perceptions (sp?) of me. Good luck and happy thoughts

Grin Grin at wiggles and debka DC sleeping in big beds and super big Shock Grin Wink Envy at debkas DH cleaning the oven.

Second 40s ebay sling thing - I got a wilkinet (sth like that) on ebay for about £10 and is it fab condition. It looks bit like a traidional carrier but it's a sling but I don't think you can bf with it, but it works for our current purposes and there's no way my bfing technique is up to feeding whilst moving yet in any case

:) at ledkr being well 'ard Wink . Hope the apt today goes well (I keep wanting to write paedo apt but know that sounds completely wrong!).

Mum coming over to 'help' me this morning has not gone to plan - she's somehow melted my microwave steriliser and everything inside it so has been sent out to buy a new one. Before she arrived I changed the bed sheets and did 2 loads of washing before 8am....since then I've achieved nothing Hmm

slowangels1 · 09/03/2011 11:55

oh, and I'm taking bets that we'll get good news from knitta any time soon now...

ledkr · 09/03/2011 13:43

deb he didnt tell you that i paid him a visit in my dms and knuckle duster did he? I think you will find he takes re newed interest in the house work
hehehe
Dh dropped one of D's bottles last night and then kicked it in temper Shock I had a right go at him,it was largely cos arsenal lost.Am i married to a child??
[GRIN] at angels mum melting the steriliser, wtf? How long did she put it on for? Hilarious

Bensmum76 · 09/03/2011 13:53

Hi all
40 week, it's good that you already recognise that your not feeling right and as the others have said I think your really strong for admitting your feelings. I think I may have had a bit of PND with Ben but denied it and basically found the first 18 months of his life really hard.
I feel much more relaxed with Noah, even though he has been sick twice this morning, meaning one change of outfit for me and two for him, and I'd done so well getting loads of washing done today!
Does anyone elses little one not seem to sleep much in day? I know you've said D doesn't sleep much in the day Ledkr. Noah been awake since 7am, and has only slept during feeds ( you know that drunken sleep they go into) and had about half hour in his Moses basket. He seems quite happy and did sleep well last night. Dh had to wake him for a feed at midnight. We've been trying todo a dream feed each night at 11.30ish to encourage him to go longer in the night.
Oops midwife here gotta go

40Weeks · 09/03/2011 13:55

Hello

Thanks again for lovely messages, you have all cheered me up immensely.

Sling arrived today! Love it as v.pretty but yet to try it out - will keep you posted.

Have two of the 3 boys asleep at the mo, and eldest playing in the garden with dh. Tomorrow is my first day flying solo, gulp.

Wonder what's occurring with knitta....

Oh angels I know i shouldnt but laughing about mum - mine is the same, she means well but I can't help but cringe as she scrapes the Teflon off my non stick pots and pans, with wire wool Grin

Yay debka to dh cleaning oven, long may it last! And the big girl bed, how old is she? I am tempted to change ds2 from a cot into the bed setting - he is 2.5...does she still have a daytime nap? I am not sure he will stay in the bed and am not sure I am ready for him to stop his nap!

40Weeks · 09/03/2011 13:57

And wiggles too for dd2! What a good girl

slowangels1 · 09/03/2011 14:09

yes glad my mums attempts to help amuse you things keep going wrong - she tried to sterilise the only saved not ruined in steriliser dummy in milton and water got inside the dummy so was rendered useless and then she came back from mothercare with both the wrong sized bottles (too big for newborn teats) AND a steriliser that is too big and doesn't fit in our mini microwave. The place looks like a bomb has hit it as she's been faffing about all morning and mw imposed feeding schedule is completely ruined. I honestly think I could have done better myself today. It's not that I'm not very grateful to her attempts, just getting quite frustrated now...and now turtle has colic and keeps screaming her head off. Pass the Wine please Wink

Bensmum76 · 09/03/2011 14:28

Me again. Where was I? Oh yes, dream feeds. Last night he woke at 3 ish then went until 7 so am thinking it's working.
Are any of you doing dream feeds etc?
Well done to Debka for dh cleaning the oven! Did he need much convincing??!
Hoping Knittas absence means she's having/ had her baby!

40Weeks · 09/03/2011 15:36

Sorry angels, was only laughing in comrarderie type way as I know what it's like, not in a mean way!

Yes bensmum I tend to feed M before I go to bed myself to keep him going. SoI guess that's a dream feed. Have always done them with the other two, til their weaned.

40Weeks · 09/03/2011 15:37

Here angels Wine have this

ILovePonyo · 09/03/2011 15:59

Hi all, well I ventured out today to get dd weighed on my own for the first time - am feeling very proud so sitting here having a Brew and an easter egg I treated myself to on the way home! Felt a bit self conscious pushing pram and trying to manouvre it but all went well, and dd weighs just over 7lbs now :)

angels sorry to hear about the colic, its horrible when they just cry and cry isn't it. Are you going to try colief or anything? Oh and a Wine for you Wink

40weeks good luck for tomorrow - I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't know how you mums with other children as well as newborns are doing it! I mean, I know loads of mums do it every day but still... lots of respect to you!

deb maybe your dh has been reading up on mn and seen how angry we all were on your behalf hence the oven clean Grin

How is everyone getting on with their slings? I ordered mine last night so really hoping it arrives tomorrow.

MizK · 09/03/2011 17:21

bensmum I'm not entirely sure what a dream feed is, but I did start to wake cassia at midnight for a last feed which sees her through til 4am, then she feeds at 7am and I reluctantly get her up and dressed. She seems to have settled into this routine pretty firmly now and I can cope with one middle of the night feed I think.
Question for ff mummies - have any of you tried the hungry baby formula? I am a bit concerned that Cassia is feeding too much. She has 8 feeds a day and drinks between 3 and 4 oz a time, the box says that she should take 20oz a day. She is really packing weight on too, over a pound in 3 weeks. So wondering if moving her on to the hungry milk could help? Any advice welcome!

wigglesrock · 09/03/2011 18:14

Mizk I'm not a huge fan of hungry baby milk, I tried it in deperation with dd2, both to try and quench her constant feeding and to see if it made a difference to her lack of sleep, it didn't help with either Grin. Cassia sounds really settled and you're doing really well, with her staying down from midnight to 4am, especially if she goes back down until 7am. Anna is 3 weeks and she has almost 4oz about 7 times a day.

40 weeks good luck for tomorrow, I actually have Mr Wiggles back for 2 days from tomorrow after his run of shitty shifts from 2pm-midnight. Dd1 hasn't seen him in 3 days as I bring her to school while he's asleep and he goes to work before she's back Sad

IlovePonyo I ate an Easter egg last night, it was yummy, the other one is winking at me, tempting me to finish it off too.

Grannyapple · 09/03/2011 19:58

Hi mizk I asked hv about that hubgryer baby milk & she said they don't recommend for babies under 4-5 months. Says the aim of ur us to jeep babies fuller for linger so they only recommend it if almost ready to wean but not quite....kind if using ur as a stil gap.

Nate is 2 wks tomorrow & is on about 3-4oz day too...at day 10 he had put on 12oz since birth! But mw said as long as bang demanded it & wasn't bringing it all back up then fine!

Nate had his Tongue tie snipped today...was horrible seeing the wee mite in pain but he did latch on straight away. should hopefully mean less bottles to go through now (one for expressed milk & one for formula top up)....now I just need to get my supply up so any advice is much appreciated!

Grannyapple · 09/03/2011 20:08

Right ... I am shattered today! That last post was supposed to say'aim of hungrier baby milk is to keep baby fuller for longer'!

40Weeks · 09/03/2011 20:11

Ooh grannyapple good news about latching on! Drink loads of water, keep putting him to the boob and fennel tea is supposed to be good to help milk production. That's all I got! Good luck

takingforeverkid · 09/03/2011 20:32

So sorry to disappoint, seems I have done nothing but just that today, after each phone call could do nothing but cry. Will probably have induction on Friday, unless something goes wrong tomorrow at monitoring. So this is it, goodbye to my homebirth!

Sorry haven't read all the posts, am such an emotional mess and can't stand sitting in front of the computer. Lots of love to you all!

debka · 09/03/2011 20:33

He cleaned it because I never do and I have filled the entire house with smoke twice in the last 2 days! Made a fish pie yesterday in a dish which was too small, which then overflowed and burnt on the bottom of the oven then smoked us out. Thanks for the threats, ledkr!!!

DD1 will be 2 this month, 40weeks, but we'll need her cot before too long for S. She has slept through the night without waking since she was about 7 months, so I was fairly confident she'd be ok. She still has a nap every day, about 1- 1.5 hrs. She's really needed it since S arrived, I think although she adores her sister she finds it very draining. She was extremely excited to have her nap today in her New Bed so no problems there.

Good to here Nate is latching on well now, grannyapple, hopefully you'll find it all a lot easier from now on. I second 40- get him on the boob as much as possible, whenever he's awake really, lots of water, as much rest as possible, and eat lots of healthy food.

ponyo it is waaaaay easier second time round as you know more what you're doing and don't have time to worry about little things. Nap time is precious in our house, I struggle without my hour's sleep at 1.30.

debka · 09/03/2011 20:35

x-post knitta, thinking of you and wishing you an induction like mine (the second one, where the baby was actually born, that is!), if it comes to that. xxx

40Weeks · 09/03/2011 20:46

Oh knitta so sorry, I know exactly how you feel as did the same with ds1 and had been hoping for a home birth. You have my every sympathy and I will keep everything crossed for you. Either way you should have your bubba by the weekend! Yay x

americanexpat · 09/03/2011 20:50

knitta - fingers cross you go into labour before Friday!

angels - can I ask how much you get when pumping? I was only getting about 20ml from both breasts when I was pumping, the BF support worker and I decided it wasn't worth the time to pump and to BF him during that time instead.

Sorry to hear so many of us are struggling with supply problems. BF always seemed to be the "easy" option but it's really not!

ledkr · 09/03/2011 21:54

oh knitta sorry about that, what a shame? I was the same when trying for vbac with dd1 they would only allow it if labour started naturally, went a week over and had date booked for section, had reflexology on the friday and went into labour on the Monday.Still didnt get my vbac tho but at least tried.Im not surprised that you are emotional after all the waiting around,im sure your birth will still be lovely ook at my high tech one without a hint of a pain, still have my lovely Delilah Smile

NeedToSleepZZZ · 10/03/2011 00:06

knitta so sorry you're feeling down, it won't be long now though. please don't get too disheartened if you get induced, although I'd really wanted a hb I had a great birth in hospital. Thinking of you.

granny I've heard that fenugreek is good for increasing supply as well as fennel. If you're really concerned the gp can prescribe domperidone though.

I'm off to sleep now

tadjennyp · 10/03/2011 03:35

In the olden days (like when I was born) they used to give nursing mothers milk stout to increase their supply! I'm sure the odd guinness wouldn't hurt. Lots of fluid and healthy eating helps most though, and not being stressed about it, which is easier said than done.
