Took it upon myself to start a new thread. Everyone's popping right now!

PS: Sorry for the awful rhyme, it was all I could think of Blush

NothIng exciting here, things have slowed right down. At the park with the kids, dh 'working from home' just in case, trying to get lots of walking in. Boooooo

Deliaskis · 25/02/2011 12:25

Not been on much since DD was born, life has become a lot more hectic!

Congrats to all the new mums and 'baby out' vibes to those still waiting.

We've had a few ups and downs to be honest. Claudia never really got the hang of breast feeding. Well she did, but was too tiny and sleepy to stay on for long enough to get enough and lost 13% of her body weight over the first week Sad . So we've been back in hospital for an overnight and am now feeding a combination of EBM and formula. I feel a bit guilty that I couldn't get us both to crack breast feeding, but it was doing none of us any good to have her getting smaller and smaller and just not getting enough nutrition.

Am a bit Angry at the MWs though as they visited 5 times during the weight loss time, and still kept banging on and on about breast feeding (and a couple did observe a feed and seemed to think it was fine), when what my baby really needed, given she was getting smaller and weaker, was to have a bottle. She is still getting some of my milk so that will help, and hopefully weight will be on the up now. She has had one increase weigh in yesterday, and has maintained today, so I'm hoping we have turned a corner. Was hoping for another increase today, but will have to be patient.

I don't know if the problem was me, or not enough BF support early on (although I felt quite confident when we left hospital), or just that my little girl couldn't crack it. Anyway, we have to move on and put it behind us.

Sorry if this goes against what people feel strongly about, it's just our experience was not doing my DD any good. Goodl uck to all those ladies out there who have cracked it though, I am in awe of you!

Hope everybody is well and being well cared for.

Dx

knittakid · 25/02/2011 12:34

That's reassuring Ponyo, even if the pain is just about once an hour or so it's nice to think that am not just a complete wimp...

delia don't apologise! we'll all do whatever is best for our individual situation, lets just be glad there are options to help us sort out these problems, hope the weight gain continues and you are right that even just a little expressed milk is better than nothing, good luck.

Oh 40 feel your pain... isn't it weird to actually wish to hurt?

I am worried about angels too, although it must be such a busy time for them so feel selfish wanting an update. Sending lots of love anyway!

Have fun all of you having delightful visitors this weekend!

40Weeks · 25/02/2011 12:51

Delia don't apologize, you are doing what's best for dd, which is much more important than than keeping others happy. And she is getting breast milk which is fabulous, how many people do you know as adults that are deficient in some way because they were bottle fed - who could even tell? Don't beat yourself up. Hope the weight gain continues.

knitta how frustrating is this!?!? Stretch, some are every 20 mins, some every 30. Feel like I am doing it all wrong. So I had a cadbury's creme egg

40Weeks · 25/02/2011 12:52

Don't know why I typed stretch!!

knittakid · 25/02/2011 12:56

Grin Grin it must have been your cervix talking!!??? hilarious!
Just wanted to watch the other one born every minute episodes and could not get through the titles without crying, I think I better watch something else...

PinkiePoo · 25/02/2011 13:12

Ahh congrats everyone......who is still hanging on? Surely not many left now? how exciting!! We will have to be a post-natal thread soon!

Nights are so so much better, but the poor tummy cramps aren't. I am giving it till next week and then i will speak to my HV and suggest reflux? as it really does disrupt her feeds when she gets the tummy ache.

She is supposed to move to 4oz today but she is barely having 3!!Mind you she is only 6Ib 11 x x

NeedToSleepZZZ · 25/02/2011 14:07

pinkie Ben is the same, he has formula at night and is now nearly 4 weeks so meant to have 4oz but that rarely happens, he normally finishes 3 before falling back to sleep but he's feeding well (bf) in the day and is a happy boy and putting on weight so I'm not concerned. He was 6lb 4oz at birth but is now over 7lb (I tihnk).

update from angels, she's STILL in hospital, think that's day four, awaiting the doctor to have her waters broken after induction didn't work. She's really going through it but knowing you're all cheering her on helps!

to anyone waiting to pop, i watched a film really loudly the day before giving birth (along with walking like a lunatic and bouncing on the birth ball until it wore away the carpet!).

EauRouge · 25/02/2011 14:42

Poor angels :( I hope she gets her baby soon. Glad she's OK though, thanks for the update.

debka · 25/02/2011 15:21

Been popping on a couple of times a day just to see how angels is, needto thanks for updates, please send all my love, if i were a bit closer I'd go and visit her in hosp and break her waters myself!! [hmmm]

delia important thing is that you and baby are doing well, and if a bottle does that then that's the best thing for you both. Am secretly v Envy of you ff ladies, particularly ledkr with her drunken nights out!! I am lucky i suppose in that I've never struggled with bfing, seems to come naturally. Does mean I'm tied to a baby (and am also seemingly attached to a toddler too who no longer loves anyone but me, sigh, she used to love her aunties and granny but now only I will do).

roundthehouses · 25/02/2011 15:36

hello all, quick birth announcement, our wee boy was born at 2am yesterday after a very quick labour, no time for any pain relief at all pushing stage very quick and no stitches. All a bit of a shock to be honest esp. when they said no time for epidural - but was less than an hour from entering hospital at 4cms to our son being born so luckily didn´t have time to dwell on it! Hospital protocol should have kept us in til saturday but I couldn´t be bothered with that and discharged us both last night (to widespread disapproval all around), so nice to be home.

Good luck to those in labour and those still waiting - i wish you all speedy (but not TOO speedy!!) and as pain free as possible labours. Look forward to seeing more birth announcements soon. sorry it is short and sweet but a friend has kindly taken ds1 out so i have to go stare at the new addition for a bit while i can Smile

knittakid · 25/02/2011 17:42

Congrats roundthe!! well done! sounds very very nice, hope you are well and get the chance to settle in nicely.

Can't believe angelss been 4 days at hospital! poor thing!

tadjennyp · 25/02/2011 18:02

Congratulations roundthe! That sounds really nice! Don't worry delia - my dh was entirely ff and has a PhD in Physics so clearly didn't affect him negatively at all. If you're still expressing milk you could always try again a bit later if you want when dd is a bit bigger. I always find it much easier once their mouths are bigger to get them to latch on properly. But you do what is best for your family and don't let anyone else tell you differently.

Poor angels. I hope she gets her baby really soon. I had ds in my arms about 6 hours after my waters were broken!

PinkiePoo · 25/02/2011 20:08

Great, Molly has stopped wanting milk altogether!!!!

What is wrong??? She has been off it all day and now just not wanting it. We took it to 4 oz today, so would that make the milk thicker? so weird!!!!

wigglesrock · 25/02/2011 20:56

Congratultions roundthehouses and grannyapple

Pinkie Bringing the quantity up shouldn't make a difference to the consistency of the feed, maybe she's just having an off day, sometimes Anna will feed and feed and then not have as much the next day , you're right in your earlier post she is still quite small.

Got discharged from community midwife today and had first Health Visitor appt this morning. She's very nice if a bit cheerful first thing in the morning Grin. Anna is doing really well, didn't lose any weight and is now just short of 9lbs. The HV was here for a good 45 mins and I felt really looked after, she really took her time and spent ages looking at Anna, she will be referred for a hip check because she was breach at 30 weeks but dd2 was exactly the same and apart from the breach presentation there were no other pointers.

Angels Fingers crossed, it won't be long now. Thanks for keeping us updated needtosleep.

Delia All of my three are formula fed. Claudia will be grand.

americanexpat · 25/02/2011 21:12

Delia - Leo and I are in the same boat. He'd lost just over 11% of his weight at 1 week, so we spent Tuesday night in hospital. He fed much better there, put on a bit of weight, then when we came home it was back to the same and he lost weight again. The breastfeeding support worker was in yesterday and left a pump, so he got a bit of EBM overnight as well as breastfeeding. After speaking to the midwife this morning, we've added top-ups with formula after breastfeeding. I'm still pumping so he's getting EBM for a top-up when I finally get 60mls. They said that my blood loss and anaemia are probably affecting my milk supply and it might improve if I keep breastfeeding and pumping and taking the iron tablets.

I'm a bit upset about it (especially as his birth was not the type I wanted at all) but I know it's for the best. Hopefully my supply will sort itself out and I can exclusively breastfeed after a while.

americanexpat · 25/02/2011 21:21

I also meant to post that his birth weight was 8 lbs 4 oz for the stats.

hubbard86 · 25/02/2011 22:41

me and freya are doing ok. I'm just extremely tender after the way they got her out in surgery. She seems to be feeding really well. Tho i'd forgotten how much they explode nappy wise. Already had an up the back 1. She feeds every hour so i'm pretty exhausted. My ds never took to bf so this is all a bit new. Just wish i could cough without feeling my insides are going to fall out. Excuse the ramblin sleep deprivation my old frenemy

ledkr · 25/02/2011 22:59

hubbard hold a pillow against your belly.
delias its normal to feel guilty when stop feeding, the mws are told to enforce encourage bf and can make you feel very bad for stopping but as wiggles said babies thrive on both and in my opinion its better to have a happy mum.
pinkieIs she feeding now?Are you using 4oz water as well as scoops?D fusses at most feeds and you have to really persevere with it,its all very stressfull tho.You need to speak to someone if she still isnt feeding.

MizK · 26/02/2011 02:41

delia I'll second what wiggles said, my babies have been ff and would defy anyone to be able to tell! Obv bf is the ideal but your baby will be perfectly fine on formula and from the sounds of it it is the best choice for you both. Must have been so worrying for her to lose so much of her weight. Hope things pick up now!
Congrats to the new arrivals, hope you are all doing well? Sounds like angels ought to be soon, jeez she will have a heck of a birth story by the sounds of things, sucks to be messed about by the hospital for so long.
How are all the babies sleeping? Cassia is two weeks now and blissfully unaware of difference between night and day (hence I'm on my blackberry in bed whilst she stares wide eyed around the room). She also has taken to having half a feed at a time so feeding millions of times a day, despite me trying to fob her off with water and dummies etc. Am I alone in this?

40Weeks · 26/02/2011 07:30

Morning ladies, it's been an eventful night! Our baby boy was born at home (as planned) at 4.31 this morning weighing 8lb6oz. No name yet but pretty straight forward birth although took forever and mw only arrived 10mins before he was born!

Hope all is well with you all, will post again later and try to catch up with all your news x

EauRouge · 26/02/2011 09:24

Congrats 40Weeks! Glad the MW arrived in the nick of time, talk about dramatic Grin That'll be a good story to tell when your DS is older.

STILL NOTHING for me, will I still be allowed in the Feb post-natal group if I don't have the baby in the next 2 days? Confused

Grannyapple · 26/02/2011 10:20

Ooh congrats 40wks

Been an interesting first night at home! Nate has a slight Tongue tie & I have flat nipples that need coaxing each time!! Have resorted to 2 small formula feeds at night to ensure he gets something....today will be interesting. Finding it difficult to know if he is getting enough colostrum...hoping it will be easier to tell when milk comes in.

No news from angels yet??

knittakid · 26/02/2011 10:39

40 came to check on you, congratulations!!! looking forward to hearing it all and your chosen name, but for now hope you are resting and having a good cuddle.

Oh Eau, am here too! I'll form a picket line if not allowed, go on strike and deprive you all of my always incredibly vaulable insight and never-ending knowledge Wink...

I had some stronger pain last night, don't know if they are contractions as they are quite long and more like bad period pains, but still about an hour appart, I'll be trying everything this weekend (again), or maybe not... now am scared!

janedoe25 · 26/02/2011 11:34

Congrats 40weeks!

I had some very regular and painful BH between 3am and 6am but still nothing! Off out for a walk around the loch with MIl this afternoon to help, Ha my OH and I participated in some maritals last night, god it was uncomfortable!
