New thread for us August 11 ladies

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
littlemisslozza · 17/03/2011 13:23

rugbywidow yes, that's what I've used for my two (after trying a normal baby bath and hating it). I'll be using the same again this time as they are great, soft and easy to use. I think I got mine from babies'r'us or mothercare, they seem to be around £7-8 wherever.

littlemissw thanks for the tip Smile. DS2 seems to be over the worst now but I will bear it in mind if DS1 gets it in the next couple of weeks! I found that 'virasoothe' gel was great to cool the spots, it's especially for chickenpox and DS2 just lay there while I put it on, so it must have relieved the itching.

majoomoo glad to hear your little one is better now too.

KLou Red sounds lovely!

MrsStevo · 17/03/2011 13:24

oh rugby believe me, I am usually the first person to eat through illness!! The only thing that stopped me this time was the D&V as the impact of eating was too unbearable!!

I bet those shooting pains were proper scary. Have they completely disappeared again now? I keep getting really sharp pains in what feels like the neck of my cervix (sorry if TMI). Again, totally irrationally, I get a bit panicked about it and think that the plug up there will just shoot out and the babies will come sailing out like a log flume.

I STUPIDLY started watching that 'born at 23 weeks' programme that was on last week and watched a woman who went into labour at 23 weeks and her baby was 1lb and sadly didn't survive. I blubbed and wailed like a banshee (was clearly having an emotional day) and now every time I have any kind of discharge (sorry again) I fret that my waters might be about to break and said log flume will commence.

I'm annoying myself!! Must sound like I'm a complete lunatic... but I'm really very normal and rational about every other part of my life!!!

RugbyWidow7 · 17/03/2011 13:44

You poor thing MrsStevo - sounds like it was horrendous but so glad you're better.

Yes the pains have gone again now. Fingers crossed they don't come back - I wonder if it's something to do with the particularly uncomfortable car seats in our car - can't wait until we change it!

I know what you mean about watching programmes, you'd probably be advised not to. I look forward to One Born Every Minute so much - all my friends think I'm mad. Something about it makes me want to watch, yet I blub all the way through! I also imagine the worst the whole time. Just had the handyman in to look at the mould in the nursery! He thinks it'll be fine once killed off, but that doesn't stop me worrying about the prospect of damp in the baby's bedroom!!!

Thanks for the tip Littlemisslozza - I think I'm going to go with one of these as I'm sure they're great space savers as well.

Got my doppler last night - so thrilled with it!

KLou111 · 17/03/2011 14:33

wishwales another one here which I was looking at first :) comes with everything and can be reversed too.

Leilandri LOVE the bath float and mat, brilliant!!!

Glad you got your doppler Rugby, best things ever :)

FeralGirlCambs · 17/03/2011 14:39

Hi Alibaba and welcome! Being proper ill and pg sounds horrid MrsStevo - hope you're fighting fit again now.

Was 20 weeks yesterday and think I might nearly have a bump at last, visible in a tight top, though all my normal clothes still feel fine (I've only put on a kg; please don't hit me - it's possible to be paranoid about ANYTHING!). Anyway, had my scan today and everything is totally fine; there really is a baby in there (we didn't find out what flavour) and all its bits seem to be in the right places except it was lying in an uncooperative way so I have to go back for one heart blood vessel measurement, one of the big arteries, which they could not see (because of baby's position not because they should have been able to see it and couldn't). So in a way I'm quite pleased - another little look at what's cooking in 10 days time!

Re the 23 weeks programme, which I didn't see, I know someone who's a leading neo-natologist consultant and she said, somewhat bluntly, when I spoke to her the other day 'only another 5 weeks and you've definitely got one', meaning it's almost bound to be ok after 25 weeks... So that's a date to put in the diary (20th April for me)! not trying to tempt fate her. Smile

RugbyWidow7 · 17/03/2011 14:55

Re. car seats. All any of my friends have is the maxi cosy - they literally all have it! Klou do you plan to use the one that's part of the travel system you buy? Not sure whether there's something about the maxi cosy I should know before buying one as part of a 'system'...

Feral - really interesting what your medical friend said. Though I just looked at my diary and 25 weeks is still 7 weeks away for me! Feels like forever waiting for the next scan again too - 2.5 weeks to go and counting! Feeling very behind those on here who've already had theirs. Envy Just kidding.

lilyraesmommy · 17/03/2011 16:24

HURRY UP!!!!

lilyraesmommy · 17/03/2011 16:34

hi sillyness, how are you finding your pregnancy, i love being pregnant even with all the tirdness lol will you be finding out the sex of your baby / x

Gonnabe · 17/03/2011 16:44

Hi guys
I am due on Aug 11 with my first - just watching your pram chat with interest. I have my heart set on the new Bugaboo Bee - am suprised no one has mentioned it - am I alone ....???

RugbyWidow7 · 17/03/2011 17:00

Wow lots of newbies to the thread today. Welcome Sillyness, lilyraesmommy and Gonnabe.

I looked at the Bugaboo Bee originally Gonnabe and can't really remember why it didn't suit, but prob wasn't tall enough for us, as that has been the case with many of the original prams I liked.

Annie456 · 17/03/2011 17:21

Welcome to the thread everyone!

MrsS don't you worry about people queue jumping your EDD, I am right at the back of the line!! Only just getting to my 16 weeks check tomorrow!!

Re: travel systems, I've read that a lot of people end up with a seperate buggy after about 1 year so I think I might try to get a second hand travel system. I've seen some good condition iCandy's for about £200 on ebay. I wouldn't mind paying full price for it if I got lots of use out of it but I'd be gutted to spend that much just for a year....any more experienced mummies have a view on this?

Also, whats the deal with car seats and travel systems. We've just been given a car seat from friends (don't actually have it yet so not sure of the name)but presumably it won't be compatable with any old travel system so the moving a sleeping baby from pram to car would mean disturbing said baby and waking him/her up?!! So it there any point in us accepting this car seat? Sorry for the long post!

Annie456 · 17/03/2011 17:22

and sorry for the complete lack of punctuation in my last para...wow! (babybrain!)

RugbyWidow7 · 17/03/2011 17:58

Hi Annie. Non experienced mummy here (but I do have some experienced friends Smile to study intenslydraw upon). A friend has an Icandy Cherry and other friends have lent them a maxi cosy to use in the car (like your situ). They bought adapters and it works a treat. I think maxi cosys are pretty versatile because of these adapters, but not sure about all the others. Hope that helps a bit. Shamrock

lilyraesmommy · 17/03/2011 18:14

hi there yes aniie456 i agree with you when i had my little girl i had a travel system but it didnt get much use because as soon as the nicer weather was here i brought a coloured buggy but i did keep the travel system and will be using it for baba number 2 then do the same by buying a buggy as soon as winter is over xxx

KLou111 · 17/03/2011 19:26

Welcome to all the newbies, and congrats to you all on your little bumps, or not :)

Rugby yes I'll be buying the travel system Jane. (and Annie) It's got everything, and frankly I can't be arsed to buy a separate car seat, pram and pushchair. Would rather buy everything that is compatible with each other. Also want to be able to have the ability to not wake up baby.
Spoke to my Dad earlier as he retired today, yippee!! He's been on youtube looking at the system lol (as they're buying it) he said 'disc brakes, what the hell does a pram need disc brakes for?' :) and when I said it was also all terrain, you can guess the response to that. Think things have come a long way :)

Firawla · 17/03/2011 20:00

i wouldn't worry too much about spending money on a buggy you like if just worried you wont use it for so long, i would get it for now then if you change to a lighter buggy later just sell it! you will make quite a bit back hopefully

littlemisslozza · 17/03/2011 20:52

KLou my husband loved the disc brakes (gadgets hey?!) and I have to admit that I thought they looked pointless, however, they are really really good on steep hills like in my local town!

CappuccinoCarrie · 17/03/2011 21:09

very quick checking in as I'm at parents house.

those with no bumps....you have something I can only dream of: stomach muscles! Frustrating as it may be now, you'll smug yourself when you ping back into shape afterwards!

baby baths we borrowed one for DD, didn't use one for DS and don't intend to for this one, although we do have quite a small bath that doesn't take too long to fill. A friend with a bigger bath swears by the tummy tub (google it!) or even an Ikea trofast storage box....they do three different sizes!! A midwife taught us the 'dragon claw grip' where you rest the baby's head on your forearm (between elbow and wrist) and wrap your hand round their far shoulder with your middle finger meeting your thumb. Then you use the other hand to wash them (just water is fine). THey can't twist out of this position and are free to kick their legs.

Travel system with forward/rear facing, lie flat and suitable to toddler....can't remember who was asking, but a friend who did a lot of research got a Mothercare own brand one. The seat converted into a pram for baby by inverting the foot rest. I was really impressed with it, think it was called the My3 (or My4) but this was 3 years ago.

I'm sure there was something else but I can't remember. Time to go as my mum wants to thrash me at play scrabble :)

neverlookback · 17/03/2011 21:13

wow not been on for so long this thread is not ever highlighted when i get to it! Im plodding along, 2 weeks to scan, my dp ordered a doppler for me as a surprise which is so not like him but he knew i kept looking at them! he has ordered a proper midwife one that was £50!! i was just gonna get an angel sounds one! but i bet i can sell it on ebay afterwards for about half that,

I really want a dreamjeani pillow but they are so expensive too!
leilandri thanks for the brilliant link for the buggypod was almost convinced that we would be getting a phil and teds, ds will be 2.9 when baby arrives but he runs off a lot and is a terrible walker, theres also the bibi strolli that is like a bike seat and handle bars that fits on the side of pram too that looks good.

yukana there are some people that seem to prowl mumsnet just waiting to insult and really judge, i think they are very unhappy and it makes them feel better to dish out horrible nasy advice and opinions, ive had it a few times over relationships posts and noted it was the same people even on posts months apart, ignore them u know they are talking utter rubbish! hopefully when your baby arrives dp will get involved and realise that staying up all night on laptop and staying in bed in the morn is just not possible and he will get into a better routine with you and the baby x

i need to carry on catching up .......

MrsVidic · 18/03/2011 06:59

I have the tommy tub and highly recommend it, prevents colic and then you can put it in the sink so you can bath stood up instead of bent over, your back will ache lots when the baby comes. A mixture of carrying baby and holding to feed.

I am 20 weeks + 1 today, officially over half way! I can't wait until 28 weeks when were a lot safer!

I spoke to hr on Monday at work and feel a lot safer in my job. Leilandri I started my job in Jan so was a few months preg. The majority of staff have been lovely about it, and it won't affect my future in the company I have been assured!

I have a mega busy day today, I have a play date with dd friend and his mum in the park in the morning then a mummy friends meet up with toddlers this afternoon. First time mums I wouldn't worry about losing your social life as toddlers are great social networkers !

I then have a hen do tonight for a friend and I'm driving, I have no idea what I will wear!

On the clothes front Dp is letting my loose with his bank card to get some clothes for work, now I can relish the bump! I'm going to get some dresses!

Hello to all new posters, you've found an addictive thread!

Yukana · 18/03/2011 07:46

Thank you, neverlookback.

Woke up at 6am, browsed the internet, watched a couple of shows, and popped on mumsnet. I have a tendency to read each month's antenatal club topic when that month arrives, so read through some of March.
Warning, this is not going to be pleasant:
After reading that one woman gave birth and her little girl was stillborn, I burst into tears and haven't been able to stop crying since. Have had to shut myself up though as DP is sleeping next to me, I'd rather he didn't see me in such a state.

I have to go out with a friend and her little seven month old girl today, hopefully that will cheer me up a bit. I guess it doesn't really help that I've been worried about my baby a lot the past couple of days, but I'm hopefully things will be just fine as my scan is in three days.
Will catch up with everything properly later. x

FeralGirlCambs · 18/03/2011 08:54

Morning Yukana - I think it's completely natural to be upset about these kind of things. I was crying in the gym Blush the other day because there was a show on about Great Ormond St chronically ill babies. Hopefully it looked like I was sweating hard!

I'm sure your scan will be reassuring. I'd half convinced myself there was nothing there (despite 16 week heartbeat and lots of movement since) but had my scan and everything was totally fine. Had been paranoid that not putting on weight meant baby would be stunted, but far from it! Cheer up... X

Anu3 · 18/03/2011 11:27

Welcome to all the new ladies and Congratulations on your bumps!

Best advise my mid wife gave me and Im glad ive followed it so far is to STOp watching all baby related programmes on TV!! After the first episode of 'One born every minute' i was in tears and mentioned to my mid wife about how scared i was about something going wrong. She said its most natural to be upset and scared about the pregnancy but the best thing to do is not read/ see anything that could upset u even more. I think her advise worked for me - Im much less scared / paranoid about things since i stopped watching all the TV shows. :)

Im 20 weeks +1 day today Yippe and have 9 days to go until my Anomaly scan!! Counting hours literally!

x

Annie456 · 18/03/2011 11:51

Just had my 16 week appt (can you ladies remember that far back?!) she didn't listen for a heartbeat but I was prepared for that.
She went through my blood results and my platelet count came back really low. She took another blood test and I'll get the results next week. But she said that if they come back low again I'll have to be referred to a consultant...and it means I won't be able to have an epidural in labour!!!

Anyone else had low platelet count?
