My SIL did a lot of dizziness/fainting during first trimester BB . Apparently summat to do with insanity hormones and body making extra blood and stuff. Better eat some dark chocolate just in case you're anaemic (what a great excuse to eat chocolate).

rocketleaf · 07/02/2011 11:45

awww! cute upside down owlet!! Sorry but I could help laugh at the piss sticks, very impressively organised

rocketleaf · 07/02/2011 11:50

btw did anyone go on a 'babymoon'? this is a daft expression really but TB and I were thinking of getting away somewhere for a long weekend before Sprout arrives as its the last time well get to for a while. Problem is we want to go in this country and with a June 1st due date we want to get some half decent weather but not leave it so late that I will be unable to do very much. Extra long bank holiday would have been ideal as we could hopefully swerve all the royal wedding rubbish as well but I will be 8 months by then so that will probably be too late. Anyone got any advice on timing it?

owlbooty · 07/02/2011 12:01

in my defence I was trying to cheer up someone who'd had a crap puny line at 12-14 DPO :)

Has GG still got the piss-stick christmas tree on her profile? I may have to check, cos that was awesome.

Love the idea of a babymoon, btw. May is usually a lovely month for good weather and no tourists anywhere. Get thee to the South Coast, Cornwall or Devon will be lovely at that time of year.

Scorpette · 07/02/2011 12:14

Poor Loz (or poor Mr Loz? Wink) and your Weekend of Menkul. I can't think of anything more terrifying than a ranting preggo wielding The Yorkshire Pud of Doom!

I'm quite emoshunnul naturally but the worst thing for me has been my memory going shite. I used to have a photographic memory but now I constantly do stuff like think 'have we got any tomatoes left?' and go to the fridge to check and by the time I get to the fridge door, I've completely forgotten what I've gone over for Blush (and the fridge is only a few feet from the sofa!). Is so fucking frustrating! What with that and all me bones aching and waddling about feebly, I feel about 80!

Boo, I love 'worth its weight in saffron' Grin. Have been thinking (way ahead) of BF pillows n ting. Some say you can use the big long pillows to wrap about you to perform the same duty, so am in two minds.

Rocket, we've been mulling over a babymoon - only a weekend away in somewhere like Bath - but we've become almost phobic about spending any money that's 'unnecessary'. Stoopid really, esp. as we didn't have a holiday last year, as we started TTC on our 2009 holiday and the thought of holidays made us both depressed Sad

Kate - Angry on your behalf. You need Teh Secks, not drunken, snoring farty man in bed. Hope he's suitably contrite today.

Booty, love your piss-stick madness Grin I salute you!

rocketleaf · 07/02/2011 12:17

Yeah but I won't be!!! :D I don't think a 5+ hour drive to Cornwall at 8 months would be a fun time, we are prob going to stick closer to home, north wales or the lakes. And I think its going to have to be some time in April which is a pain as its too early really. Great idea for you tho booty as May would be perfect timing for you.

Medee · 07/02/2011 12:19

Freebies ? all the major supermarkets have a baby club, usually you get free nappies, extra loyalty points etc. Probably worth it, but especially for whichever supermarket you are a regular shopper in. The Asda one is the Huggies Newborn Starter Set: free Huggies, free wipes and a hat. Tesco is free nappies. Sainsbury?s, I think you have to buy one pack of Pampers to unlock all the other offers. Boots baby club has extra advantage points and freebies. Pampers should also send you a free nappy sample. Bounty ? I was exploring last night; there is a freebie pack at various stages of pregnancy/ baby?s life, second is the one to collect at Boots or Sainsbury?s. Form has a ?please don?t contact me? box. Was trying to find out what kind of organisation Bounty is (private, govt funded, etc) but no clue, so perhaps just use it for getting the packs.

Bookstart has lost its funding, but its Scottish equivalent, Bookbug is still going- free books at various stages of your baby?s life, collected through the library. Also in Scotland, govt has a campaign called Play Talk Read, with a DVD and a ?play cube? all about helping parents to play and read with their children. I?ve got the DVD, just waiting for the cube to arrive. Daily Record is currently giving away Ladybird books in conjunction with this campaign for 2 tokens. Also, the formula milk companies have baby clubs with free cuddly toys, though I haven?t registered with them.

Medee · 07/02/2011 12:19

Just back from the midwife, all well. Measuring slightly under, so maybe I am ?neat?! baby still head down though not engaged. Waterbirth discussed; can birth as well as labour in the pool, and apparently they?ve just installed a new pool, dimmed lighting, all very nice, etc. So all sounds good, but just my luck on the day if I get to use it.

Scorpette · 07/02/2011 12:28

Great news about the neatness, all being well and the water birth possibilities, Medee. That pool sounds really lovely :)

And cheers for the info on baby freebie clubs. I really ought to sort that sort of stuff out. I ain't got nuffink since I rang Bounty to complain that they'd given my address out to all and sundry and they had to admit that I'd ticked the right box to forbid permission to do so.

laurielou · 07/02/2011 12:29

Booty your pics on profile are hilarious! Owlet on his head is just the cutest / funniest thing.

Rocket No idea on perfect timing for babymoon, but Mr Loz & I are planning a week away in March. Last March we stayed in Devon for a week, travelling around Devon / Cornwall - the weather was shocking, but we dressed up warm & dry & pretended to walk for a bit, or mooch around little towns & villages, then spend the afternoon cosying up in a pub. We're thinking of pretty much the same thing this year, though hugging an orange juice isn't quite the same. The cottage we stayed at also had a masseuse that would come over to your cottage - bliss!

I have a severe case of can't-be-arsed today. I've counted I have 49 days left to work. And I still haven't bought anything baybee related. Meh.

HighPriestessBoo · 07/02/2011 12:33

We didn't go on a babymoon Sprocks but Fishandlilacs did - they went to a lovely place in Glastonbury for the weekend. I think they really enjoyed it. I think it's a lovely idea - time to enjoy the way things are when it's just the two of you.

We sort of had one early I suppose as I found out I was diffed when we were in Bali on our 'cheer ourselves up after the mc' holiday!

Scorps My SIL bought me one of those wrap around pregnancy pillows and I found it very frustrarting to bf with as it was too squishy and smallchild's head kept disappearing into it away from the boob- the widgey is much firmer - although there are a few negative reviews of it on Amazon whoch surprised me - people saying it didn't fit etc. I am a size 18 and my neightbour is a 12, we both had one and thought them marvellous.

Owlie Your piss stick collection is enviable - I love it!

HighPriestessBoo · 07/02/2011 12:35

Pls to excuse my typos Blush. Am blaming being poorly sick.

HighPriestessBoo · 07/02/2011 12:38

barbie my pregnant friend at work has been having dizzy spells - her doc said it was caused by her low blood presure and it was all normal. But do go and get checked out if you want some reassurance or ought.

BarbiesBeaver · 07/02/2011 12:57

Thanks for the inputs re. dizziness. My blood pressure was taken last week boo and the Dr did say "nice and low" so maybe that's it. Makes sense.

Medee that pool sounds amazing. I hope you get a go in it.

HighPriestessBoo · 07/02/2011 13:02

I'm not even diffed and I fancy a go in it - sounds like a spa pool :o

LadyGoneGaga · 07/02/2011 13:19

BB I had really bad dizziness for first few weeks. actually passed out on bedroom floor once. Just go really steady getting up. Can be caused by low blood pressure and anaemia so wouldn't hurt to start on the Spatone. It has gone away now am in the Second tri so hopefully will do same for you too.

Owlie not sure on this doppler. It did make me anxious but was really reassuring over the weekend. As Sprocket said will become a bit redundant when am feeling kicks all the time. But it might still be useful for those times when baby is a bit quiet or you've been busy and suddenly realise you've not felt a kick all day and then start prodding your belly in panic.

Loving your piss sticks by the way - am glad i'm not the only menkuler in the village! Grin

At my 16 week appt they listened in but only cos I asked and they did a disclaimer first that if they couldn't find the HB they wouldn't scan me. But they found it staright away and would just have gone and paid for a private scan I reckon if they couldn't.

Medee Bounty are a private organisation with some public links. So they are the only private eople allowed into hospitals with their packs for example. I wrote a proposal to do some research for them years ago. Didn't win it though. Their business model is getting money from all the companies who advertise with them/stick freebies in. I think the packs are worth getting as I like all the travel size dinky pots of sudacrem etc.

Rocket we are going for 2 weeks in Crete in May (will have to get Dr to sign off the travel). Not sure it counts as a babymoon but well earned relaxation time. Also MiniG loves holidays and want to spend some good quality time with him before I turn his ittle world upside down! I think you'd be ok going away early May - just take notes and a hospital bag with you in case anything does happen and details of where your nearest hospital would be. With a first labour you'd probaby get plenty of warning to drive back in case of things starting.

rocketleaf · 07/02/2011 13:39

Thanks for the advice, I was more thinking that I prob wouldn't feel like doing loads of walking which if we are going lakes/north wales would be the point really, more than something kicking off early. Hmm, will have a think on. laurie I think end of march/ early april sounds more realistic. and would have the advantage of being quieter I spose.

I was supposed to be getting some winter sun in a few weeks time, but had a good chat with my Dad when I was home last weekend and said if it would help him I would be happy to stay with him for the week instead. He rang me a few days ago and asked me to check with the travel agent that it would affect the rest of the tickets because I booked it (I knew it wouldn't) so it is looking likely that thats what will happen. I am really not that bothered actually and I don't think I could have enjoyed myself knowing he was at home fretting so its all good, but the docs have upped his meds so if by some miracle he is feeling loads better by next week I can still go. Have to wait and see!

Great news re the waterbirth medee and your 'neat' bump. The pool sounds fab, fingers crossed you can get in.

Take it easy BB dont want you keeling over!! And hope the heads feeling better score

Medee · 07/02/2011 13:42

I had Doppler at 16w appointment, but MW said it was early so not to worry if she couldn?t find it: thankfully she did.

We had a weekend in London at the last possible date for flying without doctor?s letter etc. But if you don?t want to go abroad, why not go to a nice country hotel somewhere in the UK?

owlbooty · 07/02/2011 13:44

Right, am definitely going to ask/wail then. Due to stupid anterior placenta I won't be feeling kicks for weeks and weeks yet so might actually get some use out of a doppler.

Pool sounds fabulous, Meds :)

Sprocket didn't know you were oop north - lakes would be lovely in April, all springy with boingy lambs everywhere and daffodils like what that Wordsworth blokey was wittering about. Some lovely B&Bs out in the sticks too.

rocketleaf · 07/02/2011 13:52

yes I love the lakes. I would LOVE to stay here but think its a bit pricey when we could probably get a self catering cottage for the price of one night :D

ginhag · 07/02/2011 14:21

Sorry haven't caught up. Just went out the the shops and either I just wet myself in public or my waters have started going. Have to go in to hosp to get check, sounds like they'll let me back out again tho.

Crikey heck.

Scorpette · 07/02/2011 14:35

OOOOOOH, Gin! Excitements! Crikey heck indeed. Good luck, gorgeous - we're here for you

milanomum · 07/02/2011 14:37

ginnninininin!! if those are your waters, you'll be meeting baybeegin very soon!

rocket a bit fo time off pre-baby sounds like a lovely, lovely idea. We are currently trying to decide whether to book a holiday in June (without littl'un) or early sept (with), I am of course opting for the June one. Luckily we are a bit spoiled for choice about where to go living here...

medee hope you get a dip in that pool!

Barbs I have v low bp too and suffer from dizziness if I get up too quickly.

Owlie those P.S.s are awe-inspiring. Owlet is cute as a little upside-down thing.

I have ordered an evil doppler. It is on its way and I shall succumb to much menkul as a result.

PollyPoo · 07/02/2011 14:42

Oooh Gin!! You are going to meet your ickle baybee soon, squee!!!

owlbooty · 07/02/2011 14:43

Ooooo Gin Ginny Gin how very very exciting!

Hope it goes well at the hospital you queue jumper, you Grin
