8rubberduckies - I have some size 18 maternity trousers and a pair of size 18 jeans that are way too long for me, but may suit you? You can have them for £10 incl postage if you want them? Got them from Ebay but no good for me!

8rubberduckies · 09/02/2011 12:57

Thanks Kara, but I have got 3 pairs of trousers / jeans from a friend for free, so think I'm sorted. Trying to save the pennies with looming redundancy around the corner Sad. I'm sure someone will have them off you though. have you put them in the For Sale section?

LDNlady · 09/02/2011 13:15

Hi everyone,

I did join one of these threads at the beginning of my pregnancy but it went nuts and before I knew it you lot had blithered your way onto a new thread and another and...... :)

I live in NW London and am 23 weeks today. Due on 8th of June with our first baby and it's a little girl. Have been feeling movements on and off for about three weeks but this past week she's gone a bit potty and is well and truly on the move now. Hubby felt her for the first time on Monday night which was lovely. I hope you are all doing well. Fingers crossed I manage to keep up with this thread this time. :o

8rubberduckies · 09/02/2011 13:23

Welcome back LDNlady, we seem to have calmed down a little now, so not as difficult to keep up! Congratulations on your little girl, I am having one of those as well! Smile

treez10 · 09/02/2011 13:48

Hi everyone. I have a bit of catching up to do as I have been wiped out with a really horrible cold (I hesitate to say flu, but it was a really bad cold!) Perhaps I had man-flu Wink I've still got it now after a week and can't wait for DD to have an afternoon nap today so I can too!

It's lovely to hear about everyone's scans and all the new purchases! I am 20 weeks tomorrow (or saturday, depending on whether you go with the hospital's dating or mine)and I CANNOT WAIT for my scan next Wednesday.

Hope mummies and bumps are doing well and remembering to do their pelvic floor excercises. I have got a terrible cough and it's really made me wish I had done more Blush !!!

loueytb3 · 09/02/2011 13:59

I've been trying to keep up and failing miserably...

Congratulations to all of you who've had good 20wk scans and know what flavour you are having. I would definitely keep your name choices to yourself IRL as all it takes is someone close to you to say that they hate the name and it can make you change your mind. Mind you, I talk from a position of having no names at all until the night before DTs arrived. This was mainly because DH just comes up with joke names until it is about to happen. He named DTs Cyril and Sidney all the way through my first PG (apologies to those of you who like those names but I HATED them). He has already vetoed my entire list but I can guarantee that the name we use is on there somewhere.

jasmine would second the avent microwave steriliser (similar ones are made by other bottle manufacturers). Just check it will fit in your microwave first because it won't go in small ones. It only takes a minute or two to sterilise and it keeps things sterile for many hours with the lid kept on. I really wouldn't fiddle with water/tablets or hot pans. Interestingly, in the US its very difficult to get sterilisers as they all just use their dishwashers to sterilise. Had terrible trouble trying to get hold of one over there when we were on holiday. Also re curtains - if possible get blackout linings on them. They are a godsend when it gets light at the crack of dawn and LO decides its time to get up Hmm

lisascat that's bloody annoying. Why couldn't they have added something to the notes to say the ventouse wasn't actually used in the end?

kara are you still playing with your buggy Grin

merlion I'm sorry about your grandma. I'm sure she will be really touched by your decision to call your DD after her. If you think it will cheer up then I would probably tell her (although she may tell the rest of your family).

tabitha I'm sorry you won't get your HB but its good they've picked up the problem now and will monitor you closely. Ultimately, if you get a nice healthy baby at the end, it doesn't matter how it gets out. I had a similar problem with DTs although was not unexpected as its more common with twins anyway. Out of interest, what meds have they put you on? On the bright side, you will get to see your LO a lot more often before they are born Wink I am going to miss that this time.

clarkiee take it easy and please take the day off sick if you are having a tough time. Re finishing work - I would leave the date as it is at the moment - if you need to finish earlier then get signed off sick. Its very difficult to plan with twins, they can come very early as you know or you may stick it out until 37 weeks. I would make sure that you have your bag packed from around 28wks though. Hope you get the house you want.

20 weeks today - so that means almost all of us are halfway through (EDD is 29th June) Smile. My 20wk scan is next Tuesday and I'm getting very twitchy about it. All the awful news about Amanda Holden is not helping my nerves at all. LO is kicking away though which is good. Will start to buy stuff after the scan although we don't need much (just expensive stuff like a buggy and a cot!).

I'm only on episode 1 of OBEM as DH refuses to watch any birth programmes. Makes me cry every time a baby is born Forceps scare the bejesus out of me and are one reason why I'm not going to attempt a VBAC. Don't fancy having stitches in two places Confused

loueytb3 · 09/02/2011 15:09

Forgot to say, got new Mamas and Papas brochure through the post yesterday and there is a free £5 gift card in it. I ordered it online so may be worth a try for some of you?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 09/02/2011 17:54

Louey - the pushchair is still in the box!!
BTW apparently in the US they don't routinely sterilise, just use dishwashers or wash in hot water.

There was a thread in bottle & breastfeeding a couple of years ago on which someone posted a report by a microbioligist about sterilising, and the fact it is not very effective. He recommended washing everything in very hot soapy water, rinsing thoroughly and then leaving everything to air dry.

Clarkiee · 09/02/2011 17:55

Thanks louey warned the boss that I might not make it to the expected name- but fingers crossed I will. The person who is covering me is going to take on more and more of the whole class responsibilities after half term so hopefully I'll just be like a teaching assisstant (a hugemongus one) before I finish. I got e-mailed a mamas and papas £5 voucher (not bought anything though- must have signed up somewhere).

I'm in a much better mood today Grin Grin Grin Think DH is relieved I was a right mope yesterday (bloody hormonoes).

I've been a bit soft and avoided watching OBEM maybe if I'd already gone through it I might be braver. Think I'm gonna give it a try Hmm

Think my babies have been having hiccups (I get them all the time so figures), simliar little movements spaced out by a few seconds. Anyone else think that their baby has been having them?

jbells · 09/02/2011 18:14

clarkie i have felt my baby have them, when i was pg with DD she used to get them all the time

moomin156 · 09/02/2011 18:28

I have bought a book today........Guess how much I love you".....its such a lovely childrens book. Bought it for DH for Valentines day but its really so he can read it to the bean when its born....LOL

NoToast · 09/02/2011 18:52

Super organised people you are making me feel inadequate. Our LO going to end up being called thingy, sleeping in a drawer, being washed in the sink and hauled around naked in the laundry basket. Must get act together soon.

Have not watched OBEM yet, I am feeling the forceps fear..

jbells · 09/02/2011 19:05

moomin- i ordered that book on amazon last week havnt recieved it yet tho :(

TabithaTwitchet · 09/02/2011 19:29

Moomin, what a great idea for a Valentines present!

Clarkiee · 09/02/2011 19:36

ha ha notoast I'm sure it won't come to that!

NoToast · 09/02/2011 19:46

You're quite right Clarkiee, the local charity shop has two racks of baby clothes for 49p an item. Thingy won't be naked...

Unless of course you were talking about the forceps...

jasmine51 · 09/02/2011 19:56

Lol - ok what do you make of this.... DH has had a bad day - he feels bloated and has had a tender tummy but has not been able to manage 'toilet relief'. He had a lie in this morning because he had a restless night and is complaining his hips hurt. He has an inexplicable craving for tomatoes and liquorice and has now gone to bed feeling really really tired.......do you by any chance think he is having sympathy symptoms?
It wouldnt be the first time he's done something like this...and it doesnt bode well for me being in labour ha ha.

moomin156 · 09/02/2011 20:17

Oh dear jasmine dont give him any sympathy, i think he is just playing up LOL

OP posts:
sasamaxx · 09/02/2011 22:32

Just checking in again.
I've been really rubbish the last few days due to my horrible cold Sad
That is so cool about the sympathy symptoms Jasmine lol

KaraStarbuckThrace · 09/02/2011 22:39

Aww Sassamax :( Your immune system doesn't work as well when you are pg so things like colds tend to hit you harder.

mrswantstobeamum · 10/02/2011 09:45

I felt my baby's hiccups for the first time last night. It was very different from his normal movements, as it was rhythmic and carried on for at least a half hour!

Finally watched that OBEM episode...forceps look awful, and I've decided I definitely don't want pethidine. I much prefer the episodes with the calmer women doing water births, as I'm hoping for a water birth myself.

Off to order that book for DH! (Thanks for the idea moomin!)

jasmine51 · 10/02/2011 10:07

Mrs what fun! I havent had that yet but had a marathon night of being kicked everywhere possible.
I watched that OBEM episode yesterday too - the force of the pulling reminded me of vets trying to pull out a calf..I half expected some rope and long green gloves to appear!
That poor woman with the pethidine...shes going to love looking back at those facial expressions!
I was a bit annoyed on her behalf that they refused her an epidural...then commented that the baby had come out the wrong way round 'which makes things much harder' - surely they should have known that earlier in the labour and offered the poor woman the pain relief she wanted.

CMH1stbaby · 10/02/2011 10:11

moomin - also love the idea for a book! hope you don't mind we're all copying! DH talks to the bump a lot at the moment already, so can imagine him reading the book to it too!

jasmine - am going to keep quiet about the sympathy symptoms, I don't want my DH getting any ideas!!

I'm very impressed with those of you watching OBEM - I used to love it while trying to conceive but now way too terrified
to watch!

I had a big kick by the bebe right in my bladder last night, woke me up and had to rush to the loo! Am hoping he doesn't make a habit of it! Also finally sat down and made a big list of essentials to buy last night - much longer list than I expected so now need to figure out the money / cheapest place to buy each thing! Have ordered our pushchair thing so thats one big item off the list..

will stop wittering now! Have a good day all and hope those who are feeling rubbish feel better soon xx

moomin156 · 10/02/2011 10:14

Oooh CMH do you want to share your list......its on my things to do but not got round to it yet.
We are still in the saving side of things but next month we can start a big spending spree :)
And no of course i dont mind you sharing my valentines idea.....i personally thought it was inspired LOL Grin

takethatlady · 10/02/2011 10:14

mrswantstobeamum from the clips I think there's a bit more of a manic water birth next week, just for balance Shock Grin

I think they just wanted to help the lady with the pethidine to get through it because her biggest problem was fear and confidence, and you can't really medicate for that. But I did think the first midwife was a bit rude - being all nice to her in the delivery room and then walking out rolling her eyes and taking the piss! (I know we all do this at work but maybe not with the cameras rolling ...}
