Agree Princess people do want to know what name you are thinking of. But the worst are those who offer their opinion (unless you actually ask for it) because it can start to put you off a name. We're decided on one, not sure about the other but I might have some decoy names to put them off the scent.

Glad your meeting wasn't half as bad as you thought moomin I got myself all worked up about the situation at work and it wasn't as bad as I thought today! It's defo the hormones Grin

cameli · 07/02/2011 22:17

Gosh this thread does move fast. I must try harder to keep up.

Well done on all the great scan news & sooo jealous of all the weekends away & holidays.

Well we bought a pram/pushchair/car seat last week-it's the mamas & papas Ultima in city scape & I'm very happy with it. We also bought a new house but it's not ready until aug/sept so the baby will only be a few months old. It's gonna be hard work!

I think we have decided on a name but the OH doesn't want to tell anyone yet-what's that all about?!
If u had my way it would be Seraphina, Matilda, Tabitha or Madison but he is having none of them so I have compromised-quite sad about it though.

Seeing the consultant on Wednesday so will get an idea of how early this baby girl is gonna be & I'm now 24+2 so I've made it to 'viability' which is a HUGE achievement considering I was having a threatened miscarriage since 5 weeks!

Only another 7 weeks to go if I deliver the same time as my DS-I hope not though.

jbells · 07/02/2011 22:22

cameli- seraphina is a lovely name :) DP also doesnt like any of my fave names :(

LisasCat · 08/02/2011 07:01

Princess an old colleague of mine was Finnish, and apparently, in Finland, it's really, really bad luck to talk about the name before birth, and they get so offended if anyone dares to raise the subject. As she worked in a primary school she had a lot of people ask, including mums who hardly knew her. She also had a fiery temper and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. Cue lots of heated moments throughout her pregnancy, and several apologies by the head, putting it down to 'hormones'!!!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/02/2011 07:22

I don't like people asking me for the name either. We kept DS's name a secret until he was born, he was one name until I was about 8.5mo and then we decided on another.
People can be quite insistent on knowing or at least nowing out shortlist but I won't even tell people that.
TBH DH and I have only had a couple of vague discussions about names anyway! We've still got another 17 weeks to decide - 23 weeks today!!

I shall be 23 weeks until Saturday, then I will be 23 and a half, and then nearly 24 Grin

crumbletastic · 08/02/2011 08:18

I'm keeping my shortlist of names a secret, well when I've decided what they are anyway! I'm trying not to get focused on 1 name as I have 2 friends due around the same fortnight, and just my luck if I fell in love with a name they are likely to give birth first and choose that name! My husband thinks the other way and thinks we should bandy our chosen name about so they are less likely to choose it but I don't want to go giving them any ideas!

Right, I'm off to have a brew and start packing. We're moving house on sat and I haven't packed a single box yet!

AlmightyCitrus · 08/02/2011 08:56

We kept our baby names secret too. Most people are OK about when you say you're not telling, but I (stupidly) let on that we had chosen a girls name to a friend and she keeps on and on trying to get the name out of me.

Can't think of a boys name. Nothing seems to "click" for us at all.

It's my 20 week scan today.....If DH finds the car keys....[banging head against wall emoticon]

BarbieLovesKen · 08/02/2011 09:32

I completely agree with the whole not telling people your name thing. I wish I'd copped on to this earlier. Every name I've mentioned (boys names) has been put down or made a really ugly face at. Ill almost feel uncomfortable now if I use some names as close family have already said how horrible they think it is. (sigh) I did ask for opinions though.

And word to the wise, BIL's girlfriend is pregnant too, shes due about 9 days after me. 2 weeks ago we were all in MIL's for Sunday dinner. She asks me if we've any names picked. Stupid, stupid me says "not sure about boys - finding it very hard but are definate on Kate for a girl, thats what ds would have been if he was a girl..". Was thinking I was safe enough as she too is stuck on a girls name since she was pregnant with her ds. Was in PILs yesterday for a minute after work, BIL was there - someone asked him if they had any names picked and he proudly announced "we're definate on XXXX Kate if its a girl, not sure on a boy...

Pah! I know its "just" the middle name but for Gods sake, with the amount of names available in the world, why would you do that?? oh yes and FIL even says it a few times after (the name in full) so its known to all that thats "their name". Oh Im probably being childish and overly tired, am really tired - had a long day of constant meetings in work yesterday, then had a 4 hour lecture in college last night and ds was up 4 times last night - dh apparantly "didnt hear him" Hmm

Yawn...

Huge congratulations on the boy/girl news. I would love to know what this one is, Im sure its a girl, very tempted but know as soon as I find out Ill regret it as I really want the "ITS A ...." announcement...

jasmine51 · 08/02/2011 09:40

Please can someone slap me with a wet fish? Had a horrible horrible dream last night that me n DH were having (bad) sex and I started bleeding. I went to the loo and passed a massive bit of placenta, couldnt feel the LO and was packing frantically to take myself to hosp as DH was more concerned about taking one of our friends to view a new house. Woke up very upset and still am. DH helpfully says 'it was just a dream' to which I was about to reply that the bad sex bit was real enough!
Anyway I've just been trying to wake my bump for reassurance and got a boot in the solar plexus for my troubles.

Off now for a blowout at Primark...time to go up a size!

Have a good day x

Oh by the way - its hard to believe, but in a weeks time I will be at the same stage as a friend of mine who had premature twins at 24 wks. Brings home just how early they were! Dont worry Clarkiee they are very lively normal 4 year olds now

KaraStarbuckThrace · 08/02/2011 10:13

Barbie - that is why I don't want to talk names to people in RL and I have a couple of MNer friends which is why I don't mention them on here as well. Because people are less likely to be judgy about the name you picked after you have had the baby!
Jasmine Sad for bad dream. I had one too, dreamt I gone into labour the hospital had been privatised and it was full of all these horrible technicians.

HalleLouja · 08/02/2011 10:18

Passes jasmine and barbie each a wet fish. Jasmine you can have a small one as you don't want to injure yourself too much. But barbie needs a tuna to whack your in laws. That is awful. I love the name Kate too. I know 2 sisters and their DS's have the same name even though they are only 4 months apart.

CMH1stbaby · 08/02/2011 11:47

I also made mistake of telling PiLs favourite names, and was told "they're terrible, you can't call the baby that" which has understandably put us off! am trying not to spill our new names because I figure they'll have to lump it once the baby's born..

finding it very difficult to concentrate at work today after our scan yesterday - for some reason this scan has made it loads more real / exciting / terrifying than the others (I had a dating scan and another at 12 weeks), maybe because we found out its a boy and the pictures look like a real person rather than a smudge?!

Hi Supersunny pregnancy yoga is great - I did it from about 15-16 weeks when pg with ds and it really helped relax me,and took a lot of the pressure off me physically when I got a lot further along. Would heartily recommend it.

Got my exercise ball in the post this morning - can't wait to get it pumped up tonight!

LisasCat · 08/02/2011 13:21

Who needs karaoke? Suzanne Vega is the best for singing really, really loudly in the car, with windows wound down, preferably stopped at lights. I've never met a person alive who could find anything to dislike about her Best of album. In fact, dammit, it's going in my birth bag for labour!!! (I have no idea what effect that will have on a newborn baby)

CMH1stbaby · 08/02/2011 13:39

Agree with 8rubberduckies - supersunny I've done three sessions of pregnancy yoga and loved it so far! Was skeptical but has actually helped me to sleep a lot better and got rid of some niggly aches and pains so would thoroughly recommend.. although am glad noone is watching because some of the poses are much less than flattering Grin

jasmine51 · 08/02/2011 14:42

Thanks for the wet fish - have given myself a good whacking and made bump kick frantically so I'm back to reality now. Primark is also alot lower on stock of bump friendly tops now.

Yay I'm all buggied up! Have read the instructions from cover to cover, played with all the buttons and straps..practised removing all the wheels and done about everything possible to it apart from climbing into it myself...which is tempting because it does look very cosy. Thanks to the guy at Babyworld for doing such a fabbo deal for me.

Goddaughter has confirmed parvovirus..have asked her to stay away for a while and stick to skyping.

Good to hear alot of you are doing the yoga classes - I've got mine tonight, looking forward to the lying down relaxing bits

x

CitizenOscar · 08/02/2011 14:48

Another vote for pregnancy yoga here. I do yoga anyway but I've found the specialist classes really focus on the areas that get cramped or achy in pregnancy. And movements that might help during labour etc. Also nice to see other women at various stages of pregnancy, and take a moment of peace & calm out of a busy day.

We also aren't telling anyone our potential names - not that we've decided on any yet anyway. We'll probably tell people whether it's a boy/girl (assuming we can find out on Friday when we have the scan impatient) so at least the name will be a surprise. Just couldn't bear people giving opinions and it gives us room to change our minds as well!

CitizenOscar · 08/02/2011 14:50

Sorry - that was just meant to emphasise my impatience - I don't think there's anyone with that username! Sorry for confusion Confused

Jer79 · 08/02/2011 16:55

Anyone else finding the skin on the back of their hands has suddenly become all old-ladyish? Crinkly and absurdly dry? Moisturising like crazy and hoping it's pregnancy not age!

if you want to share your chosen names........remember they are yours and it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks, and that includes grandparents. Be proud of them and dont let others change your mind......

Sarahmumtobe · 08/02/2011 18:14

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is well, and glad to see good scan news continues to flow in, and welcome to all newcomers. I have finally logged on on my computer so can use some of the smiley faces! Smile

Has everyone been watching one born every minute? Thought the lady with the heart problem was amazing, but the other lady requesting an epidural at 3cm made me a little worried - I'm meant to be having him at a midwife led unit so epidural not an option unless get transported by ambulance to Bath. She did make some funny faces though!

Have been quite amused about the lady garden discussions. Mine too has disappeared from sight Blush.

moomin how exciting that you are seeing baby moving form the outside too! I am feeling movement, but sporadically, - I sat and just watched my belly for ages last night but nothing! Glad work meeting was ok. Roll on maternity leave!

Hope all house moving/purchasing/selling is going well for people. I know how stressful this can be so really hope all is proceeding smoothly.

I'm having an incredibly unhealthy week so far - pizza last night, fish and chips for lunch and bangers and mash for dinner - oh dear!

Well, off to cook the bangers, really fancy some Wine, but only got non-alcoholic lager so that'll have to do.

Have a lovely evening
