kara thats a fab idea..far more likely to happen in our house than expensive toys. Do you think I could add some builders rubble, gripper rods and plasterboard?....no?

I've changed my mind on DH being a drama queen...more of a miserable old git...yeah thats a better description.

Sorry to hear some of you are feeling rough - tomorrow is Friday and doughballs with nutella are in the world...life is good!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 03/03/2011 18:30

I've had a soft toy robot book marked on the Mamas and Papas website since oh I think the chemical pregnancy the month before this one stuck. Blush Haven't bought one yet only because I love the girl and boy versions and don't know what I'm having. Other than buying that as soon as LO is born we have a few rattly colourful toys left from DS and that's about it for early toys for us. We couldn't afford a baby gym thing so I used to tie a couple of the toys to the bottom of a chair and put DS under that and it worked a treat Grin

I'm now busy looking at the Crave website wishful thinking window shopping Grin. Your wedding plan sounds good MN2

Am feeling your moving pain moomin and prawn and I'm only trying to move across town rather than across the country! I hate the idea of moving to a different suburb when we're so settled in this area. I almost think a new town would be easier to cope with. Fingers crossed it doesn't turn out as scarey for you as it seems now.

AlmightyCitrus · 03/03/2011 18:38

Ooh, I've just ordered a pram! Graco travel system, £99 in argos, reduced from £149. Bargain!

Nurse I remember my eldest sat for days playing with a big A4 envelope. Nothing else got a look in!

Lovely dress Mummy

moomin156 · 03/03/2011 18:44

KaraThrace - just thought I'd mention that you might want to also try topcashback as they give %5 for shopping through Mothercare. You're not supposed to rely on it working but in the last two years I've gotten back over £300 on shopping I would do anyway online and the only ones that haven't panned out are the Hilton Hotel cashbach - Ebay works a treat for those intested.

All my best!www.topcashback.co.uk/search/merchants/?s=mothercare

Calgary · 04/03/2011 09:38

Should mention that I'm a lurker as I get so busy with work and subscribe to a few FF threads that I can't keep up with everyone but am enjoying getting to know a few of you through this. Also, some great tips so thanks.

I'm due to have twin boys June 27th (though MW says they'll induce by June 13th if they don't come before).

KaraStarbuckThrace · 04/03/2011 09:51

Yes I am already with topcashback. Haven't used it much though!

8rubberduckies · 04/03/2011 09:55

Hi Calgary, Clarkiee will be glad that there is someone else around having twins. How exciting! I've always wondered if the cashback sites are worth it, and £300 in a year makes it sound very much worth it!

Calgary · 04/03/2011 10:08

THanks for the Welcome 8RubberDuckies :) Does that mean that you're having twins too? :o

I just started to get into the habit, before buying online, to see if TopCashBack worked for the store and found that it covers a ton of shops/banks/services. It's amazing how a pound here and there quickly adds up (likey because I do a lot of shopping online). I was turned onto it by MoneySaverExpert when they had a £50 promotion to switch current accounts to A&L (before they became Santander) so got £50 from clicking through TopCashBach to the site and then another £100 from A&L for switching my account. Before long it really adds up and it only takes a week or less to get it into my account.

BarbieLovesKen · 04/03/2011 10:11

Hi Super (and thanks Smile), sorry you are feeling rotton - hip pain sounds really awful (something I've been lucky enough to not experience!! hope your ok.

Yeah, Dr prescribed augmentim duo - this is ds's first time on any medication so I was concerned about giving them but he has to have them. He is eating and smiling and sleeping through the whole thing, hes such a darling little boy but he looks terrible and I know he must feel rotten, he had his first dose yesterday evening and one this morning so Im hoping the effects will start to kick in soon.

DD is on augmentim too (feast or a famine!) but shes doing great. Think its been the crap winter and dd starting school (where she picks up everything) combo - they both have colds on and off since before Christmas. Anyway, went to pharmacy on my lunch break yesterday and stocked up on kiddie pharmaton etc so hopefully will build her up a little (ds is too little).

BarbieLovesKen · 04/03/2011 10:32

also meant to add, its great my mum's home. Would usually be so, so stressed if kids were sick and I couldnt get time off work but its so much easier now - DS spent morning in bed with his granny yesterday, apparantly kissing and holding hands and being spoilt rotten. He wont let her out of his sight since she came home. I dont know myself now!!! very lucky.

8rubberduckies · 04/03/2011 11:05

Calgary, I've only got one bun in the oven luckily sadly Grin.

Barbie glad to hear you're loving having your Mum back, and hopefully the antibiotics will do their thing really quickly. Hoe long is your Mum back for?

crumbletastic · 04/03/2011 11:34

Welcome calgary whereabouts in the country are you.

I'm feeling rotton today ladies, I have a rotten bout of diarrhoea, and tummy pain. I also rang up work to have the day off and line mangagert gave me grief and made me feel guilty about covering my shift as we are 3 staff down as they got suspended. Silly pregnancy hormones, I cried for a few mins after getting of the phone although I really shouldn't have been bothered about what she said. I'm hoping to speak to my boss this week about taking 4 weeks holiday before my maternity leave is due to start as really don't think I casn cope that long at work but don't know how he'll take it

BarbieLovesKen · 04/03/2011 12:01

Back for good 8!!! Grin and shes going to be my CM Grin. She lives right beside us - I asked her would she go again (as she went for 6 months in 09 and 4 months this time round) but she said no way, she couldnt bear to be away from me/kids for such a long time again. She'll go as a holiday for a few weeks alright but thats it. Know that probably sounds a bit weird but Im an only child and my mum and dad split up when I was just a couple of months old, so its always been just the two of us and we're oddly close because of it.

Oh crumble, you poor thing, its horrible enough being sick without the added stress of your boss being an asshole difficult. Dont worry how he'll take it - take it - you'll be gone for months and by the time your back he wont be put out anymore Grin

takethatlady · 04/03/2011 12:36

Wow you ladies have been busy. moomin and prawn I can't believe how many of us are moving. I didn't book NCT classes partly because they're expensive but partly also because a major benefit is meeting new people, and as we're hoping to move to a new area asap there seemed no point getting to know lots of other new parents and then just sodding off to Norwich. Very afraid about not knowing anybody except for a couple of people at work who are also having babies and being isolated, but it's that or driving 500 miles a week with a baby in the car!

DH is slightly getting on my nerves about it all as three excellent jobs have now come up near(ish) to Norwich and he's resisting applying for any of them (he is bad at change). They tick all the boxes he wants - outstanding Ofsteds, excellent exam results, head of department, and 11-18 (so the schools have sixth forms) but they're all 45 minute train rides away. Which they will be, since there are few schools in Norwich that tick all those boxes. He says he doesn't want to start a new job and be working manically planning all new lessons if he doesn't have to, especially with a commute. But as it is when we move he's going to be driving 1hr 15 minutes each day to his current job and there's no way he can get there by train. I'm sure 45 mins on a train to a new job is much better 75 minutes in the car, especially for schools which are in better schools than his own (and jobs which pay more!), but he's digging his heels in. It's his choice, obviously, and it's not really any of my business what he chooses to do career-wise. But either I'm hormonal or (more likely) a control freak, and I'm ranting on here to stop myself kicking his backside nagging him :)

mummy your wedding sounds absolutely perfect :) And your dress is lovely too - I hadn't seen that website before, but I've just bankrupted myself on Asos so I can't buy anything. Love the blue - my mum got married to my stepdad in blue and she looked so stunning I always thought I wouldn't want a white dress for my wedding (ended up with one though Grin). Brunch is a great idea, as is champagne at your house. Hope you find somewhere lovely!

8rubberduckies · 04/03/2011 12:38

Barbie Ah yes, I remember now you chatting about your Mum being your childminder for new baby a couple of months ago, I didn't realise she was so far away at that point though. It doesn't sound weird to me at all you being pleased ot have your Mum around, my Mum and I are very close. I am an only child as well (my Dad has other children form 2nd marriage, but I'm my Mum's only child) and my Mum and Dad split up when I was a toddler, and before that he was not about much as he was in the navy. She lives 10 miles away and we speak on the phone most days and see eachother at least once a week, it does my DP's head in! Grin

Sorry to hear you're feeling unwell Crumble. It makes me really Angry hearing about all the shitty managers out there, most of them managing women on this thread! Do they not know about employment law regarding maternity? Try and take the four weeks, as long as they have enough notice then it should not be an issue really. If it is, dare I say it, [whispers] get signed off sick by your GP for the four weeks. I was a martyr to work at the end of my last pregnancy and soldiered on for far longer than I should have, and ended up extremely stressed. It took me the 6 weeks before ds was born after going on maternity leave just to get on an even keel again. Now that my worries about redundancy are on hold until next year I have got a completely different attitude (and boss) this time, and am putting number one (and bump) first from now on. Luckily my new boss agrees with me Smile.

8rubberduckies · 04/03/2011 12:42

Sorry X-posted TTL - your dp sounds a lot like mine! No advice really, apart from give him a good old kick up the backside if you think that's what he needs! If there's one time we can get away with it it's when we're pregnant; as we can blame any ranty outbursts telling of home truths on the hormones!
