A sad day...I'm in mourning for the loss of an unobstructed view of my...err...lady garden. Realised this morning in the shower that bump is now in the way. See you in a few months lady bits!

takethatlady · 05/02/2011 18:42

jer79, I'm 19+6 and so every Sunday I start a new week (tomorrow I'll technically be 20 weeks, and that's what I'll say). But I do cheat - once it gets to about Thursday I start rounding up :)

mainlymaynie we are scan buddies and due date buddies!

takethatlady · 05/02/2011 18:42

Oh no jasmine don't tell me that! I'm still (with difficulty) er ... tending to mine. It's going to get out of control if I lose the view now!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 05/02/2011 19:35

Jasmine, sadly mine is hidden under fat tummy Grin

Bananarama - so glad I bought that Graco Vivo travel system - it has gon up £25!!

HalleLouja · 05/02/2011 20:40

Am not going to buy a new buggy, I am not going to buy a new buggy. Mmmmm.... Need to keep repeating that. I would like to look at the babystyle oyster but will resist.

Anyone looking at slings though. Thinking of getting a Close one. They look lovely and I didn't get on with the Baby Bjorn. Also need a buggy board. So some shopping to do.

Clarkiee · 05/02/2011 23:03

Oh dear lady garden view gone for jasmine well there are worse things you could miss out on viewing. Had to keep on top of mine the consultant isn't as gentle when he sticks the paper towel stuff in my pants before scanning!

Two of my friends posting on facebook and one of them said 'wish we were going out' and other one said 'I know we need a girly night, not dressed up in ages anyone would think that I'm the pregnant one'.
Bloody cheek!!! Angry I wrote 'Oi, the pregnant one has still been going out.'

On a hen night next week- the brides sister has booked a fireman waiter and a tour around town in a fire engine for an hour before we get to the restaurant! Sounds like it could be a laugh Grin.

Looking at the mainly dull Next maternity section with DH. He pointed out some grey trackie bottom type trousers because they looked comfy Confused I said 'why would I buy those' and he was like 'but your pregnant' and I said 'but I wouldn't wear them if I wasn't pregnant so why would I want to wear them now?' He didn't seem to get the concept that you still want to look attractive even when you are pregnant!!

jasmine51 · 06/02/2011 08:52

In floods of tears about Amanda Holdens baby. You just begin to relax thinking 'the chances of anything going wrong now are tiny' then something like that happens. Absolutely devastated for them and giving bump an extra stroke today

jbells · 06/02/2011 08:59

jasmine- ive just read about it, its so sad and shocking when something like this happens especially so late in the pg :( cant imagine wot her and her family must be going thru

Off to view maternity unit number 2 out of 3 today. I have a bee in my bonnet about my current hospital choice & not only has it ruined the 1st half of my pregnancy with the stress of knowing that's where I'm going but it's caused endless "discussions" with dh that always result in me sobbing :(

I switched my original choice of hospital from PAH, Harlow (where I felt comfortable), to qe2 - Hertfordshire because my dh is a snob & "didn't want his child bring born in Essex"! (Sorry!! I know). I regret the day I swapped because it's done nothing but cause me anxiety!

So. We are looking at the 3 closest hospitals & will make a decision after viewing all 3 maternity units.
(dh is regretting ever mentioning the Essex thing btw but it's too late now)

Jasmine I saw the sad news just now. It really hits home doesn't it.
I seem to have had a fair few clients recently tell me about people they know who have lost their babes late into their pregnancy. Seriously. I know this happens but I really want to ask why they feel the need to share this info with me!!

merlion that's really interesting to hear about the birth rates being effected by which year. Something I hadn't thought about.

Awful news, and very frightening. Is it known why these things happen or is it just an unexplained phenomenon?

moufflon oh dear to hubbie's faux pas - hope your sort it all out and can relax.

supersunny I think I was at about 20 wks when it all suddenly became super-visible. Enjoy!

Today's good news: the buggy partner had bid on on ebay went to someone else. Why is that good news? Well, he'd done all the research and decided which one 'we' wanted, bid on a good 2nd hand one, but had he measured the car boot to see if it would fit in? No! (and it wouldn't, not without the back seat down anyway...) Now I appreciate him being keen, but why is it that men get so impatient??!!

24 weeks today. Happy Sundays everyone! x

bananarama05 · 06/02/2011 09:51

Just seen Amanda Holdens news via facebook, think I may avoid the papers today, not sure I want to know more details. Bless her heart.

My only news of the last 24 hours seems to be I have now mis-placed my ankles. Anyone else? My legs carry on right to my feet. Just another glamorous side effect to add to the list eh? :)

Kara glad you got your bargain and I could be of some use. I'm trying to send DP to Kiddicare with his mum (Who's kindly offered to pay) before the sale ends to get our Silver Cross.

Jer I do the same as mainly - today I'm 23 weeks and a day which I class as 23 weeks. I do however sneakily round up like TTL...I may have procaimed to being "almost 6 months" over the last couple of weeks!

Jasmine the lady garden is long gone for me too I'm afraid. A friend suggested asking DP to "help" with it! Think I'll make the most of having the cash to be able to afford to go to a salon while I can instead, thanks!

DaisyFields · 06/02/2011 11:06

Went to Kiddicare yesterday, was seconds away from finding a corner to sit and rock in when my mum dragged me out of there! I think I must have been having a sensitive day, but it was really overwhelming - baby stuff as far as you can see (and on 3!!! levels) punctuated by screaming babies and tantrumming toddlers. I don't think I blinked the whole time I was in there. God, I have a LOT to learn!

takethatlady · 06/02/2011 11:21

Ha daisyfields we just stuck to the pram floor mainly - I reckon you've got to go there with one item in mind, otherwise it is pretty overwhelming!

We decided on the Silver Cross 3D while we were there but I've since changed my mind and decided to go for the Bugaboo Bee Plus because it's so tiny, will take up half the space in our boot and house, and is so easy to push about and get around. As we've got a tiny car and a tiny house size is a big issue! Plus it's £70 cheaper on Pramworld than it is on the Mothercare website and they give you a £10 voucher if you find it cheaper elsewhere. And i have a £50 Mothercare voucher, so I'm hoping that will bring the costs down.

I am so sad about Amanda Holden - I can't believe it. I didn't know until I logged on here. Sad I hope she at least gets some answers about what happened Sad Sad Sad

takethatlady · 06/02/2011 11:21

Mothercare also price match, I should have said (just in case anyone else is thinking of the Bugaboo Bee Plus).

MainlyMaynie · 06/02/2011 11:33

It's so so sad about Amanda Holden, losing a baby at that stage must be devastating. Feel sick thinking about it.

TTL, cool scan and due date buddies! What time's your scan tomorrow? Mine's at one, I'm hoping it's the first of the afternoon session as otherwise they will be running hours behind by that time!

We're thinking of the Bugaboo Bee too, I am tempted by the fact you can get snow wheels for it!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 06/02/2011 11:34

I'm so confused about pushchairs! We wouldn't be getting a new one, but the brakes are going on our current one. And with no car we really need a good sturdy pushchair.
I like the look of the petit star kurvi 4, but it's not in stock at mothercare (only online for now) yet so I can't even go and look at it.
All we know is we don't want a 3 wheeler or inflatable (puncturable) tyres. And it'll need to be able to take a toddler board. And have a good sized shopping basket underneath. And not cost the earth. That's not asking much is it?

I did wirte a big post earlier, but MN lost it, so I'm not ignoring anyone, i just can't remember what I wrote.

I really really want banana pancakes with streaky bacon and maple syrup. It's times like these it's good the supermarket is to far away to walk to just for an impulse buy.

NoToast · 06/02/2011 11:35

Hello all,

is there room for a newbie?

Have lurked a little but been reluctant to do anything baby related before the 20 week scan. I was diagnosed as a diabetic the day before I found out I was pregnant and then had a threatened miscarriage and have been worried about jinxing! Looks like the baby (our first) is fine though.

Am moving to the Cotswolds (eek!) in a few weeks and no idea what the local maternity units are like, would love to hear any comments good or bad...

takethatlady · 06/02/2011 11:41

Woah notoast sounds like you've had a hectic time. Welcome to the thread :)

nomore at the risk of turning into some sort of Bugaboo saleswoman the Bee does have a buggy board, it has a nice big shopping basket, and it has foam-filled tyres (and snow tyres, apparently! Didn't know that maynie). But it is bleedin' expensive, especially when you add in the cocoon. I'm hoping that grandparents and aunties and uncles will suddenly get the urge to buy the accessories. Cheeky, I know Blush

mainlymaynie yay for tomorrow. I am so excited. Mine's at 9.15, but I wish it was later because DH will have to go back to work afterwards and if it was a bit later there'd be no point. Still, at least I can just wake up and go straight there :)

HalleLouja · 06/02/2011 11:49

Felt so sad for Amanda Holden. Took me a while to stop shaking when I read the news.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 06/02/2011 14:17

I know so sad for Amanda and her DH Sad

WARNING This is very sad

On the day the DS was born, on our way to the PN ward, we saw a couple approaching us, the DP was pushing the mum in a w/c and I smiled at her, thinking she was just another mum on her way into the labour ward, her DP complimented us on DS and I said "won;t be long til you hold your lo".
Oh GOD to this day I wish that our MW had time to warn us but she was walking behind us. I wish to God someone had stopped those words - the DP just smiled sadly at me and said their baby was stillborn SadSad, his poor wife was just in shock. I hugged them both, and told them how desperately sorry I was.
I broke down once they were out of earshot. I hope that they have now been blessed with their own child.
That still haunts me so badly. Luckily stillbirths are quite rare but it is a worry for all of us. SO it is understandable that Amanda Holden's loss is going to strike a chord with all of us.

On a happy note

My friend has passed on some baby clothes and I have just bought 2 cute, pink and girly babygros Grin

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 06/02/2011 14:45

Sorry TTL I'm not sold on the bugaboo bee. It's well out of our budget, esp as every little thing is an extra cost. We have to have a foot muff thing and rain cover as we're out in all weathers. And now it's back to the drawing board as it now looks like the kurvi 4 is being taken off the market. Not on mothercare at all now and only 1 colour left at Boots. Poo

(PS, yes I'm sad for AH, I just don't want to dwell on it). Ah Kara that must have been really hard for you to deal with so soon after giving birth yourself.

I'm so grumpy today. For no good reason, it's very annoying.

jasmine51 · 06/02/2011 15:38

Notoast
Hello, welcome!
Where in the Cotswolds are you moving to? Are you more on the Oxon side or the Gloucs side? There are plenty of us here in Oxon who will be at the JR.

re buggies...yay finally agreed a fabbo deal with Babyworld for our Baby Jogger City Elite. I was trying to get them to price match Lulaboobaby which they have and thrown in a raincover too. Just got to nick the DHs credit card and I'll be down there later in the week.

Got the bubs room painted today. Carpet going in tomorrow then the fun starts with filling it with goodies (and hiding them in the cupboards so DH cant see them)

I know noone wants to dwell on Amanda Holdens horrible news but I'm just curious - Lilly Allen lost hers due to a virus and Amanda also seems to have lost hers due to a virus...what kind of virus is that dangerous?
