Morning, will catch up later (hopefully) just jumping in with the christening talk!

MIL was sooooooo desperate for us to have one for our 2, kept mentioning all the time. Comedy thing is she isn't religious and my parents, who really are, have never mentioned it! Needless to say we haven't done it. I have a bit of a thing about doing things which are religious because of tradition rather then meaning (if that makes sense Confused). Of the godparents we would have chosen none of them are religious so would have been making them stand up in a church in front of everyone and lie!

It's now 6 years since dd and 4 years since ds was born however since we announced this pregnancy she has already mentioned it again! I've told her in no uncertain terms it won't be happening!

Anyhoo, have lovely weekends and I'll try and catch up with everything I've missed later . . . . .maybe after I've finished that assignment (yep, still not managed it Blush!).

Mummynumber2 · 26/02/2011 08:29

Thanks everyone, good quality sprung matress it is then!

That's funny about your MIL knackered. Do you think she just wants a party to show off her new GC?

On the subject of party's we've decided to get married! Actually, I'm really not that concerned about whether we do it not but dp is very keen to and the dsc's are very much into the idea. Dp really wants to do it before I have the baby's born!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 26/02/2011 08:36

Morning all. Am trying to decide what to do today. Either stay local and go for a swim, or go a little out of town and do something slightly touristy but involving some pain inducing walking followed by push chair shopping.

BarbieLovesKen · 26/02/2011 09:25

Oh my God Mummynumber2 wow how exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Huge big massive congratulations!!!!

Clarkiee · 26/02/2011 09:33

Congratulations Mummynumber2 do you think you'll do it before DC is born? You better get off MN and start planning Grin

Here is a code if you want 10% off at mamas and papas this weekend ladies CRM48FEB11

AlmightyCitrus · 26/02/2011 11:43

Congratulations Mummynumber2 I think that wondering what dress to buy is much more fun than comparing cot matresses! Grin

DH's family, who never set foot in a church ever were constantly banging on about christenings. They couldn't be arsed coming to see the kids at our house, so why going to a church was important was beyond me...oh wait, maybe they were more interested in the party afterwards.

My mum, who goes to church every week never bothered. I said they could make their own decisions when they were older. As it happens the two oldest (girls) have got themselves involved with the church Confused and were both christened last year. No need for godparents, and as DH's parents are gladly deceased no need for a party after!
Can't see the attraction myself but they seem to enjoy it, and with any luck it will see DD1 into a good high school rather than the crappy ones this town has to offer (fingers crossed for tuesday)

Merlion · 26/02/2011 11:48

Mummynumber2 congratulations - don't get off MN stay a while and we can help you plan - I love weddings!

GV my labour with DS was quite short so you have me worried now!

DS's godparents are my SIL & BIL (DH's sister and husband) and my brother and his wife so we did keep it all to family members. I don't know whether we'll choose differently for this one as not sure when she'll be christened. We went back to the UK for DS's christening when he was about 8MO. I don't think I can face doing it when I go back in September. DS's ended up being a big event as we used it as an excuse to get lots of friends together as we don't go back home (to England) very often.

sasamaxx · 26/02/2011 13:34

Congratulations mummynumber2 - what fantastic news Grin

NurseSunshine · 26/02/2011 14:29

Wow congratulations mummynumber2!!! Thats wonderful news Grin have a non-alcoholic Wine on me :)

RE christening and godparents. My friends who aren't religious had something called a Humanist naming ceremony where a man came and lead the ceremony and they made promises to their son and people read poems and they had the non-religious equivalent of godparents, close friend who would support them and their son. I thought it was nice though I doubt I'l bother! Might just have a party after she's born or something.

Is anyone having/has had a baby shower? And what do you actually do at one?!

NurseSunshine · 26/02/2011 14:32

EEEEEK A WEDDING!!! You'll have to show us pics of the dress mn2. How exciting!! Will it be a big one or more small-and-intimate? Are the DSCs going to be involved?

NurseSunshine · 26/02/2011 14:34

Have found you the perfect dress Grin

jasmine51 · 26/02/2011 16:04

mummy yay, congrats on your wedding. I've just been watching Big Fat Greek Wedding which brought back memories of ours...except it was nothing like that...apart from being in Greece. Can we help? If you ever watched Monica on Friends...my wedding book had echoes of that..mood boards, samples, timetables...love it!

Rubbish day today, cant stay upright for more than a few minutes, no energy whatsoever. Am supposed to be going to birthday party tonight..woop woop another alcoholic frenzy I can watch. Oh and the birthday girl doesnt actually know I'm pg because I forgot to tell her...this could be interesting.

Mummynumber2 · 26/02/2011 17:15

Thanks for the congratulations everyone. I think you're all more excited about it than me! Grin It's not that I don't want to marry DP, just that he really wants to do it before the baby's born and to be honest I'm just not sure I can cope with organising a wedding now. And I'm really not going to enjoy the day because
a) I will be the only one not drinking
b) I still have MS so may end up throwing up on my dress
c) I don't really like ANY food at the moment and find it hard to eat anything that isn't toast, salad or yogurt
d) I'm not going to be able to find anything to wear that doesn't make me look like a merengue or the michelin man. (love that dress though Nurse Grin)

I could go on but I think you get the picture!
I would be very happy making it a very quiet affair but the DSC's are over the moon about the whole thing and want bridesmaids dresses and suits. Anyway, we have an appointment at the nearest register office on Monday to have a look and book a date. I think we'll make it as small as possible, just inviting very colse family, have a simple ceremony and then take everyone to a restaurant (where I can hide in the corner and watch everybody eat and drink) Then we'll have a bigger party, which I'll be able to enjoy, after I've had the baby. Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 26/02/2011 17:35

Awww it will be lovely, and great that the DSCs are so enthusiastic about it too :)

knackered76 · 26/02/2011 18:17

Mummyno2 Congratulations Grin. Loving the dress Nurse found you . . . . . the pink one I assume Grin! Have you talked to him about doing it after the baby when you might be able to enjoy the wedding a bit more? If not a party after the event is always good as well :)

Went to the physio yesterday for my back and came back feeling worse and can hardly move today! Oh well, at least I get to practice my pregnancy waddle!

Enjoy your evenings :)

Clarkiee · 26/02/2011 18:40

I second your 'no energy' comment. I feel like a zombie- its not even the third trimester yet! Just had my tea and all I want to do is lie down and sleep but I can't because the evil heartburn will get me.

Take it easy knackered x

Clarkiee · 26/02/2011 18:41

Oh seconding jasmines no energy comment btw

sasamaxx · 26/02/2011 19:39

Snap - on the no energy front Sad

Mummynumber2 · 26/02/2011 20:42

Of course I'll be going for the pink one knackered. Grin Actually I am quite concerned that DSC's will want to wear something like that Grin DP is insistant we do it straight away. I can't really understand wht he's decided that he needs to be married to the mother of his children (well, on of them anyway!) now. It's not like this pregnancy came as a surprise, it was about a planned as it's possible to be!

Hope you're managing to rest this evening knackered and your back's a bit better. Have a good evening Jasmine if you can, hope you're feeling better too.

AlmightyCitrus · 27/02/2011 01:29

Free bepanthen sample if anyone is intersted.
clicky

KaraStarbuckThrace · 27/02/2011 08:19

Mummy - aww I think it is sweet he wants to :)

You can find some beautiful maternity dresses,I am sure you will look fab!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 27/02/2011 10:44

MN2 soo sorry I did not mean to snub your news yesterday. I read it and thought aww lovely, but some how didn't manage to get it down when I started typing. Men are a bit weird huh?! The small ceremony now, with party post baby sounds like a lovely idea. Keeps DH happy and you too Grin

Well we found a travel system we like yesterday and I am now ignoring the bad reviews about it on Mothercare's web site. ergh! What have I done?

Sorry to hear so many of you were feeling off yesterday. I've been feeling okay during the daytime (think it's the sunshine), but have started wakng up in the small hours so will be joining the zombie club in the next couple of days if this keeps up.

NurseSunshine · 27/02/2011 13:41

Small ceremony with a big party later sounds ideal MN2.

I'm with all the others in the no energy camp :( Also getting headaches every day. Feel a bit rubbish actually.

Jer79 · 27/02/2011 14:25

Ok, so is ANYONE feeling the blooming, joyous second semester glow? I too am tired, SPD-ed to the eyeballs and for added sparkle, have a big frizzy head of hair even after fancy conditioner. Where's my glowing skin and boundless energy? All those Boden catalogue models took it I reckon.

Tolalola · 27/02/2011 15:07

Sorry Blush, but I feel great! Actually, I have a cold at the moment, but in general, I've got loads of energy, really shiny hair (for once) and tons of motivation to do things.

But I have been unfairly lucky with both this and my last pg - no problems at all.
