Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mummynumber2 · 25/02/2011 15:03

Hi everyone. Congratulations on your girl Nurse

I'm able to catch up a bit today because I booked the day off to have the DSC's and then the plans were changed (without me knowing!) and they're with their mum. Step mums are always the last to find out these things! It's actually lovely to have a day at home alone though, so I shouldn't complain. Even if I can't actually get to most of the house as it's in the middle of being decorated.

I'm in the working till you drop club. Sad I found out that the person taking over from me won't be able to start till 9th May and they want me to do a couple of weeks handover, which takes me to 2 weeks before my due date! Does anyone know if that will even be possible?!

Jasmine I've been looking at cot matresses as well and this site seems to be the cheapest. I'm not sure what they're like though.

8rubberduckies · 25/02/2011 15:06

PS Jasmine don't quote me on this but I have heard that you don't really need a coil sprung mattress for babies as they are not heavy enough to need them, you can gte a good quality foam /natural fibre one instead, which tend to be cheaper.

Mummynumber2 · 25/02/2011 15:41

I was wondering about that *8rubberduckies. The foam ones are much cheaper and I was thinking about getting one.

Tolalola · 25/02/2011 15:42

Working until the end is not that bad, honestly! I worked until 2 days before my due date last time and it was fine (DS was then 2 weeks late...).

sasamaxx · 25/02/2011 16:01

mummynumber2 I've had loads of mattresses from that company and have been really pleased every time Smile

sasamaxx · 25/02/2011 16:16

savannahrose congratulations Grin

re Godparents, I haven't a clue this time around.
DH is from a family of 4 and both times we have picked one of his siblings and one of mine.
Would like to do things differently this time, but his 1 remaining sibling will probably be expecting to be asked - nightmare!

Nursesunshine so glad to see you back Smile

Barbielovesken hope your DD feels better soon Sad

GV hope the scan puts your mind at rest. My SPD is driving me mad as well - I'm spending most of the afternoon on the armchair in reclined position and grudging getting up every time the kids want food/drink/toileting. Going up the stairs plays havoc with it, especially Sad

Trying to work through other posts - hope everyone is well. 26wks today - it feels like it's dragging now.

takethatlady · 25/02/2011 16:20

tolalola that's what I'm worried about - taking leave before the baby is born and then the baby is late and then I've taken loads of leave up. I have to go back when she's 6 months :( so I want as much as possible after she's born.

But I did just book 3 weeks' holiday (my line manager told me I shouldn't) before my mat leave starts on 20th June. If it gets approved I'll now be off from 27th May. It'll be such a shame I won't be able to mark all those exam scripts Grin

nomorechoc you are making me hungry again :)

On the religion/godparents thing, we're thinking partly of the friends we're thinking of because they're Christian (of the liberally-minded, fair-trade, Anglican sort). We're not at all but I thought it would be nice for DCs to at least have the chance to ask about/learn about religion if they want to. Hadn't really thought about specific roles though. On reflection perhaps we should have the naughty people as godparents because they'll definitely be the most fun Grin.

Good mattress chat - I have no idea what to do!

BarbieLovesKen · 25/02/2011 16:40

Thanks to everyone for kind messages re dd and for the Godparent stories.

Sasamaxx know exactly what you mean about time dragging - was 26 weeks yesterday (or am 27 tomorrow according to hospital) and its really beginning to drag. Funnily enough, I remember at exactly 26 weeks with ds I got extremely fed up and thought pregnancy would never end. Hopefully this will pass.

Worked through lunch and essay/ referincing/ bibliography is completely finished, printed off and ready to submit Grin ten whole days before its due. This has never, ever been done in my house before Grin.

TTL, I have to go back when baby is 6 months too - (or less,if he/she is late?) Sad. Thought I was the only one taking that little on here so its good to know (well not good to hear your the same but, ah, you know what I mean..) Im not alone.

Nurse I adore the name Jasmine. Fabulous!!. Must be lovely to know "what" (??) she is and to name her etc.. shes real now Grin.

I.cannot.stop.eating. What am I going to do?

Myself and DH getting dominos takeaway and dvd tonight (as we literally have not seen eachother all week, only to hand over children to one another in passing - actually that might be why we're getting on so well lately Grin)

Lack of sleep from last night setting in.. very sleepy...

Mummynumber2 · 25/02/2011 17:23

Oh fab sasamaxx I'll definitely go for one from them then. Smile Now I just need to decide which one to get! So sorry you're in pain today. Sad

I'm feeling very jealous of everyone who's enjoying food. I'm eating lots as I'm hungry, (as well as incredibly thirsty) all the time but I'm finding it hard to find anything that I like!

jasmine51 · 25/02/2011 17:25

Thanks for the mattress info. I had done a search on this site for 'mattress' and read some really bad comments about foam mattresses so had ruled them out. Not sure really - will check that site out, thanks mummy

re the work issue - I'm planning to work to the end of May and go back after 6 mths...but I should add that I do have a pretty easy going life setting my own pace with clients and spending alot of time chatting on MN/feeding ducks writing up notes and working from home. So I dont think I'm a typical example! I really admire anyone who is getting through all this and working normal working hours and commuting..you are absolute heroes and i dont envy you at all.

Barbie oooo, pizza...theres an idea...but if you get a dvd you wont see Benidorm!

Clarkiee · 25/02/2011 17:46

Oh God, God parents!! Spent a bit of time thinking about that myself too ttl. I am one of four (three brothers) and DH is one of six (four brothers and a sister)!! DH's bro has two girls- DH and SIL are god parents to one of them and myself and BIL are god parents to the other. DH's youngest brothers (coincidently identical twins) are not god parents and have said on more than one occasion in the past 'When are you having kids so we can be god parents' Hmm bit presumptuous me thinks!! I have three brothers too and DH and I also happen to be god parent to one of my brothers children too. I am closest to my youngest brother but don't think he's be that bothered if he was chosen or not.

Would it be easier to go with friends!?! But thats a minefield too-
Who do you go for?
Should you have their other half as the matching god parent?
How many god parents do you have?

DH's god parents are an aunty and uncle so he would probably like to keep it in the family. I was christened but I didn't have god parents (because apparently my mums said her god parents were pretty pointless so she didn't think there was much point selecting them for me and my brothers)- think my mum had the right idea!!!!

Clarkiee · 25/02/2011 17:52

Welcome back nursesunshine good to hear you are well.

Wow jasmine end of May, when is your EDD? At least it sounds like you have a job that shouldn't be too stressful. I finish at 33 weeks (but officially 35 weeks cause of when Easter falls). Consultant thinks they will book me in at 36 weeks. Would like longer off before but if I can make it to 33 then I'll get paid for the two extra weeks but if I finish at say 32 weeks I'll get paid till then- really want to hang on. Least my mat cover will be working with me for next 7 weeks so fingers crossed I can take a back step.

Dominoes barbie yum! Thinking curry myself. Hope you start enjoying food soon mummy2

Clarkiee · 25/02/2011 17:53

Oh and had another scan yesterday and everything is still going fine- no evidence of Twin Twin Transfusion Grin

Thats my last message for now- promise (don't want to be talking to myself)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 25/02/2011 17:54

Barbie - is your DD better now?
Regarding GPs, we chose ours when we decided to have DS baptised, so when he was a few months old.

Welcome Savannahrose Smile

Clarkiee · 25/02/2011 18:01

Oh yeah kara not gonna think about it now until DD's are a few months old (suppose we can see who is up to the job by then too lol)

Mummynumber2 · 25/02/2011 18:27

I think I've changed my mind about a foam matress (again!) anyway Jasmine as it's occured to me that as I'm being given a cot bed he'll be in it for a few years, so a sprung one would be better. When do they get too big for a cot bed anyway?

I don't think we're going to do godparents or anything similar but I've always thought it's nicer when they're not a member of the family. That way the baby gets extra special people in their life as aunts and uncles are special anyway.

jasmine51 · 25/02/2011 18:49

clarkiee glad your scan went well. The mat leave issue is bound to just be individual circumstances...you are packing a double load so 33 wks is heroic in my book. My edd is 15/6 so I guess I would be about 37 wks...but as I say, I dictate my workload and speed anyway...and the work might dry up a long time before that...

Over enthusiastic neighbour has just been over...if ever there was a time for a Wine its now...and I dont even drink! A non stop hour of being told about birth horror stories and toddler nightmares.. lovely.

mummy my goddaughter is giving me her cotbed that she is just growing out of...she is 4 in June and about average size.

8rubberduckies · 25/02/2011 18:52

Mummynumber2 I think if I had a cotbed I would get a sprung mattress, as I reckon you need one by the time they are toddlers. My friend's 5 year old is still in her cotbed. We've got an old-fashioned cot, so decided a foam mattress was fine for ds for the time he would be in it.

In sooooooooooooooooooo much pain this evening with my back Sad. The SPD is really starting to kick in Sad.

moomin156 · 25/02/2011 19:07

Hi All.....been quiet today as DH had theday off, we went out for lunch and a spot of shopping. Now he is cooking tea and i am looking forward to my one glass of wine of the week. Off to Leeds tomorrow to visit MIL so will catch up on the news late on Sunday.
Have a good weekend everyone

OP posts:
sasamaxx · 25/02/2011 19:08

mummynumber2 - DS was in his toddler bed (same size as cotbed but not also a cot Wink) until he was about to turn 5.
I'll be getting a sprung mattress for the actual cot again because I had a foam one 1st time round for DS as a baby, and it developed a big head shaped imprint which made me feel quite uncomfortable. For DD we got a sprung one (from babymattressesonline) and no such problem. I got foam ones for the pram, bedside cot and moses basket though and they seemed to be fine - probably as they are used for a far shorter length of time than the actual cot is Smile

GoodVibrations · 25/02/2011 20:31

sasamaxx and 8RD sorry to hear you are suffering with SPD aswell. I'm ok if I do absolutely nothing, but DH has a chest infection so I had to look after DD on my own yesterday. Today I am completely immobile and very very sore. Hope you both manage to get some rest this weekend.

My friend just had her baby girl (no.2). She was delivered at home by her DH!!!!!! Haven't got the details yet but my DH looks rather nervous (my first labour was fast despite being back to back, and they say the 2nd one is quicker......).

I've just had a glass of the nicest wine. Gutted I can't have anymore!!!

Happy Friday everyone Grin

Clarkiee · 25/02/2011 20:39

Didn't realise that there were different matresses- will have to look into it as bro is giving us a cot so need to buy the same one from mothercare and two matresses.

All this talk of wine Wine is making me really fancy a glass!!!! Bought some mini bottles from the supermarket- hmm might crack open one (and drink half Wink)

8rubberduckies · 25/02/2011 20:51

Happy Friday GV!!!

I've only been twice but I can't recommend seeing a chiropractor enough, feel like hopping and skipping out of her office after treatment, and although I feel pretty much back to normal within a couple of hours, she tells me, as do other people, that the effects will last longer the more treatments I have. She's also given me some exercises to do which seem to be helping. One really easy one but really important one is to squeeze a pillow between your knees and hold it for 5 seconds before releasing. This strengthens the inner thigh muscles which help support the pelvis and hold the pubic bone together.

I'm really struggling to look after my ds already so I'm hoping all the money I'm paying will start to pay off. DS is 2.5, very active and tall and well-built for his age. My dp does not drive Angry so I have to take my ds and pick him up from the childminders every day, which means lifting him in and out of his carseat. As I do flexible hours and can start work later it is also my job to get him ready in the morning. I'm up and down the stairs about ten times before I even leave the house in the morning. I also have a full day with him on Mondays. I would never usually moan about these things but they're really putting strain on me physically.

My God GV what an amazing story about your friend and her DH, fingers crossed our labours are all relatively short but long enough to ensure a midwife is present, eh? Grin.

neenewps · 25/02/2011 21:13

Just quickly as I'm watching embarrassing bodies - there is a bit on it about pregnancy tonight but it's a nice thing not anything nasty :)

We have bought our cot mattress from John Lewis. We got this one

m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/230232738/Product.aspx

Hope that works as I'm on my mobile!

neenewps · 25/02/2011 21:53

Hmmm the photo shoot was the nice thing. I guess the other things weren't too gruesome!!!
