Goodvibrations wow 28weeks already :) Mmmmm moms can say the most insensitive things cant they. I have just tried on a pair of maternity jeans i ordered from Next.....can only get them half way up my thighs LOL . Think they may have to go back and order 2 sizes up. My lovely DH said, dont worry its not forever Bless him, as i was going back into deep depression. Hopefully it was just those jeans

Yeah I read something about that Heston programme. Doesn't suprise me, food I had when I had ds was fucking awful. How they expect anyone to feed their labour recovery and breastfeed a baby on the crap they serve is beyond me. I texted DH the morning after I had DS to say "bring me a mcd's sausage and egg mcmuffin or don't come at all" as I was bloody starving.

jasmine51 · 23/02/2011 13:54

re food - yet another reason to be pleased for the Oxon group of mums who can get into our local MLU -perfectly fine food offerings, obliging kitchen ladies if you want extras, and a patient microwave if families want to bring something in and warm it up....not hard to do is it, why cant all hosps do that...oh I forgot...Health and Safety police!

BarbieLovesKen · 23/02/2011 14:03

Oooh Goodvibrations your almost in the 3rd trimester!! woo hoo!.

Kara glad to hear the headache is easing.

Jasmine you poor thing, you really sound like your having a rubbish day. Hope your ok Sad

Totalola, huge welcome

Keep thinking its Tuesday (as I was out of office at meetings all day Mon, I think) and then keep realising nooo - the weekend is a day less away! yay! love when that happens.

So busy - ate at desk and worked through lunch. Popped in for a break but better get back to it....

moomin156 · 23/02/2011 15:28

Bloody hell...does anyone know where chickens go when they dont want to be found? I'm trying to round up my neighbours chickens early because theres huge black clouds looming and stoopidly I dont want them to get wet...but I've lost one. There are no foxes round here so I can only conclude that the little bugger is hiding somewhere....am about to go back up there for another hunt. Do you think the virtual goat has got it?

LAbaby · 23/02/2011 17:35

Hello again, thanks for all the welcomes, it's really exciting to have found this group.
I'm due 28th June, so right at the end of everyone else. We're in America and will be having the baby here. So far I've been impressed by the medical care, which was one of my huge worries when I realised I was pregnant. it's all covered by my insurance and I see the same doctor every three weeks - she'll deliver the baby at the end of it. I do feel quite indulged though - they scan you a lot here so have been watching the baby grow on the screen.
Randomly I have woken up today with extremely white hands.Has anyone else experienced this? I am guessing it means that the iron tablets I've been taking for my anemia haven't worked, or aren't working well enough? I have a bit of a tan as it's sunny here and the contrast between my tanned arms and pale white/grey hands really stands out.
Also moomin, I had to order all my maternity clothes from england as had no clue where to shop here - by the time they came I was already far too big, and have sent them all back.

moomin156 · 23/02/2011 17:52

Lababy no white hands here.....but then i am very pale all over. Very jealous of a tan........if i go off white i am proud of myself. Grin

Jasmine did you find the chicken???

Tolalola · 23/02/2011 17:53

Oooh hello jasmine! Lovely to have an edd companion. I had an emergency CS last time, so am dithering about whether to go for an elective this time, or to try for natural. Apparently if they do an elective, they'll do it about a week before edd.

I sort of fancy the 15th, though, because my sis is the 11th and my mum the 13th!

jasmine51 · 23/02/2011 18:06

moomin it was pretending to be a tomato plant...in the greenhouse.

Lababy no white hands here - blue/white skin but not white hands. Are they cold or do you normally have any circulation problems?

moomin156 · 23/02/2011 18:22

jasmine a very sensible chicken, it had obviously spotted the cloud

moomin....but not a very good impressionist....

mrswantstobeamum · 23/02/2011 20:11

LAbaby, maternity clothes are in abundance and cheap in the US when compared to the UK. I don't know about LA specifically, but in most parts of the country nearly every department store has a maternity section (in store, not just online). Motherhood Maternity and A Pea in the Pod are reasonable nationwide brands. I also like Gap's maternity clothes for work (these are usually in Gap baby or kids rather than regular Gap). I'll let you know if I think of more!

8rubberduckies · 23/02/2011 20:43

Welcome LAbaby and welcome back Tolalola.

Everyone's very busy today on here nattering; I have been working as hard as I can, but feel like dropping off at my desk by about 3pm Blush. Am desperately trying to work out how I can get on maternity leave as early as possible, by using some holiday and maybe some sick time. went to the chiropractor this morning before work and felt fantastic afterwards, but soon started feeling pooh again after a couple of hours in work Sad.

Anyway enough mememe, hope everyone is well... Moomin it is so lovely to hear you sounding more like your normal self in your posts, the time off must have done the trick. Jasmine I hope you're feeling more positive tonight Smile.

8rubberduckies · 23/02/2011 20:49

PS I was bloody appalled by the hospital food in hospital when having ds. I couldn't actually eat the first couple of meals before I was induced, and sent my partner out for takeaways - not exactly very good preparation for going into labour! I was in hospital for a week after having him, and the best present I had was from my best friend, who rushed me up a full roast chicken dinner in the car. We did have a kitchen, but with only a fridge and kettle in it, and other patients would steal all of your food out of the fridge Angry. Just lived on sandwiches and fruit and snacky stuff in the end.

moomin156 · 23/02/2011 21:16

Thanks 8......have to say i feel so much better not being at work. Already not looking forward to Monday. Lets hope i can stay chilled and unstressed. Its really not worth it. If we do decide for me to finish sooner than the shift rota is done up until the week i would go......it wont seem to far away :)

Hello everyone,

WINGE ALERT
We have had the valuation done on our house (eventually) and we are ready to sell. Only problem is the people who own the house we want to buy have STILL not said yes or no to the offer we put in nearly 3 weeks ago!! Apparently its because they are trying to sort out a price on the next house they want (and the people who own that house are doing the same etc etc). But three weeks for Gods sake- they know I am pregnant with twins that are due in May! Am going to ring the estate agent tomorrow (again) and say they need to sort it asap or we are looking elsewhere (which I really don't want to do because I love that house) because we are in a strong position and we need to move NOW! Angry Angry

moomin156 · 23/02/2011 22:03

Poor you Clarkiee....i know you really want this house but they cant keep messing about. Give them a dead line but also book some other appointments with the estate agents so they know you are 'seriously' relooking as this may spur them into action. If you are in a good position and your offer was a decent one then they will be silly to turn you down in todays climate. They are probably just playing the game. Be calm with the estate agent and start playing the game back

Another Heston watcher here. The food was god-awful when I was stuck in the hospital for 10 days after having DD1.
I'd had D&V for 3 days before I went in, had no breakfast as no-one bothered to tell me that I was supposed to go and make my own. No lunch as they'd wheeled me down to delivery by then. When I got back to the ward they said they had a plate of spag-bol left if I wanted it (I HATE pasta so said no).
When I finally did get fed the next day it was plain, bland and the portions were tiny.

This time, I'm taking butties!

And in non-moany news, DS who is 8 went to my mums for the day. They went shopping and he told my mum that we didn't have any bottles for the baby, so she bought me 3. Bless him, he's such sweetheart. Always thinking of his dear old mum!

I can add them to the very small pile of baby stuff which so-far contains a "totseat" an aptamil bear, and some blankets I've crocheted.

Merlion · 24/02/2011 02:32

Hospital food was pretty good here (although ultimately I'm paying for it directly so it probably should be). I had a choice for breakfast lunch and dinner - western/chinese/halal etc and got a snack and hot drink mid-morning and afternoon tea as well. I was in for 3 nights with DS and on the second night DH and I had a 'celebration meal' which was served at a little table in our room with cake to finish.

My care sounds a bit like yours LA I am seen and scanned once a month by the same doctor and she will be there to deliver the baby too. I think also they are quite interventionist (if that's a word) so C-section rate is very high and there are quite a lot of ELCS or planned inductions.

Clarkiee sorry the house buying is stuck. Good advice from Moomin though.

Almighty - your DS sounds adorable

KaraStarbuckThrace · 24/02/2011 07:58

Clarkie, I agree with moomin, you need to show them that you mean business, you don't want to be hanging on too much longer!!

Almighty - aww bless your DS, so thoughtful Smile

Jasmine - lol at your escapaee chicken, hope she turned up, I bet she found somewhere cozy to hide from the rain Smile

LABaby - interesting to compare experiences. From what I understand there is more medical intervention in the US than here in the UK, the fact that you are being looked after by a doctor (unless you have a particular medical concern that makes you higher risk?) and not a Midwife speaks volumes of this.
You are lucky that the same doctor will be presiding at the birth, that will be great! Here the community MWs who look after you ANly are generally different from the hospital MWs, unlss you are having a home birth. I wish my MW could be at my birth as she is absolutely lovely Sad

I am thinking of watching OBEM, generally avoid Channel 4 documentaries as they seem to show the worst of people (Bringing Up Baby, Extreme Breastfeeding both spring to mind). Have to look it up on C4's equivalent of iplayer Grin

crumbletastic · 24/02/2011 09:06

'WOW, you're only 5 months pregnant? But you're massive!' If I hear this one more time from my customers at work then I will scream. It wouldn't be so bad as I like people noticing me being pregnant rather than just chubby but my doctors are concerened that I've lost nearly 2 stone in 2 months as I have a thyroid condition which goes a bit haywire in pregnancy. And you can't win either way as last pregnancy I was quite small and didn't look pregnant until after 7 months and people looked at me like I was some crazy fantasist when I said I was pregnant.

I'm another one here who is thinking about early maternity leave. I work in a shop so lots of standing around which gives me back ache but i'm trying to hold off as long as possible so I get as much time with the baby afterwards. Think 7 months will be my limit though if I can hang on that long.

neenewps · 24/02/2011 09:24

I have finally got my internet connection at home so haven't been around for a while. I have been going to the library to do a few internet related bits and pieces but as they only give you a limited time there I couldn't get on here although I have read quite a bit of the thread.

The move went well. It was so lovely having people move us. A bit of a luxury and one we can't really afford at the moment but as I would have been nigh on useless, it would have just been the DH moving everything. I think spurred him on to thinking that paying someone else was a REALLY good idea :) plus the though of 4 flights of stairs in our old place wasn't very appealing either!!

We have just got a chair delivered that we ordered but we are still waiting for our sofa. Why do they take so bloody long to be delivered Shock A few of DH work colleagues have said, 'oh yes, they told us 6 weeks and it took nearly 6 months' ... thanks a lot for that! Camp chairs and bean bags were really beginning to take their toll so it was so exciting to take delivery of the chair!!

Good to see that everyone is generally well. A lady doing a survey came round when we first moved in and despite me saying I was really busy and didn't have time for her survery she was so pushy so in the end I answered her bloody questions. On her way out she said to me... ummmm, are you pregnant or just fat?! To say I was shocked is an understatement! Bang went my theory of thinking that I hadn't put on much weight Blush

Had my 22 week MW appointment. Everything was ok there thank goodness. Next one is 28 weeks now. Is everyone else the same?

Have also started aquanatal and yoga. Unfortunately had to do both on Tuesday this week and wow, yesterday I was completely wiped out.

We can finally start looking at the nursery now that we have moved. Can't do too much as we are renting but we can still put up some nice curtains etc.

Hello to all the newbies and the oldies. Still no posts from Nursesunshine I noticed? Hope all is ok with her.

I think that's it from me. It's good to be able to post again :o
