I am nearly old everyone, hitting 35 a week after dd is due - can I join the gang? I feel a lot bloody older.

BarbieLovesKen · 22/02/2011 15:20

Can I ask why some people are so &6&(&&% stupid?? Angry. A lady who works in my building is out sick, she has just walked into the canteen where we were having a break "for a chat". The woman looks like absolute death warmed up - I have never^ seen someone looking so ill, we asked what the hell she was doing in and she said she just had* to drop in her sick certs (ffs why not post them like everyone else?? surely if your too sick to come to work, your too sick), sits down for a cuppa before informing us that she has swine flu and like it was the most natural thing in the world to visit people with. Angry Angry

Also, other stupid woman at same table "barbie, when will you be finishing up?" me: "not until the 19th May, 13 weeks and counting!!!" her: "Oh I met a friend yesterday who I used to work with, she went to full term with her baby last year but the baby died at birth but she has another one now and is really happy". end of. Great story - how is that relevant and what exactly was the point in telling me this??

Idiots.

jasmine51 · 22/02/2011 16:55

Barbie &&&*%$ idiots.

Where did the age conversation come from? I'm 43 ok, this is my firdt dc..wanna make something of it?Grin

moomin156 · 22/02/2011 17:01

jasmine it came from BPrincess discussing OBEM and the older first time mom at 37!!

OP posts:
jasmine51 · 22/02/2011 17:08

Barbie - oh and if she really did have flu she wouldnt be upright and drinking tea let alone capable of going into the office!

Thanks Moomin I'm in a bad mood and getting fed up with being labelled as an 'older mum'..its not my fault it took this long, ok?...I think the goat fumes are getting to me today.

Just eaten a big bowl of moroccan bean stew...cant help thinking this was an explosive mistake just before my yoga class...

Jer79 · 22/02/2011 17:23

Jasmine Don't you think it's cool though that so many of us are at this end of the spectrum and can share the experiences and any sensitivities we might have about it all?

I had a friend in America who at 39 had 'geriatric gravida' on her notes! So it's nice not to be the only one on here who's at this end of the whole business. It's my first too. I read all the stuff about pregnancy stages and all the various things and always have an extra layer of quiet concern because I add my age into the mix. Plus, I would love another so it's going to be a bit of a rush if all this goes well!

NoToast · 22/02/2011 18:49

And I will be 37 when this one gets here.

Jer i think the medical term is elderly primigravida (sp?) here!

Total baby brain today, have so far carefully poured my morning cereal into my mug, tried to make tea with the cold water tap at work and on the bus home tried to use my paper ticket in the swipe card reader. Confused

Im 25 and will be still 25 when this one arrives. Was 20 and 24 when I had dc.

To be having kids at my age seems to be unusual these days (where I am anyway) and people automatically assume things when your a "young" mum (not that Im that young now, but when I say Im 25 and then this is number 3, I do get that shocked look).

People do assume that your kids werent planned/ that your unmarried (not that that matters but we shouldnt make assumptions about anyone)/ that your children dont have the same father Shock/ that you are on social welfare (??!!)/ that the poor grandparents are landed with your children while your out clubbing and so on and on...

You just cant win either way, can you?

mrswantstobeamum · 22/02/2011 19:55

Hi ladies, I've done my best to catch up but only managed a few pages. I've had a manic couple of weeks now as I started my own consultancy and took on a project with my former employer. Now that I've got everything set up, things should start to calm down a bit as it's only the equivalent of three days a week.

I'm also having trouble sleeping lately between not being able to breathe due to congestion and my increasingly sore back. I think I'll try one of those pillows soon, maybe the Dream Genii.

My baby has now figured out how to kick me in the ribs, which has kept him busy most of today whilst I worked. I love feeling him move so much as I know he's okay, but must admit I'm not looking forward to those little feet being jammed into my ribs when he starts to run out of space!

Shock at the rude comments about bump size, age, and unnecessary horror stories about still births and such. What is wrong with people?!?

BarbieLovesKen · 22/02/2011 19:58

Thanks Jasmine and supersunny, I really hope your right. Silly moo. Just really worried me (particulary when I turned down the jab!)

jbells · 22/02/2011 20:01

barbie- im in your 25 age group gang and this is no2 hehe, agree that it does seem unusual to have kids at this age nowadays, in my yoga and aqua natal i reckon i am one of the youngest if not the youngest

now off to read and catch up with the hundreds of pages :)

Clarkiee · 22/02/2011 20:20

moomin Hope you feel a lot better by the time your week is up. Defo seems worth looking into finishing work earlier.

notoast Think you need an early night Wink

The amount of woman having babies over 40 has rapidly increased in the last few years(which figures with age declarations on here). I'm a year over the new average (which is now 29) but 10 years ago I'd have been much older than average. Do you think the age will keep going up ? Especially as babies are expensive and money is going to be tight for the majority of people in the next few years!!? Hmm

Went to Mamas and Papas outlet today. My SIL says they have a new manager and the discounts are nowhere near as good as they used to be Angry, how annoying! I got two lovely denim car seats and a cute apple play gym.

For people saying that they are getting low kicks well I'm getting the kicks low, high, in the middle, to the left and to the right Grin but I don't mind Grin

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 22/02/2011 21:03

Notoast you're funny Grin

I think my LO is kicking a nerve or something because I keep getting twinges through my bum area, where baby couldn't possibly be getting at. It feels very strange. Getting movement all over though thankfully not just in the backside.

Agewise I'm just miss average sorry. Not young and not 'old' (by fertility standards!, please don't hit me). Though I am about to act like a Nana and go to bed now Grin

8rubberduckies · 22/02/2011 21:32

On the age topic I was lent a stack of baby / pregnancy books when pregnant with ds by my landlady... one of them was a book for older mothers... aimed at anyone having a child over the age of 30!!! Shock. It was only published in about 1998 or something. Bizarrely, taking the existence of the above book into consideration, The three friends I know who had children in their twenties all reported getting looked down upon and judged by others at some point.

Barbie there are some very strange people out there... I especially like the types who like to petrify pregnant women with horrific tales of babies dying Hmm.

BarbieLovesKen · 22/02/2011 21:37

PML at old 30 year olds. Also, there really is, 8, and funnily enough I seem to keep having encounters with them (particuary at work) Hmm. I work in a physciatric hospital but definately think some of the patients talk much more sense that many of my colleagues..

KaraStarbuckThrace · 22/02/2011 21:40

I'll be 36 in April.
And I am also getting kicks very low down.

And feel uncomfortable as well. Today I have had a headache all day :( Feel sooo tired too.

BarbieLovesKen · 22/02/2011 21:47

You poor thing Kara, theres nothing worse than a headache that you cant really take anything (effective!) for. I had awful headaches when pregnant with dd and ds but have been really lucky, so far with this one and barely had any - I really sympatise. I used to get dh to give me a head massage to relief it somewhat Grin any chance your lovely OH would offer (or be talked into it?)

moomin156 · 22/02/2011 22:13

I dont feel old and none of the Health care professionals have even mentioned my age really as a factor in anything....

Hello everyone, can I join your group? I am expecting my first baby at the end of june, and am still getting my head round it. The baby wasn't 'planned' as such but is very much wanted and I am just so excited. However I am just starting to think about labour and birth and realising I have no idea what to expect!! So I googled mumsnet which I remember from back home and found this group. We had just moved abroad when I found out I was 12 weeks pregnant (!) and as yet I have no pregnant friends here that I can talk to about it, although I am the first of my friends back home to have a baby anyway. Read a lot of your posts and it's brilliant to have people discussing the things I have been going through. The first time I felt the baby move I called the doctor in a panic - had no idea what the hell was going on!!! Anyways, nice to meet you all and hopefully I can get a bit more clued up over the next few months

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/02/2011 08:36

Welcome LAbaby! There is a good mix of first time mums and mums on 2nd, 3rd and 4th babies here, so a wide range of experience!

Wish I could say my headache has gone but no it hasn't and I have a busy day today :(

moomin156 · 23/02/2011 09:04

Kara have you been taking paracetamol, it may help. Also remember to drink lots of extra water today just incase you are a bit dehydrated. Hope it goes soon. Has your BP been ok at your last appointments??? if it hasnt gone soon id go and get it checked :)

BarbieLovesKen · 23/02/2011 09:22

Huge welcome LABaby and congratulations!! looking forward to getting to "know" you over the next few months.

Does anyone else do this? have little date milestones in their heads? - I know we all wish away the first 12 weeks for obvious reasons and think most wait for the 20 week mark cos its half way through but I have loads of dates in my head - my new milestone is 28 weeks - which is 7 months pregnant and the start of the 3rd trimester, next is 30 weeks as its the count down from 10, 2/3 of the way through and I can say Im 30 something weeks Grin. Then 36 weeks - because for some reason that sounds like very, very, nearly there pregnant for me (even though I always am overdue so in reality theres a nice bit left).

Im nuts, arent I?

I watched OBEM a day late as usual (as Im in college Monday nights). I loved the "older" mum - thought she was lovely - such a character. The poor "young" 'un absolutely broke my heart - a perfect example of a baby having a baby Sad
