Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Empusa · 15/08/2011 16:00

Yes I did Grin

We think about 7 weeks, should be seeing the midwife soon.

goldmaple · 15/08/2011 21:11

empusa So happy for you!! I was a frolicker back in the day with you (i think we both stopped counting). Must have been a shock, I've heard 'relax and it will happen' but never 'go back on the pill and it will happen'. Sounds like your little bean may be mischievious :) Wishing you a happy and health 8 months.

lanky how are you doing? Hope everything is going well. Do you have your 18-20 week scan soon?

At almost 28 weeks I am finally getting a bit nervous about labour. Do any new mums have any advice etc... getting worried about the pain

pixiestix · 15/08/2011 22:27

Congratulations Empusa!! Its lovely to see you back here in such great circumstances. Smile How is everything going with you? Hope your housing and health is all sorted out, and you can enjoy the next nine months of excitement.

Empusa · 15/08/2011 23:26

I remember you goldmaple! It's nuts isn't it? I'm still reeling tbh!

pixiestix Housing is all sorted nowadays, we've got a lovely flat which DH has spent the last few months decorating, no psycho landlord to contend with! My health is still iffy, and I've had to come off the painkillers for my back now. So it's playing up a bit, but I'm hoping to get physio.

haloflo · 16/08/2011 08:07

empusa Ahh thats brillant! All the best for the next 8 months. Are you due March/April? Its a fab time of year to have a baby

goldmaple Do you have ante natal classes coming up? I found they were good for explaining what different pain options my hospital had. I had a walking epidural once I was in active labour and found it brillant. I could move/walk but only felt tightenings, not pain. I found that yes it was painful and exhausting but a few weeks into motherhood I could barely remember the pain. You might not tear but if you do your body has an amazing ability to heal itself and even with an episiotomy and second degree tear I wasn't in much pain afterwards just uncomfortable. (I could sit down/get up/pick Hannah up etc)

bunnygirl80 · 16/08/2011 10:25

empusa congrats on the bfp. Was wondering what had happened to some of the frolickers who were ttc with me, so it's great to see that you've eventually got your bfp

goldmaple I think the best thing you can do in labour is just go with the flow. Everyone's experience is different - I had a fast labour with pretty irregular contractions so managed without pain relief at all. I think the best thing you can do is make sure you know what choices you'll have for pain relief when the time comes, and don't set your heart on things happening in a particular way. It's normal to feel a bit anxious about it, but just focus on the lovely scrummy baby you'll get to meet at the end of it all - the actual labour is only a day or two out of your life, and if your lucky like I was it might only be 6hrs of so Smile And it can't be that bad as one of the people over on the postgrads thread is now pg again Grin

cherrycobbler · 16/08/2011 12:58

congrats empusa/kaloki!! very happy to see you back with your fab news :)

goldmaple I was also v worried about labour but actually, it was fine. Before being induced I had got to 4cm with only some slightly uncomfortable tight sensations- then I was induced and had a mobile epidural from the get go - I would definitely have an epidural again, it was fab. No pain till it wore off at the end (so I could feel where to push). And then it was like a really particular kind of pain - just incredibly intense waves, rather than normal pain, so even though I am complete wuss about all normal pain it was totally bearable. And there are recent grads on here who have popped out their babes with something incredibly impressive like half a paracetamol (crazyb and highheels I seem to recall).

goldmaple · 16/08/2011 18:47

thanks for all the reasurrance. I am still anxious but I will probably be done with worrying by week 33ish and then all good to go. I figure women have been doing this forever without modern medicine or trained doctors so I should be okay (this is my positive thinking)

haloflo me and DH are in a 10 week birth and babies class. It goes 6 weeks before the due date and then 4 weeks after. But it seems like a long way off (and not to help matters a friend had her baby at 33 wks - both mum and baby are doing well, he was 5lbs).

Reading everyone's birth stories helps:) and I have started buying baby things (got stroller and car seat) so it is becoming more real!

ToriaPumpkinPasty · 17/08/2011 17:40

Goldmaple I had a little freak out in the last few weeks about giving birth but it seems to have passed now (30 weeks tomorrow) and now I'm just looking forward to winding down at work and meeting my baby! Grin

Empusa/Kaloki it's fabulous to see you here! Love that the pill actually helped you get pregnant. Doesn't really fill you with confidence does it? Also glad your housing is all sorted out.

womanlytales · 19/08/2011 08:37

Hi everyone, I got a bfp on Aug 14 as a result of my 3rd IUI cycle - - Am quite nervous and am at the whispering bfp stage -- I hope you will not mind if I find myself a nice, comfy corner to lurk from for a bit. It feels good to reconnect with some of you and get to know the rest.

Congrats Empusa - also glad to hear your house issues are now far behind you.

haloflo · 19/08/2011 16:35

womanly! Such good news! I am loving the old time frolickers getting BFP's. Congratulations. We all understand how worried you are but the chances are everything will be just fine. Smile

bunnygirl80 · 19/08/2011 22:22

womanly congratulations.

It does seem like there's been a sudden rush of bfps for people who had been on the ttc thread for a long time - it's making me really happy for you all Smile

CaveMum · 19/08/2011 22:27

[peaks round the door] Empusa / Kaloki what fabulous news! Mahoosive congratulations!

I'm just waiting on my appointment to start on Clomid so hope to be with you all soon - keep a seat warm for me Grin

CrazyAlien06 · 20/08/2011 14:41

Hey everyone:) just wanted to offer congrats to all new people ok the thread!! :D
I'm 34 wks tomoz and scared about the labour! Wish I knew when it would start, how long and how painful it would be! My family have history of very quick births so hope I take after them!
The pain is worrying me quite a lot but hoping I can focus on the end result of a baby, am excited to discover if it's a boy or girl :0)

cherrycobbler · 20/08/2011 17:17

huge congrats womanly, we all remember how terrifying the first few weeks are! hope they pass quickly.

crazyalien I can't say don't worry because its very hard not to, but it really is fine, there are drugs for the pain if you want them, and whatever your experience it just seems so irrelevant once you have your LO in your arms Grin.

cherrycobbler · 20/08/2011 17:18

ps am also loving the run of BFPS from long term frolickers! Looking forward to seeing you super soon cavey (and mrsraspberry, garden, flick, florin, etc etc...) xxx

ToriaPumpkinPasty · 21/08/2011 14:54

Wooo! Massive congrats Womanly! Great to see you here, and we're excellent and 12 week wait hand holding.

I too am loving the influx of long term frolickers, long may it continue!

highheelsandequations · 22/08/2011 11:12

congrats and welcome empusa and womanly

crazya and goldmaple I was very lucky to have a very quick labour and delivery and no pain relief except a couple of paracetamol at home (well remembered cherry!) but I might have had pain relief had I gone to the unit sooner!! Only advice I have is to try not to think about it too much and go with the flow, I found the birth pool really relaxing as well, and I had no pain between contractions so there were breaks from the pain. I also didn't think too much in detail about how I expected/wanted the birth to be beforehand so I could just go with what felt right at the time.

Snowy27 · 22/08/2011 15:14

Hi
Can I sneak over from the TTC board?
I only appeared briefly (clearly a lucky thread!) but just got my BFP!
Now feeling very emotional and a bit scared about the whole thing, plus very excited!

goldmaple · 22/08/2011 19:35

Congrats womanly and snowy FX for an uneventful 9 months for you both. The first 12 weeks seem to pass slowly and then they fly by.

crazyAlien I'm 29 weeks and getting a bit worried too. It will be such a reward to hold our babies though. (and you get the extra surprise of whether its a girl or a boy - wish I had that kind of will power but DH and I had to know).

Anyone here tried hypnobirthing? Just heard from a friend of a friend that it works great.

womanlytales · 23/08/2011 14:11

thank you ladies for the kind words. I am finding each day go by so slowly and so hard to stay focused on things like work!! I feel like the 12th week milestone is faaaaaaaaar away. Remember halo your approach of small milestones.. today I found myself going out to get myself a houmous and chicken wrap that I JUST had to eat. lol otherwise I am doing ok - dreams every night (so not the norm with me), less sleep, a mild headache and a certain uneasiness in my mouth till I bit into the houmous wrap - lol.

- goes back to her comfy corner to lurk some more till sanity dawns --

CrazyAlien06 · 23/08/2011 18:55

It will be such a reward indeed to hold my baby, I keep thinking about the moment we find out what it is, will we both discover at the same time due to how the birth went? I wanted DH to tell me but it would be nice for baby to be put on my chest and us both to 'have a look' and discover together:-)
My friend had twins yday- one born b4 midnight other after lol so they have different birthdays! She had them normally as well!

Im struggling to sleep still even during the day-currently laying on bed with DH to have a nap before my last NCT session starting at 8 but can't fall asleep! DH is snoring away lol.

Congrats to newbies joining the thread!!:0) the waiting does dragggggg! Some parts go fast though :) I'm 34+2 now and it's beginning to drag a bit, just want to get to the ' fully cooles' 37 wks then I'll relax !

We have changing table/chest of drawers up now and wardrobe in the nursery(spare room!) just waiting to finish off painting other rooms then cot can go up once baby is here.

Not even bought a pram yet as we don't have family near us so no where to store it before baby is born ( good old superstition!)

Anyone recommend a good pram? We need one that folds up easily and isn't too heavy but ok for tall peeps!( I'm 5ft 10", DH 6ft 3"!)

Empusa · 24/08/2011 02:34

I can post this here, because you ladies know I'm mad already. Grin

But DH and I (me - since we met, him - before(!!!)) have always had dreams of us with twin girls. Sooo I've now convinced myself I'm having twins. Hmm

Logical side says, "don't be daft", but still.

So I'm writing this here so I can either
a) come back and laugh at myself
b) freak myself out

LankyLegs · 24/08/2011 10:13

Wow!!!

So lovely to hear your good news empusa and womanly!!!! Am so pleased for you both and it's so nice to have some of the old timers getting this happy news after so long!!! Woohoooo!!! I second cherr and really can't wait for some of the other ol' timers to get their good news soon as well. . Cavey hope you get your clomid app soon my dear.

Congrats snowy to you as well!

Lovely to hear from everyone else too and lots of birth tips! (La la la I am not listening to those just yet!) Gold Crazy and Toria hope you are all doing well and practising your deep breathing (you can tell I don' have a clue about childbirth yet and will continue to be in denial for a while!)

I hit 17 weeks today and bump has emerged which is nice. Morning sickness has totally gone (I think) and it's great to be feeling normal again. Was getting kind of scared that I was going to feel like crap for the entire 9 months. I have told work too and as my contract ends 23rd December I don't think they will be renewing it so we are saving frantically so I can have 9-12 months off with the baby next year. I also gave a gazillion appts booked up - lots of scans (growth scans due to an underactive thyroid) and consultant and midwife appts - which is a bit annoying as the sodding NHS does not seem to have any appreciation of working people and seem to be able to run late on every single appt I have!!

Womanly I hope you don't get too many horrible symptoms and are enjoying the excitement for a while - am SO over the moon for you!!!

Crazy we are both very tall as well but are inheriting most baby things off my sister. She is giving us her bugaboo and since she is also quite tall I am hoping it will be fine as I am 5 ft 10 as well! Am secretly a bit sad that I won't have to buy very much but also very pleased we save ourselves around £2-3k which when you get no maternity leave will be a god send. Do let us know what prams you are looking at though!!

Hope everyone else is well

xxx

bunnygirl80 · 24/08/2011 10:36

gold I did hypnobirthing. No idea if it helped me during labour or not, but listening to it was great for relaxation during the later stages of pregnancy, and the breathing was really useful during contractions. I did feel really calm during the whole of my labour, but not having given birth without having tried hypnobirthing, I've got no idea if I would have been calm anyway

crazya I have a bugaboo cameleon - it's pretty good if you're tall as the handle extends pretty far. DH is 6ft, and he's had no problems with it. It's a bit of a faff to fold as you have to take the seat off the chassis, so there's no way you could do it one handed while holding baby, but it is a fantastic pram

empusa I can't wait to hear if your prediction is right Smile Do you remember whiteroses? She's now pg with twins Shock
