Aww what a sweetie MrsW [csmile]

Congratulations Tomboy - here's to an uneventful nine months! Wine [cgrin]

TomboyWife · 01/05/2011 11:58

(sticks head above parapet)

Hello ladies! Still a little worried I'm tempting fate posting on this thread before I've even told my GP I'm up the duff. But never mind, in I come!

At this stage, did anyone else have a very specific spot on their abdomen that felt tender/stretchy/etc.? I'm wondering if I can feel the little bean, or if I'm just going loopy.

pixiestix · 01/05/2011 16:12

Yes, I totally had that Tomboy - it was that which prompted me to test! It felt kind of like I had done too many sit ups but only in one small place. Must be some implantation effect I think. So you are not going loopy, although I can guarantee that you will do at some point over the next twelve weeks. The first trimester is full of loopyness! [csmile]

CrazyAlien06 · 01/05/2011 19:07

tomboy yes I had all sorts of niggly pains - am now 18 wks today in fact :)
do you know how far you are yet?x

TomboyWife · 01/05/2011 19:20

Crazy I haven't been to the GP yet as I only got my BFP on Friday, but my guess is that I'm somewhere in week 5. (I'm still a bit bewildered that weeks 1-2 only count in retrospect. Who came up with this weird system?)

Thanks for the reassurances ladies. I was beginning to worry that I was having an ectopic pregnancy. Yes, I know, time to step away from the "what can go wrong" chapter in the pg book.

CrazyAlien06 · 01/05/2011 19:29

tomboy ah see if my brain worked I would have worked out that you hadnt been yet lol. The GP will work it out from the first day of your last period. I am bad and always thinking negatively, said I would be more positive after 12 week scan but seeing as I havent got a bump yet I am finding it very difficult too ! so next mile stone is getting to 20 week scan ( in a few weeks!) and then I promised myself that I will think positively, fingers crossed everything is ok on my 20 week scan

Keep us posted on how you get on with GP- you and your partner must be over the moon :D x

bunnygirl80 · 01/05/2011 23:49

Congrats tomboy I posted on this thread before I'd told my DH let alone my GP Grin (in my defence he was out and didn't get home until very very late and I had to tell someone!!)

It's pretty normal to get all sorts of cramping/stretching/weird pains going on in the first few weeks.....doesn't stop you worrying though Smile

kurlyvoice · 02/05/2011 12:02

Congratulations Tomboy! So that's a Christmas-ish baby then...? How exciting!

Hello to everyone else from the other side - am looking forward to the bumper month of May and lots of little ones arriving. Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine!

highheelsandequations · 02/05/2011 12:23

Welcome tomboy and congratulations again, I've had all sorts of pains right from the beginning and as everyone else has said, it's perfectly normal, and perferctly normal to be terrified by them!

Well I'm still enjoying my 4 day weekend, not sure how I'll cope having to work 5 days next week :o oh well, 8 weeks of work left till ML, that's not long at all. Have finally ordered some stuff for pip, was ordering stuff from next this morning and just had to add some lovely sleepsuits into my basket. Still haven't bought anything else though! Although my parents are buying us our buggy/pram so we should be ordering that over the next couple of weeks. I've seen a moses basket that I really want but DP keeps saying we can get his old moses basket as his parents still have it, although haven't seen it yet. Feeling very disorganised now, especially since talking to someone with same DD as me and finding out they've got everything already. Question on buying stuff, I'm hoping to BF, do I need to buy a pump, bottles (in case I need to express) and steriliser before pip arrives or are they the sort of thing I can buy after when I've seen how I'm getting on with BFing etc.?

Hope everyone's well and enjoying some sunshine.

womanlytales · 02/05/2011 12:32

Congrats mrswajs and welcome to Robyn

haloflo · 02/05/2011 17:04

Congrats tomboy I was very nervous at first - all kinds of poking, tugging & stretching feelings are perfectly normal.

highheels I bought a mircowave steriliser which came with 1 free bottle before DD arrived. Since then I took her to Boots and bought a pump. So far i've used the bottle once (bf still being established and I don't want nipple confusion) but the steriliser a few times as I own breast shells due to my large supply (you wear them under your bra and collect milk in them which you can put in the fridge/freezer- means less tops and breast pads used!) Anyway my point is if Boots is nearby or you are happy to pay for next day delivery online just get things in if you spot a bargain as you can still get them afterwards.

For me Lansinoh, breast pads and nursing bras are a must.

ToriaPumpkinHead · 02/05/2011 17:25

Congrats tomboy! Very glad to see you over here :D Chances are everything you feel is normal, but no one will ever have told you about it, I found it really hard to lie on my back from about five weeks as my stomach felt like it was stretching really far but even my mum had never heard this before, nearly 15 weeks now so pretty sure it's just one of those things!

CrazyAlien06 · 02/05/2011 17:46

haloflo I was thinking the same thing re bottles etc for breastfeeding. I have no idea! how far are u? I'm only 18 weeks and not getting anything until really late, pram will be delivered after baby is safely here! We have car seat and will get crib ,reusable nappies and clothes nearer the time x

TomboyWife · 02/05/2011 20:01

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! DH and I went shopping for non-baby stuff today and couldn't help looking at baby stuff as well. I cooed at clothes (he said it was way too early and not to tempt fate), he got excited about baby backpacks (I said it was way too early and not to tempt fate), and we looked at maternity clothes together (I despaired slightly).

I did get some sports bras in the next cup size up as I'm spilling out of my usual size (and have been for a week or two actually).

kurly the web form due date estimator said 4 January or something like that, so fingers crossed I'm off the hook for a Christmas baby. DH is perversely hoping for one, but is also cross that (all being to plan) we can't go anywhere for the holidays this year.

highheelsandequations · 02/05/2011 20:11

Having a paranoid panic here, had a BBQ for a few friends this afternoon and I was halfway through eating a burger when I noticed the middle was very undercooked. Stopped eating it straight away (and couldn't eat anything else as was feeling sick, although sure it was psychological) but am now terrified I'll have given myself horrible food poisining and hurt pip. Also annoyed as I asked DP if he was sure it was properly cooked twice before I took it! Someone slap me and tell me I'm being silly and it's fine?

ToriaPumpkinHead · 02/05/2011 21:57

You'll be fine. Food poisoning kicks in fairly quickly most of the time and even if it does make you a bit sick chances are pip will be fine at this stage. Mum the midwife is backing me up and says there's no point worrying (easier said than done I know)

If it makes you feel better I ate loads of Brie this weekend and it was my aunt's lasagne that made me feel sick!

bunnygirl80 · 02/05/2011 23:06

hh and crazya I would strongly recommend that you get bottles and a sterilser before the baby arrives, and make sure you have something to put in them. So either get a breast pump or some formula just in case you run into problems.

I learnt the hard way that although BFing was established in hospital it can all go pear shaped pretty quickly. On our first night home with Will my milk supply increased dramatically and I was so engorged he couldn't latch on. We'd been doing so well up until then that the bottles, sterliser and breast pump were still in their packaging in the back of a cupboard, and we had no formula. That was the probably the single worst night of my life -listening to my baby cry with hunger until he fell asleep again while we desperately tried to unpack everything, read the instructions and try to use it while DH drove the streets trying to find a late night pharmacy to buy some formula.

In the end I was able to express enough to give him a bottle, but if we'd been more organised about it I could have saved myself a lot of stress.

That said breat pumps are expensive, and you might not know how much you'll use it or what type you'd like until BFing is established, so a couple of cartons of emergency formula in case of problems is probably the cheaper option.

Don't mean to scare anyone, but it would be pretty easy for you all to avoid going through similar if you're just a bit more organised than I was Smile

cherrycobbler · 03/05/2011 12:42

HUGE congrats tomboy and welcome!!! So happy to read your news, hope its starting to sink in a bit. Yay!! Wishing you a very smooth and uneventful 9 months.

HH I have spent the last few weeks buying lots after not buying anything for ages. As long as you have the really basic basics (car seat to come home in, one set of baby clothes and maybe a moses basket) in case of early arrivals, you should have lots of time on ML to get the other stuff. So don't fret! I think I may have bought the same as flo re: bottles - I bought a microwave steriliser that was on offer at Amazon (thank you butterfly for your recommendation of it!) that came with a free newborn bottle and teat, just in case. I think it was less than £20. I also bought two small cartons of emergency pre-prepared formula (I think on advice you gave, bunny, at the time of Will's hungry night!). If I do manage bf'ing then I would quite like to get a pump so I can express but they are quite pricey and we're close to a big Boots so I may just play that by ear a bit. And don't worry about the burger - have had similar panics and its all been fine. Chances are that the worst that will happen is that if you do get food poisoning you'll feel rubbish but pip will be just fine and completely oblivious to you being ill!

mrsw robyn is gorgeous! Had a peek at your pics too kurly - just too delicious! Can't wait to meet our little one, all these baby photos are making me feel all mushy :)

toria yay for mat jeans, can't believe you waited so long, I was in them very early! My super tight H&M ones became too difficult to put on at about week 28 so I bought a second pair of roomy ones from Gap... which are now a bit snug. Embarrassingly the snugness is not so much the bump as the thighs... so not really baby but more all the Easter eggs I've been eating...Blush

Hope crazyd and her twins are doing well.

EDD is a week tomorrow, but trying to psyche myself up for a further 3 week wait. Not working so well I have to say - getting increasingly massive and uncomfy, and impatient!

Hope everyone else is well and congrats again tomboy

Hello ladies

Briefly skimmed the posts and seems all going well.

Am 10 + 5 today and still feeling horrendously sick and the worst thing being that i am retching several times a day and esp in the morning am hunched over the toilet and "being sick" at least 5 times but nothing comes out except for the tiniest amount of water or bile. Sorry if TMI. It's really hurting my stomach.
Had my MW appt at hosp last week and have scan on 23rd May which i was a bit sad about as will be 13+4 and really hoped i only had to wait until 12wks!!! Silly i know.

Congrats on the new arrivals and great news on the scans.

highheelsandequations · 03/05/2011 19:53

Thanks for all the advice and burger reassurance :) Think I'm just going through a panicky stage just now!

TomboyWife · 03/05/2011 20:44

Daiso Sad Hope you start feeling better soon.

highheels I'll see you your undercooked burger and raise you a dental X-ray (before I knew I was pg, possibly before I actually was). If everyone who 'broke the pg rules' had things go wrong, none of us would be here!

crazydayz · 04/05/2011 18:28

Hi all,

A very quick update after a rather hectic week! Thomas and Isobel were finally born on Thursday 28th April by C-section at 7lb 3 and 6lb 14 Grin. We came home from hospital on Sunday despite a few complications on my part post surgery and we are all doing well.

Congrats Mrs W - so glad Robyn is here safe and sound and that you did indeed beat the twins to it.

Congrats Tomboy on your BFP!

Big waves to everybody and I'll pop back soon with some pictures and a better update!

CrazyAlien06 · 04/05/2011 18:40

Awww congrats crazydayz :-) how exciting that your little ones have arrived into the world:D bet they are keeping you busy lol.
X

crazybutterflylady · 04/05/2011 19:23

Congrats crazydayz!!!! have been keeping an eye on the thread for news. Hope you are recovering well and that the two little munchkins are enjoying their first foray into life :)

I say little but wow... they are big babies for twins, no wonder you were feeling so shattered! WELL DONE!!!xx
